[01:16:00] SmokingFire: -d /dev/video1?
[01:16:00] fryfrog: rm -Rfv /
[01:16:00] fryfrog: ahhaha
[01:16:00] fryfrog: nah, you run the mythsetup program
[01:17:00] fryfrog: it stores all that shit in the db
[01:17:00] SmokingFire: I need to enter it at command line as I noticed that the tvcard changes from video0 to video1 randomly on reboot.
[01:18:00] ** SmokingFire I also have a webcam attached **
[01:18:00] fryfrog: then you need to make sure its always the same thing
[01:18:00] fryfrog: because you can't do it on the command line
[01:18:00] fryfrog: if you use udev, just setup a rule
[01:18:00] fryfrog: devfs can do it also i think
[01:19:00] SmokingFire: so its possible to set the positions of devices?
[01:19:00] fryfrog: obviously i don't know what distro you use, but it should be :)
[01:19:00] SmokingFire: ubuntu
[01:19:00] fryfrog: do you use a module for em?
[01:19:00] fryfrog: or build it into kernel?
[01:20:00] SmokingFire: fryfrog: I have no idea
[01:20:00] fryfrog: what tv card d you have?
[01:20:00] SmokingFire: I also can check as I'm not on my pc at this moment.
[01:20:00] fryfrog: okay, well i can really help you a lot then ;p
[01:20:00] SmokingFire: About what tvcard, I'm almost hesitating to say.
[01:21:00] fryfrog: make sure you are using modules and then make sure they load in a specific order
[01:21:00] fryfrog: that should result in one always being 0 and the other 1
[01:21:00] SmokingFire: Put its a Pinnacle PCTV Rave. Man, it was a bitch to set it up, but I found on freevo the way to get it working.
[01:21:00] fryfrog: and making sure they load in a specific order is as simple as putting them in order in your modules.conf file
[01:22:00] SmokingFire: The Pinnacle Rave TV cards need you (on linux) to set the right drivers for the bttv and tuner. Else it doesn't work.

[01:26:00] fryfrog: btw, rm -Rfv / does solve all linux issues :)
[01:27:00] SmokingFire: fryfrog: Yeah thanks. but I not that stupid.
[01:29:00] fryfrog: ahah
[01:29:00] SmokingFire: fryfrog: And deleting just my root partition is not that a big deal as in 30 minutes I can have a fresh install running with all the settings of the old as my /home is on another partition.
[01:30:00] CyberKnet: You'd think once you made it 130 days without having to reboot that rebooting once wouldn't be that bad. But it still is.
[01:30:00] Geckofiend: SmokingFire if /home is mounted it doesn't matter what partition it's on

[05:06:00] MRedmon: IEC958.... and that is true. The problem is that I cannot seem to find
[05:06:00] MRedmon: out why it is looking for that specific mixer.
[05:06:00] MRedmon: I have a 7NIF2 and am using the onboard soundcard. Absolutely everything

[07:15:00] Beirdo: well, LVM + drive failure = hell
[07:15:00] quink: is it possible to backup data before i remove the drive and take it off the lvm share?
[07:15:00] quink: hahah great.
[07:15:00] candc540: you have kernel headers
[07:15:00] Beirdo: so if you can still read most of the stuff off the drive you have hope
[07:15:00] candc540: if so it should just compiles
[07:15:00] fbansucks: I installed kernel source
[07:15:00] fbansucks: it compiled just fine
[07:15:00] Beirdo: get another drive, pvmove everything off the dying drive

