[00:00:00] pookSter: bout time somebody put those FCC in their place don't u think?
[00:00:00] leftyfb: nope ... didn't know exactly how .. but the point is ... the drive is mounted IN the path that IS set in the music settings .. should'nt it find it?
[00:00:00] j-rod: xris, nah, if I get it, we'd try to move somewhere near Kirkland
[00:01:00] Tommck: pookSter – now they'll just lobby congress to pass the law
[00:01:00] JeepJerk (JeepJerk@69-170-112-195.clspco.adelphia.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:01:00] j-rod: b'ham would only be a maybe if I went consultant again
[00:02:00] JeepJerk: so is mythtranscode --showprogress supposed to do something>?
[00:02:00] loudawg: leftyfb: I guess it would. But it's not hard to set the path, just go to your music settings. But also, have you gone to "search for new music?"
[00:02:00] leftyfb: yeah, i've searched for new music
[00:03:00] pookSter: Well, everyone else can read about the failed broadcast flag here...www.news.com
[00:03:00] loudawg: run your frontend from the command prompt, and see if anything weird shows up regarding mythmusic, especially anything regarding the database
[00:04:00] loudawg: I actually had this problem before, because either I, or something else deleted a music table from the database. If this is the case, then it's easy to add it again
[00:04:00] leftyfb: what i just tried now was to mount the drive directly as /mnt/media/Music ... where the music was set before and it found music from ... now with the drive mount there it doesn't find any music
[00:04:00] leftyfb: hm
[00:04:00] leftyfb: i wonder though...
[00:04:00] Tommck: I'm having trouble compiling MythGallery... it's missing the library "Xmu" ?
[00:04:00] leftyfb: btw .. this is an ipod i'm trying to get to work on an xbox :)
[00:05:00] JeepJerk: I don't think that works
[00:05:00] JeepJerk: lefty
[00:05:00] leftyfb: no reason why it shouldn't
[00:05:00] leftyfb: it's just linux running .. the ipod is seen as a usb drive .. i can see the files just fine
[00:06:00] JeepJerk: lefty: I don't have one but I asked someone about it and they said that you couldn't access the songs you put on with itunes when you mounted it as a drive
[00:06:00] leftyfb: heh
[00:06:00] leftyfb: first of all
[00:06:00] JeepJerk: oh well then good
[00:06:00] leftyfb: I don't use itunes
[00:06:00] leftyfb: and I can certainly access and play the music on the ipod just fine on any pc I mount it on
[00:07:00] leftyfb: it's just a hidding folder
[00:07:00] leftyfb: hidden*
[00:07:00] JeepJerk: he must've just not known how to use his ipod
[00:07:00] leftyfb: or how to make hidden files show in windows :)
[00:07:00] JeepJerk: cause thats really hard :P
[00:07:00] leftyfb: didn't say it was
[00:08:00] leftyfb: doesn't mean everyone that owns an ipod knows how to do it
[00:08:00] JeepJerk: sucks for him
[00:08:00] JeepJerk: any idea if mythtranscode --showprogress is supposed to do something>?
[00:09:00] leftyfb: i just to be able to say i can play the music on my ipod using my xbox :)
[00:09:00] JeepJerk: well plus all the required ones
[00:09:00] leftyfb: no reason it can't be done
[00:09:00] JeepJerk: you put a usb port on one of your controllers?
[00:10:00] Tommck: anyone know why I'm missing the Xmu library that seems to be part of XFree86?
[00:10:00] leftyfb: well, I do have many adapters for that way .. but no
[00:11:00] leftyfb: i'll show you in a few
[00:12:00] leftyfb: is there a file i can edit to add the music path or does it need to be done through myth?

[00:16:00] JeepJerk: you can only have one folder per host
[00:16:00] leftyfb: :/
[00:16:00] j-rod: anyone know where mp4ff_int_types.h comes from?
[00:16:00] JeepJerk: but its recursive
[00:16:00] JeepJerk: so symlink it
[00:16:00] leftyfb: i've done that
[00:16:00] leftyfb: didn't find the music on it
[00:16:00] JeepJerk: thats all I do
[00:16:00] JeepJerk: and it works
[00:16:00] JeepJerk: did you rescan?
[00:17:00] stoffel: j-rod: afaik it's the aac stuff, libmp4-dev maybe

[00:26:00] leftyfb: the clear top and the front panel
[00:26:00] leftyfb: I mounted the 2.5" tft screen in the top though ... had a guy custom make the "jewel" for it
[00:27:00] JeepJerk: looks slick
[00:27:00] leftyfb: i can use the xbox with only a power cable plugged in .. don't need video .... the tft screen works and I have an internal speaker mounted
[00:27:00] leftyfb: using applications like Xbox Media Center uses the LCD and outputs menu selections and track info
[00:29:00] leftyfb: so now i just need to get the myth frontend to be able to play the music ... no idea why it isn't
[00:29:00] leftyfb: doesn't have a problem with vfat or anything does it?

