[00:09:00] NightMonkey: Juski: Gentoo is getting a bit weird, as alot of "behind the scenes" work is no longer very visible via the Forums and alot happens on subprojects on www.gentoo.org, planet gentoo, the gentoo wiki, etc. Getting fractured.
[00:10:00] Juski: I'm starting to think wikis are evil
[00:10:00] NightMonkey: Juski: And there's a lot of subproject IRC channels now.

[01:16:00] simon_c: FunkyELF: Will be a mixer option won't it ?
[01:16:00] SpaceBass: seriously... this is the 5th time in this room channel and really not a very open place...
[01:16:00] FunkyELF: simon_c, I don't know...I didn't see it in alsamixer
[01:17:00] SpaceBass: there are thousands and thousands of LEGAL torrents... system, twit, etc
[01:17:00] klpt_____: it probably has a goofy name
[01:17:00] klpt_____: like IEC####
[01:17:00] simon_c: FunkyELF: I'm guessing.
[01:17:00] rjune: SpaceBass: that's nice. talk to Chutt
[01:18:00] SpaceBass: I can't understand how anything thinks this thing is going to work when people cannot even discuss integration with things like DSS or cable cards... got yelled at that earlier... i guess everyone is content to get content via an alnalogue capture card
[01:18:00] rjune: mythtv is already a borderline project
[01:18:00] FunkyELF: klpt_____, so every user has their own ~/.asoundrc ?
[01:18:00] Urgo: tuner: tuner type not set
[01:18:00] Urgo: anyone know how to fix that? when the ivtv driver gets loaded it detects my card as a type 57 (pvr500) but I get that in the loading of the driver, and if I try to use it..
[01:18:00] Urgo: http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/g29OBb23.html note line 80 for example. when I try to capture all I get is static
[01:18:00] klpt_____: you can get around that
[01:18:00] klpt_____: by putting it in
[01:18:00] klpt_____: "/etc/asound.conf"
[01:18:00] GreyFoxx: SpaceBass: You can certainly talk about dss, dvbs, cable cards and such. But you will NOT get help bypassing content providers encryption or security measures
[01:18:00] rjune: SpaceBass: chutt wants this to not even enter a grey area of legality.
[01:19:00] FunkyELF: myth eric # locate asound.conf
[01:19:00] FunkyELF: /usr/portage/media-sound/alsa-utils/files/alsasound.confd
[01:19:00] FunkyELF: ...I'm guessing that is not a file that exists by default?
[01:19:00] klpt_____: ?
[01:19:00] klpt_____: that's a very strange path
[01:19:00] klpt_____: and I'm not familiar with gentoo
[01:19:00] GreyFoxx: LOTS of dvb users in here, but noone in open channel is going to teach you how to get around nagra2 or any other scheme to get at the content that isn't FTA
[01:20:00] mmurphy: can anyone help me out witha pvr150
[01:20:00] klpt_____: what's your issue?
[01:20:00] SpaceBass: GreyFoxx: I never wanted to bypass anything... I'm a happy paying subscriber... I just want to capture the content directly, not hook a HD reciever to some analogue capture card and lose the whole point of digital content
[01:20:00] FunkyELF: man...I need to read this stuff sitting in a chair. Right now I am hunched over with a small monitor out in my living room by my TV