[07:16:00] dmorrigan: Can anyone here answer if on a PVR-500 MCE card the FM tuner is usable?
[07:16:00] Beirdo: then vgreduce by that drive
[07:16:00] candc540: no should have to type make in the drivers folder
[07:16:00] fbansucks: I typed make
[07:16:00] fbansucks: then install
[07:16:00] candc540: and then after it compiles just type make install
[07:16:00] fbansucks: oh, :P
[07:16:00] candc540: after that add these lines to your /etc/modprobe.conf file
[07:16:00] fbansucks: it says that msp340.ko is already installed
[07:16:00] fbansucks: and to remove it
[07:16:00] candc540: ok
[07:17:00] candc540: back it up or remove it
[07:17:00] candc540: either or works
[07:17:00] Beirdo: if you have enough unused space in the LVM (i.e. not in lv's yet), you can just pvmove without adding another drive to the LVM
[07:17:00] quink: backing up now...
[07:17:00] candc540: i just said screw it i'll delete it
[07:17:00] fbansucks: I deleted it
[07:17:00] candc540: here's the lines for your modprobe.conf
[07:17:00] candc540: ok run make install again
[07:17:00] dmorrigan: Can anyone here answer if on a PVR-500 MCE card the FM tuner is usable under MythTV?
[07:17:00] fbansucks: I did
[07:17:00] fbansucks: candc540: btw, thanks for the help :
[07:17:00] fbansucks: :)
[07:17:00] quink: nah, i used scrap space on all disks to make a 100gig 'tv' partition
[07:17:00] candc540: just to make sure it installs the right one
[07:17:00] candc540: np
[07:18:00] quink: data is going onto another hdd with no errors as of now.
[07:18:00] Beirdo: but if the drive totally fails before you get the data off it, you may lose the entire LVM when it fails
[07:18:00] quink: i guess i can do that, then deal with the bad drive and see

[07:19:00] Beirdo: the LVM HOWTO is good for outlining exactly what must be done
[07:19:00] quink: yeah
[07:20:00] quink: i got into this a while ago, got it down, and haven't used it since so i forogt it all
[07:20:00] candc540: oh btw make sure you remove tveeprom.ko and tuner.ko they're in /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/media/video/
[07:20:00] candc540: i think i got ahead of myself
[07:20:00] candc540: btw dcc would be easier i think

[07:36:00] sarahemm{SA}: nifty :)
[07:36:00] opello: i'm quite impressed — but it's the only one i've ever used for mythtv (i have a wintv go card in my desktop)
[07:36:00] dmorrigan: I am installing my first MythTV box now

[07:36:00] sarahemm{SA}: ahh, okay.
[07:37:00] sarahemm{SA}: we've been running for... about 2y now i think, with this bttv card.

[07:39:00] rpete: sarahemm{SA}, the only thing I miss are the lower bitrates, otherwise pvr-250 has really made life easier
[07:39:00] sarahemm{SA}: rpete: *nods* pretty much everyone moves to hardware encoding it seems.
[07:39:00] roj: thanks anyway guys..thought (stupidly by the way) I'd find a little help not just a "mine is bigger than your's" discussion.

