[02:27:00] jemarcks: mchou, i have the output of my DTV receiver hooked to the 150 input. (coax)
[02:27:00] mchou: no, on the computer, I talking about.
[02:28:00] mchou: what gives you this message?
[02:28:00] jemarcks: mchou, mythfrontend
[02:28:00] mchou: lol.
[02:28:00] mchou: you obviously havent read the ivtv docs. cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg is preferred.
[02:29:00] mchou: go reat that part and try that stuff first.
[02:29:00] jemarcks: i did that a few days ago with the same results
[02:30:00] mchou: tghis is thru sivideo, right?
[02:30:00] mchou: this*
[02:31:00] mchou: coax means you need to be tuned to channel 3/4 if I'm not mistaken.
[02:31:00] mchou: try svideo first to make sure svid works.
[02:31:00] jemarcks: mchou, i have it set to tuner 0
[02:31:00] mchou: kind of pointless using coax on DTV recever anyways.
[02:31:00] mchou: coax means you need to be tuned to channel 3/4 if I'm not mistaken.
[02:32:00] jemarcks: i am tuned to channel 3
[02:32:00] mchou: not according to ivtv log.
[02:32:00] jemarcks: ??
[02:32:00] mchou: ioctl: VIDIOC_G_FREQUENCY ~ Frequency = 0
[02:33:00] mchou: that's from your dump earlier.
[02:33:00] mchou: lines 107 to 108
[02:33:00] jemarcks: hmmm... ok. it seems i have something set wrong in the mythtvsetup then.
[02:34:00] mchou: why do you want to coax with DTV anyways?
[02:35:00] mchou: that's just silly. (it degrades picture quality)

[02:42:00] mchou: because I'm not sure if coax still works on DTV is svid is plugged in.
[02:43:00] CygnusX1: it does have caching DNS. go for m0n0.
[02:43:00] jemarcks: mchou, oh ok
[02:43:00] mchou: CygnusX1: nah, looks like I have to bite bullet and buy linksys wrt54G and hack that.

[02:44:00] jemarcks: mchou, i unplugged svid and the picture went away.
[02:45:00] jemarcks: i have coax from DTV to TV and svidio from myth to TV.
[02:45:00] mchou: right. now in myth-setup set tuner to coax......
[02:45:00] mchou: nono...
[02:45:00] mchou: coax from DTV to 150....

[02:46:00] jemarcks: i had it that way before when you told me to use svid.
[02:46:00] mchou: for now, yes. I assuming you want everything on 150 to work.
[02:46:00] jemarcks: ill check again but i dont think it will work.

[02:47:00] [Klatuu]: any good howto on how to setup serial control of a directv box in myth?

[03:43:00] marmoset: mchou: yeah, I don't think it's related to that tho
[03:44:00] jemarcks: mchou, ok, why do i need to do all this after following Jarods guide?

[03:45:00] marmoset: mchou: I don't think so, since 3.2 works "ok" with no errors, and 3.3 gives no video at all, just irq overflows
[03:45:00] mchou: even f/g?
[03:45:00] jemarcks: ok ok.. duh. lol
[03:46:00] marmoset: yeah, just tried g
[03:46:00] mchou: marmoset: well, that's a real shame.
[03:49:00] jemarcks: mchou, does the channel change program Jarod recomens for a RCA DTV receiver work?

[03:54:00] jemarcks: mchou,hmmm... i rebooted, went to live tv, it showed static and i heard some audio like voices. then i hung.
[03:54:00] jemarcks: im rebooting again

[04:55:00] lavid: i can get tvtime to show some regular cable tv
[04:56:00] lavid: and i almost got myth to show something, but then it died

[05:00:00] ** lavid dances b/c he might get his hdtv card working **

[05:01:00] ** rpete hopes he's not too far off here... **

[05:04:00] quink: ?
[05:05:00] quink: cause only so many channels are in hd, would the card be useful for the rest of the spectrum
[05:05:00] rpete: the pchdtv in particular is only good for ota hdtv I believe
[05:05:00] rpete: it will capture nothing else at all
[05:05:00] lavid: but how do i receive regular cable then? i get it with tvtime
[05:06:00] quink: thats my question. i get what it does for hdtv but not regular tv
[05:06:00] lavid: when four8 comes back you can ask him, his works
[05:06:00] rpete: of course I could be wrong, that's what I get from reading hd3000 info though
[05:06:00] marmoset: heh, according to ivtv all my cards have FM
[05:07:00] marmoset: so I've got 4 FM tuners also
[05:07:00] rpete: aha, I'm talking about hd2000 not hd3000

