[01:03:00] grobnica_mladost: jhoke thanks a lot
[01:03:00] jhoke: if I can reproduce it regularly I will try and submit a bug report... happened twice with different songs/positions in the playlist... but it may be something on my end
[01:03:00] DarkBeer: mine would crash the front end when selecting import cd. updated libcdaudio and the problem went away
[01:05:00] jhoke: DarkBeer: I just reinstalled libcdaudio today, so I hope that I dont get hit with that one :) I will test it this weekend when I rip some more CDs ... I usually use my iMac and iTunes for that though (and share the music to myth via rsync to the mythbox ... added benefit of a backup of my 100+gb mp3 library)
[01:05:00] jhoke: another thing ... the size of my library may be too big for mythmusic (?)
[01:06:00] DarkBeer: heh, no idea. i've only imported 5 cds thus far
[01:06:00] DarkBeer: I did a FC4 install with Jarod's howto about a month ago, and last night used yum to update libcdaudio and it fixed my problem
[01:07:00] jhoke: I used to DJ and over the past 5 or so years have imported over 20 -25k songs ... which is why I back 'em up... the hell of re-ripping would not be fun
[01:07:00] jhoke: I used his howto as well, but uninstalled all the rpms for myth today and installed via source... was a good experience actually

[01:12:00] Flimzy: Okay, I now have a digital reciever with 2 tuners... and still have an analog receiver. Is it possible to make MythTV aware of the fact that the analog channels are duplicated on all 3 tuners, so that I don't end up in a situation where it's recording two instances of a program?
[01:13:00] Flimzy: or is that somehow automagical?
[01:13:00] kormoc: it should do that automagical
[01:13:00] Flimzy: I guess if nothing else, it would only record one show with the same title/description anyway, right?
[01:13:00] kormoc: as long as the backends are networked together (if there's more then one) it'll work fine
[01:14:00] Flimzy: all one backend (at this point)
[01:14:00] kormoc: then yeah, it can't not know
[01:14:00] Flimzy: So then my next question would be.. Suppose I set my digital tuners with a priority of +50 or something, so that a show will be recorded digitally instead of analog, if both options are available...
[01:15:00] Flimzy: hang on... still thinking the question through
[01:15:00] jhoke: Flimzy, yep
[01:15:00] Flimzy: Okay, here's the scenario... I set the dig tuners to +50
[01:16:00] kormoc: you set each tuner's order
[01:16:00] Flimzy: ah
[01:16:00] kormoc: so anything that can be recorded will record first on the dig
[01:16:00] kormoc: and then fall over to the others
[01:16:00] Flimzy: so I don't set a priority on there like I do on channels I "prefer"?
[01:16:00] kormoc: you do as well
[01:16:00] kormoc: so it orders the shows
[01:16:00] Flimzy: Can I set the analog recorder as the first in the order for shows that come in on analog stations only?
[01:17:00] Flimzy: So I'm not "wasting" my digital tuner on a show that's only available on analog?
[01:17:00] twisted_one (n=mmschnei@c-24-15-99-247.hsd1.il.comcast.net) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[01:17:00] kormoc: I think you can set a recording profile's perfered tuner if I'm not mistaken?
[01:17:00] Flimzy: Okay
[01:17:00] jhoke: you can set it up however you like... the docs explain it fairly well ... with some trial and error of course :)
[01:18:00] Flimzy: I'm waiting on mythfilldatabase to download all the new digital channel lineups right now...
[01:18:00] Flimzy: so I'll start my trial and error in a short time :)

[01:18:00] jhoke: I have 2 analogs, a 150 and 250 ... I have the 150 set up as the 'prefered' card because it is 'cleaner' ... the 250 I use for live tv and if the 150 is already recording...

[01:20:00] sgorilla: does mythtv support xine?
[01:20:00] Flimzy: B/c the digital tuner will be less CPU inensive, even for the analog channels (I think)
[01:20:00] GreyFoxx: sgorilla: What you mean by support it ?
[01:20:00] sgorilla: what does mythtv use for dvd playback?
[01:20:00] Mersault (n=michaelm@209.183.2.78) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:21:00] GreyFoxx: It's configurable. You can use mplayer, xine, or the internal player (which is not complete)
[01:21:00] GreyFoxx: Most tend to use xine
[01:22:00] Flimzy: When using Xine, does MythTV make any automated attempt to map Xine's control keys to match Myth's?
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: Flimzy: No
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: It's up to you
[01:22:00] Flimzy: but xine can use lirc, I assume? So it could be set up to be seamless, with some effort?
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: Or if you use lirc then you don't gotta worry about it
[01:22:00] GreyFoxx: yup
[01:23:00] Flimzy: I haven't gotten lirc working yet
[01:23:00] Flimzy: I think my IR receiver is defective

[01:24:00] Flimzy: I have a 3+Ghz AMD64 sitting idle 24/7, when it could be transcoding RTJpeg
[01:25:00] Flimzy: but can't get remote transcoding to work
[01:25:00] GreyFoxx: Flimzy: I'm sure you could, I've never done it though
[01:25:00] GreyFoxx: I don't really transcode any of it. Maybe 5 recordings in the last year :)
[01:26:00] Flimzy: I'm hoping that with this digital tuner, my transcoding needs will go way down
[01:26:00] Flimzy: but that's still only MPEG2 for the digital channels

