[00:46:00] lucas333: if your cablemodem did not burn to death yet :), I'd love some more.

[00:49:00] NightMonkey: lucas333: OK, I'll set them up. Yeah, it burns a bit (now I see why I need a Qos-capable router), but if it helps...
[00:49:00] NightMonkey: DSL-modem, I should say.
[00:50:00] lucas333: it would help a lot, I've put out a few requests for shows, but so far you're the only one biting.
[00:50:00] lucas333: <did everyone hear that? :) >

[00:52:00] ** kormoc blinks **
[00:53:00] NightMonkey: lucas333: And those shows you have are all 1.2 GB/hour.
[00:53:00] lucas333: well, 3–5 gb is a bit much, but in general I like "one of each" so I can make sure the commflagging works on a broad range of shows / aspects/ bitrates etc
[00:54:00] lucas333: lets hold off on the 5gb shows untill I get myself a new hd here ;p
[00:54:00] NightMonkey: lucas333: No problem.
[00:54:00] iggy: I think lucas333 is just trying to get free shows

[01:04:00] emes: anyone have a 0.18 package for os X, i'm trying to build one myself, but it'd save time if someone did
[01:04:00] NightMonkey: Ripp: (average CPU usage, that is)

[01:17:00] NightMonkey: lucas333: Watch out for the sctv ones. Thats a parody show, and has parodies of commercials!
[01:17:00] NightMonkey: Agrajag-: One moment.
[01:18:00] NightMonkey: Agrajag-: CPU from mythbackend is minimal. Average load (without comflag) is around .3.
[01:19:00] Agrajag-: yeah i get that too
[01:19:00] Agrajag-: i thought that is a little high for being idle
[01:20:00] Agrajag-: not sure exactly what it's doing (just querying database?)
[01:20:00] NightMonkey: lucas333: Still there?
[01:20:00] NightMonkey: Agrajag-: Yeah, and also the kernel (on my box) does have to do some work just to get the bits off the PCI bus, disk, and such.

[01:24:00] tyrese: Is it possible to play audio CD's?
[01:24:00] CygnusX1: In a pinch, you could also use DVB-S2 adapative coding and modulation, in coordination with reducing the encoding rates on the MPEG-4 encoding for each program in a spot beam, but that would be painful to implement...although the Terayon Cherrypicker can rate reduce an MPEG-2 program in the compressed domain, maybe someone can figure out how to do that with MPEG-4 as well.

[01:27:00] tyrese: It doesn't even access the CD
[01:27:00] CygnusX1: Say, on that note, are there any TV cards out, or close to being available which do hardware MPEG4 encoding?
[01:28:00] Agrajag-: tyrese: have you set the cd device correctly in music setup?
[01:28:00] tyrese: Agrajag-, I think so, yes

[01:33:00] j3_: howdy
[01:33:00] j3_: can't stay long, supposed to be getting a call in a few...
[01:34:00] mchou: ok, j3_, yup,..... here's the question....
[01:34:00] NightMonkey: CygnusX1: Wow, do you work for Echostar? Wish I knew what you were saying about MPEG4 ;).
[01:34:00] ** j3_ wonders how things are going with mchou's m179 and pvr-150... **