[01:21:00] GreyFoxx: SpaceBass: I understand your frustation, but the fact is that by not using the equipment provided by the provider for accessing the data you are bypassing their security measures
[01:21:00] SpaceBass: So, I thought... i can at least build a myth box for bittorrent and get shows like system, twit, etc (all free, legal, etc) and i get chastised for that
[01:21:00] klpt_____ is now known as klpt
[01:21:00] klpt: you shouldn't need any new drivers
[01:21:00] klpt: the ivtv 2.x series natively supports the 150 and 500
[01:21:00] rjune: SpaceBass: I wasn't chastising you, just warning you that chutt's anal about it
[01:21:00] klpt: just plug and go
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: Ok, Lets cut the bullshit here. Yeah there are legal uses for torrents of course, but the fact is that the majority of people using it are NOT using it to downlooad the latest ISOs of their favourite distro
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: And noone wants Myth even loosely related to any of that
[01:22:00] rjune: GreyFoxx: that's all you use it for right?
[01:22:00] o_c (n=o_cee@c83-249-49-150.bredband.comhem.se) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: Anything that brings lawsuit happylawyers and companies down on this project is BAD
[01:22:00] SpaceBass: sorry if I over reacted... but seriously... been here 5 times and each time I got a "we dont talk about that here" when I'm not trying to do anything suripitioutous
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: rjune: Hell no. I download episodes of stuff
[01:23:00] mmurphy: klpt: im a newbie so bare with me ... i don't have ivtv-utils installed and if i grep rpm i think i may have ivtv-firmware-2.02.023–3 so would that be the 2.x you are refeering to?
[01:23:00] rjune: LOL as do I
[01:23:00] GreyFoxx: But I sure as hell wont tell people how to do it here
[01:23:00] rjune: however, I also pay for the content
[01:23:00] rjune: so if I d/l episodes of stuff it's legal for me to record....
[01:23:00] klpt: you don't need the utils, just the base drivers – which you obviously have if your 350 works
[01:24:00] simon_c: Is there anyway to get myth to record radio shows from radio channels that also stream their content ? Or any plans to ?
[01:24:00] SpaceBass: I pay us$110 for tv a month... I have a $150/month itunes bill... not steeling any content here...
[01:24:00] klpt: and the firmware version isn't very helpful
[01:24:00] rjune: SpaceBass: you watch too much tv
[01:24:00] rjune: :-)
[01:24:00] SpaceBass: rjune: i travel a LOT... watch a lot on planes
[01:25:00] klpt: mmurphy: run this:
[01:25:00] klpt: dmesg | grep -i "ivtv: version"
[01:25:00] mmurphy: klpt: i know i have the base drivers ... but since i don't have ivtv-utils i don't know how to find out which version other then rpm | greg which gave me the above (ivtv-firmware-2.02.023–3).
[01:25:00] rjune: regardless of what you do, mythtv can already be seen as being grey legally, and chutt wants to minimize that
[01:26:00] mmurphy: klpt: no output
[01:26:00] SpaceBass: and i understand that... legit concern... but I'm just trying to rationalize this... why build a $1000 DVR when I can get another HD tivo for $300... granted it can't do everything, but it can do HD direct from the DSS
[01:26:00] klpt: try
[01:26:00] klpt: dmesg | grep -i ivtv
[01:26:00] klpt: that'll show all ivtv output

[01:26:00] GreyFoxx: SpaceBass: Then you just laid it out. It doesn't make sense for you to build one
[01:27:00] klpt: well, between mythtv itself, mythburn, and a portable dvd player, it might be OK for him