[01:26:00] Flimzy: our 100gb partition fills up daily
[01:26:00] GreyFoxx: Well the nice thing with DVB recordings is that because the signal is so much cleaner than an analog one the shows take up far l,ess space
[01:26:00] Flimzy: Remote transcoding is not as easy as the UI would have you believe...
[01:27:00] Flimzy: it's all set up as it "should be", but mythtranscode always complains that it can't transcode remote files
[01:27:00] Flimzy: GreyFoxx: I hadn't thought of that.
[01:27:00] GreyFoxx: for instance a 1 hour recording from my 250's take about 2G, but a 1 hour 50 minute recording from my dvb card takes only 1.7G
[01:27:00] Flimzy: Altho my analog channels are _still_ broadcast in analog, even tho the receiver is digital capable
[01:27:00] GreyFoxx: The source is so much cleaner they can transmit with a lower bitrate and still have a good looking image
[01:28:00] simon_c_home: Hi All. Is there any way to change the default group view on teh front end ? I'd like my "gouplist to be sorted as goups" every time I start the front end.

[04:24:00] fryfrog: and they didn't get a liscense for that
[04:25:00] Flimzy: I don't care about licenses
[04:25:00] Flimzy: I care about technical ability to do it :)
[04:25:00] fryfrog: yes, well your devices do :)
[04:25:00] Flimzy: well if/when someone cracks 5C, they won't care any more
[04:25:00] Flimzy: hehe
[04:25:00] Garf`: anyone wanna help with a rf remote and rf usb receiver + lirc (an ati remote, not sure which one...)
[04:25:00] Flimzy: Before I care about 5C, tho...
[04:26:00] Flimzy: I just wanna get dang standard firewire stuff to work
[04:26:00] fryfrog: i tried firewire

[04:27:00] fryfrog: all the rest were dead
[04:27:00] Flimzy: fryfrog: what sort of device were you using?
[04:27:00] fryfrog: communistcast's motorolo DVR
[04:27:00] fryfrog: 6400 something?
[04:27:00] Flimzy: that's what I'm using
[04:27:00] Flimzy: 6412
[04:27:00] Flimzy: how'd you get it to work at all?
[04:28:00] fryfrog: it'd have been awsome since it has two tuners and two firewire ports
[04:28:00] fryfrog: what distro?
[04:28:00] Flimzy: Debian
[04:28:00] Flimzy: I think that's probably the only way I'm going to get any digital channels w/ mythtv
[04:28:00] fryfrog: do you have all the proper libs installed?
[04:28:00] fryfrog: does "plugreport" show the device?
[04:28:00] Flimzy: yeah, as far as I know
[04:28:00] Flimzy: I can see the device in gscanbus

[04:29:00] Flimzy: I'm unfamiliar with plugreport
[04:30:00] fryfrog: its text driven
[04:30:00] Flimzy: and it's not on my system

[04:33:00] fryfrog: no, gentoo :(
[04:33:00] Flimzy: I haven't had any success finding libiec61883 for Debian... and when I tried to compile it myself, it complained that it needed a version of libavc1394 that didn't seem to exist anywhere on google
[04:33:00] fryfrog: if gscan sees it, i think thats what matters
[04:33:00] fryfrog: oh?
[04:33:00] fryfrog: you have the raw thing?
[04:33:00] Flimzy: Yeah
[04:33:00] fryfrog: shoot, lemme see the names of these libs one sec

[04:33:00] fryfrog: kk
[04:33:00] Flimzy: and libraw1394
[04:34:00] fryfrog: have you compiled the "6200ch" program?
[04:34:00] fryfrog: in contrib?
[04:34:00] fryfrog: myth's contrib that is
[04:34:00] Flimzy: okay, libiec61883's ./configure script complains that it needs libraw1394 version 1.2.0... But best I can tell, version 0.10.0 (which seems to be aka 1.1.0) is the newest
[04:34:00] Flimzy: uh
[04:34:00] Flimzy: let me see if I can find it
[04:34:00] fryfrog: thats what i started with, it lets you change channels over firewire
[04:35:00] fryfrog: it at least gives you proof that *that* part works
[04:35:00] fryfrog: i had to slightly modify the code though i think
[04:35:00] fryfrog: because it didn't quite recognize my box
[04:35:00] fryfrog: i *think* i just made it so the "default" was to go ahead and try instead of erroring out saying it didn't recognize the box