[05:30:00] four8: are you trying to use the v4l driver or the dvb driver?
[05:30:00] marmoset: four8: ok, I think I see the scaling issue. In mythtv it's trying to set it to 480x480 (my settings), but that's failing, that's why I get only half the screen. If I just use mplayer on /dev/video3 it is the whole image, but very low quality
[05:30:00] lavid: the dvb
[05:30:00] mchou: four8: ivtv: i2c client id: 0x02 not found! ~ ivtv: Could not detect tuner standard, defaulting to NTSC. ~
[05:30:00] mchou: is that a "real" error message?
[05:31:00] marmoset: I suppose the quality could be an issue with the cabling or something
[05:31:00] four8: I don't think so...

[05:32:00] mchou: four8: who is the manufacturer of the TCL 2002N tuner?
[05:32:00] lavid: did you have to write any udev rules or permissions?
[05:32:00] four8: mchou: I've seen that i2c error earlier today when things were going south on my attempts at pvr-350 and 500 in teh same box
[05:33:00] four8: not getting it anymore since adding some i2c_enable params to modprob.econf

[05:36:00] marmoset: ok, I feel retarded now
[05:36:00] lavid: yeah, i tried those
[05:36:00] marmoset: quality issue was cable
[05:36:00] four8: marmoset: lol
[05:37:00] marmoset: four8: any idea about what scaling might work and what might not?
[05:37:00] four8: lavid: what did/didn't work with the pcHDTV-provided drivers?
[05:37:00] four8: horizontal scaling seems to be on again, off again in recent versions
[05:37:00] four8: no vertical scaling yet
[05:37:00] lavid: i could get ntsc cable with tvtime
[05:37:00] lavid: which is the same situation with the tar
[05:37:00] lavid: and the kernel
[05:38:00] four8: If you were getting ntsc cable, that means you were actually accessing the v4l driver
[05:38:00] lavid: yeah

[08:24:00] four8: lavid: could always try the cx88-atsc driver instead...
[08:25:00] lavid: k, lemme install the pchdtv drivers
[08:25:00] KarlosII: I was having a heck of a time getting it working on my friends box and was hoping you had a easier solution
[08:25:00] four8: Zero issues here with any cards...
[08:25:00] mchou: tell your friend to move from gentoo :)
[08:25:00] four8: :)
[08:25:00] KarlosII: he finally just got a pvr250 and that worked like a charm
[08:26:00] KarlosII: mchou, ehehehe
[08:26:00] ** KarlosII degraduated to ubuntu for now **
[08:26:00] mchou: KarlosII: I wasnt really joking, you know....
[08:26:00] KarlosII: mchou, I know you weren't
[08:26:00] ** four8 will never stray far from RH **
[08:26:00] ** four8 but also runs lots of debian **
[08:26:00] ** KarlosII hides from rh **
[08:27:00] ** KarlosII equivacates rh to bloatware **
[08:27:00] ** lavid hides from his tv card **
[08:27:00] four8: RH can be just as trim as anything else.
[08:27:00] mchou: rh sux. all sorts of bugs. Once I found a LFS issue with NFS. No files bigger than 2GB across NFS....
[08:27:00] KarlosII: I really need to upgrade my pvr card on this box, I'm still using a ATI wonder in this box
[08:28:00] mchou: was fubar
[08:28:00] lavid: karlos wanna buy a pchdtv?
[08:28:00] four8: RH no suck.
[08:28:00] four8: :)
[08:28:00] KarlosII: nah I'm gonna get a pvr350
[08:28:00] lavid: rsgdf
[08:28:00] derekr (~derekr@derekr.silver.supporter.pdpc) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[08:28:00] KarlosII: although I'm been edging to the pvr250
[08:28:00] mchou: four8: ok, I meant FC.
[08:29:00] four8: FC is a bit bleeding-edge... Sorta like MDK used to be. ;-)
[08:29:00] mchou: mdk sux too, but I know where all the warts are.
[08:30:00] mchou: and how to avoid them :)
[08:30:00] four8: The general consensus I've heard is that all still have lots of issues, its a matter of knowing 'em
[08:30:00] four8: bingo
[08:30:00] four8: I know my RH/FC pretty well, debian less so
[08:30:00] four8: I do have a pair of mdk 10.1 boxes floating about in my collection also
[08:30:00] four8: along with suse 9.2 pro
[08:31:00] four8: and four debian
[08:31:00] lavid (~lavid@mcn50340.urh.uiuc.edu) Quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
[08:31:00] mchou: I tried kubuntu live CD and that seg faulted big time.
[08:31:00] four8: then the army of RH/FC boxes
[08:31:00] four8: I have kubu on my iBook
[08:31:00] mchou: knoppix was way more stable.
[08:31:00] four8: works relatively well, aside from sleep (which only YDL seems to get right)