[01:32:00] mchou: you using*
[01:32:00] Skif: So it is-- never seen that with any other ivtv version, either.
[01:32:00] mchou: I agree with jrod.
[01:33:00] Skif: What should I do to force it to believe it's a 500 (or rather, 2x150)?
[01:33:00] j-rod: given that its treating the card as a 250, its loading some saa7115 stuff that isn't relevant for the 500
[01:33:00] Skif: I was wondering where that was coming from.
[01:33:00] j-rod: options ivtv cardtype= some value I can't recall
[01:33:00] mchou: Skif: use the cardtype parameter......
[01:33:00] j-rod: and its likely the saa7115 load causing the i2c errors you mentioned
[01:33:00] mchou: but it's off by 1.
[01:34:00] mchou: the index is wrong......
[01:34:00] j-rod: mchou, haven't had time to look at that yet either... :(
[01:34:00] iggy: the i2c errors are usually from missing modules

[04:09:00] HRearden: did you test pre-recorded stuff vs. livetv
[04:09:00] HRearden: That would narrow down a record problem vs. video out problem.

[04:13:00] MiX-MaN: filesize doesent matter
[04:13:00] xris: MiX-MaN: do you have mjpeg card?
[04:13:00] HRearden: It could. It seems there is a lot more source-type detection going on now. For instance, in 18 and before my Epia M1000 would refuse to play HDTV, now it attempts to do so and just stutters badly.
[04:13:00] xris: they're mutually exclusive.
[04:13:00] MiX-MaN: no

[04:18:00] protonchris: Any Ideas?

[04:20:00] protonchris: Yeah. it is really strange. with 0.17, recording worked great, but I couldn't get tvout to work. Now with 0.18 tvout works, but recording audio is broken.
[04:21:00] protonchris: Could it be a post processing problem (channel flagging)?
[04:21:00] protonchris: s/channel/commercial/

[04:29:00] protonchris: Analog Cable.
[04:29:00] protonchris: Live TV works fine.
[04:29:00] HRearden: That makes little sense to me at all.
[04:30:00] protonchris: Does mythtv do any post processing that would alter the recording?

[04:33:00] protonchris: The recording is about 3 minutes ahead of the playback. The sound is perfect. It has to be post processing.
[04:34:00] HRearden: Do you have "transcode" the program installed? If so, try doing a "tcprobe -i <filename>" on one you recorded under 17 and then one now and let me know what's different.

[07:18:00] fatmatt: mchou: playing with it now, wouldn't do windows audio streams?
[07:19:00] mchou: fatmatt: use xine/mplayer as the player for windows streams
[07:19:00] mchou: fatmatt: you can configure it.

[07:21:00] mchou: damn xris, I thought you'd set all this stuff up b4......
[07:22:00] xris: I did. under 2.4 kernel
[07:22:00] xris: this is a new kernel, new card, new distro release, new mythtv.
[07:22:00] xris: nothing the same as before other than the computer, and that much works.

[07:31:00] mchou: cause you cant go back (or move forward)
[07:31:00] xris: yup
[07:31:00] xris: well, can go back, but the pvr-150 doesn't play nicely with 2.4

[07:32:00] arrummzen_: Have any of you gotten a USB Video Capture Device working with mythtv?
[07:33:00] xris: it's mostly up now. just can't get lirc transmitter working
[07:35:00] xris: hmm, maybe because lirc doesn't seem to be built with the serial driver.
[07:35:00] xris: arrummzen_: only ones I know of that *might* work are the plextor ones.
[07:35:00] mchou: xris: or more likely your kernel is loading the serial module :)

[08:10:00] timekllr: it's on gentoo, so it's done the gentoo way...have a /etc/modules.d/ivtv with all the setting, modules-update loads it into modprobe.conf

[08:11:00] mchou: timekllr: I didn't ask how it's done in any distro. I asked how you are invoking modprobe.

