[01:05:00] djperegrine: back
[01:05:00] djperegrine: sphing, what card do you have?
[01:06:00] Ryushin: I'm having audio problems. When it plays a hd signal, the sound is popping and cracking and it causes dropped frames. But sometimes, it just goes to a pure hiss and the framrate is perfect. I'm using xvmc and I have a lot of spare CPU so it's not cpu bound. I've tried both alsa and oss to no avail.

[01:19:00] nuonguy: ah
[01:19:00] Ryushin: I think the hiss is related to receiving a 1080i signal. I was watching football today that must of have 720p. My native tv's resolution is 720p. Any thoughts?
[01:19:00] nuonguy: Samething with wireless cards
[01:22:00] sphing: Ryushin: i dont have hd so i'm no help :(
[01:22:00] djperegrine: sphing are you looking up transcoding stuff?
[01:22:00] djperegrine: Its damn confusing
[01:22:00] Ryushin: I seem to be one of the very few here that does have HD. It's frustrating at times.
[01:22:00] Agrajag-: Ryushin: not really sure, but i seem to remember getting similar effects on some hd streams here, was related to ac3 audio issues. not sure if it's been fixed
[01:22:00] Ryushin: Hmm....
[01:23:00] guitar256: What's a good suggestion for bitrate for the low/high quality settings?!
[01:23:00] mchou: sphing: make your own :)

[01:24:00] guitar256: @mchou
[01:24:00] guitar256: @mchou
[01:24:00] Agrajag-: nah you gotta setup your channels for dvb stuff and then mplayer dvb://
[01:25:00] Ryushin: I should be able to do the same with xine right?
[01:25:00] mchou: guitar256: hat?
[01:25:00] mchou: what*
[01:29:00] guitar256: mchou: I was messing around with bitrate settings, and was wonderin what everyone else was using for 'low quality' & 'high quality'

[01:34:00] mchou: sphing: like what?
[01:35:00] sphing: like raid1 on the backend vs raid1 on a fileserver
[01:35:00] mchou: sphing: not me, sorry
[01:36:00] sphing: mchou: anyway back to your pci raid... linux drivers?
[01:36:00] mchou: sphing: what you talking about? the modded HW?
[01:37:00] sphing: yea
[01:37:00] mchou: the modded HW becomes a FastTrack TX2 controller (from Ultra). There are linux drivers for fasttrak in the kernel
[01:38:00] sphing: yea i'm reading the page...
[01:38:00] mchou: sphing: but seriously, if you doing raid 1 you not need crapping SW (fake HW) raid from anyone
[01:39:00] guitar256: Does anybody havea preferred method of flagging commercials.....i.e. is there one that works better than others???
[01:39:00] mchou: sphing: just use linux SW raid. you'd be much better off.
[01:39:00] mchou: crappy*
[01:40:00] sphing: mchou: wouldn't it be slower?
[01:40:00] mchou: sphing: lol, nope
[01:40:00] ** SpaceBass is thinking of building a myth box just to automatically download torrents of shows... **
[01:40:00] mchou: promise/mobo raid is SW raid
[01:40:00] ** sphing is very interested **
[01:40:00] SpaceBass: but I'd like to include a way to capture directv via a pic card... wondering if it can be done
[01:41:00] mchou: sphing: ie fake raid
[01:41:00] sphing: i want to speed up my channel changing
[01:41:00] sphing: i think a large part of that is hd writing
[01:41:00] mchou: sphing: lol, I dont think raid helps w/that
[01:42:00] mchou: no, that's more or less due to myth prebuffering
[01:42:00] mchou: or ivtv prebuffer, whatever.
[01:42:00] mchou: raid aint gonna help that crap.
[01:42:00] djperegrine: spacebass, check out torrentocracy
[01:42:00] djperegrine: I think thats whats its called
[01:43:00] djperegrine: it downloads torrents from RSS feeds
[01:43:00] sphing: ... mchou it will certainly help with the HD writing
[01:43:00] djperegrine: and is a mythtv plugin

[01:49:00] mchou: funkyelf: that's way too expensive
[01:49:00] SpaceBass: not trying to steal directv... i have 5 legit recievers... just want to add a PCI card as a 6th and PAY for it
[01:49:00] funkyelf: well how else am I supposed to recieve and transmit with only one serial port?
[01:49:00] mchou: funkyelf: try firewire? :)
[01:49:00] sphing: funkyelf: you could rig up a nice circuit
[01:49:00] funkyelf: like that isn't going to be just as expensive as usb
[01:50:00] mchou: funkyelf: what's wrong with one serial port anyways?