[08:34:00] tuxristo: mchou: setup mdk 10.1 the other day and a ps/2 wheelmouse wasn't detected properly! had to manually switch to psaux and IMPS/2 in xorg.conf – talk about warts!
[08:34:00] mchou: tuxristo: I had no problems. need to follow directions. Press wheel to activate :)

[08:35:00] four8: how 'bout the v4l pchdtv driver (cx88-atsc instead of cx88-dvb)?
[08:35:00] mchou: 10.2 has been a real pleasure so far for me compared to 10.1
[08:36:00] lavid: i think i'll need to restart to use it
[08:36:00] four8: I can switch between the two no problem, just rmmod cx88-dvb, then modprobe cx88-atsc
[08:36:00] derekr (~derekr@S01060080c8edf145.vc.shawcable.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[08:36:00] four8: 10.2 or whatever the call it...
[08:37:00] mchou: mandriva 2005. what a fscking name.
[08:38:00] four8: mandriva the tranny stripper... I still get a chuckle from that one...
[08:38:00] mchou: it's a pathetic name.
[08:38:00] four8: looks like vertical scaling is working on the 150 and 500 w/the latest ivtv snap
[08:39:00] lavid: k, when i load the atsc /dev/dtv says "ERROR, no inputs found" under default input
[08:39:00] mchou: four8: which driver ver? h?
[08:39:00] four8: k
[08:39:00] four8: (version k, no k as in ok)
[08:39:00] four8: lavid: when you load cx88-atsc you get that?
[08:40:00] lavid: no, in mythtv-setup
[08:40:00] four8: or is that in setup?
[08:40:00] four8: ah
[08:40:00] four8: yeah, its probably loading as /dev/video1 (peep the dmesg output)
[08:40:00] four8: you can manually type that in
[08:40:00] lavid: it is and /dev/dtv -> /dev/v4l/video1
[08:41:00] four8: argh, so with /dev/dtv pointing there and mythtv-setup pointing at /dev/dtv, still nada?
[08:41:00] lavid: correct
[08:42:00] four8: grab the pchdtv-utils, if you would...
[08:42:00] four8: http://pchdtv.freedesktop.org/wiki/
[08:42:00] four8: cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org :/cvs/pchdtv login (Hit enter when prompted for a password)
[08:42:00] four8: cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org :/cvs/pchdtv co pchdtv-utils
[08:43:00] tuxristo: mchou, nah it's because mdk sets mice to "auto" now and b/c the mouse was connected to a kvm, /dev/mouse wasn't symlinked to anything at all, it should have at least defaulted to usb
[08:43:00] four8: cd pchdtv-utils; make
[08:45:00] mchou: tuxristo: usb??? foget about it! no wonder. You're setup is fubar :)
[08:45:00] mchou: tuxristo: last I checked most ppl still use ps2 mice :)
[08:46:00] four8: not me
[08:47:00] four8: I have a four port usb kvm on my desk, usb keyboard and mouse
[08:47:00] four8: for one, that ps2 crap won't work in my Mac (without a spendy adapter)
[08:47:00] mchou: four8: what make kvm is it?
[08:47:00] four8: However, the 8-port kvm on my rack is all ps2
[08:47:00] four8: iogear for the usb one, belkin for the 8-port ps2
[08:48:00] mchou: 4 port one....
[08:48:00] mchou: four8: what's hotkey for iogear?