[01:34:00] j3_: heh
[01:34:00] CygnusX1: NightMonkey, ROFL. I ripped that off from a post on /. It was so impressive I had to repeat it. :-)
[01:34:00] j3_: I should dig my m179s back out
[01:35:00] mchou: j3: dueling tuners.... :)
[01:35:00] mchou: j3_: what ivtv you using with 150?
[01:35:00] j3_: I've already got too many cards to play with tho...
[01:35:00] NightMonkey: CyberKnet: Hah! I got served.
[01:35:00] j3_: 0.3.3.... uh... g? I think...
[01:35:00] j3_: no, n
[01:35:00] CygnusX1: IS anyone using a Plextor PX-TV402U with Myth yet?
[01:36:00] mchou: j3_: hmm, OK.....
[01:36:00] NightMonkey: CygnusX1: Hah! I got serverd.
[01:36:00] j3_: ISTR upgrading to n
[01:36:00] NightMonkey: CyberKnet: (sorry, not for you)
[01:36:00] j3_: no, wait, you were trying n and it didn't work
[01:36:00] j3_: I must be back on g
[01:36:00] mchou: j3_: whats your tuner type on 150, 47?
[01:36:00] j3_: yup
[01:36:00] j3_: its an mce model too, btw
[01:36:00] CygnusX1: :-)
[01:36:00] mchou: tuner 50 seems to have some real issues in ivtv :)
[01:37:00] mchou: j3_: ENC IRQ OVERFLOW junk.
[01:37:00] j3_: there were some bad defs for that tuner for a little while...
[01:37:00] j3_: though I don't think that should have any bearing on those messages
[01:37:00] CygnusX1: mchou, I am using tuner 50 (autodetected) with 0.3.3k without issue. Great video and sound
[01:37:00] mchou: CygnusX1: what kernel?
[01:37:00] CygnusX1: 2.6.11.7 I think
[01:38:00] CygnusX1: yes, 2.6.11.7
[01:38:00] j3_: mchou: so what about the HD cards?
[01:38:00] mchou: CygnusX1: heh, maybe stuff been fixed in that kernel.....
[01:39:00] CygnusX1: I was getting that ENC error before k. Also, I hardly have anything added to my config files. It is autodetecting it all.
[01:39:00] CygnusX1: mchou, Did you load the firmware for the card?
[01:39:00] mchou: j3_: I have a ge4200 (dont think that has mpeg or even XvMC), how much improvement or reduction in CPU usage am I likely to see if I upgrade to Ge5700?
[01:40:00] mchou: CygnusX1: sure did. What fw ver you using?
[01:40:00] j3_: the 4 series outside of the mx does half XvMC, but does just fine on Xv decode
[01:40:00] j3_: You shouldn't see any difference between a 4200 and a 5700 for Xv
[01:40:00] CygnusX1: pvr150_22_22292.exe
[01:40:00] j3_: Not sure if the 4200 would work with Myth's XvMC implementation
[01:40:00] mchou: j3_: the mpeg part though (for HDTV)
[01:41:00] mchou: j3_: it doesnt :)
[01:41:00] mchou: j3_: not w/o bugs anyway :)
[01:41:00] j3_: okay, yeah, you'd likely see a decent drop in cpu usage using XvMC on the 5700
[01:41:00] j3_: I have yet to see XvMC stable on any system, but I haven't tried any of DTK's Xv/XvMC merge stuff in CVS yet
[01:42:00] mchou: j3_: ok, so is $80 a good deal on 5700? :)
[01:42:00] j3_: I think so...
[01:42:00] mchou: 5700LE......
[01:42:00] j3_: been a while since I've looked
[01:42:00] mchou: 500MHz memory bandwidth.....
[01:42:00] j3_: Though a 5200 would work just as well (got my fanless 5200 for like $40)
[01:42:00] mchou: instead of 400....
[01:42:00] mchou: hard to find 5200 :)
[01:43:00] j3_: for the most part, there's gonna be little or no difference between a GF4MX and a GeForce 6800 Ultra, when it comes to HDTV playback.
[01:43:00] CygnusX1: IS the Xv worth using?
[01:43:00] j3_: Hell yeah.

[01:44:00] mchou: hmm, maybe I should get GF4MX on the cheap.
[01:44:00] j3_: (Xv is what Myth uses by default)
[01:44:00] CygnusX1: Oh...xvmc is a higher level of that?
[01:44:00] j3_: X-video Motion Compensation
[01:45:00] j3_: yeah, does a bit more offloading of mpeg2 decode to the gpu
[01:45:00] CygnusX1: Ok, roger that
[01:46:00] mchou: CygnusX1: can you do me a big favor? What's md5sum of firmware?

[01:49:00] CygnusX1: hang on...do you know what it is called and where it is extracted too? I was tired when I set this up.
[01:49:00] mchou: should be in/libs/modules/ivtv*.bin
[01:50:00] CygnusX1: I know I had a hell of a time getting it out. The perl script didn't want to do its duty.
[01:50:00] CygnusX1: decode or encode?
[01:50:00] mchou: encode.

[02:00:00] CygnusX1: What problems are you having?
[02:00:00] mchou: real nasty stuff (w/older fw though)
[02:01:00] CygnusX1: I had a ton of trouble when I first started about three weeks ago...tried using knoppmyth...bad, bad, bad (and I am not blaming km...it is a great piece of work)
[02:01:00] CygnusX1: THen, I installed Slackware 10.1, k2.6.11.7, ivtv 0.3.3k, and that firmware and BAM. It was beuatiful.
[02:02:00] CygnusX1: Myth 0.18 btw
[02:03:00] CygnusX1: I seemed to be able to get either good video (though never as good as now) or good audio but not both before.