[01:50:00] mchou: and $15 or so at walmart

[02:20:00] djperegrine: like transcode to Divx
[02:21:00] Agrajag-: yeah with mythvideo
[02:21:00] sphing: one for receiving, one for transmitting, and one for clocking
[02:21:00] djperegrine: and delete the old .nuv file and have that be the main tvshow

[02:21:00] djperegrine: Do you get what I mean? automaticly transcode the .nuv files into divx files and have it play those instead of the .nuv files?
[02:22:00] sphing: so in theory you could have a read device AND a write device connected on the same serial port
[02:23:00] funkyelf: right...but there are no tutorials out there for that or schematics

[04:42:00] djperegrine: ok

[04:42:00] djperegrine: yea
[04:43:00] de-v: but i wonder, if you use commercialflagging on the fly then select commercialflag after transcode, if its smart or dumb enough to do that

[04:43:00] djperegrine: hrm
[04:44:00] de-v: if it did what was select, you'd have the original flagging on the fly, then it transcodes off the original to a seperate file, then commflags that if you have select commflag after transcoding set
[04:44:00] funkyelf: anyone know what the IR port on the back of a cable box might be used for? It looks like a mini-plug like something you'd plug headphones into

[04:46:00] PatrickDK: about 500–600 mhz for sdtv
[04:46:00] de-v: yeah it does, but my xp3200 with dual 250's can do both streams and both commflag on the fly
[04:46:00] de-v: no problemo

[04:46:00] djperegrine: I just recently set that
[04:47:00] johndo: funkyelf, I don't see what part refers to my cable company being required to re-issue me a digital cable box with firewire capabilities
[04:47:00] djperegrine: is that the option you were talking about?
[04:47:00] de-v: yeah thats slang for onthefly :P
[04:47:00] johndo: funkyelf, it appears to say that the cable company isn't allowed to rebroadcast content that contains commercials
[04:47:00] djperegrine: yea

[04:47:00] djperegrine: and I have a flag Commercial job set in the queue
[04:48:00] djperegrine: and the show I just recorded doesn't have any flags

[04:49:00] djperegrine: its at like 20 %
[04:49:00] de-v: thats why it has no commflags :P

[05:34:00] funkyelf: I am reading a posting here... http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5248 and This doesn't make sense to me...does it make sense to anyone else?..."To be fair. When I setup my Myth Backend I set it up to use the XBMC scipt as my front end and have not used the regular myth front end much."
[05:34:00] de-v: at least in mythweb you can
[05:34:00] PatrickDK: oh heh, I haven't seen that yet
[05:34:00] de-v: its probably in record settings in the interface
[05:35:00] de-v: i always use mythweb for setting up shows.. much faster than remote hehe
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: no, that is per recording
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: not per channel
[05:35:00] de-v: thats what i meant im sorry
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: if you set a new recording up
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: you have to remember what the offset is for that channel
[05:35:00] de-v: so for you, the entire channel is off?
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: I would like itto autoinsert it :)
[05:35:00] PatrickDK: ya

[05:37:00] PatrickDK: when the shows stop and start
[05:37:00] de-v: i wonder if you can set the delay in a recording group
[05:37:00] PatrickDK: so are most other cannels
[05:37:00] de-v: then just select the recording group for that channel