[07:07:00] FunkyELF: I have two 300GB hard disks
[07:07:00] PaulWay[w]: You lucky devil!
[07:07:00] PaulWay[w]: Are you mirroring?
[07:07:00] FunkyELF: nah
[07:07:00] Rince: PaulWay[w]: in the setup/general I can only set the database-connection (as far as I can see), that's why I am wondering...
[07:07:00] FunkyELF: I was thinking about dual-booting, but probably not anymore
[07:08:00] PaulWay[w]: Hmmm. I'm sure it was in there somewhere.
[07:08:00] FunkyELF: What I am gonna try to do is set up an encrypted filesystem to store my mp3's / videos and such
[07:08:00] PaulWay[w]: I'm not at home at the moment so I can't check. Can any of you guys check where the option to set the mythbackend machine in the mythfrontend setup?
[07:08:00] FunkyELF: "in case someone breaks into my house and steals my computer, I wouldn't want the RIAA to go after them since the theif doesn't own the originals like I do" ;-)
[07:09:00] FunkyELF: It is in option 1 I believe
[07:09:00] Rince: PaulWay[w]: that's what I thought too :)
[07:10:00] ShockValue: if they steal your computer, they have your encryption keys too.. what good would that do?
[07:11:00] Rince: anyway... godda catch the bus, see you later
[07:11:00] FunkyELF: ShockValue, how would they have my encryption keys?
[07:11:00] ShockValue: your private keys are usually stored on your computer.
[07:11:00] PaulWay[w]: FunkyELF: where do the encryption keys come from? Do you type them in in a command to unlock your storage?
[07:12:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], yes
[07:12:00] FunkyELF: you generate a random master key using /dev/random or whatever
[07:12:00] PaulWay[w]: Then they have the public keys from your terminal history.
[07:12:00] FunkyELF: then you encrypt that using a passphrase of your choosing
[07:12:00] FunkyELF: what is stored on the hard drive an encrypted copy of the master key
[07:12:00] ShockValue: so you have to type in a password every time you wanna listen to an mp3?
[07:12:00] FunkyELF: at boot time you need to enter a password to mount that drive
[07:13:00] ShockValue: i guess that would slow them down.
[07:13:00] FunkyELF: That doesn't get stored in the terminal history
[07:13:00] PaulWay[w]: True.
[07:13:00] FunkyELF: they use symetric ciphers which are pretty fast
[07:14:00] PaulWay[w]: You could get it in a variety of ways if you could get the box in a running state.
[07:14:00] FunkyELF: ...and there is a way to encrypt swap and /tmp
[07:14:00] PaulWay[w]: I.e. don't unplug it.
[07:14:00] PaulWay[w]: If they really need the key, they get you and make you type it in or you get your fingers broken.
[07:15:00] FunkyELF: I've never heard of the MPAA or RIAA doin that
[07:15:00] FunkyELF: anyone here familiar with LVM?
[07:15:00] PaulWay[w]: Or the police get you and force you to hand over your keys as part of their investigation, and if you don't they assert that you're holding masses of illegal stuff on there and give you the maximum sentence.
[07:15:00] PaulWay[w]: FunkyELF: They have lawyers to do it for you.

[07:16:00] PaulWay[w]: Yeah, what do you want to know?
[07:16:00] FunkyELF: i extended my LVM today but when I run df it is showing /store as 22% after I copied those 2 shows over
[07:16:00] PaulWay[w]: Rince: How are you getting on?
[07:16:00] FunkyELF: I extended it by 50 gig
[07:16:00] PaulWay[w]: Did you also extend the file system?
[07:16:00] FunkyELF: is there something I need to run afterwards to make it realize that?
[07:17:00] FunkyELF: well...I have most of a 300 gig hard drive as a physical volume
[07:17:00] FunkyELF: I added that whole physical volume to a volume group called vg

[07:18:00] FunkyELF: then I created some logical volumes in it including /dev/vg/store which was 10 gig
[07:18:00] [Klatuu] (n=blah@67-40-213-66.tukw.qwest.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[07:18:00] FunkyELF: then I extended it by 45gig to make it 55 gig
[07:18:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], no, it still shows it as 10 gig
[07:19:00] FunkyELF: all I ran was lvextend -L+45G /dev/vg/store
[07:19:00] PaulWay[w]: You need to extend your file system to match the logical partition's size.
[07:19:00] FunkyELF: do I need to run something else?
[07:19:00] PaulWay[w]: logical volume, sorry.
[07:19:00] PaulWay[w]: What file system are you running on it?
[07:19:00] FunkyELF: jfs
[07:20:00] PaulWay[w]: Righto. I think you can extend that.
[07:20:00] ip_goat_rodeo: jfs and xfs I'm pretty sure you can, don't know about others.