[04:36:00] Flimzy: what version of myth were you using?
[04:36:00] fryfrog: supposidly, myth supports firewire channel changes *INTERNALLY*, but i think its for the 6200 not 6400 series
[04:36:00] fryfrog: svn
[04:36:00] fryfrog: but i think that script is in the .0.18 or older versions
[04:36:00] fryfrog: when ever firewire was added
[04:36:00] Flimzy: I think the 6400 appears as a 6200... but I'm not certian of that
[04:36:00] Flimzy: (I base this on the fact that the 6412 is a 2-tuner version of the 6208... which I'm assuming is compatilbe with a 6200)
[04:37:00] fryfrog: Flimzy: yes, they are quite "similar"
[04:37:00] Flimzy: anyway, I'm not finding the 6200ch program just yet
[04:37:00] fryfrog: but i think myth (and i *know* the 6200ch script) do not realize they are the same
[04:37:00] fryfrog: its in the contrib dir of the source, i didn't get it when i installed via my package system
[04:37:00] fryfrog: who is your cable service?
[04:37:00] Flimzy: Cox
[04:38:00] Flimzy: d/ling the myth source right now
[04:38:00] fryfrog: i'm gonna wager $1 that they 5C all their digital channels
[04:38:00] fryfrog: and probably a majority of their HDTV chans
[04:38:00] Flimzy: Hmm
[04:38:00] Flimzy: Yaknow...
[04:38:00] Flimzy: well
[04:38:00] fryfrog: only my 2–81 (analog) and like 2 HDTV chans were not-5c
[04:38:00] Flimzy: some fellow Cox employees have told me they can watch TV from WinXP
[04:38:00] Flimzy: altho they didn't specify if they were digital channels
[04:39:00] fryfrog: i wish you luck :)
[04:39:00] fryfrog: you *sure* there were not just taking svideo out?
[04:40:00] Flimzy: The last guy I talked to was talking about, I think, 'mounting' the DVR's internal HD as a share
[04:40:00] Flimzy: then streaming the live buffer
[04:40:00] fryfrog: ah
[04:40:00] Flimzy: which sounds a lot different than watching live TV
[04:40:00] fryfrog: not *quite* the same thing i think :/
[04:40:00] Flimzy: maybe that bypasses the 5C restriction, tho?
[04:40:00] fryfrog: thats what i'm guessing
[04:40:00] Flimzy: and maybe it's also completely incompatible with mythtv :P
[04:41:00] Flimzy: if I could get it to work with myth, that would be nice, tho... esp. if it bypasses the 5C thing
[04:41:00] fryfrog: i am 98% sure that myth is just listening to the stream output by the device
[04:41:00] Flimzy: Yeah
[04:41:00] Flimzy: Altho if I could build my own 'device'... that essentially 'cat's that live buffer to a fifo...
[04:41:00] Flimzy: I could probably get myth to use that fifo, right?
[04:41:00] fryfrog: and there didn't appear to be any legal mandate that its HDTV output even *had* to be non-5c
[04:41:00] fryfrog: no clue, :/
[04:41:00] Flimzy: Anyway, I'm jumping ahead of myself
[04:41:00] Flimzy: right now I just want to access the darn firewire thing
[04:41:00] Flimzy: hehe
[04:42:00] fryfrog: it was a pain in the ass and i gave up :)
[04:42:00] fryfrog: then i bought an air2pc card hoping to get QAM hdtv chans
[04:42:00] fryfrog: i'm about to give up on that
[04:43:00] Flimzy: Cox has told me they will NOT provision anything except Motorola digital receivers and "Cable Cards"
[04:43:00] Flimzy: I know nothing about cable cards, tho
[04:43:00] Flimzy: maybe the PCI cards appear as a cable card to the Cable co?
[04:43:00] fryfrog: what does that have to do with air2pc hdtv cards?
[04:43:00] fryfrog: oh
[04:43:00] Flimzy: I don't know...
[04:43:00] fryfrog: nothing like that
[04:43:00] fryfrog: most of the cable companies use "QAM" to broadcast signals
[04:43:00] fryfrog: they also don't encrypt their HDTV channels for the most part
[04:44:00] Flimzy: I asked if I could use a PCI card, and my answer was "If it looks like a cable card to us, we can provision it"
[04:44:00] fryfrog: (except hbo and such)
[04:44:00] fryfrog: i am pretty sure they are legally *required* to carry the local HDTV stations that they offer unencrypted
[04:44:00] fryfrog: they just broadcast it, like OTA
[04:45:00] Flimzy: probably
[04:45:00] fryfrog: not probably, thats how it works
[04:45:00] fryfrog: the two way "provisioning" aspect is for their own stuff
[04:45:00] fryfrog: like the digital and premium channels
[04:45:00] Flimzy: Could not find Motorola DCT-6200 on the 1394 bus.
[04:45:00] fryfrog: the encrypted content
[04:45:00] fryfrog: 6200ch?
[04:45:00] Flimzy: yeah
[04:45:00] fryfrog: yup, thats what i got
[04:45:00] Flimzy: how'd you 'fix' it?
[04:45:00] fryfrog: i had to edit the source and make it think it was a 6200
[04:46:00] Flimzy: There's a 6412 ID in there...
[04:46:00] Flimzy: lemme see if it matches mine
[04:46:00] Flimzy: nope, it doesn't
[04:46:00] Flimzy: guess I'll add that
[04:47:00] fryfrog: i think thats what i did :)
[04:48:00] Flimzy: ha
[04:48:00] Flimzy: it now says AV/C Command: 050 = Op1=0x00487C20 Op2=0x00487C25 Op3=0x00487C20
[04:48:00] Flimzy: I guess that's a good sign?
[04:49:00] Flimzy: so now what do I need to do yet to get myth to work with it?
[04:49:00] fryfrog: did it actually cahnge the channel?
[04:50:00] Flimzy: I'll hafta plug something into it to see
[04:50:00] Flimzy: one moment
[04:51:00] Flimzy: Yes... it did!
[04:51:00] Flimzy: I suppose if nothing else, I could capture the analog output, couldn't I?
[04:51:00] Flimzy: I wouldn't get digital quality
[04:51:00] Flimzy: but at least I'd get all the channels
[04:52:00] Flimzy: in Myth setup, how do I know what port and node to use?

