[00:06:00] AranC23: I have a master backend and a slave backend... the slave backend has two DVB cards, and doesn't give me the option to channel scan... the master backend has those options in mythtv-setup, but they are greyed out. Do I have to scan on the master backend? Is it possible that they are greyed out because the master backend was compiled without DVB support?

[15:37:00] Nod51: I am looking to buy a capture card to use with *drum roll* mythtv. I am looking for a well supported card that will give good NTSC quality videos. I am currently looking at the WinTV-PVR-250 (hardware encoder), Air2PC (HDTV), or HD-3000(HDTV). Although less CPU woud be good, for now as long as I can do NTSC quality in MPEG2 on a Ath64 2800+ I don't care.
[15:38:00] bbeattie: The PVR-250 only does NTSC, the pcHDTV does NTSC and ATSC(HDTV) and the air2pc only does ATSC. AMD 2800+ is borderline for it you'll be able to use it without some stuttering at times for HD playback.
[15:40:00] Nod51: I can upgrade the CPU later when I get HDTV in my area, I don't believe it is broadcast there yet

[15:42:00] Nod51: right now, today, recording from my Dish Network reciever is all I care about, I don't mind paying more for HDTV and using CPU to record MPEG2 NTSC, but which will give a 'better' ntsc picture, PVR-250 or pcHDTV?
[15:42:00] Nod51: also which is better supported? I like the fact that pcHDTV only works in Linux
[15:43:00] mishehu: I've not yet had time to configure my pchdtv

[15:44:00] mishehu: configuring the pvr wasn't painful as soon as I found the right driver series to use.
[15:44:00] Tommck: Nod51 – the PVR250 is very well supported AFAIK
[15:44:00] mishehu: I've been too busy with other stuff to get it working. plus, I need an antenna for it.
[15:45:00] Nod51: hmm so many decisions... I have time though to research
[15:45:00] Nod51: so anyone used the pchdtv to get NTSC TV?
[15:47:00] Nod51: I know it is a waste of money to buy pchdtv just to watch NTSC, but I plan HDTV later
[15:47:00] Tommck: bbeattie – can you use the pcHDTV card to watch NTSC in Myth?
[15:48:00] Nod51: also while I am asking, if I got a HDTV Dish Network reciever could I pipe it to the pchdtv card?
[15:48:00] Tommck: Nod51 – no
[15:49:00] Tommck: Nod51 – you can only get OTA HD
[15:49:00] Nod51: ok, thats still ok though
[15:50:00] Nod51: still, if I can't record/watch NTSC with pchdtv then it is worthless for me today
[15:51:00] bbeattie: Tommck: yes, you can use the pchdtv to watch ntsc in myth
[15:51:00] Tommck: Nod51 – except that it'll be illegal to sell the current HD cards in the US on June 30th at midnight
[15:51:00] bbeattie: Nod51: the hd3k has composite video inputs so you could do video in also for myth
[15:52:00] Tommck: bbeattie – hmmm... I didn't realize that... so, it could be used to watch both OTA aHD and a DirecTV box?
[15:52:00] bbeattie: Tommck: yes

[15:53:00] bbeattie: Tommck: the pchdtv 3k also has svideo input, not just composite.. I forgot about that.

[22:20:00] CyberKnet: and everyone does it.
[22:20:00] Beirdo: but if you are doing 112?
[22:20:00] DJ_Rican: if my resolution would change unexpectantly, will it messed up my X display on a tv?

[22:34:00] tanq_: ok i'm taking a vhs recording from cable.. no hd and trying to transfer it to dvd
[22:34:00] Beirdo: OK
[22:34:00] tanq_: at my current rate i'm getting about 1mb/s of video
[22:34:00] Beirdo: if you are going to DVD, record to a DVD resolution
[22:34:00] tanq_: which seems like too much..
[22:34:00] FITH: Heh, I think I kept AllState insurance propped up in the early 90's with my driving :)
[22:35:00] Beirdo: bitrate and resolution are unrelated
[22:35:00] Mek: yes they are
[22:35:00] Beirdo: to make DVDs easier, use DVD resolutions.
[22:35:00] FITH: Got a warning for 195km/h in a 100, had 13 demerits, etc.... I just learned not to get caught over time :)
[22:35:00] hadeees: Beirdo, this is off topic but have you seen this, http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22618
[22:35:00] Beirdo: either 720x480, 352x480 (or x576 if PAL)
[22:35:00] tanq_: yeah i'm using 720x480 right now.
[22:36:00] hadeees: its very funny
[22:36:00] Beirdo: hah
[22:36:00] Beirdo: what a crock
[22:36:00] Beirdo: anyways
[22:36:00] hadeees: yeah if they did that they wouldn't be wasting it on p2p
[22:36:00] Beirdo: so set the resolution you want... are you using a PVR-250?

I just want to be able to watch TV in a window without having to go into the myth setup all the time and reconfigure it.

[23:06:00] phlegm: I should say I need a way to play transcoded files. mplayer should play the mpeg2 files ok but I always transcode after recording.
[23:06:00] pattm: mplayer should already understand any codec mythtv uses