[08:49:00] four8: that'd be the down-side on this particular one (its like 4 years old)
[08:49:00] four8: no hotkey and it isn't persistent connections
[08:49:00] lavid: k, i got those utils
[08:49:00] four8: they do have newer ones that do that
[08:50:00] mchou: four8: what's hotkey on belkin?
[08:50:00] four8: standard belkin scroll lock double-tap and channel num for the belkin
[08:50:00] mchou: four8: ok, that more reasonable.
[08:50:00] four8: lavid: try dtvscan /dev/v4l/video1 first
[08:51:00] four8: w/the usb box, its right next to the kbd, so no biggie to just hit the button
[08:51:00] four8: 95% of the time its on this machine anyhow
[08:52:00] mchou: I like my cheapo $50 Zonet four port (PS2) KVM
[08:52:00] lavid: k, i got like 70 channels
[08:53:00] mchou: %50 included cables.
[08:53:00] mchou: $50*
[08:53:00] mchou: 4 cables would have cost $50 retail :)
[08:54:00] four8: lavid: anything that looks different than the others there?
[08:54:00] four8: it tries 70 channels, but only some have any data
[08:54:00] tuxristo: mchou: well, it didn't default to either ps2 or usb, that's my beef
[08:54:00] mchou: never given me any problems. but layout/cable managent on the darn thing is ridiculous.
[08:54:00] mchou: management*
[08:54:00] four8: mchou: I like the price of my belkin: free, complete with 8 sets of cables. :)
[08:55:00] mchou: tuxristo: huh???
[08:55:00] mchou: what, it decided on serial? :)
[08:55:00] four8: castoff from work when we started rolling out new Avocent AV2000R KVM switches.
[08:55:00] mchou: four8: nice :)
[08:55:00] lavid: so what do i do
[08:56:00] mchou: the older belkin ugly looking ones or the better looking ones?
[08:56:00] lavid: other than rip this thing out
[08:56:00] four8: its a plain flat box
[08:56:00] four8: nothing much to it, but not ugly
[08:56:00] mchou: four8: yeah, the ugly one.
[08:56:00] four8: :)
[08:56:00] four8: lavid: nothing stands out in that output?
[08:57:00] tuxristo: mchou, mdk 10.1 setup didn't default to either ps/2 or usbmouse  – (i guess b/c i use a kvm) – no biggie though but could have thrown some ppl for a loop
[08:57:00] mchou: tuxristo: I have kvm and it detected just fine.
[08:57:00] mchou: tuxristo: what make is your kvm?
[08:57:00] four8: lavid: just trying to find a working HD channel...
[08:58:00] tuxristo: mchou: hmm, must have been something else, but u agree that setup should default to ps/2 or even ask the user, if it can't detect a mouse
[08:58:00] tuxristo: startech
[08:59:00] mchou: tuxristo: this one? http://www.kvms.com/startech/startech_starview_kvm_switches.asp
[09:00:00] lavid: there are a few channel = 56
[09:00:00] lavid: Signal: 00 .
[09:00:00] lavid: channel = 57
[09:00:00] lavid: does that mean it'll work?
[09:00:00] lavid: i'm tired
[09:00:00] lavid: i'm going to try to get a refund for this thing
[09:00:00] mchou: lavid: how long have you had it?
[09:01:00] lavid: few weeks
[09:01:00] mchou: hmm....