[08:37:00] mchou: Skif: lol, you using a crappy chicony wireless kb??
[08:37:00] Skif: mchou: yeah, because I have a learning remote, so I figured it was easier to teach my remote to understand keyboard commands than to teach mythtv my remote's commands. :)
[08:38:00] mchou: Skif: what model chicony is this?
[08:39:00] Skif: mchou: KB-0005
[08:39:00] timekllr: mchou apparently you are too full of yourself to be any real help – if the module detects the card right on cold boot but not warm I would certainly call that a bug. and I DID set the cardtype, but the option didn't do jack so get off your damn high horse, you don't know as much as you think
[08:40:00] mchou: mchou looks for pic of KB-0005 on google.
[08:41:00] Skif: timekllr: I found mchou to be very helpful in my approximately 10-day long saga of getting my card working. I know it gets seriously frustrating, believe me! But you might want to chill out for a bit, and see if maybe there's another way to express it.
[08:43:00] mchou: Skif: yeah, I think I saw that KB in a store once. I already had two liteon airboards though. http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/keyboard/sk7100.asp

[08:46:00] mchou: Skif: $10 for shipping?? What a rip.

[12:47:00] Tommck: fatmatt – I didn't think that the OS had anything to do with DVB or anything else for that matter. Of course, it depends on what you're calling the "OS"
[12:48:00] fatmatt: Tommck: Operating system, ie kernel
[12:48:00] fatmatt: though I'm not a code monkey so I'm probably wrong
[12:48:00] Tommck: and you're saying that usb video devices are supported by the kernel?
[12:50:00] fatmatt: well I meant that as other video devices are supported by the kernel I would assume that somewhere in that list a usb video device would be.. I'm just looking into another tv tuner and wondering if it's worthwhile looking at usb
[12:51:00] ** fatmatt checks kernel **
[12:52:00] Tommck: fatmatt – well, It's my understanding that video input devices are supported by kernel modules and not the kernel, though v4l can be compiled into the kernel. I'm just not sure if the USB devices are a standard video device. I know that if there is any usb support in Myth, it's recent. But I am definitely not an expert in this area
[12:52:00] fatmatt: yah, theres a supported usb adapters section there
[12:52:00] Tommck: that's for the USB connection, generically used for tons of stuff, right?

[12:57:00] fatmatt: and normally I want to use the usb tuner as a standalone, travelling etc, and it not turning into a paperweight at some stage in the future would depend on it having another use

[14:26:00] Tommck: a "real" RAID controller would appear like a hard drive to the OS

[14:26:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – software RAID performs about the same.

[14:27:00] Tommck: that's why it's not really useful to use the cheap RAID controllers

[14:27:00] Tommck: yes
[14:27:00] Chacabaou: Good to know...
[14:28:00] Chacabaou: Is software RAID generally a bad idea, then?

[14:28:00] Chacabaou: Or would it be useful to get some redundancy at nearly same speed, at least?

[14:29:00] Tommck: I am actually doing RAID-1 on my file server and I'm thinking about dropping it

[14:30:00] Chacabaou: That's what I meant...
[14:30:00] Tommck: for a home user, I think nightly backups is pretty extreme, so RAID-1 is overkill to me.
[14:31:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: For good backup (not only data security), something like rsnapshot is probably the best idea, since it also protects you from accidental deleting.

[14:32:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: But on the other hand...I just could not backup _all_ of my files. Incremental backups would take too much space for a whole /.

[14:34:00] Chacabaou: (I mean incremental AND with 'version' history)
[14:34:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – right, but it depends on how often you were updating... I wouldn't backup once and then never baseline the backup..
[14:34:00] Tommck: if you do incrementals for a whole year, sure.
[14:35:00] Tommck: but, in order for incrementals to take up more space than the drive, you need to have the drive nearly full AND make lots of modifications to files every day
[14:35:00] Tommck: I'd say full backup once per week and incrementals every day... that shouldn't really take up much more space
[14:35:00] Tommck: (I'm speaking about home use)
[14:36:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: rsnapshots does a whole backup every time by using the old files that haven't changed and hardlinking to them. Therefore I got versions for every passing hour/day/week/month/year, and only need additional space for the changed files.
[14:37:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: I DO make lots of modifications to files in /, since I use Gentoo. ;)
[14:37:00] Tommck: right, but, at what point do you consolidate that? It's useless to keep daily backups for 2 years...
[14:37:00] Tommck: who needs to go back to the backup from July 23rd last year?
[14:38:00] Tommck: You have to re-baseline your backups eventually
[14:38:00] Tommck: otherwise, rebuilding your machine would take decades
[14:39:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Sure. Atm, I have 12 backups for the last 24h, 7 backups for the last week, 4 backups for the last month, and one for every other month. Very much, I know. But these are only very important files.