[05:51:00] Skif: ryushin: I have a video card, a wireless NIC, and a PVR-500
[05:51:00] Skif: so I guess so, given that a 500 is 2x150
[05:51:00] Ryushin: I have a pvr-350, but I guess it should mostly be the same.
[05:51:00] Skif: I think so; isn't the 350's main difference that it has a hardware decoder?
[05:52:00] Ryushin: When you modprobe the card in, does it load the firmware?

[05:56:00] Skif: s/.../?/
[05:56:00] Ryushin: Well, not entirely. If you get all the devices in /dev that are needed with the correct permissions of another user.
[05:57:00] Ryushin: But to trouble shoot, it will be best to get it working as root, and then as another user.
[05:57:00] Ryushin: Yea, but the mythbackend starts as root doesn't it.
[05:57:00] Skif: Happily, ubuntu's myth packages set that up just fine already.
[05:57:00] Ryushin: Are you able to tune the 2nd tuner using tune.pl?

[05:59:00] Skif: I've never used that before... is it shipped with ivtv or mythtv?

[06:05:00] Ryushin: What provider do you have for you cable?
[06:05:00] AppleBoy: cox

[06:06:00] Skif: Ryushin: ptune seemed to work okay, but I still don't get any data from video1
[06:06:00] Ryushin: How are you testing it? Are you cat /dev/video1 and then trying to play it?

[06:07:00] Skif: Only I get 0 bytes when reading from video1.
[06:08:00] AppleBoy: briand: do you use zap2it?
[06:09:00] Ryushin: And your using using hte ptune on /dev/video1?
[06:09:00] Skif: yes.
[06:10:00] Ryushin: Appleboy: I use zap2it. Don't have any problems at all. Is it just saying it doesn't connect for you.

[06:27:00] Skif: See lines 30 and 58
[06:28:00] Ryushin: I think you're going to have to set up your modprobe.d/ivtv for the second tuner. You will probably want to search the ivtv mailing lists for more information on it. Sorry, I have to be up real early and I'm going to have to crash now.
[06:28:00] Skif: It's okay.

[07:12:00] jroberts_235: I read the hauppauge 350 had a really nice TV-out
[07:12:00] ShockValue: that kameleon remote looks cool, but it kinda defeats my purpose since you cant feel all the buttons, so you have to look at it to work it.
[07:12:00] jroberts_235: and the 350 comes with a remote (not sure if it's worth a damn)
[07:13:00] ShockValue: jroberts_235: it controls mythtv ok, but it wont control anything else in your system
[07:13:00] jroberts_235: really. That sucks. Does it work through LIRC?

[07:13:00] ShockValue: jroberts_235: yeah
[07:14:00] ShockValue: jroberts_235: i use the reciever for that remote on my system, but have a universal remote running myth instead
[07:14:00] jroberts_235: Hmmm... sounds like a good universal would do both better.
[07:15:00] jroberts_235: what about using a Tivo remote.
[07:15:00] ShockValue: jroberts_235: yep... im just still searching for the perfect one :)
[07:15:00] jroberts_235: can Mythtv be trained to work with other remotes?
[07:16:00] ShockValue: yeah... you program lirc with your remote codes and give each button a name.. then you map myth's functions to the buttons you defined for lirc
[07:17:00] jroberts_235: so any remote I like could be made to work?
[07:18:00] ShockValue: im not sure about that.. it has to send the same kind of codes as the hauppauge one (whatever those are), but it is a fairly common kind of code
[07:19:00] jroberts_235: ok. Sounds good enough to move forward.
[07:19:00] jroberts_235: what is your setup?
[07:20:00] ShockValue: p4 2.4, 120g, hauppauge 250, 512mb,

[07:21:00] jroberts_235: do you rip dvd's with it?
[07:21:00] ShockValue: and a marantz sr8000 and NEC 50" hooked up to it
[07:21:00] ShockValue: no, 120g is just enough for TV mostly
[07:22:00] jroberts_235: does it work well for you?
[07:22:00] ShockValue: yeah, im quite happy with it.. the only time it malfunctions is when i try to screw with it to try out new stuff :)

[07:24:00] jroberts_235: I thought about gentoo. I just can't spend 8 hours installing...
[07:24:00] Flamie: jrtoberts: then take the prebuilt packages from the live-cd?
[07:24:00] jroberts_235: I use FC, but I think I'm going to use debian for the mythtv box.
[07:25:00] ShockValue: I did it because i use gentoo as my desktop, and its the only linux ive used.. so i figure it would be most comfortable for my myth box too