[07:21:00] PaulWay[w]: You can extend reiserfs too. I use xfs.
[07:21:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], so what command is that. Like I said, I already ran lvextend
[07:21:00] ip_goat_rodeo: I used xfs back in the SGI days
[07:21:00] PaulWay[w]: It should put the data into the programs table, prolific_.
[07:21:00] PaulWay[w]: It's open source now, ip_goat_rodeo
[07:21:00] ip_goat_rodeo: yeah, but the best bits are gone
[07:21:00] PaulWay[w]: Hey, give me a break, I'm answering three questions and looking it up on the web.
[07:22:00] kahuna_: What WM do you guys suggest for Myth?
[07:22:00] PaulWay[w]: FunkyELF: http://tdlp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/extendlv.html
[07:22:00] PaulWay[w]: kahuna_: I use gnome and it's fine.
[07:22:00] ip_goat_rodeo: the integration with the SGI lvm system was best bit about xfs
[07:23:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], that brougth me to an emedicine site
[07:23:00] PaulWay[w]: Interesting. FunkyELF, do 'mount -o remount,resize /store'
[07:23:00] PaulWay[w]: oops, that'll teach me to type URLs.
[07:23:00] PaulWay[w]: tldp.org
[07:23:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], do I need to run vgscan or vgchange or anything like that?
[07:23:00] kahuna_: Cool. I won't be running a desktop. What's lightweight and works?
[07:23:00] ip_goat_rodeo: twm?
[07:24:00] kahuna_: lol
[07:24:00] PaulWay[w]: You've extended the logical volume, that's it.
[07:24:00] kahuna_: now thats lightwieght
[07:24:00] PaulWay[w]: ip_goat_rodeo: what integration was that?
[07:24:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], okay...now I need to extend the filesystem
[07:24:00] PaulWay[w]: kahuna_: and it works, apparently :-)
[07:24:00] PaulWay[w]: FunkyELF: does df -k tell you this is true?
[07:24:00] kahuna_: good.
[07:24:00] kahuna_: thanks guys
[07:25:00] FunkyELF: df -k shows it as 10 gig
[07:25:00] PaulWay[w]: Use the mount command I gave above.
[07:25:00] prolific_: should i run mythsetup as root or user ?
[07:25:00] PaulWay[w]: prolific_: root.
[07:26:00] prolific_: ok
[07:26:00] FunkyELF: PaulWay[w], yup, that did it
[07:26:00] FunkyELF: ...great
[07:26:00] ip_goat_rodeo: didn't have to manually resize things, guaranteed bandwidth (for instance I require 30mbyte/sec to the volume I store my uncompressed video and system will drop everything else to give it)
[07:26:00] ip_goat_rodeo: the guaranteed bandwidth in xlv/xfs was great
[07:27:00] PaulWay[w]: ip_goat_rodeo: I'm working on an idea for a file system that includes automatic redundancy across multiple volumes, without sacrificing disk space.
[07:27:00] ip_goat_rodeo: no dropped frames on video captures
[07:27:00] FunkyELF: now I can go to sleep ;-)
[07:27:00] ip_goat_rodeo: store parity in hyperspace?
[07:27:00] PaulWay[w]: ip_goat_rodeo: But to work it has to know what sections of the file system are on what disks.
[07:27:00] PaulWay[w]: ip_goat_rodeo: store duplicate copies of inodes and data distributed across the disks.
[07:28:00] PaulWay[w]: Then if one dies, you still have a backup copy.
[07:28:00] ip_goat_rodeo: I just raid1 everything *shrug*
[07:29:00] PaulWay[w]: The catch is that if you go beyond the capacity of the mirrored equivalent of your disk space, then what's written isn't backed up.
[07:29:00] PaulWay[w]: ip_goat_rodeo: when I have money I'll do that.
[07:29:00] PaulWay[w]: OK, time for me to get back to work.

[07:50:00] prolific_: mythfilldatabase isnt putting anything there

[07:50:00] PaulWay[w]: a database is made up of tables which are made up of fields.

[13:59:00] klpt: so when you go back to mythtv-setup it just isn't there anymore?
[13:59:00] moogman: When I click "Finish", it doesn't even show up in the listbox
[13:59:00] moogman: It just stays as "(New Capture Card)"