[10:05:00] eiggirC: Bhaal: I'd upgrade everything
[10:05:00] Bhaal: eiggirC: Ive upgraded the mythtv debian packages... Still no go
[10:06:00] jnc: Bhaal: you need mysql 4.1
[10:07:00] Bhaal: jnc... Well mysql-4.1.14 is what was installed by dist-upgrade...
[10:07:00] Bhaal: And its complaining
[10:07:00] jnc: oh
[10:07:00] jnc: you may have to purge everything mysql related
[10:07:00] jnc: that's not a REAL answer i know
[10:07:00] jnc: but that's what i did and it worked
[10:07:00] Bhaal: No, coz then I lose all my myth settings...
[10:08:00] metusine: heh
[10:08:00] Bhaal: Maybe I copy mythconverg out...
[10:08:00] metusine: sometimes if somethings asseds

[10:09:00] metusine: and if it works afterwards
[10:09:00] jnc: i don't know what to do about debian and mythtv
[10:09:00] jnc: it seems to suck a whole lot
[10:09:00] metusine: you know it was an issue with your config
[10:09:00] metusine: what's debian got to do with it?
[10:09:00] jnc: well, the debian packages that are out there for mythtv do not include mythgame
[10:09:00] jnc: i had to hack that in there manually
[10:10:00] metusine: ahhhh
[10:10:00] metusine: you need to emerge gentoo
[10:10:00] jnc: so i have my choice between mythtv 0.19 svn including mythgame and mythtv livetv only works once, or mythtv 0.18 that lacks mythgame and mythtv works more reliably
[10:10:00] metusine: simplifies things enormously :p
[10:10:00] jnc: eh
[10:10:00] jnc: that may be.
[10:11:00] jnc: gentoo isn't a realistic option for the long term goal of making something salable
[10:11:00] jnc: short term goal is to get the stuff working
[10:11:00] metusine: salable?
[10:11:00] metusine: you gonna set up a business with myth?
[10:12:00] jnc: if an existing client requests a media center box, i'd sure like to be able to provide one
[10:12:00] metusine: fair enough
[10:12:00] jnc: some clients have the money to throw around for a media box
[10:12:00] jnc: it would be nice to have the capability to pull off a media box and sell it for several thousand dollars
[10:12:00] metusine: the trouble is doing it on a cost comparable basis with a pre made set top box
[10:13:00] metusine: i did see talk of one around that price
[10:13:00] metusine: can't remember the exact specs
[10:13:00] sandos: if you provide something that set tops doesnt, you can always charge more for it

[10:23:00] metusine: or as stable
[10:25:00] jnc: possibly
[10:25:00] jnc: i was hoping to get it rolling on a debian box

[10:28:00] jnc: right
[10:28:00] metusine: all off the pvrs are real expensive in nz
[10:29:00] metusine: if your using it with lirc

