[08:39:43] stuarta: so we need to rewrite the ttvdb grabber to use the ubuntu 16.04 versions of the python code
[09:47:03] gregl (gregl!~greg@cpe-66-67-122-101.nycap.res.rr.com) has quit (Quit: Leaving)
[09:48:11] markspieth: It seems there is an unwillingness to change. I'll look into it.
[09:48:52] stuarta: markspieth: it's not that, it's pretty much against the rules to use pip to pull in bits you need for a package, when building for ubuntu
[09:48:52] markspieth: Are there any other backward distros which need to be catered for? And if so what are their versions for the packages in question
[09:49:14] markspieth: I know there are ppas with updated python packages
[09:49:14] stuarta: markspieth: our "line in the sand" so to speak is the latest ubuntu lts = 16.04
[09:49:28] markspieth: Understand.
[09:49:36] markspieth: like I said Ill see what I can do
[09:49:44] stuarta: ubuntu accounts for ~85% of our userbase
[09:49:51] stuarta: markspieth: appreciated
[09:50:09] markspieth: no worries
[09:50:33] stuarta: we've now aligned our release schedules so we hit the next LTS release with a .1 release
[09:51:00] stuarta: that way the early adopters can identify issues before they get included in the lts
[10:25:41] markspieth: what version of python-mysqldb does ubuntu 16.04 have? I think its 1.3.7
[10:25:57] markspieth: does it also have python-oursql installed by default?
[10:26:28] markspieth: I cant find mysqldb in pip for that or any version.
[10:26:36] markspieth: setting up a verualenv for testing
[10:26:42] markspieth: virtualenv
[10:26:43] stuarta: lemme check
[10:28:03] stuarta: Version: 1.3.7–1build2
[10:29:08] markspieth: Thats what I thought. What about oursql and is it installed by default? probably not I would expect
[10:29:35] stuarta: i wouldn't have expected the python-mysqldb library version to cause an issue
[10:30:09] stuarta: looking at the trac ticket, it's mainly the python-requests-cache isn't it?
[10:31:22] stuarta: fyi, my main system is Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, so it's pretty easy to test
[10:32:24] markspieth: virtualenv cant find it for some reason.
[10:32:31] markspieth: so I need to be specific.
[10:32:42] markspieth: probably take me longer to set this up than fix
[10:32:47] markspieth: :-)
[10:32:54] markspieth: tv watching time
[10:34:31] stuarta: hah, i have things already setup, anything i can help with?
[10:34:50] stuarta: what's it using python-requests-cache for?

[15:28:01] gary_buhrmaster: (sorry, I think there will be a "build failed" message here in a few hours (first builds are slow)) the (pre-beta) F27 buildbot has been started, but plugins will likely fail to compile (ref #13093)
[15:28:01] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13093 **
[15:28:20] stuarta: we can live with that

[15:31:05] markspieth: I have just pushed up a compatability fix. please test. works for me in virtualenv with the versions for the 3 modules listed
[15:32:07] markspieth: gary_buhrmaster: thanks for the review. The python3 port for the rest is in a commit all by itself so can be easily removed.
[15:32:15] markspieth: bed time
[15:33:42] stuarta: hmm, i clearly need to setup something to get ttvdb to work. like a config file or something
[15:39:30] gary_buhrmaster: I really hate it when good intentions go down a rabbit hole (I "completed" the libhdhomerun patches, and then found setup was not working the way I expected for HDHRs, and then checked and it seems to be broken on master too, so now I have to go back and debug what I am doing wrong (possibly a config error on my dev system), or if I need to fix something entirely different). Talking of rabbit holes, how is the wayland port going?
[15:43:06] stuarta: hah
[15:43:53] stuarta: still trying to get to the bottom of why libva can't properly load the backend driver library
[15:47:37] stuarta: strace isn't yielding any interesting information
[15:48:05] jheizer: Man I set up a new intel/libva system last night. It is sooo bad. Need to figure out what I am missing config wise tonight.
[15:48:22] stuarta: jheizer: what distro?
[15:48:28] jheizer: 16.04.3
[15:48:31] gary_buhrmaster: The funny thing is intel (libva) was an early convert to supporting wayland. But I have zero clue as to whether that support was only for the newer API.