[07:40:00] sarahemm{SA}: okay...
[07:40:00] sarahemm{SA}: *confused*
[07:40:00] dmorrigan: Hey opello do you use the FM tuner on your 500?
[07:41:00] sarahemm{SA}: rpete: can myth be set up to transcode to mpeg4 in idle time after the initial record off the PVR- card?
[07:41:00] rpete: sure sarahemm{SA}
[07:41:00] sarahemm{SA}: coolies.
[07:41:00] sarahemm{SA}: i've been waiting for someone else to fix the code issues, but i think it's time to Use The Source... tasks > time still tho :P
[07:41:00] rpete: to make it worthwhile, you'd want your mpeg2 encode to be as lossless as possible
[07:41:00] sarahemm{SA}: *nods*
[07:42:00] sarahemm{SA}: kinda defeat the purpose of hardware encoding though, i suppose :)
[07:42:00] rpete: and I've tried this, since my dvd player recognizes avi
[07:42:00] opello: dmorrigan: no, never tried it
[07:42:00] rpete: er, divx
[07:43:00] rpete: but the results haven't been satisfactory so far
[07:43:00] dmorrigan: opello, ok. I didn't see anything in the mythtv.org site about it
[07:43:00] opello: dmorrigan: i didn't know if there was a radio module for myth or not — would be kinda neat to record the radio too, heh
[07:44:00] dmorrigan: opello, Yeah that would be kinda cool
[07:46:00] dmorrigan: Can you use any PC to watch stuff from your MythTV box? I am a little fuzzy on that after reading the docs.
[07:47:00] opello: from what i gather, you can use that 'nuvexport' program to throw it to divx, xvid, mpeg2, or whatever — or use mythfrontend on another linux/mac box to watch stuff
[07:48:00] dmorrigan: So there is no frontend for Windows?
[07:48:00] dmorrigan: I am asking cause my GF runs XP and I will be recording stuff for her
[07:48:00] opello: dunno, never looked
[07:49:00] sarahemm{SA}: there's 'winmyth' but on three seperate boxes i've never had it reliably work.
[07:50:00] sarahemm{SA}: it's not 'mythfrontend for windows', it's a seperate project...
[07:50:00] dmorrigan: Ahhh
[07:50:00] candc540: hey sarahemm what the hell is VIB or whatever you called it?
[07:50:00] candc540: what does it do?
[07:50:00] sarahemm{SA}: DSMyth is DirectShow filters that let you use any DirectShow compatible program to play mythtv's files directly.. it works, but it's not pretty.
[07:50:00] sarahemm{SA}: VBI is vertical blanking interval.. it's where closed captioning information is stored.
[07:50:00] sarahemm{SA}: ivtv doesn't have working closed caption support right now.
[07:50:00] dmorrigan: Yeah it needs to be simple for her
[07:51:00] sarahemm{SA}: dmorrigan: yeah.. it's not so good yet on windows.
[07:51:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Hmm... what version of ivtv are you referring to?
[07:51:00] Cardoe: freaking weather
[07:51:00] sarahemm{SA}: i nuvexport stuff to watch elsewhere, that works. you can export to divx or a half-dozen other formats.
[07:51:00] sarahemm{SA}: NightMonkey: anything recentish
[07:51:00] dmorrigan: sarahemm{SA}, If I could get her to stop playing EQ she'd have a MAC ;-)
[07:51:00] opello: where is that little info with show name and time remaining stored? some tvs and vcrs show it?
[07:51:00] sarahemm{SA}: dmorrigan: and macs work :)
[07:52:00] sarahemm{SA}: opello: show name is in the XDS data, also contained with the closed captioning in the VBI...
[07:52:00] NightMonkey: Well, as of media-tv/ivtv-0.2.0_rc3 (dunno about 0.3.X), it does work. MythTV just doesn't see it, on my setup.
[07:52:00] sarahemm{SA}: which is current?
[07:52:00] sarahemm{SA}: ahh, 0.3.x prolly...
[07:52:00] sarahemm{SA}: i don't have any ivtv cards, for just that reason (i'd heard CC doesn't work)... so i'm not the best person to ask :)
[07:52:00] sarahemm{SA}: it'd be nice if it did..
[07:53:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Hard to beat the quality, tho.

[07:53:00] sarahemm{SA}: NightMonkey: video-wise?
[07:53:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Video and audio.
[07:53:00] sarahemm{SA}: cool.
[07:54:00] sarahemm{SA}: i do plan to get a -500 soon and either use the working support or fix it if it's not working.
[07:54:00] candc540: i think that fbansucks is now a mythtv-user finally now that his ivtv probs are sorted out
[07:54:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Eats disk space, but disk is cheap these days.
[07:54:00] sarahemm{SA}: *nods*
[07:55:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: I've not heard much about the 500+ivtv+MythTV. I have a 350, and the quality is outstanding.
[07:55:00] dmorrigan: 411270896 for my /video partition ... Yeah disk is cheap :-)
[07:55:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: But, Hauppague isn't the most supporting company for F/OSS...
[07:55:00] sarahemm{SA}: NightMonkey: cool :)
[07:55:00] sarahemm{SA}: i know.
[07:56:00] sarahemm{SA}: captioning support *did* work at one time tho, and it was then broken again in the code
[07:56:00] sarahemm{SA}: so i'm *fairly* confident i could fix it.
[07:56:00] sarahemm{SA}: of course, the -500 is like two -150s, and iirc it's never been working in the -150s...

