[10:32:43] warpme_: hampton: you mention "I am comfortable with code cleanup and GUI work and can figure out a lot of the other stuff". This sounds perfect!. If you will ask me for new functionality much welcomed by me and minimyt2 users i would say: 1\#12809. I have this since long time in mm2 and users are really liked it. Why: it is nice when you are watching in multiple short sessions multiple shows. it gives you hint how you are
[10:32:43] ** MythLogBot https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12809 **
[10:32:44] warpme_: "advanced" in watching at selection. see http://warped.inet2.org/12809.jpg (see % and thin progress bars on some rec.); 2\scheduling rec. with multiple templates. I have 4 users of mythtv with dedicated reg.group each. It will be nice to have possibility schedule for different users. Ideally: when user is in EPG and press rec. – and if there is more than 1 rec.template defined – user gets popup dialog with list of
[10:32:44] warpme_: templates to select: what template to use to create recording rule for this recording. Adding just 2 such features will make fe even more unique over other players :-)

[10:46:44] warpme_: sure. in context #12809 – i think it is worth to do this if there will be willingness to work (=reopen) on it (as on trac it has currently status "closed")
[10:46:44] ** MythLogBot https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12809 **

[14:29:26] peterbennett: gigem: Re seek time – I transcode shows to mkv using HandBrake and remove the seek table for the recording. Watching such a show yesterday with leanfront, Shield, Ethernet connected, jumps were instantaneous, I could not discern any wait time. The longer wait times seem to be with wifi and fire stick and possibly non-transcoded files.
[14:30:29] peterbennett: gigem: I did not try a file converted ti mkv without transcode, but maybe that will also give instant jumps.
[14:30:57] stuarta: interesting
[14:33:56] peterbennett: Actually surprising to me how well it works, since it is using the http file download service to get the data. The backend built in web server is very good.
[14:43:31] stuarta: i wonder how different or how much in common mkv format has with broadcast formats
[14:44:16] stuarta: iirc it's a container format rather than an encoding format
[14:51:20] stuarta: peterbennett: re the backend built in web server, the new one mark wrote is even faster than the old one
[14:55:23] stuarta: interesting also, from the matroska faq, under "how can i create Matroska files?" -> "You can also 'transmux' an existing AVI, MP4 or TS file. This option is a lossless process, all the audio and video data in the source file will be read from it, and packed into a matroska file in a spec compliant way, but basically stay unaltered to avoid any degradation of quality. "
[14:55:40] stuarta: which is probably what handbrake is doing for you

[18:27:14] paul-h: If the EPG data comes from EIT where does the ProgramID come from do we make one up?
[18:28:59] paul-h: There is an associated issue for it as well https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/issues/332
[18:39:21] hampton: Looks like the programID comes from the various mpeg descriptors in the eit data.
[18:41:21] RokLobsta (RokLobsta!~Dirkka@2001:8004:5130:52f:8d26:ec96:3c95:ddb3) has joined #mythtv
[19:03:34] stuarta: they should do iirc
[19:03:54] stuarta: although, also iirc, the data can be empty
[19:07:39] stuarta: paul-h: that ticket requests the opposite of what program id's are meant todo
[19:09:26] stuarta: but as the ticket says, it would have to be an option to ignore programid's
[19:13:35] paul-h: yep I seem to remember someone, probably gigem, saying if a program has a ProgramID then you have to assume they are correct which is probably true for schedules from SD but it appears not for some or all EIT data?
[19:16:04] stuarta: EIT data unfortunately seem to depend on who puts the data into the backend system
[19:16:42] stuarta: writing the fixups is such a pain because even the same program can be put in different ways, and this is just the title/description
[19:17:15] stuarta: no subtitle in EIT data, hence fixups
[19:18:23] stuarta: also as the different channels are run by different people, then you get different backend sources for the guide data

[19:19:58] stuarta: :-p
[19:20:57] paul-h: Ha!Ha!
[19:21:15] stuarta: why do you think i started writing fixups in the first place?
[19:23:07] paul-h: With no coupons available I might actually have to buy my subscription this time \0/
[19:23:54] stuarta: one of the SD admins can normally generate a few more for devs
[19:27:48] paul-h: Yeah might have to poke one of them with a stick
[19:31:30] paul-h: Pity we can't use the same series record data the likes of Sky and the Freeview boxes use they seem to get right more often than not even for delayed or postponed shows
[19:31:57] paul-h: At least for the main channel
[19:32:37] stuarta: but then we should have the same data available as the freeview boxes
[19:32:48] stuarta: sky stuff has it's own layered EPG and data
[19:33:37] stuarta: also freeview and freesat more often than not have different programids and seriesids
[19:33:46] stuarta: even for the same program!