[08:37:00] akjohn: I have a degree in computer science and it's taken me a week to get it up and running
[08:37:00] MertleHaggis: i dont like the "BLOOIP" noice on tivo
[08:38:00] akjohn: and I still don't have everything working
[08:38:00] MertleHaggis: a whole week?
[08:38:00] fastDude: hm
[08:38:00] ShockValue: fastDude: but if you find the documentation confusing, then you'll be lost setting it up
[08:38:00] akjohn: well every night for a week
[08:38:00] fastDude: so how do I do it then?
[08:39:00] MertleHaggis: and you have a degree?
[08:39:00] akjohn: I have a degree
[08:39:00] MertleHaggis: WOW
[08:39:00] fastDude: my friend has a degree
[08:39:00] akjohn: most of the time was spent trying to get my ir blaster working though
[08:39:00] MertleHaggis: it must be veery confusing documentation.
[08:39:00] akjohn: the actual linux and mythtv install went pretty smooth...
[08:39:00] akjohn: I was just trying to get something working thats new and not many ppl have done it
[08:40:00] fastDude: well my friend (the student) said that I could do it, and to come here and it is easy
[08:40:00] fastDude: perhaps since you've set it up in the time span of a whole week, that you could help?
[08:40:00] MertleHaggis: yah my friend the (highschool droppout) said he got it up and running in 2 days.
[08:41:00] akjohn: I had it running in more or less 1 night
[08:41:00] akjohn: If I wasn't too cheap to buy a supported IR blaster for $15, that would have been the end of it
[08:41:00] akjohn: do you have digital cable or satellite?
[08:41:00] ShockValue: well maybe im just retarded, but it took me a few weeks (nights and weekends) to get it running the way I wanted and stable :)
[08:42:00] fastDude: I have a sound blaster card in my computer, that is similar to the ir blaster i believe in some respect
[08:42:00] MertleHaggis: what type of video card?
[08:43:00] akjohn: shockvalue, are you using an ir blaster at all?
[08:43:00] fastDude: my video card is on the soundblaster
[08:43:00] MertleHaggis: thats a nice one.
[08:43:00] akjohn: I have some old nvidia card with tv-out
[08:43:00] ShockValue: akjohn: not a blaster, got a cable that goes to my directv box via serial
[08:43:00] ShockValue: that took quite a bit of screwing around to get to work right ;)
[08:44:00] fastDude: hahahahahahaha
[08:44:00] MertleHaggis: i bet it did!
[08:45:00] fastDude: hmmm
[08:45:00] fastDude: so tell me of your adventures purchasing mythtv for my own experience
[08:46:00] ** ShockValue thinks fastDude is the dev of mythv, just drunk and probing for info anonymously **
[08:46:00] MertleHaggis: well, i watched my friend set up his mythtv
[08:46:00] MertleHaggis: he had a lot of problems with the technical support team
[08:47:00] fastDude: ?
[08:47:00] MertleHaggis: yah.
[08:47:00] fastDude: team?
[08:47:00] fastDude: how many teams?
[08:47:00] MertleHaggis: well so to speak.
[08:47:00] MertleHaggis: i think it was two rival teams.

[08:51:00] fastDude: yes we have rugby too
[08:51:00] fastDude: it is played by the women, and the elderly
[08:51:00] MertleHaggis: fat women, and your old folk are without teeth.
[08:52:00] MertleHaggis: but if i may continue.

[08:55:00] Flamie: ShockValue: just to tell you you're not the worst, I took ~4 weeks to set it up and get the darn thing work :)

[08:56:00] Flamie: i not, I took 3 months

[08:56:00] ShockValue: im still searching for a good remote control

[08:57:00] akjohn: anyone know anything about external change channel command?
[08:58:00] ShockValue: im gonna go watch a myth-tv recorded program and pass out :) 12AM here
[08:58:00] Flamie: akjohn, hang on a moment
[09:00:00] Flamie: akjohn: "There isn't a good way to work "natively" with digital cable. The least unattractive option is to use a set-top box for decryption and feed the video stream to a capture card. At this point, though, the only capture cards you can buy are standard definition. You'll also need to use an IR blaster to send channel changing commands to the set-top box." quoted from: http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2005/06/22/myt
[09:00:00] Flamie: laga: a leadtek tvcard?
[09:00:00] akjohn: flamie: yeah, I have a blaster, and therein lies my problem
[09:00:00] laga: Flamie: no, some el cheap bttv crap. what, that's almost the same...
[09:01:00] akjohn: flamie: I can send commands via the blaster to the cable box with a shell script, but when I tell myth to use that script as an external change channel command, it doesn't
[09:01:00] Flamie: wierd
[09:01:00] akjohn: flamie: it acts like I didn't tell it a change channel command at all and procedes to change the tuner channel on my pvr card
[09:02:00] Flamie: well, breakfast it was

[09:02:00] akjohn: it's slow as hell for me :(
[09:03:00] akjohn: thats my biggest gripe, 5 seconds to change a channel

[09:33:00] SlicerDicer-: anybody have any ideas what would cause mythfrontend to all the sudden decide to throw a black border around everything?
[09:33:00] SlicerDicer-: When I play recordings they are in a box so to speak
[09:34:00] SlicerDicer-: its kinda annoying please help
[09:36:00] Flamie: SlicerDicer-: make sure you've set the correct display size on your screen/tv in X configuration
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: well the odd part is...
[09:36:00] Flamie: there should be a button to switch aspect ratio in myth as well,"m" I think
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: I look at say for instance Lost....
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: the little preview window thing
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: it shows it filling the preview window
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: but for Crimson Tide it is in a box?
[09:36:00] SlicerDicer-: is that the recording screwing up?
[09:37:00] SlicerDicer-: live tv is in a box too
[09:37:00] Flamie: could be 2 problem as far as I can understand:
[09:37:00] Flamie: 1. your myth do not know what displaysize your have
[09:38:00] Flamie: 2. the show was sent with borders to accomodate for widescreen on 4:3 TV's or vice versa
[09:38:00] SlicerDicer-: let me check all my frontends
[09:38:00] SlicerDicer-: I have many
[09:38:00] Flamie: easiest to check is just to find the displaysize line in your xorg.conf and make sure it's set to values that corresponds to your screen/tv
[09:39:00] SlicerDicer: well shit I just killed SlicerDicer-
[09:41:00] SlicerDicer: well I just recently changed my aspect ratio in myth
[09:41:00] SlicerDicer: from 480x480 to 720x480
[09:41:00] SlicerDicer: but Lost was recorded with that new aspect ratio without issue
[09:42:00] SlicerDicer: Flamie: some videos play at proper rate some dont but any "new" recordings have gone absolutly stupid
[09:42:00] SlicerDicer: since lost was recorded anyway

