[03:56:44] dragonia_: i don't love handbrake for transcode either.. it "tries to be smart" and messes with too many things
[03:57:09] dragonia_: i prefer straight ffmpeg w/ h265
[03:57:44] dragonia_: speaking of h265.. what was the reason that vdpau is now not supporting h265?

[05:15:37] gigem: I'm using HandBrakeCLI and only diverging from defaults when needed. It's somewhat tedious but not near as tedious as using ffmpeg directly.
[05:18:35] dragonia_: i have a script preconfigured, so it's pretty fire and forget.. but i'm really only taking a 1080p bluray, transocding the video, copy the audio, and subtiles
[05:42:49] gigem: My case is complicated by the fact that I want to preserve the primary language and secondary language closed captions. Neither ffmpeg nor handbrake can do that correctly with my recordings.

[16:37:43] markk_: peterbennett: did FFmpeg reinstate VDPAU HEVC?

[16:46:27] markk_: peterbennett: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_i . . . bles-HEVC-NV
[16:49:54] peterbennett: markk_: I guess it must be true then. I can give it a try, it says it needs driver version 410. Currently I am on 396 which is the lowest level for NVDEC
[16:50:37] markk_: I'm on 340 :(
[16:52:46] stuarta: the release mad phoronix at least
[16:52:48] peterbennett: ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa has the later ones for Ubuntu,
[16:53:12] stuarta: and if you are on fedora, i recommend the negativo repositories
[16:54:21] kwizart: stuarta, why the full hell such scam repo ?
[16:55:03] stuarta: kwizart: i find it a nice clean packaging of nvidia drivers
[16:55:09] peterbennett: I guess I need a wiki page to explain that you need at least 396 for NVDEC
[16:55:26] stuarta: peterbennett: do we have a top level NVDEC page?
[16:55:32] kwizart: stuarta, this is not the case, they are very bad packaging, and it's only a bad copy of rpmfusion
[16:55:49] kwizart: there are several terrible miss take in his packaging
[16:55:57] peterbennett: The latest Nvidia drivers show as open source, they used to say proprietary
[16:57:48] stuarta: kwizart: i like rpmfusion, but for a reason i can no longer remember i got on better with that nvidia packaging
[16:58:07] kwizart: stuarta, many improvements are designed by RPM Fusion (aka me)
[16:58:34] stuarta: point taken
[16:58:34] kwizart: specially the nvidia fallback is an idea from hansg, but implemented by me
[16:59:21] stuarta: kwizart: well i shall try them again, when i don't have 4000 other things on the urgent todo list :(
[17:00:27] peterbennett: https://www.geforce.com/drivers
[17:00:28] stuarta: kwizart: i assume you also do akmods for the kernel modules?
[17:01:25] kwizart: yep, still few thing to improve in this area, current topic are secureboot and ostree distro support

[17:19:08] dragonian: so i guess thats the 5% that I never checked out the logs
[17:19:38] dragonian: obviously going forward nvdec is the way to go
