[00:12:00] xris: Skiingsean: conflicting repositories
[00:12:00] xris: atrpms conflicts with pretty much everything else.
[00:12:00] xris: I only enable it to install specific mythtv-related packages
[00:13:00] Skiingsean: wonderfull, but atrpms is now disabled and still yelling.. rofl
[00:13:00] Skiingsean: hmm <crosses fingers>
[00:13:00] Skiingsean: if this works,, should i disable all repo's except atrpms to install myth?

[00:42:00] kormoc: so why wouldn't 42 work?

[00:45:00] Skiingsean: hmmm has anyone here "actually" installed myth on FC4
[00:47:00] kormoc: mishehu, likly the best way would be to modify the script to pad the number.

[00:58:00] Ryushin: Whooaaaa. Outstanding. The new SVN (7600) allows me to HD decoding using libmpeg using my little sempron 64 1600+ overlocked to 2100 mhz. Though it looks like xvmc still skips for me in the current svn.
[00:59:00] Ryushin: I'm seeing CPU usage from 70–85% right now.
[00:59:00] laga: Ryushin: hey. xvmc skips for me as well. libmpeg2 is almost fine
[00:59:00] laga: talking sdtv on a low-end machine.
[00:59:00] Ryushin: I think the new compile settings I did helped a lot too.
[01:00:00] laga: mine did the opposite. --arch=i686 doesn't do me any good, but --arch=pentium3 seems to have problems with quickdnr – me thinks, i'm still investigating
[01:00:00] Ryushin: I'll have to see if it's stable. I pushed the overclocking from 1900 mhz to 2100. Though I've read a lot of people have done 2100 without a problem. 2200 starts showing stability issues.
[01:00:00] laga: hehe
[01:01:00] Ryushin: Well, I don't know if 2200 will give me stability issues. Just what I read on the net. Though one person got his to run at 2600 perfectly stable.
[01:01:00] laga: i thought i killed my mainboard when pushing the p3 450 to 550mhz. the keyboard and the NIC started to act funny, but it was only related to the increased voltage for the chipset.
[01:02:00] laga: Ryushin: ask the crazy japanese people ;)
[01:02:00] Ryushin: I just want me HD to work. At least now I have more information to go back to the dev group and show them what I've found. I still would like xvmc to work. It chops the cpu usage in half or more.
[01:03:00] laga: yes!
[01:03:00] laga: BTW, i've found out that disabling "extra audio buffers" uses a lot less cpu. it makes playback completely unwatchable, but hey – more free cpu cycles.
[01:03:00] laga: might want to give it a try
[01:03:00] Ryushin: I just turned that on. Let me turn it back off.
[01:04:00] ** laga tortures the poor p3 with 124mhz fsb **
[01:06:00] Ryushin: Seems to be about a 5% reduction. I can live with that.
[01:06:00] Skiingsean: anyone know what to do when installing something via yum yells about missing dep's yet when trying to install that specific dep using rpm it says aleready installed?
[01:07:00] laga: Ryushin: well, your cpu is a lot faster than mine. anyways, just wanted to let you know ;)
[01:09:00] Ryushin: laga: So much for 2100 mhz. It just locked. Time to lower it to 2000.
[01:09:00] simon_c: I'm having playback problems on one of my frontends. The color is slightly washed out, some colors have a halo effect. Is the adjust filter the best place to start ?

[01:37:00] feld: and i saw the problems with mysql5 and i tried fixing but it didnt work.
[01:38:00] SlicerDicer-: laga, what in sam hell would make you decide to overclock a mythtv box?
[01:38:00] feld: so i decided to remove mysql5 and go back to 4.xx
[01:38:00] laga: SlicerDicer-: 450mhz vs 600mhz makes a big difference.
[01:38:00] mishehu: Skiingsean: well basically, the xbox makes a nice, quiet frontend box in my opinion.
[01:38:00] SlicerDicer-: laga, point taken
[01:38:00] Skiingsean: <-- has had disasters in the past oc'ing.. why not just get a powerfull cpu? in the "past" i noticed that safe OC'ing never gave a large bonus on performance vs safety unless thats changed
[01:38:00] laga: SlicerDicer-: and it's still quiet as hell.
[01:38:00] feld: but now my users and crap arent working or something? how to i totally remove all the mysql crap from my box or fix it? :(

[01:38:00] Skiingsean: mishehu, gotche
[01:38:00] feld: SlicerDicer-: i downgraded