[15:48:33] stuarta: ah
[15:48:41] jheizer: not even libva to blame per say
[15:48:45] jheizer: sucks on opengl high too
[15:49:00] stuarta: just use vaapi normal profile
[15:49:35] jheizer: laggy, audio drift, pausing, etc
[15:49:48] jheizer: need to do some -v playback debug ging
[15:49:53] jheizer: cause logs are empty now
[15:50:00] jheizer: (not empty, just no clues)
[15:50:26] jheizer: could only manage to get stereo audio
[15:50:46] ** jheizer is just grumping **
[15:51:01] stuarta: grump away, that's what we do
[15:51:17] jheizer: wasn't even thinking about bios -> uefi
[15:51:25] jheizer: so started off grumpy that I had to handle that
[15:51:27] jheizer: haha
[15:51:38] hampton: gary_buhrmaster: Setup is broken for HDHR. Just ran into that the other day. Still works fine on 0.28.
[15:51:51] gary_buhrmaster: grumping eventually makes progress in this project.
[15:52:35] peterbennett (peterbennett!~Peter@mythtv/developer/peterbennett) has joined #mythtv
[15:53:02] gary_buhrmaster: hampton: Thanks for confirming (solves that question). But since I want to make changes, and be able to actually test with (valid) results, I guess that means I have to go fix setup first (*sigh*)
[15:53:08] jheizer: Moving from a 330 atom to a J4205 quad core 2.6Ghz I expect more
[15:53:29] stuarta: jheizer: ah see, having expectations, that's where you go wrong
[15:53:31] hampton: In master you can create a new tuner, select hdhr for the type, enter the hdhr id, and then exit/save. Once you come back into that tuner you should be able to select the tuner id on the hdhr..
[15:54:13] hampton: Fixing setup made it onto my list too.
[15:54:29] gary_buhrmaster: hampton: Yes, but the list (to choose from) seems to be empty. And it should not be (at least I think it should not be empty, as I see the logs saying it found a number of tuners). Need to figure out where that info gets lost.
[15:55:31] hampton: Agreed. On my system 0.28 fills in the list of available tuners. Master doesn't. No other changes to anything in my setup.
[15:57:51] gary_buhrmaster: hampton: Well, if you get there first...... (I'll probably spend some time this weekend on looking at it. I am unreasonably hoping it will be obvious (and not just obvious in retrospect with a Doh! moment)).
[15:58:46] peterbennett: I haven't set up an HDHR for a while, but don't you have to add each tuner until you have three?
[15:59:44] peterbennett: At least for the Ceton I think it works that way, because the system does not seem to know how many tuners there are
[16:00:20] ** stuarta bangs his head against a vaapi shaped desk **
[16:00:31] gary_buhrmaster: peterbennett: Depends on the model, but yes, you generally create one capture card per tuner (some devices have 2, some 3, some 4). However the (in 0.28) setup shows a list to select from, which helps you a bit (and shows which ones are already used I think).
[16:03:04] gary_buhrmaster: What does a vaapi shaped desk look like? Is it blue, and does it come with a swirly circle around an I (the tone would likely be an extra cost option)?
[16:03:29] peterbennett: It looks like HDHR has a different setup from Ceton.
[16:04:54] peterbennett: Any setup bugs – you can add to #13046 and I will look at them
[16:04:54] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13046 **
[16:05:03] stuarta: gary_buhrmaster: i'm now in another rabbit hole. i'm now not even sure if vaapi is working when using xorg
[16:07:12] peterbennett: vaapi works for me on intel video but is horrible with nvidia
[16:07:18] jheizer: .28 also or just 29?
[16:07:33] jheizer: I was trying to tell from the logs last night but there wasn't a clear message like with VDPAU
[16:07:49] jheizer: but, cpu usage levels did change between vaapi and opengl
[16:09:29] gary_buhrmaster: peterbennett: I will do so, if it appears to be mythui related (I do not want the "blame" that conversion until I know more what the root cause is).
[16:10:14] stuarta: jheizer: while watching a recording, hit m > playback > playback data
[16:10:28] stuarta: should show vaapi rather than ffmpeg in the popup
[16:10:31] jheizer: ah, duuuh. Thanks.