[14:00:00] moogman: There are a few database errors at the top
[14:01:00] klpt: did you create the mythconverg database? did you tell the mythtv-setup program where it was in the first menu dialog?
[14:01:00] moogman: I haven't created the database
[14:01:00] klpt: d'oh!
[14:01:00] moogman: Although mysqld is running, and a database exists there
[14:01:00] klpt: that's like... the very first step
[14:02:00] klpt: http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html#toc6.2
[14:02:00] moogman: Haha ok. Well I apt-get'd in mythtv in Ubuntu and assumed it'd do the majority of the work
[14:02:00] laga: that's like..you didn't read the docs
[14:02:00] moogman: laga: You are correct. Ubuntu has made me lazy :S
[14:03:00] moogman: Hmm, I wonder why the ubuntu package doesn't auto-configure this for you
[14:03:00] laga: moogman: well, actually, the package mythtv-database should have taken care of that
[14:04:00] moogman: laga: Hmm. I installed the package. I'll read the README.Debian
[14:05:00] laga: sounds good
[14:05:00] klpt: what are the database errors the program spits out?
[14:05:00] moogman: Errors that make it obvious that 'mythconverg.keybindings doesn't exist :p
[14:05:00] klpt: ahh
[14:06:00] moogman: First error... "QString::arg(): Argument missing: ERROR: Unable to acquire database upgrade lock, Driver error was [2/1017]:"
[14:06:00] klpt: btw, if you don't know SQL or are a lazy SOB (like me) install phpmyadmin so you can putz around the database more easily
[14:07:00] moogman: I'm happy with SQL
[14:07:00] moogman: moogman@greebo:~$ mysql -u root < /usr/share/mythtv/sql/mc.sql

[14:07:00] moogman: It seems that mythtv-database did a half job
[14:07:00] klpt: when you ran mythtv-setup
[14:07:00] klpt: under general settings
[14:07:00] klpt: did you configure database access?
[14:07:00] klpt: ie, specified the mysql server?
[14:08:00] moogman: It was set to localhost
[14:08:00] moogman: mythtv-setup connects to the db
[14:10:00] moogman: I originally thought it was stupid to have a mythtv. I just figured out why... because of DVR boxes and keyboard-less systems etc, with gdm autologin. D'oh!
[14:10:00] malaTG: Hi everyone! A question. Is there a changelog over which changes that has been made in the cvs?
[14:10:00] moogman: s/have a mythtv/have a mythtv user/
[14:10:00] laga: malaTG: look for commits and tickets at svn.mythtv.org
[14:11:00] malaTG: thx
[14:13:00] malaTG: Is there anything said about when 0.19 will be released?
[14:14:00] klpt: current word from the devs is: it'll be a while
[14:14:00] klpt: and that's all
[14:14:00] laga: "when it's done"
[14:14:00] moogman: Aha this is better. I dropped the table, re-ran the sql script and it seems to have no errors
[14:14:00] klpt: which sounds fine to me, since anybody is welcome to use SVN
[14:15:00] klpt: ...and on that note
[14:15:00] klpt: I can't compile mythplugins from SVN – at least not for the last couple of weeks
[14:15:00] malaTG: how hard is it to uprgade to svn?
[14:15:00] malaTG: I use my myth very much daily
[14:15:00] moogman: Ah much better. {klpt, laga}, shall I add an Ubuntu section to the Wiki/FAQ?
[14:16:00] klpt: ehh, maybe contact the pkg maintainer and tell him his pkg sucks
[14:16:00] moogman: Haha
[14:16:00] klpt: or explain the bug
[14:16:00] moogman: I'll do that
[14:16:00] klpt: your call
[14:16:00] klpt: :p
[14:16:00] klpt: anyway, I'm getting compile errors on all the subdirs of mythplugins
[14:17:00] klpt: make[2]: *** No rule to make target `mythconfig.mak', needed by `Makefile'. Stop.
[14:17:00] moogman: Well contacting the package manager wont help with old versions of Ubuntu, only future so I guess I'll add both
[14:17:00] klpt: I checked the mailing list
[14:17:00] malaTG: do you use your svn distributions daily or more like check them for errors?
[14:17:00] moogman: klpt: Try running the autogen.sh script again?
[14:18:00] klpt: I've run the configure script
[14:18:00] klpt: and it seems ok
[14:18:00] klpt: and it makes a symlink to my mythconfig.mak file on my system
[14:18:00] klpt: and the symlink works
[14:18:00] klpt: but none of the subdirs want to compile
[14:18:00] klpt: I tried copying the actual file to each of the subdirs (what someone on the mailing list did)