[09:42:00] SlicerDicer- (n=Slicer@macceketh.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[09:42:00] Flamie: it's how myth is syupposed to display it
[09:43:00] Flamie: I for example have a 16:9 TV, and a 4:3 resolution for my display (1024x768 on my tv-out)
[09:43:00] SlicerDicer-: correct
[09:43:00] SlicerDicer-: btw my main box is back hehe
[09:43:00] SlicerDicer-: if I press "w" while watching tv it does nothing
[09:43:00] SlicerDicer-: I try to set the aspect to fill
[09:43:00] Flamie: and by setting displaysize to a 16:9 ratio it displays movies in the correct aspect ratios
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: If I set it to 4:3 it does nothing
[09:44:00] Flamie: oki, a few questions:
[09:44:00] Flamie: are you using tv-out?
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: well it dont really matter if I use that or not
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: I mean this computer is a frontend
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: along with the one setting next to me
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: along with my mac and 2 tvs :)
[09:44:00] Flamie: oki, are the screen you're displaying it on a 4:3 screen or a 16:9?
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: they all do the same thing
[09:44:00] SlicerDicer-: its a mix
[09:45:00] SlicerDicer-: one is a apple cinema display but that should not matter
[09:45:00] SlicerDicer-: it dont do it properly either
[09:45:00] Flamie: hmm..
[09:46:00] SlicerDicer-: its weird
[09:46:00] SlicerDicer-: do some channels do that?
[09:46:00] Flamie: well, either way it _should_ work as long as you're in recording in the same resolution / aspect as you're tv-in gives you and then displays it on frontends that _do know_ what displaysizes their screens are using
[09:47:00] SlicerDicer-: make it so its in a box
[09:47:00] Flamie: some channels add black border to top & bottom to fit widescreen-content in 4:3 screens
[09:47:00] SlicerDicer-: its on all 4 sides
[09:47:00] SlicerDicer-: not letterbox hehe
[09:47:00] Flamie: then that 4:3 video stream displayed on a 16:9 tv will get black borders on left & right to fit the 4:3 stream
[09:47:00] Flamie: thus borders on all 4 sides
[09:47:00] SlicerDicer-: hmm
[09:48:00] SlicerDicer-: maybe I was recording the hdtv channel?
[09:48:00] SlicerDicer-: but pvr350 cant pick that up can it?
[09:48:00] Flamie: I think it can't
[09:48:00] SlicerDicer-: I am about
[09:48:00] SlicerDicer-: to find out
[09:48:00] SlicerDicer-: channel 533 is what I recorded
[09:49:00] SlicerDicer-: blah
[09:49:00] SlicerDicer-: 533 is messed up
[09:49:00] SlicerDicer-: starz but starzw is not :/
[09:51:00] SlicerDicer-: ohh well its just some channels

[13:03:00] Juski: makes a very nice frontend.. I can go from powered down to watching recordings in 30 seconds

[13:03:00] Oliver-BeograD: hello
[13:03:00] Juski: CanadaBoy – a long boot time is a big price to pay for having the same GUI ;)
[13:03:00] rsdvd: Juski....which paper did you see the advert in?
[13:03:00] Oliver-BeograD: briand
[13:03:00] Juski: The Times... but they're bound to have ads in all the tabloids today
[13:04:00] CanadaBoy: too bad no ones made gui mods to xbmc
[13:04:00] Juski: it's easy enough to do, CanadaBoy
[13:04:00] Juski: just xml files
[13:04:00] Oliver-BeograD: could somebody explane me somethign ?
[13:04:00] Juski: I think it'd be nice if they did it the other way round – I prefer XBMC's GUI lol
[13:04:00] CanadaBoy: lol
[13:05:00] Juski: especially Project Mayhem 3... phwoar
[13:05:00] Oliver-BeograD: god damn
[13:05:00] rsdvd: Have any of you every used the Hauppague MediaMVP as a frontend?
[13:05:00] Oliver-BeograD: people
[13:05:00] CanadaBoy: awk i still need to decide on a frontend
[13:05:00] Juski: but the mythtv GUI is under massive amounts of reconstruction right now which will open the door for a lot more eye candy
[13:06:00] Juski: Oliver... WHAT?
[13:06:00] Juski: just ask the question man
[13:06:00] CanadaBoy: a quick boot time would be sweet ...
[13:06:00] laga: Juski: the transition to libmythui will happen *after* the 0.19 release, according to trac
[13:07:00] CanadaBoy: i think i'll put it in a shuttle box mabey
[13:07:00] Oliver-BeograD: look this error which I get ALL THE TIME , after all configuration done, allways same error :
[13:07:00] Juski: laga: hiya! Well it was never gonna happen overnight was it... there's a lot of work to do there