[01:44:00] SlicerDicer-: kormoc, there you go :)
[01:44:00] mishehu: though I've not installed it on any of my systems yet.
[01:44:00] feld: mishehu: it wont work with mythtv
[01:44:00] SlicerDicer-: ok my comptuer has gone beserk brb
[01:44:00] kormoc: feld, what's the issue?
[01:44:00] feld: mythtv uses a repeat column that conflicts with a new feature of mysql5
[01:44:00] mishehu: feld: you sure? maybe it's just the qt mysql module?
[01:44:00] mishehu: ah
[01:45:00] feld: u have to hack at some crap to make it work
[01:45:00] SlicerDicer- (n=Slicer@www.macceketh.com) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[01:45:00] feld: didnt work for me.
[01:45:00] kormoc: feld, easiest way to downgrade would be to do
[01:45:00] SlicerDicer (n=Slicer@www.macceketh.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:45:00] mishehu: what repeat column is that? I'm curious.
[01:45:00] feld: mishehu: i'll show u when i'm done with this crap
[01:45:00] kormoc: echo ">=dev-db/mysql-5.0" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
[01:45:00] feld: kormoc: continue
[01:45:00] kormoc: emerge mysql
[01:45:00] feld: kormoc: i did
[01:45:00] kormoc: and it'll downgrade
[01:45:00] SlicerDicer: kormoc: he already has
[01:45:00] feld: but now i have a bigger problem
[01:45:00] kormoc: ooh?
[01:46:00] mishehu: feld: going to go back to 4.1.x?
[01:46:00] SlicerDicer: yea he downgraded
[01:46:00] kormoc: can't read the db can it?
[01:46:00] feld: the problem now is that mysql is fscked up
[01:46:00] feld: yup
[01:46:00] feld: cant read shit
[01:46:00] kormoc: okay, the easiest way to do it would be to upgrade to 5.0
[01:46:00] feld: mysql-administrator gui errors and cant read users
[01:46:00] kormoc: run mysqldump
[01:46:00] mishehu: isn't it possible to run multiple versions of mysql on teh same box?
[01:46:00] kormoc: dump it all to a mythtv.sql
[01:46:00] kormoc: then downgrade to 4.1.x
[01:46:00] kormoc: and import it back in
[01:47:00] SlicerDicer: kormoc: the mastah comes to the rescue :)
[01:47:00] kormoc: mishehu, yeah, but not purely portage
[01:47:00] feld: awwwwwwwww
[01:47:00] feld: :(
[01:47:00] feld: ok...
[01:47:00] Skiingsean: am i going to have a problem installing myth if i only have ONE Video card an ATI Radeon 9800 (drivers are installed correctly) no capture card atm and will be using the radeon for output?
[01:48:00] mishehu: kormoc: portage doesn't allow for installing multiple versions of software?
[01:48:00] feld: mishehu: yes but its something nobody sane does
[01:48:00] mishehu: how does it handle the different db libraries out there?
[01:48:00] SlicerDicer: mishehu: sure it does but as feld just said aye
[01:48:00] SlicerDicer- (n=Slicer@70.89.135.154) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:48:00] mishehu: feld: does it bork it up pretty bad if you do that? such as dependency tracking?
[01:48:00] SlicerDicer (n=Slicer@www.macceketh.com) has left #mythtv-users
[01:49:00] feld: mishehu: i dont know what it does, i'm just following directions ;)
[01:49:00] mishehu: ok heh
[01:49:00] kormoc: mishehu, it can if the ebuild is designed to do that. Realistically, you don't want to have two different mysql versions dealing with the dbs at the same time, so it limits it to one version
[01:50:00] kormoc: you can say, change the root it insatlls to something like /tmp/fakeroot and install say a new version into that, which you could do, but it's difficult to walk someone though that
[01:50:00] mishehu: Skiingsean: mythtv itself is rather limited without a capture card, but I do use mythtfrontend on a couple machines that have no capture card. I only have one backend with a capture card.
[01:50:00] SlicerDicer-: mishehu, I have had multiple versions of something on gentoo it can go absolutely crazy you have to do it in weird ways to make it work from what I have seen
[01:50:00] feld: i just need this god damn database to work and i have a 100% functional mythtv box
[01:50:00] mishehu: kormoc: naturally, usually people like to optimize one db engine at a time on a given installation.
[01:51:00] Skiingsean: mishehu, good thats what i was hoping for :)
[01:51:00] laga: i believe this functionality is called "slots"
[01:51:00] mishehu: which is why I never messed with postgres even though opegroupware requires it... thus I never touched opengroupware.
[01:52:00] kormoc: laga, indeed it is
[01:52:00] SlicerDicer-: kormoc, you ever done multiple versions of any given package on gentoo?
[01:53:00] kormoc: yeah, xorg, kde, xfce, apache, php
[01:53:00] SlicerDicer-: hehe
[01:53:00] feld: hey mishehu kormoc http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-393803-h . . . v+mysql.html

[04:16:00] Skiingsean: ok, and what about dvd;s that are on the HD, am i required to traverse the folders and select the correct video ts
[04:16:00] GreyFoxx: I dont' do that either
[04:16:00] Skiingsean: what do you mean.. you dont have dvds on the HD, or traverse the folders
[04:17:00] GreyFoxx: I either play off the disk in mythdvd or use a dvd player
[04:17:00] Skiingsean: ah okies :)

