[15:03:21] stuarta: jpabq: it's entirely possible it's the controller
[15:05:12] stuarta: or, from reading up on it, the way linux does power management with nvme drives
[15:05:39] stuarta: which is also consistent with, i've had it not recover after a suspend / resume cycle on the laptop
[15:41:29] enyc: stuarta: testing building with the DEBIAN_SUFFIX hack, given what you said it will build but may still have help2man error near end
[16:54:23] jpabq: hampton: It looks like `/bin/systemctl kill mythbackend.service --signal=HUP --kill-who=main` is now ACTUALLY KILLING mythbackend, instead of opening a new log file. I use that in my log rotation.
[17:16:11] hampton: I think I know what happened. I'll put it on the top of my list.

[17:57:20] hampton: jpabq: Just committed a fix.
[17:58:17] enyc: hrrm
[17:58:36] enyc: investigating bmy "was working" experimental mythtv, now needs re-tuning, etc etc... various thintgs that "used to work" have broken
[17:58:51] enyc: connecitons from network no longer work reliable, e.g.
[17:58:52] enyc: ext.cpp:1275 (CheckSubnet) MythCoreContext::CheckSubnet(): Repeat denied connection from ip address: 2001:8b0:c1:2::22
[17:59:12] enyc: backend is on a different /64 but this used to work
[17:59:43] enyc: I can connect a frontend from another machine, but now you get file-not-found type errors playing existing recordings, which used to work ...
[18:00:09] enyc: also... last i tried to run mythtv-setup locally it chokes trying to stop the backend, then fails and stuff
[18:00:13] enyc: =)

[18:04:51] enyc: fairly-sure it was all working under 0.29 and has been updated to lasted mythfixes 0.29 ... may well have been 0.28 at some point
[18:08:12] enyc: any ideas 'where to start' sorting it out? additional subnet checks been introduced which weren't there previously? etc etc...?
[18:25:17] enyc: Aaah yes found "Allow Connections from all Subnets" in wiki... but this is only any good if i can get into setup!

[19:47:54] gigem: jpabq: What's special about 13?
[19:51:43] gigem: jpabq: Move bottom line? But my thumb is already conditioned to press menu down right down down right up up up up up up up up enter! How will I ever unlearn that? :)
[20:10:14] gigem: jpabq: I curse your 13! Now I have to redo my own patch to set them back to 2.5, 3.5 and 10 as God intended! I still feel those first two should be settings. The latter should stay on until dismissed as was proposed long ago. Would 0 work for that? If so, make it the default setting too.
[20:10:17] gigem: :)

[20:49:32] peterbennett: enyc: Is there some bug with the subnet checking?
[20:51:13] peterbennett: gigem: jpabq: I wish I understood the issue with 13 thumbs and cursed patches. What is that all about?
[21:02:29] enyc: peterbennett: i suspect not, i suspcet i just need that "allow other subnets" turned on
[21:02:37] enyc: peterbennett: except, last i checked mythtv-setup wasn't rworking
[21:02:48] enyc: peterbennett: i go try it now and report back with log/info ...
[21:05:54] enyc: hrrm local frontend keeps creashing and not running
[21:06:05] enyc: exit code 139 and restarting and all that
[21:07:22] enyc: whereas i can run frontend over network from debian system, so confused here!
[21:09:24] enyc: Starting HouseKeeper.

[21:09:40] enyc: Segfault ... core dumped etc...
[21:12:45] peterbennett: There have been many changes in the last few days, perhaps something broken.
[21:14:17] enyc: peterbennett: http://anna.enyc.org.uk:6580/mythfrontend-crash-log.txt
[21:14:43] enyc: this is fixes/0.29
[21:14:53] enyc: on a system that used to work, before upgrading 0.29 etc etc
[21:16:03] enyc: I'm probably a good example of things that will go wrong for others who haven't done constant maintenance =)
[21:19:57] jpabq: gigem: I would be fine with making that OSD timeout a setting. I am an average reader in regards to speed, but those OSDs seem to fade out just a little too quickly.
[21:22:43] jpabq: gigem: For me, the BottomLine was up, up, up, up, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8
[21:23:33] jpabq: hampton: thanks.
[21:52:01] peterbennett: enyc: Does mythtv-seup work? You should run that first and make sure the backend settings are ok.
[21:58:36] enyc: i've not changed backend setting
[21:58:46] enyc: and mythfrontend compiled on debian, works from onather machine more-ro-less
[21:58:57] enyc: still, will try setup now
[22:00:17] enyc: mythtv-setup closes it lsely o something, and gets back to wolud you like to run mythfilldatabase?
[22:00:25] enyc: i note on terminal complaint about gksu: not found
[22:08:56] gigem: peterbennett: 13 the number of seconds that jpabq changed the long, OSD timeout to be. See commit d997e8f8.

[22:11:42] peterbennett: gigem: Hmm I thought there was an even longer timeout available
[22:12:28] peterbennett: I use a long timeout for the osd nav and I thought it was more than 10 sec...
[22:12:34] enyc: peterbennett: replyied about segfailting on the #mythtv-users channel
[22:12:40] enyc: err about setup

[22:23:15] gigem: peterbennett: There are 3 timeouts, short medium and long. I'd be happy with one timeout for things that should timeout relatively quickly (short/medium) with with everything else remaining on screen until dismissed. The latter would include things like the OSD navigation and full, program description. Again, though, if a timeout is used, it should be configurable. Too many people have too differing
[22:23:17] gigem: opinions on what it should be.