[13:09:00] Oliver-BeograD: yes

[13:10:00] Juski: might not even be a MYSQL error.. could be something to do with QT
[13:11:00] Juski: CanadaBoy.. be careful of them shuttle barebones.. some aren't very quiet
[13:12:00] Oliver-BeograD: juski , but what should I do
[13:12:00] Juski: rsdvd.. frontend capability of the MVP is limited right now... there's only so much its hardware can do (such as it can only decode MPEG1 & MPEG2)
[13:13:00] Juski: well, some more information would help... such as what versions of packages you're running.. which Mysql & which QT etc
[13:13:00] rsdvd:
[13:14:00] Juski: watch recordings, and live tv... it probably can, but don't pay £50 for it.. it sporadically appears for around £30 or less, rsdvd
[13:15:00] rsdvd: ok! any ideas wher e I can get it that cheap?
[13:15:00] Skaface: hello (if i'm allowed to say that in here)
[13:15:00] Juski: I've seen it at www.scan.co.uk that cheap, and also (eek) at PC World
[13:15:00] Juski: good grief.. what kind of image does this channel have where folks are afraid to say 'hello'? lol

[13:16:00] Juski: Oliver-BeograD: what I mean is... have you installed stable packages as opposed to 'bleeding' edge ones?
[13:17:00] Juski: rsdvd – expect the price to drop when the wireless version comes out ;)
[13:18:00] Oliver-BeograD: Juski : I installed packages from my Debian 3.1r0a Sarge Stable distro
[13:19:00] rsdvd: Juski ....... is that liekly to be soon?
[13:19:00] Juski: rsdvd... possibly
[13:20:00] Juski: getting one working with mythtv can be a bit of a job though... from what I've read of the docs it looks quite involved, rsdvd
[13:21:00] rsdvd: :-( not good! I have had a world of pain getting the backend to work! I seemed to be cursed when it came to myth installs
[13:21:00] Juski: Oliver-BeograD: talk us through the error... you start mythtv-setup and get the error right away or what?
[13:22:00] Juski: rsdvd... sorry to say this but getting mythtv working really isn't that hard. One thing I'll say is that knoppmyth isn't the magic bullet a lot of people assume it is ;)
[13:22:00] Oliver-BeograD: Juski , I start mythtv-setup , and some windows opens in full screan mode , and I set password , user name , database etc. than I ckick NEXT and i get some screen than I click finish, and MYTHTV exit eith that error
[13:23:00] rsdvd: i used FC4 and the problems were not myth related.....it was getting my Nova-T DVB to play nicely with the ivtv drivers (for my PVR-150)........in the end Igave up and I am going to have 2 backends
[13:24:00] Juski: rsdvd.. the Nova-T should want nothing to do with ivtv... there are plenty of people with mixed capture cards like that
[13:25:00] rsdvd: so I keep being told......but when you install the Ivtv drivers they killed some of the kernel modules that the DVb was using.......not sure how to get ythem both working without intefering with each otheres modules
[13:25:00] Juski: Oliver-BeograD: I very much suspect there's a package incompatability issue going on there.. maybe the version of QT you have doesn't like talking to the version of MYSQL you have...
[13:26:00] Juski: rsdvd.. that would have been the I2C kernel module(s).. I think I've read something about making them more independent
[13:26:00] rsdvd: also other modules.....they both use tveeprom.....but differnt versions
[13:27:00] Oliver-BeograD: Juski , but how to find out whic version is compatible ?
[13:28:00] Juski: Oliver-BeograD: I don't know, but you could try rolling them back to previous versions & see what happens
[13:28:00] Oliver-BeograD: Ok, I will try, THANKS

[14:19:00] Eire: i'll try that then thanks
[14:19:00] PaulWay: I've just looked at the PHP file in question, and that basically triggers an error if the PHP code tries to load all the program data with an empty Channels array, for what its worth.
[14:19:00] PaulWay: Have you any channels?

[14:21:00] PaulWay: Hmmmm.
[14:23:00] PaulWay: My original thought was that they way to set that up would be to have each channel programmed in and getting program info, and then use an IR blaster to change the channels on the sky digital box.
[14:23:00] PaulWay: Where are you?
[14:23:00] Eire: ireland
[14:23:00] PaulWay: But then I realised that maybe MythTV doesn't handle having a device that it can't physically change the channels on.
[14:23:00] PaulWay: How do you cope with multiple channels at the moment?
[14:24:00] Eire: i'm just setting it up so myth is not doing anything, except sitting pretty of course
[14:24:00] dev-: i really need to set that up with my digital cable box. just to say ive done it
[14:24:00] dev-: people ask alot of questions about it, supposedly its easy
[14:24:00] GreyFoxx: PaulWay: What you do is configure myt to call an external app/script which somehow changes the channel.
[14:25:00] PaulWay: *shrugs* I've got two DVB cards, so MythTV does all the switching from there.
[14:25:00] GreyFoxx: Often through an IR blaster which sends the IR signals to the device
[14:25:00] PaulWay: Aaaaaah, GreyFoxx, clever.
[14:25:00] PaulWay: I've seen stuff on IR blasters but never had to really think about it.
[14:26:00] PaulWay: OTOH, if I could get my IR remote controls to work then it'd be even better.
[14:26:00] GreyFoxx: I put one together once with $10 of parts from rdio shack
[14:26:00] PaulWay: I knew they weren't difficult.
[14:26:00] PaulWay: Eire, sorry, I should have guessed where you were from :-)

[15:05:00] jhoke: Paul, yep.. which is good... learning is a good sign of life :-D
[15:06:00] PaulWay: True. I just re-learned C and PVM, and it's getting much easier...