[04:58:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: what problems with mythtv are you having?
[04:58:00] Skiingsean: Would you all out there agree or say that MythTV is useless without a capture card? I currently dont live where I could make use of that, but want to in the futre,, right now I want a menu that others can easily use (like myth) and access all of my media currently stored on HD's (but in a nice outlay) and have a good control over the media
[04:59:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, im not finding it very easy or nice, to arrrange all of my media (avi, dvd, mpg, divx, etc) into a nice user friendly menu
[05:00:00] Skiingsean: ive been able to "locate" everything with the watch videos, but for example I cant have the ability to have DVDs on HD have a single file to start/play the movie yet in the same menu have the AVI's of movies also play

[05:06:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, ok I gotche. well most of the DVD's i still have laying around, some have been lost (throughout college) What if I was to turn them into ISO's and mount them as DVD's?
[05:06:00] banyan: I can log in by hand, and mythtv works when logging in after being started from a shell as root.
[05:06:00] Skiingsean: they are the exact copy of the DVD stripped down to the PC to be burned again as a DVD

[05:09:00] Skiingsean: banyan, gimme one min, though i prolly wont be much help, but what is the "exact" mysql error and all say
[05:09:00] simcop2387: then you can write a script that mounts the iso and plays it, then unmounts it, and have that setup as the player for those, and you get a single file to use in myth video and can still organize it anyway you want
[05:09:00] simcop2387: and does anyone know how to use the video editor in the recording section?
[05:10:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, definately .. i wouldn't have thought to do it that way, but that will most likely be easier than creating symlinks to 20phantom DVD's

[05:15:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: looks like it'll be easy to do, utils/setup->setup->media->videos->file types, create a new extension, point the command to the script to play them, (the script should accept the file name on the command line) and uncheck use default player and ignore, then hit done and then it'll use that script to play iso's, then its just a matter of getting that script to your satisfaction

[05:30:00] banyan: and growisofs.
[05:30:00] Skiingsean: all of the above
[05:30:00] banyan: Playing can be done with mplayer.
[05:30:00] Skiingsean: well ok not play
[05:31:00] Skiingsean: i like xine, its nicer on the menus
[05:31:00] banyan: There's a howto somewhere on mythtv about burning your recordings to dvd.
[05:31:00] _Nero_: yeah, I use xine to play dvds..
[05:31:00] Skiingsean: yeah i wont be recording anything till I move and get my own setup
[05:32:00] _Nero_: xine is also nice with the chain-reaction post-processing
[05:33:00] Skiingsean: so you'd recommend using DVDauthor to convert a dumped dvd to an ISO
[05:33:00] Skiingsean: otherwise I have a windows PC in another room id rather not need to get back onto
[05:34:00] banyan: Well, dvdauthor can be used to create a dvd file system from a series of mpg files.
[05:34:00] Skiingsean: ah ok..
[05:34:00] banyan: and if you want to do the work, you can build a DVD with menus etc.
[05:34:00] Skiingsean: what about a dvd image (dumped) and turning that into an ISO
[05:35:00] banyan: dvdunauthor does the reverse — extracts the dvd into the file system.

[05:35:00] Skiingsean: hmm ok
[05:36:00] simcop2387: anyone?
[05:36:00] banyan: It creates a directory with two directories in it... VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (I think).
[05:36:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, no clue sry
[05:36:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: mkisofs is what you'd want to make an iso out of the directory
[05:36:00] Skiingsean: banyan, right like any dvd dump
[05:36:00] banyan: and inside the VIDEO_TS will be a bunch of files, one of which will be very large and which is the movie.
[05:36:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, perfect thanks
[05:37:00] banyan: What I've done, is take that very large file and make it its own filesystem with dvdauthor, and then use growisofs to write that to a dvd.
[05:37:00] banyan: This gets around the trouble of not being able to write as much data as is usually on a commercial dvd.
[05:37:00] Skiingsean: yeah, but i want to keep the entire structure with all the submenus and whatnot
[05:37:00] banyan: (usually it does)
[05:38:00] Skiingsean: im not going to be burning to a dvd, but if you have a dual layer burner you can recreate that same dvd
[05:38:00] banyan: If you can write the whole structure (i.e. it's not too big to fit on a disk)
[05:38:00] Skiingsean: i just want to recreate the file sys (ISO) from the DVD dump,, so ill give mkisofs a try
[05:38:00] banyan: True, but unless you have a dual layer dvd player you won't be able to play it except on the computer.

