[00:01:57] gigem: peterbennett: Re. previously recorded. The recordings display fine in local time and in the right month "bucket" as they should. The problem is there is an extra, empty bucket for the future month for a few hours. I suspect the problem is the code which enumerates the buckets does so in UTC instead of in local time. If you don't want to look into it, I will. I just figured since you made those changes,
[00:01:58] gigem: you might want to look first.
[00:03:03] gigem: markspieth: Re opengl deinterlacers, I'm pretty sure glstreamer has one for greedy high-motion. I don't know if it's 2x or not.
[00:06:50] gigem: Re. 5.1 audio. Does anyone know of a setup that's reasonably priced with discreet front speakers and wireless rear speakers and maybe even a wireless sub-woofer? I think Vizio has a system with wireless rears but IIRC, it's a soundbar not discreet speakers.

[08:29:01] markk_: markspieth: as peterbennett said = opengl is what used to be YUV/UYVY. YV12 is unchanged. I'm not aware of any issues with the deints – though I have't been using master for a month or so.
[08:30:55] markk_: warpme : finally rebuilt render branch on my pi zero. everything is working ok. a small issue with screen repainting when exiting from video playback – but otherwise fine.
[08:35:06] markk_: pi zero is taking far too much cpu rendering a static screen. 10% for a simple screen – up to 30% for more complicated pages. not an opengl issue (it's not repainting) – this is purely deciding whether the screen needs updating
[08:52:15] markspieth: markk_: I swapped between hwgl linear blend x1 and standard linear blend x1. For both SD and HD they look markedly different. For HWGL version it looks works than onefield.
[08:53:17] markspieth: We used to have YV12 problems on shield so peter disabled YV12 in setup and forced YUV (esp since it has better chroma info).
[08:53:28] markspieth: s/works/worse/
[08:57:47] willcooke (willcooke!~willcooke@ubuntu/member/willcooke) has joined #mythtv
[08:59:23] markk_: markspieth: I'll have a test. in the render branch YV12 and OpenGL (YUV) have the same chroma issues (I removed the silly chroma sampling from the YV12 shaders) – and in most simple cases YV12 is now probably faster. I've switched to using a texture for each YUV plance for yv12 – better sampling and less dependent texturing.
[09:01:35] markspieth: Im still using master of course. I pause frames to see how the deinterlace is doing and this is how I picked it up initially. I originally thought becuase 0,0 was bottom left and the image was flipped that even/odd lines ere swapped. But not sure about this anymore.
[09:07:54] markk_: markspieth: if the y coordinates were inverted you'd see very obvious problems
[09:09:20] markk_: markspieth: are you changing deinterlacers on the fly (from the osd menu) – if so, I think there are issues with that at the moment – certainly with switching between software and hardware based deints
[09:09:22] markspieth: markk_: Thats what I thought I was seeing. I got rid of the alt chroma in SAMPLEYVU and it looksed better. I swapped >= to < and vice versa and it looked better. This was a while ago of course.
[09:10:09] markspieth: markk_: No I stop the video, go to settings change deints and then start teh video again and press pause before it starts playing. get the same frame every time
[09:11:06] markspieth: These are standard 720x576@25i and 1920x1080@25i and also 1440x1080@25i (we get all variants here)
[09:11:58] markspieth: There were also some US 480@30i videos from gigem which exhibited similar issues.
[09:12:32] markk_: argh – linear blend software deint is really messed up in the render branch:(
[09:12:34] markspieth: I especially look at channel logos since they dont move for quality

[15:04:26] markk_: markspieth: so linear blend is definitely a little 'harsher' than it should be:) there are some big differences between the cpu/gpu versions. a 'traditional' blend is weighted 1:2:1 (above, current, below) – gl version is using 1:0:1 – but only for the field that is not current. This works well for double rate. cpu filter is I think using some sort of adaptive blending – though I cannot figure out what:) It's good at filtering
[15:04:27] markk_: out combing and operates over the entire frame (not just deinterlacing the non-current field). It also offsets the entire frame by 1 which I don't like:)
[15:06:45] markk_: If I change to a 1:2:1 blend, it is much easier on the eye but does not remove all combing artefacts. I'm experimenting with something a bit more adaptive. May also be worth having a dedicated single rate deinterlacer that deinterlaces the full frame.
[15:07:42] stuarta: deinterlacing seems to be an art form

It was changed several years ago to only have a small number of rules types for the most common cases in order to simplify things. The more obscure rule types and options were moved to filters and custom rules where advanced users could still use them if they wanted to.

[19:37:45] gigem: peterbennett: What is the mkv editor that you use on your transcoded recordings?
[19:39:44] gigem: jpabq: I haven't been able to reproduce the hang on long pause problem. Consequently, I can tell if your patch fixes it.
[19:45:45] peterbennett: gigem: I do not do much editing. Occasionally I use mkvmerge to remove parts of videos not wanted. That is by finding the time ranges and using command line mkvmerge to combine them.
[19:53:52] gigem: peterbennett: Thanks. I thought you'd mentioned but I couldn't remember the name. I mainly want to cut off non-show part at the beginning and end. I had planned to mark in MythtV, then lossless, mpeg2 transcode and then transcode to x264/5 but that's too tedious and also had an issue. I think I'm just going transcode to x264/5 now and chop off the ends whenever I get around to it.
[20:00:51] stuarta: gigem: you could just write the code for lossless h264/h265 transcoding??? :-p

[20:03:02] hampton: signed or unsigned?
[20:04:55] jpabq: gigem: that is why it took so long for me to track down. There is obviously some 'external' event which /sometimes/ keeps the connection open. I have been able to reproduce it with the patch, in that the logging messesages get triggered, which makes me believe the patch works.
[20:05:50] gigem: hampton: Signed. Hey, now i have negative entries. I'm free, I'm free! :)

[21:33:29] gigem: peterbennett: Are you sure that's what he's asking? I'm not. That's why I asked for clarification. If there is identifiable, episode information, he/she doesn't need a find rule at all. Just use a record all rule. Find daily and weekly rules are really only needed when there isn't identifiable information and some other use cases of dubious value.
[21:34:28] gigem: jpabq: The time filters are fuzzy (about +/- 10 minutes, I think). No episodes means not a series. It should possibly be renamed.
[21:34:55] peterbennett: gigem: I think the common use for that may be to record a news broadcast once per day for example
