[02:11:20] | gigem: | I'll look into it. I have mythtv prompt me at end of playback so I don't see any change. :) |
[02:15:10] | gigem: | I have another change which intentionally drops every other frame when the synthesized, frame interval is less than the display, refresh rate. Think of as a sort of 1/2x deinterlacer. It serves the same purpose as using a 1x deinterlacer even when a 2x one is available. That is to lower the frame rate and produce smoother playback at speeds greater than 1x. |
[02:15:45] | gigem: | Question 1. Should this be a setting that users can enable and disable. Question 1a. What should the default be? |
[02:19:10] | gigem: | Question 2. Where should the dropping be done? I currently have it in AVSync which is where frames are already dropped for timeing reasons. The other likely places to do it are ini the decoder or right after the decoder. The latter has the advantage of keep more video buffers free by discarding them earlier. It has the huge disadvantage of really complicating the counting of played frames. |

[03:43:55] | ulmus-scott: | gigem: re Q2: Without looking at the code, it sounds like a timing reason (i.e. a new frame is decoded before the previous frame was presented?) so it makes sense to me to keep it with the other code that drops frames for timing reasons. |

[16:53:13] | gigem: | The reason for Q1 is that at low, timestretch speeds, it's arguable the existing behavior is adequate or even slightly better. I've tried tweaking the existing AVSync to drop frames more predictably like the old, frame skipping used to but haven't succeeded yet. |

[19:53:22] | cbovy: | i have tested on ethernet and wifi, and both have issues. So I was thinking about rebuilding with new Qt. |

[19:54:28] | peterbennett: | it is random that you crash? |
[19:55:00] | cbovy: | well, it crashes within 20 mins, so I can easily reproduce. But it seems random, but occassional. |