[07:56:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Nasty, that. But, for me, MythTV (0.16 and 0.17), it's a no-go. I don't know why, since I can cat the VBI stream as I watch, and read it...
[07:57:00] dmorrigan: Will the mythfrontend run under SUSE?
[07:58:00] sarahemm{SA}: dmorrigan: no reason it shoudln't :)
[07:58:00] sarahemm{SA}: NightMonkey: ahh.... hrm.
[07:58:00] dmorrigan: sarahemm{SA}, WOOT! She has SUSE 9.2 on her box
[07:58:00] sarahemm{SA}: 0.17 works sortakinda with bttv cards and vbi data, it's slightly corrupt, but basically works
[07:58:00] NightMonkey: sarahemm{SA}: Could be a problem on my end, but everyting is By the Book.
[07:58:00] sarahemm{SA}: dmorrigan: any distro should work, within reason.
[07:59:00] rpete: vbi is closed captioning?
[07:59:00] sarahemm{SA}: vbi is where the closed captioning data is stored.
[07:59:00] rpete: just curious why people need it, other than deaf people of course
[07:59:00] sarahemm{SA}: it's the part of the picture that's not shown, basically. data is stored in it instead, like captions
[07:59:00] NightMonkey: rpete: Yeah. Sometimes other things (I think in Europe they've used it for data broadcasting).
[07:59:00] sarahemm{SA}: rpete: umm, people who are deaf or otherwise hard of hearing :)
[07:59:00] rpete: granted
[08:00:00] solar_angel: ya, sarahemm{SA} relies on CC pretty much

[08:01:00] sarahemm{SA}: it's enough for a little text, but if you had more than a few k of code it'd get painful i think...
[08:01:00] dmorrigan: BRB need to reboot to get the new kernel in
[08:02:00] NightMonkey: rpete: It's also useful if you're watching TV in a loud place, like an airport, bar, etc.

[09:57:00] topping: :)
[09:57:00] topping: it's the little stuff that means a lot sometimes
[09:58:00] topping: this really makes the system usable from desktop machines. i need to get the http streaming working, but i've been wondering how to do this for a while
[09:58:00] topping: (mostly just MIME types...)
[09:59:00] NightMonkey: topping: Check out mythstreamtv. Getting VLC working can be some work. It's over at sourceforge.
[09:59:00] topping: wow, ok
[09:59:00] fek: hi
[10:00:00] NightMonkey: http://mythstreamtv.sourceforge.net/
[10:01:00] NightMonkey: topping: If you can get SSL going, it's a real nice way to watch TV at work or school. ;)
[10:01:00] NightMonkey: topping: Oh, and htaccess, of course.
[10:02:00] NightMonkey: topping: It'll work without SSL, but then, the admins might more easily know what you're up to, and password sniffers can get crackers access to your streams...

[10:04:00] topping: yes, very good point
[10:04:00] topping: hehehe
[10:04:00] topping: very good point
[10:04:00] NightMonkey: topping: There's more than one way to do it...
[10:05:00] topping: sure, but you are definitely right about the whole "at friends house" thing
[10:05:00] NightMonkey: topping: There is some trouble getting a viewer to do both SSL and htdigest authentication. But I've got it working with WMP and even Quicktime, so it's doable.
[10:06:00] topping: NightMonkey: do you keep all your recordings in the same directory?
[10:06:00] NightMonkey: topping: Yep.
[10:06:00] NightMonkey: topping: On a LVM2 volume.
[10:06:00] topping: cool, i'll adjust links
[10:07:00] topping: the directories are kind of scattered about with the jarod install
[10:08:00] topping: having sql access to the configs is really coming in handy right now
[10:08:00] NightMonkey: topping: You must be a SQL wiz, eh?
[10:09:00] topping: so /var/lib/mythmusic and /var/lib/mythvideo are the same on your box?
[10:09:00] NightMonkey: topping: I still need to slog back through SQL in a Nutshell to do the most basic stuffs.
[10:09:00] topping: (yah, been doing sql for ten years now)