[05:44:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: cool, i'm working on my autodvd author scripts right now, i'm settting it up so that it makes the dvd's with commercial skipping, AND with the commercials still there so that if they are detected incorrectly you can either turn it off or just rewind
[05:44:00] banyan: lol
[05:44:00] GeekZoid: banyan: Do i haveto update the firmware?
[05:45:00] jnunez: GeekZoid: I think that the 150 and 250 are the same. The 150 is a newer model with the same features. reduced amount of chips on the board and no IR Blaster
[05:45:00] GeekZoid: will that mess it up so i cant use windows?
[05:45:00] banyan: do you have any files in /lib/modules that look like they're .bin files?
[05:45:00] banyan: (is it .bin? hmm)
[05:45:00] GeekZoid: banyan: Should i update the firmware for it.. ?
[05:46:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: also it'll be autogenerating menus
[05:46:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, nice! ill definately have to read up on it if you post it in the wiki somewhere.. my problem is,is until i move not only cant i use my capture card, I also am almost out of HD space so I wont be ripping anymore DVD's <cringe>
[05:46:00] banyan: There's a list of firmwares somewhere on ivtv's website.
[05:46:00] banyan: That's why ya need to burn them again.
[05:46:00] banyan: gets 'em off your hard drive!
[05:46:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, only the ones I have backed up on what HD's i have left
[05:47:00] Skiingsean: nah I just needa get some new (larger) HD's and be good to go
[05:47:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: well i'll be designing it so that it'll work as a plugin to mythtv, you create a playlist of recorded shows (thats already supported) then you tell it to burn a dvd of them and it'll author the whole thing for you
[05:47:00] banyan: At 5 or 6 gigs a pop, you'll be buying hard drives weekly.
[05:47:00] Skiingsean: Id rather have every DVD I own on a HD cluster vs Disc, that way no looking for discs, no ruining discs, no skipping ...
[05:47:00] Skiingsean: simcop2387, sweet!

[05:49:00] Skiingsean: <sighs> my last two drives larger than 80gigs (2x 200gig) took a dump not too long ago, also due to where I live .. and well the hurricanes
[05:49:00] Skiingsean: they are effectively oversized paperweights now
[05:49:00] Skiingsean: but ill brb, 10min?
[05:49:00] simcop2387: yea i plan on setting up a raid5 to help combat that a bit
[05:52:00] kev_: consider raid-1 unless you need high read speeds. it'll double your storage space

[07:37:00] Krazylegz: Skiingsean: NTFS.
[07:37:00] Skiingsean: krazylegz :/ gotta have safe read/write from linux
[07:37:00] Krazylegz: Skiingsean: I thought it was 2GB, but yes I could be wrong. Anyway, it's pretty small.
[07:37:00] simcop2387: Skiingsean: use a filesystem with more than 32bit file sizes! or shrink the video
[07:38:00] Skiingsean: lol they were originally NTFS
[07:38:00] Krazylegz: Skiingsean: To the best of my knowledge, it's a real pain. Best option might be to use that thing that lets you read ReiserFS from Windows.
[07:38:00] Krazylegz: I never did find a good solution.
[07:39:00] Skiingsean: hmm ok.. is Reiser the only linux native fs with >4gb
[07:39:00] ** GeekZoid ponders. **

[07:39:00] Skiingsean: jfs i think can

[07:39:00] Skiingsean: <nod> ok will try to come up with something

[07:42:00] Skiingsean: store on linux and reboot to linux
[07:42:00] Skiingsean: Agrajag, ext3 can.. :)
[07:42:00] Krazylegz: Yeah, I know that JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, ext2 and ext3 will do > 4GB files.
[07:43:00] Skiingsean: Agrajag, do you know if i can convert vfat to ext3
[07:43:00] Krazylegz: Skiingsean: Two computers. Fileserver is Linux but headless. Desktop is dual-boot.
[07:43:00] Skiingsean: gotche
[07:43:00] Agrajag-: Krazylegz: you just said you "can't think of any Linux native filesystems that cannot do better than 4GB off of the top of my head"
[07:44:00] Krazylegz: Agrajag-: Right.
[07:44:00] Skiingsean: that cannot do i think was his point.. i read it wrong too.. but then im just really confused at the whole conv... ROFL
[07:44:00] Agrajag-: haha
[07:44:00] Krazylegz: All Linux filesystems that I can think of (right now) can work with files of larger than 4GB.
[07:44:00] Agrajag-: yep
[07:45:00] Skiingsean: ok i understand that.. but then what did you want me to let you know about for a solution?
[07:45:00] Skiingsean: you mean in a linux/win environmenT?
[07:45:00] Skiingsean: which leads me back to my "but then im just really confused at the whole conv..."
[07:46:00] Krazylegz: Skiingsean: Yes, let me know if you find a good solution for storing files > 4GB and being able to r/w them from Windows and Linux.
[07:46:00] feld: Krazylegz: ext2 partition
[07:47:00] feld: there is a new installable driver for windows with full read/write capabilities
[07:47:00] mishehu: samba?
[07:47:00] Skiingsean: gotchies! well im not going to be worrying bout win for a while.. would NFS shares not work? what i need to do now is find a way to convert my vfat to another fs without losing data

[07:52:00] Skiingsean: nod i just read that.. hmpf.. ok its not possible to mount a dumped dir of a dvd? without converting it to an ISO is it
[07:55:00] mishehu: a dumped dir of a dvd?
[07:55:00] mishehu: I'm not sure I follow.