[06:13:00] mechtn: file /usr/X11R6/include/X11/extensions/vldXvMC.h from install of libXvMCW-0.9.3–1.rhfc3.at conflicts with file from package xorg-x11-devel-6.8.2–1.FC3.13_2.rhfc3.at
[06:13:00] xanderp: backslash__:sorry, i wasn't clear. I have irexec run from Autostart, and the power button bound to a script that tries to launch mythfrontend. i'm just WATCHING from the ssh console

[06:14:00] backslash__: xanderp, heh ok that makes more sense
[06:14:00] rjune: backslash__: I would love to. I don't see it on mythtv.org, looking in docs right now
[06:15:00] xanderp: it seems like it's not happy about who launched irexec. (like it wasn't launched inside of X)
[06:15:00] backslash__: got to wonder if you are running mythfrontend before X starts
[06:15:00] xanderp: i'm going to try manually launching irexec from within X
[06:17:00] backslash__: mechtn, damn that error looks like work heh
[06:17:00] mechtn: aw dont say that
[06:17:00] backslash__: lol
[06:18:00] mechtn: should i just uninstall mythtv
[06:18:00] mechtn: and then try and install it clean?
[06:18:00] backslash__: seriously though there are ways to fix that error
[06:19:00] backslash__: looks like a very important file though that's conflicting
[06:19:00] backslash__: mechtn, did you apt-get update first?
[06:19:00] mechtn: ya
[06:20:00] mechtn: i get this also when i do apt-get dist-upgrade
[06:20:00] mechtn: Failed to fetch http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/3/i386/ . . . fc3.i386.rpm 403 Forbidden
[06:20:00] mechtn: on abunch of different ones
[06:21:00] backslash__: one thing to do is wait a few days until the apt package (for xorg) is fixed
[06:21:00] backslash__: if you are in a hurry, then you could reinstall fedora like you said, but back up your recorded shows (and the database) first
[06:22:00] backslash__: if you don't back up the database and your shows, then you will lose them
[06:22:00] backslash__: use mysqldump to back up the database — and there are posts in the mailing list that say how to do that
[06:23:00] rjune: the howto tells how to do that too I think
[06:23:00] backslash__: well that's convenient then
[06:24:00] rjune: http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.15 <--
[06:24:00] mechtn: ok i'm going to bed
[06:25:00] xanderp: ok, so if i manually run irexec from my X session i can get the power button to launch frontend. I don't think the kill is working though, as i can have multiple copies of frontend running if i hit power repeatedly.

[06:26:00] backslash__: rjune, lot of good info here http://mythtv.beirdo.ca/wiki/ and also at mythtv.org
[06:27:00] backslash__: the questions you ask are probably best answered at those places
[06:28:00] backslash__: xanderp, so irexec is dying when myth crashes

[06:29:00] xanderp: backslash__: 2 problems, 1: i don't know how to get irexec to run IN my X instead of before it launches. 2: the mythpowerbutton.sh doesn't seem to be able to properly kill mythfrontend for me.
[06:30:00] xanderp: i gutted the kill/reboot of the backend from the script as I don't want it to kill those.
[06:31:00] backslash__: xanderp, to get something to run IN your X, can add that something to an X startup script in your /home/mythtv directory
[06:31:00] backslash__: assuming mythtv is your mythtv user name
[06:32:00] xanderp: running kde, would that be /home/mythtv/kde3.3/Autostart/ ?
[06:32:00] rjune: backslash__: well, mythtv.org is where I was looking and not seeing the answers

[06:35:00] backslash__: can just drop a symlink in there that points to irexec
[06:35:00] xanderp: i think it needs to be a script since i need it to be a daemon 'irexec -d' or am i mistaken?
[06:36:00] backslash__: script is fine to drop in there
[06:36:00] backslash__: into that dir
[06:36:00] xanderp: k... now to figure out the reason it isn't killing frontend before relaunching it.... hmmm

[08:22:00] linagee: Agrajag-: couple of megabits down, couple of kilobits up
[08:22:00] linagee: same on the other side. so you're looking at kilobits going in both ways

[08:24:00] linagee: hmmmm
[08:24:00] Agrajag-: i think normal cable is only 16kB/sec up, but that's changing soon
[08:24:00] Agrajag-: but 10mbit dow
[08:24:00] linagee: they probably have it uncapped or something. lol.
[08:24:00] Agrajag-: down
[08:25:00] linagee: 10mbit down??
[08:25:00] linagee: i've got 6mbit down on dsl
[08:25:00] linagee: everyone's cable here is capped at 4.5mbit down
[08:25:00] linagee: it doesn't matter anyhow

[08:26:00] linagee: the internet is too slow. lol.