[10:10:00] NightMonkey: topping: Oh, no. Video is it's own dir, as is music (which is actually an NFS mount from another box).
[10:10:00] NightMonkey: topping: Ah, don't give up that SQL.
[10:10:00] topping: ok, so then video dvd and video program recordings in the same dir
[10:10:00] NightMonkey: topping: It's not going away anytime soon.

[10:10:00] NightMonkey: topping: No, seperate as well.

[10:11:00] topping: ok, then i guess i don't need to make any changes then
[10:11:00] NightMonkey: topping: Sorry, I have seperate dirs for seperate MythTV functions, as usual.
[10:11:00] NightMonkey: topping: I misunderstood you.
[10:11:00] topping: the php config would make it look better to combine them tho
[10:11:00] NightMonkey: topping: I thought you meant you had your recordings _in general_ scattered about.
[10:12:00] NightMonkey: topping: I don't think it's a good idea to mix dirs in Myth.
[10:12:00] topping: ah sorry
[10:12:00] topping: i'm happy to follow your lead with it
[10:12:00] NightMonkey: topping: But, you can put them all on one partition, of course.

[15:54:00] candc540: dunno just try 47 and if that don't work try 2
[15:54:00] candc540: just a simple rmmod ivtv
[15:54:00] candc540: then modprobe again
[15:55:00] candc540: and see what happens
[15:55:00] tazmaniac: ok, great! the firmware is btw extracted from the following cd
[15:55:00] candc540: ok
[15:55:00] candc540: do me a favor
[15:55:00] tazmaniac: shoot
[15:55:00] candc540: go to the ivtv/doc folder
[15:55:00] candc540: open the quickstart
[15:55:00] candc540: get your firmware files from there
[15:55:00] candc540: there's links in there
[15:55:00] tazmaniac: k
[15:56:00] candc540: also make sure you deleted the tuner.ko and tveeprom.ko from /lib/kernel_version/drivers................ blah blah blah
[15:56:00] candc540: those get replaced by ivtv
[15:56:00] opello: is there any way to 'remote control' mythtv from ssh or something? i've not gotten my wireless keyboard yet
[15:56:00] candc540: after that it should work
[15:56:00] candc540: dunno opello
[15:57:00] tazmaniac: candc540: thanx for your help! I'll try it right now
[15:57:00] flexy: candc540: have you build your kernel with those sources? that might be the problem...