[15:33:00] Oliver-BeograD: ok
[15:35:00] Juski: FunkyELF – wouldn't it be better to create a link to the correct timezone instead?
[15:35:00] GreyFoxx: FunkyELF: I don't think you can with the date command. It will certainly output it, but I don't think you can set it. If you try it just sets the time to what it WOULD be in that timezone but the timezone itself wont change

[17:37:00] Chutt: stop typing in all caps
[17:37:00] Oliver_Beograd: Some guy tald me that MYTHTV can capture video
[17:37:00] Rince: Oliver_Beograd: it can, if you configure a channel where it can "watch" and capture it
[17:38:00] Rince: or you define one of your entries of the tv-card for the connection
[17:38:00] Oliver_Beograd: You mean TV chanal ?
[17:38:00] Rince: yes, Either tv channel or maybe the scart entry of your card
[17:39:00] Rince: (yes I did that already to make dvd copies of an old vhs program)
[17:39:00] Oliver_Beograd: OOOO, NICE, but I dont know how to configure that for God sake
[17:39:00] Chutt: more reading, less typing in all caps.
[17:39:00] Chutt: is what you need.
[17:39:00] Rince: channel? Like you configured your tv-channels – with mythsetup/channels
[17:40:00] Rince: and the other way: find out which entry of the tv-card you want to use for capturing, define it in mythsetup, use it.

I'm having multiple problems, but I think the root of them is getting ivtv modules loaded correctly. lspci sees the card. [19:35:00] briand: ...just delete the corresponding records from the table(s) in the mythconverg database
[19:35:00] stevenm: briand, so then what>
[19:35:00] stevenm: Oh
[19:35:00] stevenm: 'recorded' ?
[19:36:00] briand: hmm... well
[19:36:00] briand: there's a table showing what you have on disk...
[19:36:00] briand: and another table showing what you have recorded...
[19:36:00] briand: (even if you've deleted the program, MythTV knows you've previously recorded it)
[19:37:00] briand: best bet would be to use the interface in MythTV to delete the records — then you can specify whether you want to "allow re-record" or not. What this choice does is either retain or delete the corresponding record(s) in the "recorded" table
[19:38:00] briand: if you schedule a recording and a record exists in the "recorded" table, then MythTV will not (by default) try to record it.
[19:38:00] briand: umd = university of maryland?

[19:44:00] Xoritor (n=xoritor@xorit.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[19:45:00] briand: to "properly" do it at the MySQL prompt, you'd have to delete all the related records in other tables as well, which would entail determining which tables were related, etc, etc... overall, much easier to just let the program do it.
[19:46:00] briand: with the file non-existant, MythTV may well produce a "warning" or "error" trying to delete... but should clear the database tables anyway. (I haven't looked at the code, so I don't know exactly how Myth will handle the situation)
[19:48:00] briand: hey.. i gotta run off to the store and stock up on munchies before the 3:30 kickoff(s)-- i'll be rooting for FSU to remain undefeated, and looking for an upset in Tuscaloosa (cheering for the 'Tide). Good luck with your database cleanup, steven

[21:46:00] Oliver_Beograd: But how to set up that ?
[21:47:00] Oliver_Beograd: Do I need to set up that if I only want to CAPTURE video from Composite1 ? From my TV card ?
[21:47:00] Rince: no
[21:47:00] stevenm (n=stevenm@infranelson.student.umd.edu) Quit ("Connection reset by beer")
[21:47:00] sphing: does anyone use mythvideo in conjunction with their cd/dvd drive
[21:48:00] laga: Oliver_Beograd: why would you want mythtv only for capturing from composite? or do you have a sat receiver hooked up there?
[21:48:00] sphing: i've used mythvideo before but if i remember it scans first then throws it into the db...
[21:48:00] Oliver_Beograd: laga , I have btt878 (tuner, composite, SVHS) but I just want to capture from composite
[21:52:00] GreyFoxx: What is connected to the composite input ?
[21:54:00] Oliver_Beograd: CamCorder or camera
[21:54:00] GreyFoxx: Ok, so it's not for capturing a scheduled event like a TV show
[21:55:00] Oliver_Beograd: not for sheduled
[21:55:00] GreyFoxx: then myth is liekly not the best solution. You could have to setup a fake video source, and put some fake program listsings data in the database
[21:56:00] GreyFoxx: Myth is not designed to functions like a vcr with no knowledge of what it is recording
[21:57:00] Oliver_Beograd: ooooo damn
[21:58:00] GreyFoxx: you could certainly do it
[21:58:00] GreyFoxx: but it might not be worth the effort. That's up to you
[21:58:00] Oliver_Beograd: I am searched hole planet for some program for capturing and watchit at the same time

[22:04:00] Dayhawk: are there any issues with SB live EMU10k1(oem) cards?

[22:40:00] purplefrog: yeah, I know SQL, but there are 4519 rows in that table. I wish there were an interface for managing it :)
[22:40:00] Beirdo: phpmyadmin
