[00:52:00] GotD0t: ok
[00:52:00] rjune: aka, maybe. :-)
[00:52:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, the nvidia drivers will work better
[00:52:00] rjune: GotD0t: which distro?
[00:52:00] GotD0t: debian
[00:52:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, oh, it's easy to build on debian- i'll get you a link
[00:52:00] GotD0t: thanks jasoncohen

[00:54:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, you can build the driver for your kernel with module-assistant- takes 30 secs and it then installs the .deb package it creates
[00:54:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, what kernel are you using?
[00:54:00] GotD0t: 2.6.11.9
[00:55:00] jasoncohen: apt-get install module-assistant nvidia-kernel-common
[00:55:00] jasoncohen: module-assistant auto-install nvidia

[00:56:00] GotD0t: thanks again
[00:56:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, i asked what kernel you were using because there are prebuilt modules for 2.6.8-2–386 2.6.8-2–686 and 2.4.27-2–386 /686,/k6/k7

[00:57:00] GotD0t: i see
[00:57:00] jasoncohen: but with 11 archs and several kernel versions it's stupid to have modules built for every kernel
[00:57:00] GotD0t: whatever
[00:57:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, if you install a new kernel all you have to do is m-a a-i nvidia and you'll be set to go
[00:58:00] GotD0t: cool
[00:58:00] jasoncohen: or if you want to type more : module-assistant auto-install nvidia
[00:58:00] GotD0t: figured as much
[01:00:00] jasoncohen: GotD0t, then you'll have to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to change nv to nvidia
[01:00:00] GotD0t: i knew that much
[01:00:00] GotD0t: hehe
[01:01:00] jasoncohen: it's on the 2nd section of that page- remove dri and GLcore and add Load "glx" yada yada

[03:54:00] ZaphodTX: Can someone point me to a document that explain the channel change process? I just don't see the entries in lircrc that says prog =mythtv ends up calling my external change channel script.

[04:00:00] ZaphodTX: I wish I knew how mythtv knew to not try and change the channel locally and just use the external script only.

[04:03:00] psm321: simpler

[04:05:00] psm321: but i've gotten used to that
[04:06:00] psm321: and also theres lots of osd glitches, prolly because most people dont run at that resolution
[04:06:00] abarbaccia: ZaphodTX, are you having trouble with an IR Blaster workign with myth
[04:07:00] ZaphodTX: no, serial cable and ext script getting called.
[04:07:00] abarbaccia: alright, well does the script work when you call it from the shell
[04:07:00] ZaphodTX: yes
[04:07:00] ZaphodTX: just changed the channel and the kids.
[04:07:00] abarbaccia: okay, did you go into mythtv-setup
[04:07:00] psm321: oh i did try to get an ir blaster working once to try to control my tv, but it didnt work (prolly protocol incompatibility or something)
[04:07:00] ZaphodTX: yes and set the path (absolute)
[04:08:00] abarbaccia: alright, did you specify what channel your TV needs to be on in the line below?
[04:08:00] ZaphodTX: well, I did that first but then I just switched to S-Video. Do I still need that?
[04:08:00] abarbaccia: default its blank, but if you put 3 in there, it'll leave ur TV tuned to 3 and just exec ur script
[04:08:00] abarbaccia: yes
[04:09:00] ZaphodTX: I still need the 3 in there?
[04:09:00] abarbaccia: well
[04:09:00] abarbaccia: wait
[04:09:00] psm321: why would u need it for svideo?
[04:09:00] ZaphodTX: There are two entries. I put 3 in for both.
[04:09:00] abarbaccia: what switched to svideo – from what to what
[04:09:00] ZaphodTX: I was using Coax and now using svideo
[04:09:00] abarbaccia: hurm
[04:09:00] abarbaccia: well, i would mess with those settings – because its in those settings that is gonna make it work or fail
[04:10:00] ZaphodTX: I do notice when I switch channels now or try to that there is not channel in shown.
[04:10:00] psm321: so if ur running mythtv, and in the background manually run the channel change script does it change the channel in myth?
[04:10:00] ZaphodTX: yes
[04:10:00] abarbaccia: psm321, if you put channel 3 in there it shouldnt
[04:10:00] abarbaccia: i say put a 3 in that box so it doesnt change the channel
[04:10:00] psm321: why not?
[04:10:00] abarbaccia: because myth knows not to
[04:11:00] psm321: i meant the channel change script that changes on the tuner box
[04:11:00] abarbaccia: if you change the channel on your satellite box, your TV needs to stay on channel 3
[04:11:00] ZaphodTX: which box, there is one for default and one for something else
[04:11:00] ZaphodTX: It is the box that says is only for externally controlled boxes or the other one?
[04:11:00] abarbaccia: urgh, i dont know offhand
[04:11:00] abarbaccia: and the tv is so far
[04:11:00] abarbaccia: (across the room)
[04:12:00] psm321: abarbaccia: yeah i know, maybe my question wasnt clear... i meant given that mythtv is tuned properly (because he said he could watch one channeel), will running the tuner channel change script change the channel displayed in myth?
[04:12:00] ZaphodTX: I will have to try that for sure.
[04:12:00] ZaphodTX: I usually exit the frontend to test the channel change command.
[04:12:00] abarbaccia: psm321, no, your script usually uses the irsend command, which controlls another instance of lirc – and myth knows to just sit tight
[04:13:00] abarbaccia: psm321, all the change script does is execute the irsend command one time for each digit in the channel, then sends the OK command
[04:13:00] ZaphodTX: irsend command? This is the part I know nothing about.
[04:14:00] abarbaccia: ZaphodTX, thats irblaster stuff
[04:14:00] abarbaccia: if you are using a serial connection, then its something else

[04:20:00] psm321: the reason it cant connect to mysqld is because mysqld isnt running (unless you managed to fix that...)