[18:15:00] klpt: I use a TV to watch my mythfrontend – it's a lot nicer than sitting at a computer monitor

[19:27:00] malaTG: Hi everyone!
[19:29:00] malaTG: A question, is it hard to upgrade from Axels mythtv distribution to the svn and does the svn work for everyday use?
[19:30:00] deego: malaTG: what is "Axels"? newbie here
[19:30:00] deego: and svn?
[19:31:00] malaTG: Axels is the compiled version for fedora
[19:31:00] kormoc: malaTG, depends on your knowledge level more then anything else
[19:31:00] kormoc: malaTG, and as for ready for everday use? lots of people use it, but it does break randomly in odd ways at times
[19:32:00] deego: ah, and svn == bleeding edge, ok
[19:32:00] malaTG: ok because I've used mythtv for a while now and I would like to contribute but I also want to use it "normally"
[19:33:00] malaTG: a would say that my linux skills are fairly good, used linux for 3–4 years now
[19:34:00] malaTG: Is ther any guide or instruction on how to upgrade to svn
[19:34:00] malaTG: ?
[19:37:00] kormoc: malaTG, not really, you just uninstall your version, checkout the svn code, compile it and run it
[19:38:00] malaTG: does all my settings go to hell?
[19:39:00] updatelee: svn isnt working so great for me on dishnet
[19:39:00] updatelee: haveing trouble tuning into station, haveto try two three times
[19:40:00] malaTG: ok......
[19:40:00] updatelee: you on dishnet as well ? it might work better/worse on other sat's I dont know
[19:40:00] malaTG: no Im from sweden
[19:41:00] malaTG: don't use sat I use cable
[19:42:00] kormoc: malaTG, setting are preserved in the database
[19:42:00] updatelee: worth a try then might work good for you.
[19:42:00] updatelee: just backup your mysql db just to be sure then you can play all you want and not loose your settings.
[19:43:00] malaTG: ok that's good so if I fail I can always return to Axels dist?
[19:43:00] kormoc: actually not
[19:43:00] kormoc: when you use the svn release, it updates the database schema
[19:43:00] updatelee: http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.5
[19:43:00] malaTG: ok
[19:43:00] kormoc: you'd need to backup the current db before you try the svn so you can restore back to the database layout .18.1 expects
[19:44:00] updatelee: thats why you take a backup of your db, so you can go back :)

[20:07:00] Beirdo: and the chiropractor confirmed what I already knew.
[20:07:00] kormoc: Cardoe, I read it awhile ago on the ivtv list, there was no ivtv tuner module until the 150/500 came out, because they were using the kernel one, so they made theirs to figure out what changes needed to be made and the plan was to port them to the kernel tuner.ko and remove the ivtv one.
[20:07:00] Beirdo: my neck is a bit fuxored
[20:07:00] kormoc: ouchies
[20:08:00] Beirdo: what were the words she used?

[20:08:00] Beirdo: "your neck definitely has a limited range of motion"
[20:08:00] Beirdo: :)
[20:08:00] Cardoe: kormoc: so pvr250/350 can use the ivtv one
[20:08:00] Cardoe: it's no diff
[20:10:00] kormoc: Cardoe, I think the issue is they are not testing it on them tho, so it might randomly break on the 250/350/179's while working on the 150/500's

[20:11:00] ** kormoc nods **

[20:12:00] kormoc: sadly you can't just compile the tuner.

[20:28:00] Ribs: Timing buffered disk reads: 110 MB in 3.00 seconds = 36.61 MB/sec
[20:28:00] Ribs: The problem only started recently, could it be caused by poor reception?
[20:28:00] Ribs: It's odd, the sound will stutter, and the video will seem to speed up or slow down to match it
[20:29:00] Ribs: top never shows the cpu above about 80%, which is what I would expect for this system
[20:29:00] cassepieds: cardoe, i can post a ivtvctl -a but the others wont be happy – can we talk separate?