[07:56:00] Skiingsean: its not in a .bin or .iso format
[07:56:00] mishehu: it's on the actual dvd disc?
[07:56:00] Skiingsean: its the actuall video_ts folders etc
[07:56:00] mishehu: oh
[07:56:00] mishehu: you ripped a dvd movie?
[07:56:00] mishehu: or something
[07:56:00] Skiingsean: no they were dvd's of my own I ripped back in college, i was able to recreate all but like 5 that are gone
[07:56:00] Skiingsean: i had about 2tb of space back then and instead of let roomies play with my discs this was safer
[07:57:00] mishehu: they are just files on a file system. if they are unencrypted you can just copy them as you would any other file.
[07:57:00] Skiingsean: no scratching, stealing, ruining, etc
[07:57:00] GeekZoid: well i see there is problem compiling mythtv with gcc version 4.0
[07:57:00] Skiingsean: no i know,, im trying to get a "single" file to nicely showup in mythv, i was going to convert to ISO and write a script to play iso's but thats out of the que, due to the <4gb rule
[07:57:00] GeekZoid: does the CVS work with 4.0?
[07:57:00] GeekZoid: gcc 4.0?
[07:58:00] Skiingsean: i dont want my users to have to traverse the entire directory in mythtv and figure out which .vob file is the correct one

[08:37:00] simcop2387: no, i'm using 0.9
[08:37:00] feld: ok well the support is junk
[08:37:00] feld: i couldnt get any sound out of it

[08:37:00] feld: all i had was like left right surrond and rear
[08:37:00] hari_seldon99: Hi
[08:37:00] simcop2387: http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-5.html
[08:38:00] feld: hi hari_seldon99
[08:38:00] hari_seldon99: Does Commercial flagging/skipping in mythtv work out well for you fine folks?
[08:38:00] simcop2387: feld: alsamixer works, but the other generally dont, you need to turn up the following
[08:38:00] simcop2387: unless your using spdif (i dunno if that works)
[08:38:00] GeekZoid: thanx
[08:39:00] simcop2387: Analog Center, Front, Rear, Side
[08:39:00] simcop2387: and that got it workign for me
[08:39:00] feld: but how do i control that
[08:39:00] feld: which one controls the volume?
[08:39:00] feld: ;)
[08:39:00] feld: besides ALL
[08:39:00] feld: lol
[08:39:00] GeekZoid: thats wierd
[08:40:00] simcop2387: depends on which port on the back you have it in, i've got mine plugged into the "center" plug so i use center
[08:40:00] GeekZoid: i didnt know there was a better thing then cvs
[08:40:00] feld: its ok my little bro has an extra emu10k1 i think so i'm gonna get it from him this weekend.
[08:40:00] hari_seldon99: Not sure if my config is wrong, but none of the commercials in my recordings seem to get skipped
[08:40:00] hari_seldon99: despite the fact that logs say that they do
[08:40:00] feld: GeekZoid: SVN is better than CVS according to some
[08:40:00] hari_seldon99: ?????
[08:40:00] simcop2387: feld: yea i've wanted an emu10k1 too but i haven't found one yet
[08:40:00] feld: simcop2387: they're awesome cuz they work so well in linux
[08:41:00] simcop2387: yea
[08:41:00] simcop2387: thats how i ended up with my live 24-bit
[08:41:00] simcop2387: my old one that rocked (it was an old Trident 4d Wave DX, AWSOME SUPPORT, only card i ever got tv audio working with bttv cards with, it burned up :()
[08:42:00] simcop2387: feld: its the CA0106 driver in alsa right?
[08:45:00] hari_seldon99: I'd be mighty grateful if somebody culd offer advice regarding my problem
[08:45:00] GeekZoid: ok
[08:45:00] GeekZoid: well im now gettijng lame..
[08:45:00] Skiingsean: in xine wahat are the keyboard keys..... m1 and m3 and c1-c9
[08:46:00] GeekZoid: woo hoo
[08:46:00] GeekZoid: its compiling
[08:47:00] simcop2387: hari_seldon99: is the playback config setup to automatically skip them?
[08:47:00] hari_seldon99: I think so
[08:47:00] hari_seldon99: I went to Setup---tv-settings--playback---autoskip commercials
[08:48:00] GeekZoid: how much disk space shoudl ihave available for mythtv/
[08:48:00] simcop2387: hari_seldon99: well an easy way to make sure is to play a show, and while playing hit M to open up the recording menu and check out the commercial auto skip, also are you watching them as they record or after they are done (and commercial skip detection has finished)
[08:48:00] GeekZoid: in preperation...
[08:49:00] Gumby (n=gumby@unaffiliated/gumby) has joined #mythtv-users
[08:49:00] hari_seldon99: I watch long after the recording is done (usually).
[08:49:00] simcop2387: ok then that wouldn't be it
[08:50:00] simcop2387: honestly i'm not sure, i'm betting some config option isn't set correctly, its working fine for me
[08:50:00] hari_seldon99: hang on, I'll try one recording now
[08:50:00] virsys (n=virsys@or-65-40-180-181.dyn.sprint-hsd.net) Quit ("bah")
[08:50:00] simcop2387: ones that are currently recording won't have the commercial skip data yet