[14:42:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Hardlinks are nothing more than one more location noted down in the inode. No new inode.

[14:43:00] Tommck: you're right.. LVM snapshots disappear on reboot
[14:44:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Softlinks are files that say "actually, I'm not $myself, but $linktarget". Hardlinks can't be distinguished by they original.
[14:45:00] Tommck: I know that part...
[14:45:00] Chacabaou: :) So what's your point?
[14:45:00] Tommck: What is the point in having both types of links?
[14:46:00] Chacabaou: rsnapshot only uses hardlinks. (?)

[14:48:00] Tommck: ln -s supports going across file systems for one (reading as we chat)
[14:48:00] Tommck: hard links are only on the same disk
[14:48:00] Chacabaou: One advantage...
[14:48:00] Tommck: oh well.. anyway.. I need to figure out why my front end is completely f*cked
[14:49:00] vile_maxim: Anyone up from troubleshooting lirc madness :)
[14:49:00] Tommck: I don't use lirc..
[14:49:00] vile_maxim: :/
[14:49:00] Tommck: infrared keyboard + universal remote = no need to mess with lirc :)
[14:50:00] vile_maxim: Tommck, universal remote? how so
[14:50:00] vile_maxim: get the remove to send keyboard stroks?
[14:50:00] Tommck: vile – if your keyboard's infrared, you can just learn the keystrokes with your universal (programmable) remote
[14:50:00] Tommck: exactly!
[14:50:00] Tommck: my keyboard was < US$20
[14:50:00] vile_maxim: gotcha....
[14:50:00] vile_maxim: that helps
[14:51:00] Tommck: yeah.. it's awesome
[14:51:00] vile_maxim: because a full keyboard is handy anyway
[14:51:00] Tommck: yeah... I use it occasionally when things are screwed up
[14:51:00] vile_maxim: I was tryig to finnish the mythtv project of mine before mother's day :)
[14:52:00] Tommck: Here's my blog entry about the keyboard: http://mymythsaga.blogspot.com/2005/02/perfec . . . end-box.html
[14:52:00] vile_maxim: Tommck, thanks
[14:52:00] Chacabaou: You really need a keyboard for your Frontend?
[14:52:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – when it crashes... if I forgot to program a button... not in normal operations
[14:53:00] opello: i prefer a keyboard for mine too — i got a similar one (acer airkey on ebay)
[14:53:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: I got a button that does `killall mythfrontend`. :)
[14:53:00] Tommck: yeah... who the heck wants to deal with lirc?
[14:53:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – ahh :)
[14:54:00] Tommck: I could probably do that by macro-ing "alt-tab & Ctrl-C" :)
[14:54:00] Chacabaou: In fact, LIRC is quite good. Since I understood that "mode"-issue, I even have only one remote that acts both for mythtv and bmp, in two switchable modes.
[14:54:00] vile_maxim: I've been trying to deal with it for a few days now. I think I'll kill someone soon. Tommck, you may have saved a life...
[14:55:00] Tommck: vile_maxim - :)
[14:55:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – bmp?
[14:55:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: beep-media-player. Like xmms, but better. ;)
[14:55:00] Tommck: oh. I just use MythMusic on the front end
[14:55:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Will be replaced by amaroK, soon...
[14:56:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: My TV stands in the opposite corner of my workstation. I just can't control MythMusic while using the computer. ;)
[14:57:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – use VNC
[14:57:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Inside _one_ X-Server?
[14:58:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: I would have to run a vncviewer on :0.2 to control :0.4. Don't suppose that to work.
[14:59:00] gecko is now known as GeckoFiend
[14:59:00] ChanServ sets mode +v GeckoFiend
[14:59:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – it's the same machine?
[14:59:00] Chacabaou: Yep.
[15:00:00] Tommck: then why use a remote for the music?
[15:00:00] Chacabaou: Hmmm. I could put a second TV onto my desk and just copy the signal. :)
[15:00:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Because I don't want to get up from my bed to skip songs.
[15:00:00] Tommck: why a 2nd TV?
[15:00:00] Tommck: oh.
[15:01:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: To have a second screen that displays my frontend.
[15:01:00] Tommck: anyway.. different usage for different people :)
[15:01:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: As said... I can't see my frontend while using my other monitors.
[15:01:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – I"m saying that you're on the machine right here, so run bmp from your desktop and use your mouse
[15:02:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: That's what I do. Additionally I control bmp with my remote. That's why I can't use MythMusic.
[15:03:00] Tommck: right
[15:03:00] Tommck: I still think vnc would work for you :)
[15:03:00] Tommck: just in the right configuratoin
[15:03:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: If I could connect to my own screen... dunno.
[15:04:00] Tommck: :)
[15:04:00] Tommck: it's a different desktop, I'd be surprised if it doesn't work
[15:04:00] Chacabaou: It's the same machine and the same X.
[15:04:00] Tommck: yep
[15:05:00] Tommck: but VNC on Linux is desktop-based
[15:05:00] Tommck: $ vncviewer machine:0.4
[15:05:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: There's no "desktop". Do you mean display?
[15:05:00] Tommck: that's what I meant
[15:07:00] Chacabaou: Hmmm. X might get confused, if focusses and mouse clicks occure on a window that's actually not the active window (which is vncviewer).
[15:07:00] Tommck: I don't see how
[15:07:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: Running vncviewer machine:0.4 on :1.0 works for sure. But running vncviewer machine:0.4 on :0.2?
[15:07:00] Tommck: who knows.
[15:07:00] Tommck: I don't know.
[15:08:00] Tommck: just use voice control and microphones... that'll work better :)
[15:08:00] Chacabaou: Sure. ;)
[15:08:00] Chacabaou: Especially when listening to music, it is wise to have voice control. :P
[15:08:00] Tommck: anyway, I need to pay someone to come over here and figure out what the hell's wrong with my front-end box
[15:09:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – you need an "attention phrase" for the computer to start listening
[15:09:00] Chacabaou: Tommck: At first, I need to scream that phrase quite loud, if I want to computer to hear it while playing my music.
[15:10:00] Tommck: if you listen to a lot of Snoop Dogg and "shizzle" is your "attention phrase", it might be a bad idea
[15:10:00] Tommck: Chacabaou – it's all about microphone placement
[15:10:00] Tommck: you won't be able to shout across a room while music's playing.
[15:10:00] Tommck: you need a bunch of microphones installed in the likely places you'll be when you need to change things