[09:01:00] four8: yeah, one with a signal is good
[09:01:00] tuxristo: i have a belkin that i could try to set up mdk with, if i really wanted to narrow it down
[09:01:00] four8: I had my HD2k for like 6 months before it did anything useful
[09:01:00] mchou: I'm sure you can find someone to buy it if they wont give you refund.
[09:01:00] tuxristo: mchou: nope not that startech
[09:02:00] lavid: i hope so
[09:02:00] tuxristo: mchou: http://www.rackmountsolutions.net/KVM_Switch_4Port_SV411K.asp  – this one
[09:02:00] mchou: tuxristo: lol, proprietary cables???
[09:03:00] mchou: no wonder.....
[09:03:00] tuxristo: :(
[09:03:00] lavid: so, anyone want to buy a pcHDTV 3k... only a few weeks old
[09:03:00] mchou: lavid: hint: sell it after broad cast flag :)
[09:03:00] mchou: not b4 :)
[09:04:00] lavid: so does that only effect the hdtv stuff or ntsc too?>
[09:04:00] lavid: the flag that is
[09:04:00] mchou: lavid: j/k
[09:04:00] mchou: HDTV only.
[09:04:00] tuxristo: mchou: mdk 9.1 and 10.0 installed fine 10.1 and 2005 don't
[09:04:00] mchou: tuxristo: hmm???
[09:05:00] mchou: 2005 was wonderful except for dead penguin :)
[09:05:00] mchou: stars for pupils in eyes, lol :)
[09:05:00] tuxristo: 9.1 and 10.0 detected the mosue with that same kvm while 10.1 and 2005 don't detect it – just another wart on the dead penguin :)
[09:06:00] mchou: those marketing guys at mandrake really deserve to be FIRED....
[09:06:00] mchou: first the name, then the dead penguin theme.
[09:07:00] tuxristo: i just feel lucky that 2005 only has the dead penguin for the booy up – 10.2 release candidate had it as the desktop wallpaper as well!!!
[09:07:00] tuxristo: buuy -> boot
[09:07:00] mchou: lol.
[09:07:00] laga: huh? a dead penguin?
[09:08:00] lavid: k, so what's the recommendation for my wonderful situation?
[09:08:00] mchou: tuxristo: you have a pic to show laga?
[09:08:00] tuxristo: how often do you misspell what you misspelled while trying to correct your mistake – buuy – booy – boot (g'damnit)
[09:09:00] mchou: lavid: try to return 1st.....
[09:09:00] tuxristo: mchou : i wonder if googling for "dead penguin" will make it show – it should be infamous by now
[09:09:00] mchou: if they wont take it back, hang on to it and try to get it working....
[09:09:00] lavid: k
[09:09:00] mchou: come july, sell it :)
[09:10:00] mchou: assuming it still doesnt work by that time.
[09:10:00] lavid: hehe
[09:11:00] laga: tuxristo: i googled for "mandrake dead penguin" and didn't get any hits
[09:11:00] mchou: lavid: but you need to be careful. Avermedia A180 street price is ~$70.
[09:11:00] tuxristo: ok i'll post it somewhere
[09:11:00] lavid: what is the A180?
[09:11:00] mchou: available now. Once linux drivers come out for that one your hd3k will be worth less than that.
[09:11:00] mchou: ATSC/QAM card fro MCE.
[09:12:00] mchou: for*
[09:12:00] mchou: nice card too.
[09:12:00] mchou: just came out sometime last wk.
[09:12:00] lavid: yeah? how close are the linux drivers?
[09:12:00] lavid: oh
[09:12:00] mchou: lavid: should be relatively close.
[09:13:00] lavid: mind elaborating on that?
[09:13:00] mchou: cant.
[09:13:00] lavid: does it get ntsc too?
[09:14:00] mchou: yup.
[09:14:00] mchou: hybrid tuner form ALPS
[09:14:00] mchou: which is why it's nice.
[09:14:00] mchou: from*
[09:14:00] mchou: has svid in too :)
[09:14:00] mchou: and composite.
[09:14:00] tuxristo: http://irstudio.ucalgary.ca/download/deadpenguin.jpg
[09:15:00] mchou: yup, that's it!
[09:15:00] tuxristo: laga: that, if you can believe it, is the new bootsplash background for mandrake^H^H^Hiva
[09:16:00] laga: oh my god
[09:16:00] tuxristo: lol
[09:16:00] mchou: not bootsplash
[09:16:00] lavid: hahahaha
[09:16:00] laga: poor tux
[09:16:00] lavid: no more tux :-/
[09:17:00] tuxristo: it's the image that comes up on mandriva 2005 to hide all the init messages doring boot – godawful
[09:18:00] mchou: you know, that pic says a lot about the low morale at mandrake.
[09:18:00] tuxristo: and like i said b4, 10.2 release candidate had that image as the desktop wallpaper as well
[09:18:00] tuxristo: i cuold not believe my eyes , the first time i saw it,
[09:19:00] mchou: tuxristo: yeah, same reaction here.
[09:19:00] mchou: like wtf!!!
[09:19:00] tuxristo: i guess if that picture AND the mandriva name didn't make me switch back tu SuSE, nothing ever will
[09:19:00] tuxristo: it's like they are testing user loyalty
[09:20:00] mchou: you know that well be a good logo for a system error (I'm thinking Mac bomb here.....)
[09:20:00] mchou: will*
[09:20:00] mchou: when I saw that pic I thought my system panicked :)
[09:21:00] tuxristo: that smile is creepy though for a "system error"
[09:21:00] lavid: k, i'm going to bed, thanks four8 for your help
[09:21:00] tuxristo: that picture IS a system error
[09:21:00] mchou: lol :)
[09:21:00] four8: yeah, time for me to hit the sack too
[09:21:00] four8: so close, yet so far away... :)
[09:21:00] mchou: later then :)

[09:32:00] tuxristo: i usually don't use kde so i hadn't noticed
[09:32:00] tuxristo: i am thinking of making some rpms of a bootsplash with no dead pnguin
[09:35:00] mchou: tuxristo: I dunno. Mandrake is beyond redemption.