[08:51:00] simcop2387: on my system its usually a few minutes after it finishes that mythcommflag is done
[08:51:00] hari_seldon99: oh, so mythconnflag runs after the recording is complete?
[08:51:00] hari_seldon99: mythcommflag, sorrt
[08:52:00] feld: GeekZoid: i have a 300gb hard drive with 200gb partition taking care of all show recordings.
[08:52:00] simcop2387: depends on the configuration setup, on mine the job starts immediately when the recording starts
[08:53:00] hari_seldon99: simcop: where do I check to see if that's the case for me as well?
[08:53:00] simcop2387: hari_seldon99: you'll want to check out the settings related to jobs in mythsetup under general
[08:53:00] hari_seldon99: so mythtv-setup--.general?
[08:54:00] GeekZoid: hmm
[08:54:00] simcop2387: yea
[08:54:00] GeekZoid: feld: If im not doing any recording

[08:54:00] simcop2387: GeekZoid: probably
[08:55:00] feld: GeekZoid: testing tonight i find that 1hr ~= 2gigs
[08:55:00] simcop2387: you could also store a show or two on there
[08:55:00] GeekZoid: feld: cool. Well it loosk like the cvs version is compiling onm y computer
[08:55:00] GeekZoid: so im quite happy
[08:55:00] simcop2387: feld: thats about what i found, i played with quality, anything lower is almost too bad
[08:55:00] GeekZoid: maybe i'll go to ebd and let it compile
[08:55:00] hari_seldon99: my screen res is a bit small, but there is a setting under Job Queue (Global) that says Start Auto-Commercial Flagging Jobs when ...(can't see the rest). That's checked, is that it?
[08:56:00] simcop2387: should be
[08:56:00] simcop2387: what about job settings such as when they can start? and how often to check, should be on the page before
[08:56:00] virsys (n=virsys@or-65-40-180-181.dyn.sprint-hsd.net) Quit ("bah")
[08:56:00] simcop2387: or maybe the two before
[08:56:00] hari_seldon99: I'll look
[08:58:00] hari_seldon99: There is a "Host Specific" Job Queue before that asks "Allow Commercial Detection Jobs" and another "Allow" checkbox after that. I've got both checked

[17:59:00] erich141: I have PVR-250 and using tuner0 input for cable happily for long time. But I have troubles using S-Video on the same card for sattelite using external top-box
[17:59:00] AOX: Anybody here good with DVDauthor? I have clips that I am really close to having a finished disc with. My problem is that on the DVD in a HW player, it pauses between chapter1 and chapter2 and chapter3 instead of continuing seamlessly. I've looked at the DVDauthor mailing lists and they say something about this java program called "Project X" that I might need to use for help. Can anybody help me?
[18:00:00] erich141: does anyone know if this configuration can work in principle?
[18:00:00] GreyFoxx: erich141: Ahh. I'm using multiple capture devices, but I briefly did it on a single card
[18:00:00] GreyFoxx: It will, but of course you will only be able to recording from 1 at at given time
[18:00:00] erich141: aye, I understand it. Ok thanks will play with it more then :)
[18:01:00] Dagmar: Stuff like that is why I got the PVR500
[18:01:00] erich141: there is one thing I do not understand though – if I have overlapping channel numbers in SAT and cable, how will MythTV know which device to use?
[18:02:00] Dagmar: Now if I can just figure out how to move the second copy of MPlayer around the screen through an external script I'll have some fun stuff for Picture-in-Picture
[18:02:00] Dagmar: erich141: When you define your sources, they containn the channel lineups.
[18:02:00] Beirdo: mplayer?
[18:02:00] Beirdo: hmm?
[18:02:00] Dagmar: Beirdo: You know what facility I have to access to move windows around the screen?
[18:02:00] GreyFoxx: erich141: It internally tracks them by a channel id, not by the channel number
[18:02:00] Beirdo: what does mplayer have to do with mythtv playback?
[18:03:00] Dagmar: Mplayer is used for the stuff in the Video archive
[18:03:00] Beirdo: can be used
[18:03:00] Beirdo: but that has nothing to do with picture in picture
[18:03:00] Dagmar: ...and I'm also thinking about hacking it up so that the second display slides into the screen instead of just appearing a few seconds later
[18:03:00] GreyFoxx: If you configure that way which I think is the default. You can use the internal player however and keep consistant controls, OSD, etc etc
[18:03:00] Beirdo: it's not used at ALL for TV playback
[18:03:00] mishehu: Beirdo: got my ir blaster working yesterday, and I'm a much happier person now. heh.
[18:04:00] Beirdo: cool, mishehu
[18:04:00] Dagmar: The same facility I am sure needs to be accessed for both modes
[18:04:00] erich141: but when I start MythTV in "Watch TV" mode and enter "100" with remote, how does it know if it is channel 100 on SAT or cable – i.e. will it use "tuner0" or "s-video" input?
[18:04:00] Beirdo: Dagmar: well, I guess you'll have fun reading code :)
[18:04:00] Dagmar: Beirdo: I do a lot of that anyway
[18:04:00] Dagmar: It gives me something to do while waiting for binary packages to complete.
[18:05:00] GreyFoxx: erich141: Can't answer that personally, I've never had overlaps like that. My analog channels stop around ~75 and my others start around 115 and up
[18:05:00] Dagmar: ...and since I've got Qt building right now, I've got some time.  ;)
[18:05:00] ** Beirdo curses openssl **