[15:57:00] candc540: but will try the compile without installing and see if that works
[15:57:00] candc540: if not then i'll actually configure the kernel and compile it and install it
[15:57:00] candc540: just too lazy to do it right now
[15:58:00] dmorrigan: candc540, I am getting a Broken Packages message when trying to install mythtv-suite
[15:59:00] candc540: can't help you there
[15:59:00] candc540: i just installed from source
[15:59:00] candc540: did your video work though?
[15:59:00] flexy: candc540: cp /proc/config.gz /usr/src/linux/ ; gunzip /usr/src/linux/config.gz ; mv /usr/src/linux/config /usr/src/linux/.config
[15:59:00] candc540: flexy: works for debian?
[16:00:00] flexy: that might be the right thing to do, then compile, or just the necessary steps, don't know which...
[16:00:00] candc540: k i'll see if it works
[16:00:00] flexy: candc540: might work, dunno really, cause I've compiled my own kernels from day two
[16:00:00] candc540: but as i recall i think that's for other distros i think debian is the /boot/config way
[16:00:00] flexy: compiling kernels in debian is not so much trouble, using make-kpkg
[16:01:00] candc540: yeah really easy
[16:01:00] candc540: then just a dpkg -i kernel-image-xxx.deb
[16:01:00] candc540: even updates grub for ya
[16:01:00] flexy: candc540: yes, but /proc/config.gz (if present) is a sure way to get the right configs for the kernel running
[16:01:00] flexy: I know :)
[16:01:00] flexy: so, are you using precompiled kernel?
[16:01:00] flexy: seems not
[16:02:00] candc540: yeah was too lazy to compile the kernel on this box
[16:02:00] candc540: my laptop is running custom kernel but this machine is a new install so didn't bother with it
[16:02:00] flexy: ah, your first explaining about symlinks and configs should be enough
[16:03:00] flexy: candc540: then, if precompiled kernel, check for kernel sources and headers from a dpkg package
[16:03:00] candc540: yeah i installed em
[16:03:00] candc540: needed them to compile something else
[16:03:00] flexy: crap. cvs lirc sources?
[16:04:00] candc540: uh lirc-0.7.0
[16:04:00] flexy: the same with me
[16:04:00] flexy: odd, it seems :)

[21:03:00] jdrogers: you can put a module you want loaded into /etc/modules

[22:16:00] topping: Geckofiend: my problems are packaging

[22:17:00] topping: it's an order of magnitude more difficult to find interoperable versions of sw components for amd64
[22:18:00] Geckofiend: corect that would be why I said: your problems have everything to do with 64 nothing to do with AMD
[22:18:00] Geckofiend: the fact that it's an AMD cpu has jack all to do with your problems
[22:18:00] topping: i was trying to avoid a dissertation on why amd64 was a bad choice for this solution
[22:18:00] topping: and it has everything to do with it
[22:19:00] Geckofiend: so really the question is "which is better for MythtTV 32bit or 64bit" to which the answer would be: "at this time 32bit CPUs offer the path of least reisistance and there's pretty much no need for the extra HP offered by a 64bit CPU"
[22:20:00] topping: maybe that is your question, but it's not mine
[22:20:00] Geckofiend: topping are you really that fucking dense or do you think an Intel 64bit CPU would magicly work better?
[22:20:00] topping: amd_64 is an architecture you moron
[22:21:00] Geckofiend: ahhh yes. *I'm* the moron
[22:22:00] topping: dude, go change your tampons somewhere else
[22:22:00] Geckofiend: Here's an answer for you "yes the 8088 hits the sweet spot just right" now go the fuck away
[22:22:00] topping: ohhh
[22:22:00] topping: ok

[22:31:00] jdrogers: as I'm downloading and installing, whats the difference between mythweb and mythbrowser?
[22:32:00] Cromz: mythweb is a display for your mythtv.. like to schedule recordings and stuff.. mythbrowser is a web-browser for myth.
[22:32:00] Der_Ollie_: mythweb is a frontend to manage your recordings and music files via a web interface from everywhere.
[22:32:00] kormoc|afk: mythweb is the website interface to your mythtv, mythbrowser is a plugin that adds a webbrowser to mythfrontend.
[22:33:00] Der_Ollie_: That it's.
[22:33:00] jdrogers: ah
[22:33:00] Der_Ollie_: Obviously my environment is too new.
[22:34:00] Der_Ollie_: You mostly get into trouble when running new stuff on your machine.