[04:52:00] psm321: mysql -umythtv -pmythtv mythconverg assuming default user/pw
[04:52:00] psm321: OUCH|w0rk: digital cable or basic?
[04:52:00] woodwizzle: ok
[04:52:00] OUCH|w0rk: digital cable
[04:52:00] psm321: i think you need a box but i'm not certain
[04:52:00] psm321: you may be able to get basic channels w/o a box
[04:53:00] ZaphodTX: psm321|abarbaccia: I got it working thanks for the help.
[04:53:00] OUCH|w0rk: Ahh
[04:53:00] psm321: i dunno for sure tho, i've never had digital
[04:53:00] OUCH|w0rk: Im not getting any channels just snows
[04:53:00] psm321: ZaphodTX: what was the problem?
[04:53:00] psm321: ZaphodTX: (just curious)
[04:53:00] ZaphodTX: I am not really sure. I verified that the script was getting called but putting a cat to a file in the script.
[04:53:00] psm321: OUCH|w0rk: do you get any channels if you hook the cable direct to ur tv?
[04:53:00] ZaphodTX: it was but still not working.
[04:54:00] psm321: woodwizzle: are you in?
[04:54:00] ZaphodTX: I cleared out all the channel info and config. Then re-ran mythfilldatabase.
[04:54:00] woodwizzle: yup
[04:54:00] psm321: woodwizzle: desc program;
[04:54:00] ZaphodTX: Then modified script and hard coded it to be a D10–100 receiver.
[04:54:00] psm321: woodwizzle: and paste the row about manualid
[04:54:00] ZaphodTX: The script worked before so I don't know if that helped but it appears to be the fix. Still not certain though.
[04:54:00] woodwizzle: manualid | int(10) unsigned | | | 0
[04:55:00] woodwizzle: thats the last row too.
[04:55:00] ZaphodTX: woodwizzle, you can use webmin to look at sql database.
[04:55:00] ZaphodTX: that is how I modify it, etc. very easy interface.
[04:55:00] woodwizzle: webmin?
[04:55:00] ZaphodTX: ya.
[04:55:00] psm321: woodwizzle: hmm so it got thru halk an update

[04:59:00] OUCH|w0rk: Good question, I haven't tried

[05:00:00] woodwizzle: which was the theme I was using before I upgraded
[05:00:00] psm321: OUCH|w0rk: well you need to :) ... you need to have that working first
[05:00:00] Chuji: doesn't look like there is much support for fedora core 4. Should I just build from source to install it?
[05:01:00] Chuji: I've always used the rpm's in the past

[19:30:00] xris: or talking per-file?
[19:30:00] GreyFoxx: ext2 on a linux kernel 2.4 has a limit of 2 GB I believe, 2.6 has large file support
[19:30:00] iggy: xris: per file
[19:30:00] GreyFoxx: But there is some sort of 2 T limit overall
[19:30:00] iggy: that's the limit on block devices
[19:31:00] xris: according to my sysadmin friend who knows (just ask livejournal about their 600G database files), ext2 with 2.4 maxed out at 2G
[19:31:00] iggy: in 2.4 without LBD enabled
[19:31:00] xris: GreyFoxx: also with older kernels.
[19:31:00] xris: can now make bigger partitions

[19:34:00] iggy: lirc is broken then
[19:34:00] JonK: ill send a message about the error to them
[19:34:00] iggy: if it opened the files with O_LARGEFILE, it should be able to create at least 16G files
[19:35:00] JonK: but i thought you were saying the ffilesystem woud not allow lirc to grow the file
[19:35:00] JonK: even if opened with O_LARGEFILE
[19:35:00] iggy: it's all very complicated
[19:35:00] GreyFoxx: JonK: It has to take advantage of large file support
[19:36:00] iggy: there has to be pieces in place at the fs layer, the libc layer, etc.
[19:36:00] iggy: any recent distro should have everything in place
[19:36:00] JonK: running ubuntu horay hedgehog
[19:36:00] iggy: so, that leaves lirc as the culprit
[19:36:00] JonK: ok
[19:37:00] iggy: that lfs page talks about SUSE 7.0 having support if that tells you anything
[19:37:00] JonK: i see, if lirc does not take advantge of large file support, it will still crap out when file grows over 2gb? system provides capability; lirc fails to exploit it.
[19:37:00] JonK: ?
[19:38:00] iggy: correct
[19:38:00] JonK: and,
