[00:38:34] enyc: jpabq: FIOS is still legacy internet only?
[00:39:29] jpabq: enyc I am not sure what you mean by "legacy". gigem has FIOS, so he would be a better person to ask.
[00:40:12] enyc: i was in scrollback land ;p
[00:40:31] enyc: somebody on ony of my telnet-talkers, only seems ot get legacy internet, no IPv6 working at all
[00:40:37] enyc: with 'fios'
[00:41:04] jpabq: Oh, IPv4 vs. IPv6. Got it.
[00:43:20] hampton: My fios router does have ipv6 support under advanced settings. Its off by default. I've never tried turning it on.

[08:54:09] markk_: any mac experts around? who know whether we still need to link to QuickTime library. Not sure it's actually available anymore. So far have built on highsierra with the dependency removed but haven't been able to run yet as need to build qt from source to get mysql plugin.
[08:57:46] stuarta: jya: that's probably you ^^^
[08:58:33] stuarta: markk_: from what i remember when i last looked at it (like at least 5 years ago) we were using a large amount of obsolete interfaces
[09:00:11] markk_: stuarta: actually, the frontend ran without quicktime – it just bailed when it couldn't find the mysql plugin. so probably safe to say it isn't need anymore.
[09:00:23] stuarta: \o/
[09:01:03] stuarta: i'd check Qt from macports
[09:01:19] stuarta: see if that has the bits in order to avoid a Qt compile
[09:01:36] stuarta: pvrme when he is around, runs macports
[09:02:21] markk_: stuarta: i'm using brew – and they removed the mysql plugin a while ago. trying a brew compile from source with the added options but it just seems to be sitting there doing nothing:(
[09:03:06] markk_: we need to remove webkit... becoming a pain.
[09:10:59] stuarta: why would brew remove the mysql plugin?
[09:13:37] markk_: stuarta: looks like it was a rarely used option – so they made their lives easier

[20:54:46] peterbennett: markspieth2: I am now dividing fixamount by 15 -
[20:55:46] peterbennett: markspieth2: I found sometimes the amount it was out was 2000 ms, but by adding the audio reset in the correct place, that no longer happens
[20:56:40] peterbennett: There was an audio reset in teh code before but it was in the wrong place and did not also rest the adjustment, so it was causing strange things to happen
[20:57:17] markspieth2: peterbennett: Also note when you change timestretch the amount of audio indicated in the buffer is wrong until the stale old rate audio is played. This depends on the audio buffer length and the rate change amount

[20:58:45] peterbennett: markspieth2: The problem with constraining the adjustment to 90 – previously it was constrained to 40 and that caused the slow catch-up, so 90 would be a faster catchup but maybe not fast enough
[20:59:24] peterbennett: actu8ally no – it was constrianed to 10 or whetever you set in the settings
[21:00:36] peterbennett: markspieth2: Anyway – let me know how it works out and if you have any additional changes which may help.
[21:03:12] markspieth2: peterbennett: no previously your patch had a lower bound not an upper one. And still does.
[21:03:49] markspieth2: peterbennett: will let you know tomorrow after a night of watching.
[21:08:04] peterbennett: markspieth2: Sorry what I meant was there was an upper bound of 10 in the code before any of these patches.
[21:19:40] markspieth2: peterbennett: I could have sworn in my reading that rtcbase adjustment is not upper bounded. Will check again.

[21:45:34] gigem: peterbennett: You're not my hero after all! I forgot my x2go session falls back to xv for video. My webcam test confirmed the problem is still there when opengl is used. You've still got a chance to reclaim the title, though, if the avsync change works better! :)
[21:46:25] peterbennett: gigem: I only fixed it for xvideo.
[21:46:45] peterbennett: gigem: Are you saying the OSD does not work with OpenGL?
[21:48:20] peterbennett: gigem: OSD works for me with OpenGL
[21:51:05] peterbennett: gigem: I use xrdp for remote access – OpenGL works there
[21:51:52] gigem: With opengl videoout, ASS subtitles do not display when playback is paused. They then unhide as soon as playback is resumed. This doesn't happen with vxideo and vdpau videoout. It also doesn't happen with closed caption subtitles.
[21:53:11] peterbennett: oh that issue
[21:53:52] gigem: I'll check out xrdp. I've used x2go for years because it's so fast. As I mentioned last week, it's even fast enough with xvideo to do basic, remote testing that requires playback.
[21:55:25] jpabq: gcc occationaly gives some very unhelpful error messages which don't seem to match reality.
[21:55:29] gigem: Yes, that issue. It's the last remaining one keeping me from transcoding many movies. The subtitles are important to me because I'm using the Spanish ones to help improve my listening skills.
[21:56:17] peterbennett: What sort of videos will have libass subtitles? Are those on recordings?
[21:57:07] peterbennett: My recordings only have cc
[21:58:02] peterbennett: OK transcoded recordings seem to be affected
[21:58:51] peterbennett: The subtitle vanishes as soon as you hit pause.
[21:59:44] peterbennett: I will create a ticket to remind myself
[22:00:37] gigem: The ones I'm creating during transcoding with ffmpeg/handbrake because they butcher the primary language captions and completely drop the secondary language captions. I have to extract the captions separately and then add them back as ASS subtitles during transcoding.

[22:01:43] peterbennett: gigem: My transcoded recordings also seem to be affected.
[22:01:51] gigem: peterbennett: My best, current guess is something osd-related is not being done when the pause frame is displayed.
[22:03:37] peterbennett: I will look into it – #13402
[22:03:37] ** MythLogBot https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13402 **
[22:05:19] peterbennett: gigem: So do you look for English subtitles on Spanish programs or Spanish subtitles on English programs?
[22:07:39] gigem: English programs with Spanish, secondary audio and Spanish, secondary subtitles. The pause problem isn't language specific, though. It happens with all ASS subtitles.
[22:09:33] peterbennett: I was just curious.
[22:11:16] gigem: No problem. I can read and write Spanish fairly well (for my level of vocabulary). I'm trying to improve my listening skills of native speakers. If can't understand the audio, I can turn on the subtitles to see what they are saying.
[22:11:32] dragonian: gigem: this is back to the coveration from last week, but it should be straightforward to save all subtitles when transcoding.
[22:13:09] peterbennett: I see it happens for opengl as well as xvideo and for different themes so it must be something basic that is wrong
[22:13:21] gigem: dragonian: The input doesn't have proper subtitles. It has ATSC closed captions embedded in the video track. As I noted, both ffmpeg and handbrake butcher and/or drop the ATSC captions.
[22:13:26] dragonian: i use either raw h234 or ffmpeg with h265 to transcode the video separately.. then use mkvmerge to remux the video , audio & subtiles
[22:13:50] dragonian: ah, got it
[22:14:14] dragonian: whereas I'm doing this with my blurays
[22:15:00] dragonian: i found handbrake to do horrible things to chapters.. that was the straw that killed it for me
[22:15:02] gigem: Mine ar TV recordings.

[22:31:06] gigem: dragonian, peterbennett: One other thing regarding the closed captions and ffmpeg. Aman Gupta has a patch to fix the butchering of the primary captions but the other ffmpeg developers haven't accepted it despite my report that it fixes a real world problem. The secondary captions are a bigger problem as it requires additional parsing and functionality be added to ffmpeg.
[22:33:34] dragonian: what are you using to extract the CC now?

[22:44:27] gigem: Note the butchering probably only happens on cable. It probably doesn't happen on OTA recordings. Specifically, it's the presence of SCTE-20 with captions that ffmpeg gets wrong.