[10:29:00] metusine: it's independant of lirc

[23:15:00] pmowry: Well no, since windows would load it straight from the source.
[23:16:00] foobum: yeah.. i'm pretty sure i've tried different versions of the firmware on linux too :(
[23:17:00] pmowry: For me it was always an all or nothing, excecpt for issues with the ivtv-fb. but decoding always worked, overlays would cause trouble.
[23:18:00] dcstimm: I have mythtv running on a dual xeon 3ghz system with 1gb of 3200 ram, a 5600 geforcefx 256mb card, and 10,000k rpm scsi drives, with a Haupaugge 250 card and I am getting sluggish behavior out of mythtv
[23:18:00] foobum: it'd be interested to know if anyone has one working on an nforce4 board
[23:18:00] foobum: i can't see what else it could be
[23:19:00] dcstimm: like if its paused for a while lets say 20 min and I fast forward it after resuming it will pause for like 20 seconds
[23:19:00] foobum: and don't really understand how the chipset could fuck up the decoder (and only the decoder)
[23:19:00] dcstimm: very annoying, cheap cable company pvrs dont even do this
[23:19:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: Is this with recordings, or LiveTV?
[23:19:00] dcstimm: foobum, nforce4 chipsets are kinda flacky
[23:19:00] jonK (i=js2638@xmission.xmission.com) Quit ("BitchX-1.1-final -- just do it.")
[23:20:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, livetv
[23:20:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: Which filesystem are you using for your cache partition?
[23:20:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, i am using ext3
[23:20:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: Try ext2.
[23:20:00] dcstimm: /dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw,noatime)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: none on /dev type devfs (rw)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: none on /proc type proc (rw)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: none on /sys type sysfs (rw)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
[23:20:00] Krazylegz: I had similar issues.
[23:20:00] dcstimm: /dev/hda2 on /mnt/store type ext3 (rw,noatime)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
[23:20:00] dcstimm: sorry
[23:21:00] Beirdo: dcstimm: nforce4 flaky?! bullshit
[23:21:00] dcstimm: /mnt/store is the one I record to
[23:21:00] dcstimm: Beirdo, in linux
[23:21:00] Beirdo: bah
[23:21:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: You record to the same partition as you use as your LiveTV cache?
[23:21:00] dcstimm: binary drivers are flacky
[23:21:00] foobum: using a nforce4 + pvr card by any change beirdo?
[23:21:00] Beirdo: I have nforce3, rock solid. know several with nforce4, solid
[23:21:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, I guess
[23:21:00] foobum: using the mainline drivers for everything
[23:21:00] foobum: (cept ivtv obviously)
[23:22:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: That might be a problem. Everything cleared up for me once I switched to ext2.
[23:22:00] dcstimm: not a big fan of amd + nforce
[23:22:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, Krazy! ;)
[23:22:00] Beirdo: dcstimm: rock solid
[23:22:00] Beirdo: :)
[23:22:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, is it possible to turn off ext3 with out reformating the partition?
[23:23:00] dcstimm: Beirdo, well I know they can be rock solid but I hear alot more issues with amd + nforce than intel with intel
[23:24:00] dcstimm: its like idiots that use intel with sis or intel with via, what are they thinking!?
[23:24:00] Ryushin: dcstimm: Mount it ext2.
[23:24:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, yeah I just thought of that
[23:24:00] Ryushin: Or do you want to convert it to a different file system such as reiser.
[23:25:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, I dont feel like doing that at this moment
[23:25:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, to much stuff on that partition
[23:25:00] Ryushin: Is the journalling slowing things down to much?
[23:25:00] dcstimm: Seems like it
[23:26:00] Ryushin: Are you doing HD?
[23:26:00] dcstimm: no
[23:26:00] dcstimm: 250 card
[23:26:00] Ryushin: I have a 350 card, and it's just ticking over when it writes to the drive.
[23:26:00] Ryushin: My HD-3000 card makes it work a bit harder.
[23:26:00] dcstimm: heh
[23:27:00] Ryushin: Have you used hdparm to optimize your drive yet?
[23:27:00] dcstimm: if I had a crappy system I wouldnt be worring but I have a dual xeon 3ghz machine. maxed out with goodies, and its still slow
[23:27:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, of course
[23:27:00] wunderkin (i=kev@12-219-162-233.client.mchsi.com) Quit (Nick collision from services.)
[23:27:00] Ryushin: How big of a drive are you using and whole old of a IDE chipset is it?
[23:27:00] wunderkin (i=kev@12-219-162-233.client.mchsi.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:27:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, i like hdparm -d1 -c1 -X69 /dev/hda
[23:28:00] Ryushin: Should be fine.
[23:28:00] dcstimm: ich4 chipset
[23:28:00] dcstimm: not old
[23:28:00] Ryushin: How many goodies?