[15:34:00] man_in_shack: any suggestions?

[15:36:00] Tommck: why isn't that an option?
[15:37:00] man_in_shack: cos the cables would either be exposed, running through walls and exposed, or going through a brick wall and concealed

[16:39:00] flindet_: it seems like there's a pointer to "dev" that might holding the mappings, but I don't know where that's defined

[17:09:00] GreyFoxx: rjune: If they were used in as many deaths I might heh
[17:09:00] rjune: GreyFoxx: ban cars
[17:09:00] rjune: they are used in more deaths then guns
[17:09:00] GreyFoxx: Or fuck it, let every single man woman and child carry around a personaly nuclear device
[17:10:00] rjune: hell, IIRC, drunk driving accounts for more deaths then guns

[17:10:00] laga: drunk driving is banned, too.
[17:10:00] GreyFoxx: rjune: No, an armed society is a scared and paranoid society who are afraid of "the other guy"
[17:10:00] rjune: laga: and see how effective that is.

[17:12:00] rjune: GreyFoxx: me neither. but that's why it won't happen. :-)
[17:13:00] GreyFoxx: It's like hunting. While I think in todays world it's generally unneeded I have no problem with someone hunting (Assuming they eat it) who don't take too much. But wont find me doing it anytime soon. Let alone calling it a sport
[17:14:00] GreyFoxx: Assuming of course the person has proper firearm training :)
[17:17:00] rjune: GreyFoxx: agreed on the hunting bit

[17:18:00] laga: yep.
[17:19:00] rjune: GreyFoxx: though my dad put it right. the only way you can call hunting a sport is if you use a knife, drop down from the tree and run it down.

It seems to stay the same when I make large changes (very noticable on the analogue signal) to the direction. If I point the aerial completly the wrong way, or tune into the wrong channel, I get a lower signal strength.