[18:06:00] Beirdo: gotta update like 20 production webservers, all of which need an apache rebuild
[18:07:00] Dagmar: Ah.... You need to make a binary release (or at least a script to do it) then
[18:07:00] GreyFoxx: Hahaha my Grandmother just asked me to build her a Myth box :)
[18:07:00] Beirdo: OMG
[18:07:00] GreyFoxx: She's been at my parents for the last couple days and using theirs. Now she wants one heh. I can just imagine all of the daytime soaps it's going to record
[18:08:00] Beirdo: Dagmar: can't. 4 different OS versions, several need very specific modules
[18:08:00] Dagmar: Beirdo: Still, 4 packages is better than 20 manual bulds
[18:08:00] Beirdo: it's the SAME
[18:08:00] Beirdo: and it's not much different
[18:09:00] Dagmar: For *this* time
[18:09:00] Beirdo: Solaris packages are such a PITA
[18:09:00] Dagmar: If you script it now, the next time you will have the scripts to use.
[18:09:00] Dagmar: Hey they're better than Slackware packages.
[18:09:00] Beirdo: bah
[18:09:00] Dagmar: I always feel bad about saying it, but it's true.
[18:09:00] Beirdo: I'm not making it easier for others
[18:09:00] Beirdo: heh
[18:10:00] Beirdo: Oh, and they have different versions of perl, so mod_perl needs rebuilding for each
[18:10:00] Dagmar: Ouch.
[18:10:00] Beirdo: and a couple need PHP too
[18:10:00] Dagmar: You have got to get that under control or it's going to run you into the ground.
[18:10:00] Beirdo: no shit
[18:10:00] Beirdo: but these are production machines
[18:10:00] Beirdo: so...
[18:10:00] Dagmar: When I was at iAsiaWorks I spent a LOT of time working up binary release scripts.
[18:10:00] Beirdo: not much I can do about this
[18:11:00] Beirdo: OK. openssl 0.9.7i for Sol 7
[18:11:00] Beirdo: step one
[18:11:00] Dagmar: It took me about three months to get most of the stuff in sync, but after that I could push out an update to the entire freaking planet in about forty minutes--counting the time it took the things to download to Taiwan and so forth
[18:11:00] Beirdo: oh believe me, this is WAY better than it used to be
[18:13:00] Dagmar: I know I definitely want to get rid of the encoder lag on this, or at least hide it.
[18:13:00] AOX: Where's a good channel to go for help putting nuvs on a DVD disc?
[18:13:00] Dagmar: It's suboptimal that calling up the PIP display takes a second or so to actually appear
[18:14:00] Dagmar: AOX: The KnoppMyth guys have a plugin in their config that lets you do that. You might want to just get on their user list
[18:14:00] GreyFoxx: Dagmar: imho a screen should be displayed immediately with a "openning tuner" message so that the user at least sees something is happenning
[18:14:00] Dagmar: GreyFoxx: That's my thinking, too.
[18:15:00] AOX: Dagmar: I might be past that part of it already. I'm stuck with dvdauthor producing discs that pause at the end of each chapter.
[18:15:00] GreyFoxx: something similar on a channel change might be nice too. With say a moving cursor/bar/whatever to show it's not locked up
[18:15:00] Dagmar: I figured if I could hack something in to make at least a black window appear _sliding_ into the display, it would make the delay look like showboating instead of a hardware limitation
[18:17:00] AOX: Dagmar: have you used DVDauthor?
[18:17:00] Dagmar: AOX: Nope. I'm lazy. My burner came with Nero so I just use that when I need to burn a custom disc

[18:19:00] AOX: Dagmar: on nero did you take a big mpeg and set chapter points? or many video clips each which is a chapter and make one title out of it?

[18:19:00] laga: sad

[18:19:00] AOX: Dagmar: when you prepare a disc from multiple clips and use each clip as a chapter of a title.... do you get a pause between chapters?

