[00:00:00] Jimmmy: riddlebox, depends what its running as ?
[00:00:00] Jimmmy: root? nobody? mythuser ?
[00:01:00] riddlebox: mythtv is the name of the user
[00:01:00] Jimmmy: ok
[00:01:00] Jimmmy: do an ls -l on the dvdrom
[00:01:00] Jimmmy: there should be a special group
[00:01:00] Jimmmy: that you can add mythtv too
[00:01:00] Jimmmy: it will show something like root somegroup /dev/dvdrom0
[00:01:00] riddlebox: it is cdrom
[00:02:00] riddlebox: how do I add my user to that
[00:02:00] flatronf700B (~flatronf7@202.75.186.154) Quit (Client Quit)
[00:02:00] Jimmmy: open up /etc/group as root, and add mythtv to the end of the cdrom group entry
[00:02:00] Jimmmy: to look like this: cdrom:x:###:mythtv
[00:02:00] Jimmmy: where ### is whatever group ID number cdrom has
[00:03:00] Jimmmy: save that file, and try again – you may or may not have to restart mythbackend
[00:03:00] riddlebox: I have this line cdrom:*:24:mythtv,james
[00:04:00] Jimmmy: very good
[00:04:00] Jimmmy: does that work now ?
[00:04:00] riddlebox: does that line mean that it is in the group already?
[00:05:00] Jimmmy: yes, if that line already existed
[00:05:00] Jimmmy: in that case, check your mythbackend log
[00:05:00] Jimmmy: if you specified to keep one that is
[00:05:00] Jimmmy: should be /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log ?
[00:10:00] Jimmmy: try this: http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-19.html#ss19.3

[03:24:00] pce-matty: igg-man: in tv? press w and what happens?

[03:25:00] Igg-man: pce-matty: It seems to help, but it always defaults wrong
[03:25:00] Igg-man: 16:9 strech looks correct for 4:3 tv

[07:40:00] Jimmmy: GreyFoxx, backend configuration for one
[07:40:00] GreyFoxx: And what about cvs (now using svn, not cvs anymore) is hard to figure out ?
[07:40:00] Jimmmy: GreyFoxx, no interface for mythdvd is another
[07:41:00] GreyFoxx: jimmy: Like? Most of the backend config (if you mean adding hardware or videosources) are done in mythtv-setup
[07:41:00] Jimmmy: GreyFoxx, indeed, i have no monitor – i dont even want an X server
[07:41:00] Jimmmy: the backend config is all mysql – it would be a peice of cake to implement it in mythweb
[07:41:00] Jimmmy: im thinking of hacking my own up to do just that

[07:42:00] Jimmmy: i know this _now_ :P
[07:43:00] Jimmmy: it looks like freevo is more suited to what i want, but when i tried to set it up it failed misrebly
[07:43:00] GreyFoxx: You could always consider running an X server on your desktop for instance and then just export the app to your desktop display

[19:26:00] mtjs: hi, is it possible to stretch the livetv and playback ?
[19:26:00] mtjs: I have a wide screen projector, but therefore you have to stretch the screen verticaly to get rid of the black borders, without changing anything horisontally
[19:27:00] snL20: riddlebox: which one do you use ?
[19:27:00] mtjs: in mplayer i use -vm -x no -y no

[19:31:00] mtjs: the projector strechtes the image.

[19:31:00] mtjs: so I have to stretch it vertically
[19:31:00] lucacri: yes
[19:31:00] mtjs: with mplayer that is not a problem.

[19:33:00] mtjs: what type ?
[19:33:00] Chutt: it has multiple methods of changing the aspect ratio of the incoming source
[19:34:00] Chutt: not _just_ stretching it horizontally.
[19:34:00] mtjs: yes but all those in the menu are eather stupid or cut of borders left and/or right
[19:34:00] mtjs: Chutt: I know

[19:34:00] mtjs: but I need just stretching it vertically

[19:34:00] Chutt: or at least just do it on a source by source basis

[19:35:00] mtjs: THAT IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO

[19:37:00] Chutt: ah, you bought a shitty projector, then
[19:37:00] mtjs: Chutt: wich one do you have then ?
[19:37:00] Chutt: setup X properly (DisplaySize that indicates that it actually is widescreen)
[19:37:00] xris: mtjs: or you need to configure your X config so that it recognizes the projector doesn't have 4:3 pixels.

[21:45:00] riddlebox: I thought you meant while watching tv
[21:45:00] Russ: well, when irexec gets a POWER signal, it turns on power to the tv, then hits video 4 times so it switches to the mythtv box
[21:45:00] Russ: so that works for power off too

[21:49:00] GreyFoxx: computer depends on the type of capture card
[21:49:00] riddlebox: Russ:I have a one 4 all remote, but I need some sort of IR attached to the pc right?
[21:49:00] Discipulus: I suggest a PVR-150 for a capture/tuner card
[21:49:00] GreyFoxx: software encoding is MUCH more cpu entensive than hardware encoding which is basically 0
[21:49:00] riddlebox: I use a pvr500
[21:49:00] computerman: i have an old win tv one
[21:49:00] riddlebox: but the 150 I am sure is way easier to setup
[21:50:00] abarbaccia: riddlebox, same thing to setup
[21:50:00] Randall64: I had mythtv capturing to rtjpeg on a dual celeron/500.
[21:50:00] abarbaccia: one more line u gotta add
[21:50:00] Russ: riddlebox: I built a receiver and trasmitter with mostly stuff I found around the house
[21:50:00] Russ: I did need a CIR receiver from digikey
[21:50:00] computerman: how about a hauppauge from 1998
[21:51:00] Russ: its easier to get 5V from PS2 than from a regulator
[21:51:00] riddlebox: Russ: I would have to say you are handier than me
[21:52:00] GreyFoxx: computerman: Check out http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-3.html in the CPU Type anfd Speed section
[21:52:00] Russ: well, if you order a CIR receiver, then to make a receiver for mythtv, you need a serial port connector, a small resistor (maybe from a modem), chop the end off the mouse for a connection to 5V
[21:53:00] Russ: and then for the transmitter, the IR transmitter off an old remote, another small resistor, and a diode that will block reverse current that would kill your transmitter