[08:26:00] linagee: ??
[08:26:00] linagee: edit the db?
[08:27:00] Agrajag-: yeah.. you need to fix up input/cards right?
[08:27:00] linagee: bah. i wouldn't even know where to begin
[08:27:00] Agrajag-: the 'capturecard' and 'input' tables :)
[08:27:00] linagee: i might be able to put in shows or query shows by hand, but that's my limit
[08:27:00] Agrajag-: no.. 'cardinput'
[08:28:00] Agrajag-: hm yeah without examples it might be a bit hard
[08:28:00] Agrajag-: so uh.. if you'ev got such a slow connection to this backend – how're you gonna watch recordings?
[08:28:00] linagee: Agrajag-: go over to the box. :)
[08:28:00] Agrajag-: haha ok
[08:29:00] linagee: Agrajag-: i just don't want to wait that long as shows already started not recording. :-/
[08:29:00] Agrajag-: oh.. so it was working and now it's not?
[08:30:00] linagee: exactly. i MIGHT have messed with mythtvsetup before. not sure if that was before it stopped working. (possibly)
[08:30:00] linagee: i think everyone needs snapshots for linux. :)
[08:31:00] linagee: then just have mythtv data and linux os on two different drives
[08:31:00] Agrajag-: or just database backups :P
[08:31:00] linagee: then you should be able to say, "go back 2 weeks on the OS drive when it was working"
[08:31:00] linagee: my backups right now consist of absolutely nothing
[08:32:00] Agrajag-: heh.. i backup mythconverg every few days
[08:32:00] Agrajag-: anyway i guess you'll have to wait till you can run mythtvsetup
[08:33:00] linagee: what needs to be backed up? xmltv can always redownload. LOL
[08:33:00] linagee: oh wait
[08:33:00] linagee: shoot
[08:34:00] linagee: if it forgets the shows i've watched....
[08:34:00] linagee: it will start recording everything. that would be such a sucky thing
[08:34:00] Agrajag-: just backup the entire database with 'mysqldump -umythtv -pwhateveryourpasswordis mythconverg'
[08:35:00] Agrajag-: > backup.sql
[08:35:00] linagee: after stopping mythbackend and mysqld of course. :)
[08:35:00] Agrajag-: nah
[08:35:00] linagee: or should you have to...
[08:35:00] Agrajag-: don't have to

[08:40:00] adante: when i call tv_grab_au from the shell it takes about 10s to run, from mythfilldatabase it says tv_grab_au: finished in 0:0  — that and it doesn't perform any updates

[08:44:00] linagee: 5 local channels and everything else is from europe?
[08:45:00] adante: Agrajag-: thanks! that worked for everything except ten

[08:45:00] Agrajag-: unless you have cable

[08:47:00] linagee: Agrajag-: no, because you do computers and watch mythtv on a computer. :)
[08:48:00] linagee: does that count as computer time or tv time? lol
[08:48:00] adante: Agrajag-: erp, sorry http://immir.com/tv_grab_au
[08:48:00] Agrajag-: tv time :)
[08:48:00] Agrajag-: adante: lemme have a look

[08:48:00] linagee: Agrajag-: i live in the USA. there's not 4 hours of programming worth mythtv-ing a day. lol. i only mythtv/watch the best. :)
[08:49:00] Agrajag-: adante: sure hang on a sec
[08:49:00] Agrajag-: i've slightly modified mine to work with the ABC2/SBSNEWS dvb channels.. but it should still work for you
[08:49:00] Agrajag-: http://home.whatsbeef.net:1339/~filip/tv_grab_au
[08:50:00] linagee: Agrajag-: modify it to record programs with dubya. :)
[08:50:00] Agrajag-: you'll have to edit the top part of it a bit to set your location and xml
[08:50:00] Agrajag-: id stuff
[08:50:00] Agrajag-: linagee: do programs in the US start/stop on time?
[08:51:00] Agrajag-: here it's terrible, tv stations almost always go over time and start late and stuff. they're trying to steal ratings from other channels by doing that. it's so annoying
[08:51:00] linagee: Agrajag-: most do. i think they are starting to throw off the times just to piss off mythtv and other PVR owners.
[08:51:00] adante: Agrajag-: ahh, used to be using that one, but for some reason the lwp perlfunc getstore() doesn't work for me
[08:52:00] Agrajag-: adante: got the right perl modules installed?
[08:52:00] adante: well i got lwp.. the function gets called but it always returns in an error

[08:59:00] adante: Agrajag-: thank you
[08:59:00] linagee: Agrajag-: does it seem weird that you develop mythtv to further USA's couch potato-ing? :)
[08:59:00] Agrajag-: i dont develop mythtv :)
[08:59:00] linagee: what do you develop then?
[09:00:00] Agrajag-: bit of licq

[13:57:00] GreyFoxx: I don't doubt there are issues when using the decoder on it, but any decoder error you are seeing whgile watching in a window is likely no card related since the decoder is used during tv out, not when playingback to a monitor.