[23:28:00] dcstimm: this drive is a raptor wd drive
[23:29:00] dcstimm: I have other scsi drives I have tried and its the same speed
[23:29:00] Ryushin: One pvr-250 card? Anything else that is disk intensive?
[23:29:00] dcstimm: nooe
[23:29:00] dcstimm: nope
[23:29:00] dcstimm: just one card
[23:29:00] dcstimm: I own two, but for trouble shooting I only have one installed
[23:29:00] Ryushin: Then you should have absolutely no problems whatsoever.
[23:29:00] Ryushin: What part is slow?
[23:30:00] dcstimm: well if livetv is paused for like 20 min, then I resume it, and try to fast forward it seems like it freezes for like 20 seconds and then it will be back to normal
[23:30:00] Ryushin: Which ivtv drivers are you using?
[23:31:00] dcstimm: let me check
[23:32:00] dcstimm: 0.2.0_rc3
[23:32:00] dcstimm: I dont really want to mess with ivtv again
[23:32:00] Ryushin: Well, you might want to try 0.3.9 which just came out a couple of days ago.
[23:32:00] dcstimm: heh
[23:33:00] dcstimm: seems like a big number gap, I would perfer an gentoo ebuild if possible
[23:33:00] Ryushin: 0.2.0 was the stable version, but it's pretty old now.
[23:33:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, understandable
[23:33:00] dcstimm: it works well though
[23:33:00] Ryushin: 0.3.9 is the development version.
[23:33:00] dcstimm: except for my issue
[23:33:00] Ryushin: Except for your problem.  :)
[23:33:00] Ryushin: You can always go back. Can't hurt to try it. It'll only take about 1 minute to compile it on your system.  :)
[23:34:00] dcstimm: anyone know if there is an ebuild for it?
[23:34:00] Ryushin: Not I, I'm a debian user.  :)
[23:34:00] dcstimm: its much cleaner than hand compiling
[23:34:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, pussy;)
[23:34:00] dcstimm: heh
[23:34:00] dcstimm: j/k
[23:34:00] Ryushin: Does gentoo have checkinstall?
[23:34:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, ubuntu?
[23:34:00] Ryushin: sid.
[23:35:00] dcstimm: yeah kinda
[23:35:00] pmowry: The release notes for a recent relase (0.3.8?) said it removed some i2c calls that would break mythtv until it was updated.
[23:35:00] Ryushin: At least with checkinstall, you can remove it simply.
[23:35:00] dcstimm: I can install a rpm checkinstall creates
[23:35:00] dcstimm: pmowry, thanks for the news
[23:36:00] Ryushin: I know, I read that too. but it works fine for me. But I'm also running myths svn.
[23:36:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, well check install creates an installable rpm or tgz file from the source
[23:36:00] beavis (n=beavis@p54A78FC2.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[23:36:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, i am using mythtv 0.18
[23:36:00] Ryushin: Yea.
[23:36:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: Not that I know of. However, I would create a seperate /cache partition, like I said.
[23:36:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, I am to scared to try svn, last time I tried it it fucked up my database
[23:37:00] Ryushin: Just do a ./configure (thought I don't think ivtv needs that), make, checkinstall -R (I use -D) make install and it builds the package for you.
[23:37:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, how do I do that?
[23:37:00] Ryushin: Who's the pussy now. LOL
[23:37:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, well when I have to clean my database by hand, that is not fun
[23:37:00] Ryushin: Do a mysql dump before you upgrade it.
[23:38:00] dcstimm: Ryushin, true
[23:38:00] otwin (n=Use@217.31.78.25) has left #mythtv-users
[23:38:00] Ryushin: Hell, I automated my system to do a sql dump every night and keeps 21 days worth, just in case.
[23:38:00] Krazylegz: dcstimm: If you've already partitioned all of your hard drive space, then you would have to adjust the partitions with something like FIPS.
[23:38:00] pmowry: Oh, I noticed svn gives PVR files an mpg extension now.
[23:38:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, well I will give it a try
[23:39:00] dcstimm: pmowry, it doesnt use nuv?
[23:39:00] knewt_ (n=jmb@home.pimb.org) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:39:00] dcstimm: pmowry, which is good because that nuv file is really just a mpg
[23:39:00] Krazylegz: No, svn now uses .mpg .
[23:39:00] dcstimm: cool
[23:39:00] pmowry: I updated to latest SVN this weekend. All recordings after that were .mpg with the filename only having the start time
[23:39:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, what is writing to the /cache partition?

[23:41:00] Krazylegz: Right.
[23:41:00] dcstimm: well it kinda has its own partition
[23:41:00] Krazylegz: Maybe you could also convert your / to ext2, but I wouldn't recommend that since you'd lose journaling.
[23:41:00] Krazylegz: It does?
[23:41:00] Krazylegz: Paste the output from mount -l into pastebin.
[23:41:00] dcstimm: Krazylegz, because nothing else is on that partition, no recordings or anything else
[23:43:00] Krazylegz: It didn't look like you had a partition for your ringbuffer before.
[23:44:00] dcstimm: i dont
[23:44:00] dcstimm: but even when there is nothing on that partition its still slow