[22:36:00] Geckofiend: Der_Ollie_ didn't you mention a backtrace?
[22:36:00] jdrogers: if all the problems I've had with dma and crashes/freezes/lockups all come down to a bad ide cable.. grrr
[22:36:00] Geckofiend: jdrogers heh it wouldn't be the first time I'v heard "bad cable" as the source of problems?
[22:37:00] Der_Ollie_: Not yet. Interpreting the messages of a backtrace seem to be the the highest art of error analysis.
[22:37:00] kormoc|afk: I donno, core dumps are rather fun too.
[22:38:00] Geckofiend: Der_Ollie_ nah backtraces are easy
[22:38:00] Der_Ollie_: Maybe for you.
[22:39:00] Geckofiend: make sure to recompile mythbrowser in debug mode and run it under gdb. then post the backtrace to the -dev list. one of us will take a look at it
[22:39:00] Dibblah: Do you have a BT?
[22:39:00] jdrogers: Geckofiend, indeed, but nothing had ever triggered error until myth.. I guess myth is a good stress test for the ide bus :-)

[22:43:00] Der_Ollie_: So the answer is yes.
[22:43:00] Der_Ollie_: It's a CVS-Outcheck from today.
[22:44:00] Der_Ollie_: So qmake make --debug make install ?
[22:44:00] Der_Ollie_: That's what you mean ?
[22:44:00] ** kormoc|afk blinks **

[23:21:00] Mrgoose: whats the problem?
[23:23:00] Kury: I have a Pinnacle systems remote & receiver... but I would like to be able to use my universal remote control insted because I have found that the pinnacle remote is a joke (as far as its button layout)
[23:23:00] Kury: but every time I try and do irrecord it detects half the buttons as some other button..
[23:23:00] Kury: it ends up thinking I have 3 vol+, 2 #4, 5 power buttons, etc...
[23:25:00] Kury: Anyone have any ideas?
[23:27:00] catisonh: I think you have to match the long stream of numbers that irw spits out as the button in lircrc
[23:27:00] catisonh: that is totally just a guess though
[23:28:00] Kury: what is lircrc?
[23:28:00] Kury: the rc part?
[23:28:00] sarahemm{SA}: it's the configuration file for lirc
[23:28:00] catisonh: its the file that specifies which button does what
[23:28:00] Kury: ... humm mine is lircd.conf
[23:28:00] catisonh: it should be at ~/.lircrc

[23:29:00] Mrgoose: any idea why i can use MPEG-VCR to cut the commercials from a recoridng. And the resulting mpg is perfectly in sync. BUt when I convert it to dvd its out of sync?
[23:29:00] Kury: ya... it works w/ the pinnacle remote & config I made...
[23:29:00] catisonh: but you want to use the universal remote?
[23:29:00] Kury: but when I try and configure it with another remote it goes to wack...
[23:29:00] catisonh: is your universal remote learning?
[23:29:00] Kury: ya
[23:29:00] Kury: no
[23:30:00] catisonh: ok, well, you can't just use another remote and expect lirc to know its the same
[23:30:00] Kury: but it has a gazillion brand codes in it...
[23:30:00] catisonh: you have to reconfigure for your new remote
[23:30:00] Kury: can't I reconfigure the signals though?
[23:30:00] catisonh: and to do that you have to use irw to see what lirc is picking up

[23:30:00] catisonh: as the "button"
[23:31:00] Kury: irw doesn't print anything except whats in the config file...
[23:31:00] ILikeLinux: is there a way to get mythtv to use esd?
[23:31:00] Kury: is there a raw mode to irw?
[23:31:00] catisonh: well, when I do it, it spits a whole bunch of numbers back first and then a button name and the the type of remote
[23:31:00] catisonh: I am guessing you want that series of numbers in the beginning
[23:32:00] Kury: yes... but it only spits out things that it knows what they are...
[23:32:00] catisonh: well, I don't know how to configure it then
[23:32:00] Kury: take a line out of your config file for the power button persay... and then restart lircd & try running irw...
[23:33:00] Kury: irw won't report that you ever press the power button from then on...
[23:33:00] Kury: any idea who I could talk to or where I could go for answers?
[23:33:00] catisonh: hmm, well, you'll have to figure out how to get lirc to recognize your new remote
