[19:31:42] gigem_ is now known as gigem
[19:40:56] gigem: I'd like some sports recordings to default to a fixed length, say 5 hours, to account for games running long. This is not exactly doable with existing templates as the scheduled length of games tends to vary by network and sometimes other programming and templates only allow setting end-late. I know, it's not a big deal but this is mythtv — it should do what I want! :) I have not problem making
[19:40:58] gigem: a change for personal use only, and in fact, already have. I'm wondering is there's enough interest in making this a general feature, and if so, how. For general use, I don't want to add yet another, recording, rule setting so might abuse the existing end-late setting in the following way. If negative (i.e. the unlikely? end early case) or sufficiently negative (say < -60), treat the inverted
[19:41:00] gigem: amount as the desired total recording time. For eaxmple, if the game is scheduled for 3:30 in the guide and end-late is -300, automatically initialize record late to 90 to cause a recordihng of 5:00. Note this change would only be for templates. Normal recording rules would be have normally.

[20:14:42] hampton: If you're recording American football (it is that time of year) check out the "extend recording" option near the bottom of the "schedule options" page.
[20:20:14] stuarta: isn't that what recording profiles are for?
[20:20:20] stuarta: evening btw

[20:32:09] hampton: afternoon
[20:32:14] gigem: hampton: Mostly college football but it applies to others too. I don't use the extend recording feature for a couple of reasons. One, I haven't used it and therefore don't trust it (no offense). Two (and more importantly), if you know how long the recording is, you essentially know how long the game is and can sometimes deduce the ending the closer you get to it.
[20:33:53] gigem: stuarta: No. Profiles are an (mostly) archaic mechanism for specifying quality parameters for analog recordings — bit reate, resolution, etc. Are you sure you're not thinkging of recording, rule templates?
[20:34:46] stuarta: it's been so long since i used it, perhaps it was playback setting. i used to default NFL to 1.25x speed by default
[20:35:47] gigem: You're probably thinking of playgroups. I watch some sports at 1.5x and a few even at 1.75x.
[20:41:45] hampton: gigem: No offense. I use it all the time, and it does work for college football too. Using the extender the recording should stop between 0–10 minutes after the game is over, so you would know how long the game is.
[20:42:13] gigem: hampton: Here's the background. Since I have a *ton* of tuners (physical and IPTV), I record a ton of college games in hopes of catching some good ones. In previous years, I would meticulously go through each channel and adjust the end-late settings to minimally overlap with succeeding games or other programs that I also also recording. It was tedious and every time I would tell myself I should
[20:42:15] gigem: really do somehing better and easier. I finally did. I know I could just blindly set end-late to 120 minutes as games are almost always scheduled for at least 3 hours. I might still do that. We'll see. This upcoming weekend will be the first test.