[22:00:00] SlicerDicer-: well riddlebox have you run mythfronted with terminal?
[22:00:00] SlicerDicer-: see I am trying to transcode from this system over to my other mythtv system
[22:00:00] riddlebox: nope not yet, I guess I should to see where the problem lies huh :)
[22:00:00] SlicerDicer-: this is not got anything but a frontend on it and all the other stuff to run it but I want to make it so it shoots the transcode over the network :)
[22:01:00] SlicerDicer-: I have a absolutely craptastic dvd player on my mythtv box and this one is nice till I get a dvdburner for mythtv box
[22:01:00] SlicerDicer-: also this dvd player on this box has a 8mb cache it runs really slick
[22:01:00] riddlebox: I have a dvdburner on mine :)
[22:01:00] SlicerDicer-: riddlebox, I know the key lies in scsi emulation
[22:02:00] riddlebox: I am using knoppmyth and it seems to work well
[22:02:00] SlicerDicer-: cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
[22:02:00] SlicerDicer-: cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
[22:02:00] SlicerDicer-: I run gentoo riddlebox :)
[22:02:00] SlicerDicer-: and I got 4 frontends and 1 backend :)
[22:03:00] riddlebox: thats crazy I just typed mtd in my ssh terminal to that box and it is doing stuff
[22:03:00] SlicerDicer-: well yeh....
[22:03:00] SlicerDicer-: mtd -d makes it run as a dameon and mtd -n makes it check if its working
[22:03:00] riddlebox: I know it is running
[22:03:00] SlicerDicer-: as via mythtv documentation but the fact of the matter is that it does not say that it needs cdrecord
[22:03:00] SlicerDicer-: I would think it would list the dependencies.....
[22:04:00] SlicerDicer-: but then I got cdrecord and this is what it does
[22:04:00] SlicerDicer-: cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
[22:04:00] SlicerDicer-: cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
[22:04:00] NightBird: hey, does anyone know if knoppmyth comes with the software already installed to allow for handling of shared network drives?
[22:04:00] SlicerDicer-: no idea NightBird
[22:05:00] NightBird: k
[22:05:00] riddlebox: SlicerDicer:do you just go to the Import DVD section
[22:06:00] SlicerDicer-: well not atm
[22:06:00] SlicerDicer-: I am just trying to get cdrecord to work cause I know mtd uses
[22:07:00] riddlebox: how do you get mtd to import it thats what I need to know
[22:07:00] SlicerDicer-: when I run mythfrontend in the terminal it does not give me a output message so I am kinda SOL for using that to find the problem
[22:07:00] SlicerDicer-: exactly riddlebox
[22:07:00] SlicerDicer-: and thats what I have been talking about
[22:07:00] riddlebox: :)
[22:07:00] SlicerDicer-: is why the hell I cannot get cdrecord to see my cddrive and its something to do with scsi emulation
[22:08:00] riddlebox: SlicerDicer: can I msg you?
[22:08:00] SlicerDicer-: and there is nothing really around that I can find that will help me understand how to do that I tried the different things that were listed around via my friend google
[22:08:00] abarbaccia: SlicerDicer, dont use scsi emulation for that
[22:08:00] SlicerDicer-: it was useless to say the least on 90% of it
[22:08:00] SlicerDicer-: abarbaccia, thank you thats exactly the information i was looking for what is the best way to do it?
[22:08:00] abarbaccia: SlicerDicer, with a quick chagne to the source you can tell it to use ur ide drive
[22:09:00] SlicerDicer-: ok I am removing dvdrtools to start over :)
[22:09:00] abarbaccia: SlicerDicer, i did it before, but dont have the source anymore – you find the line where it tells it gives cdrecord the command to burn the cd, and you append device=/dev/hda to the end or whatever
[22:09:00] SlicerDicer-: abarbaccia, got the sourcefile/line handy?
[22:09:00] abarbaccia: SlicerDicer, sorry no
[22:09:00] SlicerDicer-: ok I will find it no worries
[22:09:00] abarbaccia: SlicerDicer, its not that hard – just search for cdrecord

[23:36:00] phon: sabiancrash: i tried it once, didn't work
[23:36:00] phon: i had to install some .net archives
[23:36:00] GreyFoxx: eventually someone will get around to compiling mythfrontend for windows

[23:36:00] phon: yeah
[23:37:00] phon: it crashed te whole pc
[23:37:00] phon: got rid of it very vast :)
[23:37:00] sabiancrash: i think the reason people don't is i believe Qt costs for windows
[23:37:00] GreyFoxx: sabiancrash: they recently released 4.0 which is gpl'd for windows as well
[23:37:00] sabiancrash: i highly doubt that

[23:37:00] Discipulus: sabiancrash, only to get a license to compile for it, not to distribute .exe's compiled using Qt
[23:37:00] sabiancrash: then even i should be able to compile on windows
[23:37:00] Discipulus: ;-)
[23:38:00] GreyFoxx: so eventually once myth is working fully with qt4 then it shouldn;t be a ton of work to get it to work on windows