[20:38:00] Ribs: I thought that was correct?
[20:38:00] roger55: Ribs, I have no idea, I have a normal analogue card with an epia m10000 and I need to set the capture lower than that.
[20:39:00] Ribs: roger55: The funny thing is, it *used* to work great. It only broke when I moved the box to another location and had to re-tune it

[23:24:00] FunkyELF: hey guys...I got a question about MythWeb
[23:24:00] FunkyELF: When I click on the top button..."Myth Video on the Web"...I get this error...
[23:24:00] FunkyELF: Fatal Error at /var/www/localhost/htdocs/mythweb/video.php, line 27:
[23:24:00] FunkyELF: SQL Error: Table 'mythconverg.videocategory' doesn't exist
[23:25:00] FunkyELF: do I need mythvideo installed for that?
[23:25:00] GreyFoxx: Yes
[23:25:00] FunkyELF: okay...2nd question....
[23:26:00] FunkyELF: when I go to Recorded programs and click on a program...
[23:26:00] FunkyELF: The requested URL /mythweb/video_dir/1073_20051014003000_20051014010000.nuv was not found on this server.
[23:27:00] FunkyELF: what is up with that?...it has a picture from it, all the information seems correct...
[23:27:00] FunkyELF: what is the supposed to do if it were working?
[23:27:00] FunkyELF: ...download the .nuv file?
[23:27:00] GreyFoxx: yes
[23:27:00] GreyFoxx: It would download/play in your configured player
[23:28:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, does your's do that?
[23:28:00] GreyFoxx: Do what ? Give that error ?>
[23:28:00] FunkyELF: no...download the file?
[23:29:00] GreyFoxx: It would yes. Ask me if I wanted to download it or open it (in my configured player)
[23:29:00] FunkyELF: do you want to download it or open it?
[23:30:00] FunkyELF: should I create a symbolic link /var/www/localhost/htdocs/mythweb/video_dir and point it to /mnt/store which is where I have my recordings?
[23:30:00] FunkyELF: ...is that how your's works?
[23:30:00] GreyFoxx: If you want it to work yes
[23:30:00] GreyFoxx: yes
[23:30:00] GreyFoxx: well no
[23:30:00] GreyFoxx: mine is and nfs mount of the mythtv recordings directory
[23:30:00] GreyFoxx: but if you are running mythweb on the backend then yes a symlink would be fine
[23:31:00] FunkyELF: okay....that is the standard way to do it?
[23:31:00] GreyFoxx: Yes
[23:31:00] FunkyELF: I am thinking I went overkill on my system. I was recording 2 things at a time yesterday and it was using 0.5% of my CPU. When I was recording 1 thing and watching it at the same time it was taking 10% and when I was recording 2 things and watching them both (using picture in picture) it was using %14 of the CPU
[23:32:00] GreyFoxx: hehe
[23:32:00] FunkyELF: ...so I might as well run mythweb off of there...and a couple of game servers lol
[23:32:00] GreyFoxx: If you have hardware based compression, or dvb/hdtv then recording takes basically no cpu :)
[23:32:00] NightMonkey: FunkyELF: When watching your shows via MythWeb, make sure that your Apache can handle >2GB files (if your files are bigger than 2 GB).
[23:33:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, yeah...I noticed that which is great....so I can add 2 more PVR 500's for a total of 6 tuners
[23:33:00] GreyFoxx: If you need that many, then I would imagine so :)
[23:33:00] FunkyELF: I wonder what percent the disks are running at...wonder if they can keep up
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: sure they can unless you are capture all 6 at the same time, full bitrate and playing them back at the same time
[23:34:00] FunkyELF: Is there a way to get the .nuv files playable on a windows machine?
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: FunkyELF: What kind fo capture card ?
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: 500's ?
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: then they are just mpeg files with a .nuv filename
[23:35:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, yeah, I have 1 x Hauppauge 500MCE
[23:35:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, well...someone was saying that they were wrapped in a container...and I need a player that knows how to handle that
[23:35:00] PatrickDK: funky only for v4l ones nad stuff
[23:35:00] GreyFoxx: FunkyELF: That applies to the software based cards
[23:35:00] PatrickDK: not for the pvr-?50 cards
[23:36:00] PatrickDK: or the pvr-500
[23:36:00] GreyFoxx: the pvr cards, dvb etc are straight mpeg2
[23:36:00] GreyFoxx: well, mpeg2. Could be TS/PS if you have dvb. But still mpeg2
[23:38:00] FunkyELF: hrm...when I click on it, it wants to download it instead of stream it
[23:38:00] FunkyELF: ...even if I click on open with... it will download the whole thing before opening it with the program that I choose