[18:22:00] AOX: Dagmar: in the dvdauthor TODO file in /usr/share/documentation... it says. . provide a full example case on the website, buttons, menus, multiple chapters without pauses, etc. so I figured at least someone knows howto do it.

[18:32:00] Dagmar: www.pricewatch.com. You can get it for way less than that.
[18:33:00] Dagmar: I only paid $138 for my PVR-500

[18:33:00] GreyFoxx: a1fa: It's also the most "Flexible" option
[18:33:00] GreyFoxx: though with the new xv support for the 350's that's less of a concern than it use to be

[18:36:00] Beirdo: but the capture part won't until they fix the f'ing drivers :)
[18:36:00] Dagmar: a1fa: The Vantas are very stripped down is why
[18:36:00] Dagmar: a1fa: Look for a TNT2 M64.

[20:59:00] GreyFoxx: whyz: mplayer has a mpeg output mode which dumps to a mpg file, and you can specify the file name, so maybe you can convert/dump directlty to the 350's decoder
[20:59:00] GreyFoxx: I don't have a 350 around for testing anymore to try it
[20:59:00] whyz: GreyFoxx, yeah, i was just thinking the same thing.. poking around in vlc for the same thing right now
[20:59:00] Dagmar: Yep. that's gotta be useful--reencoding as mpeg2 just to use a hardware decoder
[21:00:00] GreyFoxx: hehe
[21:00:00] GreyFoxx: yeah

[21:05:00] Dagmar: GreyFoxx: Exactly what magic invocation did you use to get it to put the binaries somewhere otehr than the live filesystem?
[21:06:00] GreyFoxx: I didn't
[21:06:00] a1fa: wow
[21:06:00] a1fa: this is nice
[21:06:00] a1fa: does it come with serial ird?
[21:06:00] Dagmar: INSTALL_ROOT=/tmp/foo/`pwd`/usr/usr/ gets me CLOSE but some files are still winding up in the wrong places
[21:06:00] GreyFoxx: I installed them on the live system, and pulled in the binaries from there.
[21:06:00] Dagmar: GreyFoxx: Okay then you were working with a polluted build environment. I don't do that
[21:06:00] GreyFoxx: Define polluted
[21:06:00] Dagmar: Most of the time I keep /usr mounted read-only when I'm building, just to be sure.
[21:07:00] Dagmar: Once they get the overlay fs working properly again, I'm going to go back to using a union mount to detect anything that gets thrown in the live filesystem by accident
[21:07:00] a1fa: i need ir
[21:07:00] Dagmar: GreyFoxx: When you are making a binary package, it should *not* actually modify the host operating system files at all.
[21:07:00] a1fa: Dagmar : what reciever should i get ?:
[21:07:00] Dagmar: a1fa: Any serial dongle will work with that
[21:07:00] GreyFoxx: Dagmar: In your definition.
[21:08:00] Dagmar: GreyFoxx: No, actually that's a best practice.
[21:08:00] GreyFoxx: And generally I would agree
[21:08:00] GreyFoxx: Again "best practice" is an opinion, even if it's a commonly held one
[21:08:00] a1fa: hehe
[21:08:00] a1fa: LO
[21:08:00] Dagmar: You can't very well cross-compile binary packages if you let the things pollute your build environment, either.
[21:08:00] a1fa: loool
[21:08:00] GreyFoxx: Who said anything about cross compiling? I certainly didn''t
[21:09:00] GreyFoxx: Of course that would be a different ball of wax
[21:09:00] Dagmar: Yeah, well, I tend to follow best practices, especially when they coincide with what I've learned through the pain and suffering of trying to just slap things into working
[21:09:00] Dagmar: You may note that pretty much every linux distro's rpm/deb/pkg scripts use an isolated build root.
[21:10:00] Dagmar: ...even Slackware, with one or two particularly evil exceptions.
[21:10:00] GreyFoxx: make install; find /usr -mtime -1 -type f > filelist; mkdir mythstuff; cat filelist | awk '{print "cp --parents " $1 " ./mythstuff/" }' ; makepkg mythstuff
[21:10:00] GreyFoxx: Obviously it's ugly
[21:10:00] GreyFoxx: but it was easy and worked without any problem :)
[21:11:00] GreyFoxx: though I think that line would need some tweaking to work
[21:11:00] Dagmar: Yeah, I think I'm just going to walk through the directories and use the install binary to move the relevant files.
[21:11:00] Dagmar: Thank god the makefiles don't try to compile anything more during the install phase.
[21:12:00] a1fa: ;(

[23:37:00] ** kormoc blinks **
[23:38:00] kormoc: and what's the error?
[23:38:00] screevo: well, right now I'm trying mysql -u root < mc.sql
[23:39:00] screevo: and it says access denied for user root, using password=NO
[23:39:00] Krazylegz: screevo: If you have already setup MySQL, then try mysql -u root -p < mc.sql .