[13:59:00] ** ProtocoLD drinks his morning coffee **

[21:46:00] mchou: xris: forget about it. bbti doesnt have resources to work on cablecard version.
[21:46:00] cyberknet: xris: I see. I was under the impression that cable cos all used different digital schemas. My bad =)

[21:47:00] xris: cyberknet: something like that. I think that's related more to guide data, etc. mchou apparently knows more, though.

[21:52:00] xris: cyberknet: likely.
[21:52:00] xris: since it's a different encryption scheme as far as the hardware is concerned.
[21:52:00] cyberknet: something about cablecard only supporting single direction communication.

[22:10:00] xris: when we got stuff installed here at work, the guy said that they don't even bother putting them on anymore since it's more work to remove them later when people want internet (or digital, or whatever)
[22:10:00] mchou: cyberknet: yeah, same here.
[22:11:00] cyberknet: I just have basic basic cable.
[22:11:00] cyberknet: and I only pay $2 / month for it after a $10 discount for having cable internet.
[22:11:00] mchou: cyberknet: lol, I have basic "limited"

[22:11:00] mchou: what's*
[22:13:00] f0m0 (~f0m0@13-198.207-68.tampabay.res.rr.com) has left #mythtv-users
[22:14:00] xris: man, basic cable here is still like $35 on top of internet.
[22:14:00] xris: plus taxes.
[22:14:00] kormoc: $43
[22:14:00] cyberknet: mchou: on the order of $57
[22:14:00] mchou: xris: in WA you get ripped.
[22:14:00] xris: mchou: which is why I have Dish.
[22:14:00] mchou: cyberknet: hmm, steep.
[22:14:00] xris: used to be the same price as analog cable, now it's about $8/month less. even after Dish raised their prices.
[22:15:00] cyberknet: xris: "basic cable" that I am talking about is pretty much OTA signals plus a few crap (Religious or HSN-like) thrown in
[22:15:00] cyberknet: mchou: 4 megabit down, 512k up
[22:15:00] xris: cyberknet: ah.
[22:15:00] kormoc: ya, that's $26 a month for basic cable.
[22:15:00] mchou: cyberknet: same here.
[22:15:00] cyberknet: mchou: congrats on a good deal then =)
[22:15:00] cyberknet: mchou: what do you pay?
[22:16:00] mchou: about $30 (not incl taxes)
[22:16:00] cyberknet: wow. sweet deal.
[22:16:00] cyberknet: good for you.
[22:16:00] mchou: $20/internet, $10 basic limited.
[22:16:00] mchou: which are just channels <30.
[22:16:00] ** kormoc smacks mchou with a trout and steals his inet. **
[22:17:00] kormoc: cable inet, 4/768 is $45/month, basic cable is $26/month
[22:17:00] mchou: that's a rip.
[22:17:00] [Klatuu]: bah
[22:17:00] [Klatuu]: cable
[22:18:00] kormoc: you don't say
[22:18:00] cyberknet: [Klatuu]: I'd rather have cable than dsl.
[22:19:00] cyberknet: at least if i have cable I can ditch my phone line, and get voip and pay *nothing* to the local bastard telco. ;)
[22:19:00] cyberknet: I may pay too much because I am with vonage, but that's a different issue. =)

[22:19:00] kormoc: just pay to the local bastard cable co
[22:19:00] mchou: kormoc: I dont know why in WA you guys get ripped so bad. I guest Qwest/verizon doesnt bother to compete via DSL....
[22:19:00] kormoc: verizon is $30 a month for 3/768 dsl
[22:20:00] mchou: which is hy inet prices are so low here.
[22:20:00] mchou: hy*
[22:20:00] mchou: why*
[22:20:00] kormoc: but in Seatac, where I am, it's qwest only, and qwest is quite a but more
[22:20:00] cyberknet: mchou: for what it's worth, I've never seen such a good deal for cable internet as what you are getting.
[22:20:00] mchou: lol....
[22:20:00] xris: mchou: phone and cable "zones" out here are f'd up. and it's all overpriced.

[23:28:00] Beirdo: if nobody knows about said store...
[23:28:00] cyberknet: true enough
[23:28:00] cyberknet: the store may have been asking way too much for them too