[23:40:00] GreyFoxx: the browser probably doesn't understand what type of file it is. you might have to setup a mimetype in apache for it.
[23:40:00] GreyFoxx: I never play them that way so I've never really looked into it
[23:41:00] GreyFoxx: if I'm stuck watching on a windows box I would just do it over a file share
[23:41:00] GreyFoxx: if I'm local that is
[23:41:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, you can create a samba share on Linux
[23:41:00] GreyFoxx: I know :)

[23:42:00] FunkyELF: AddType video/mpeg .nuv
[23:42:00] FunkyELF: so now it opens up Windows Media Player, but now media player downloads the whole thing before playing it
[23:43:00] FunkyELF: ...is there a type that I can set it to so that it will stream?
[23:43:00] GreyFoxx: *shrug*

[23:43:00] GreyFoxx: ah I said. I don't play any of them that way to have bothered to really look into it
[23:44:00] FunkyELF: GreyFoxx, is that I did in my .htaccess setting up the mime type?
[23:44:00] PatrickDK: funkyelf, try recording as a TS stream instead of PS
[23:44:00] FunkyELF: what is TS and PS?
[23:44:00] PatrickDK: TS=transport stream
[23:44:00] PatrickDK: PS==program stream
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: TS was made for streaming video
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: ps was made for recorded video
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: basically
[23:45:00] FunkyELF: PatrickDK, so it has to do with the way that I recorded it and not the mime type that it is set up as?
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: funky, well, you need the mime type
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: but wmp might be saying it's a PS stream
[23:45:00] PatrickDK: so it download it all
[23:46:00] PatrickDK: where as with a TS stream, it might actually streamit
[23:46:00] FunkyELF: PatrickDK, what is the mime type for a streaming one?
[23:46:00] PatrickDK: though, I'm not saying wmp is that smart
[23:46:00] PatrickDK: dunno, I use video/mpeg
[23:46:00] FunkyELF: PatrickDK, and where is the option to record it as a TS in MythSetup ?
[23:46:00] PatrickDK: it's not in mythsetup
[23:46:00] PatrickDK: it's where you set the kbps you record at
[23:47:00] FunkyELF: PatrickDK, I put AddType video/mpeg .nuv to my .htaccess page
[23:47:00] FunkyELF: PatrickDK, and your's streams to windows boxes?

[23:48:00] gloin: hey, when I try to watch tv using mythtv, sound is seriously screwed up – it can be scratchy, echo, or time-shifted from the video. Without tweaking mixer settings, sound works fine in kdetv.
[23:48:00] gloin: oh also
[23:49:00] gloin: I recorded a show and it didn't have any sound at all
[23:49:00] gloin: uhh

[23:52:00] FunkyELF: actually...I only seem to be getting 1,000 kbps while downloading the file in the first place which is what it is recorded at actually. Maybe I need to learn how to transcode first then worry about streaming
[23:52:00] mchou: GreyFoxx: you'd had better luck asking for lspci :)
[23:52:00] gloin: GreyFoxx: it is a bt848/878 based card and is using the bttv driver
[23:52:00] gloin: thanks mchou
[23:52:00] gloin: =P
[23:53:00] GreyFoxx: gloin: then it sounds like you don't have your mixer settings done correctly to work with myth. There is a section on it on the mythtv.org docs site
[23:53:00] gloin: specifically, it's a bt878
[23:53:00] gloin: ergh, that says use the alsamixer but nothing in that doc lines up with the alsamixer I see...
