[08:13:29] Roklobster: nice, well i have a g4400 processor so it should be fine.
[08:13:48] Roklobster: just need to find the time to descend into mythtv setup hell...
[08:14:47] Roklobster: lirc, dvb tuners, shepherd, hdmi audio... etc etc etc
[08:15:38] Roklobster: does vaapi do deinterlacing as nice as vdpau?
[08:15:42] Roklobster: i bet jya says no
[08:15:53] Roklobster: ;)
[08:28:46] stuarta: ENOTIMPLEMENTED
[08:29:01] stuarta: the hardware and the interface can, we just can't use it

[08:29:56] Roklobster: this could be my big monment...

[08:36:02] Roklobster: dunno if mrs lobsta would appreciate the hacking inteerrupting tv recordings
[08:40:13] stuarta: dev box ;-)
[08:40:53] jya: Roklobster: what am I saying no to?
[08:41:14] stuarta: i have both dev and prod backends on the one system, with 2 dual tuners (2x dvb-s2, 2x dvb-t) split between them (so both have the same setup)
[08:41:29] stuarta: and an old laptop which is my dev frontend
[08:41:34] jya: Roklobster: the new vaapid API has a full new range of deinterlacers, however we support none, and they are only supported on intel >= 3 years old
[08:41:44] stuarta: jya: vaapi based deinterlacing.
[08:42:26] jya: i have a mac mini 2011 with a crappy amd 6630M, thought I would use it for mythtv frontend, but the vdpau code segfault instantly
[08:42:29] jya: need to check on why
[08:42:48] jya: i moved to a linux laptop as my primary machine, will resume coding soon
[08:43:18] jya: stuarta: only bob deinterlacing though, so you lose half of the vertical resolution
[08:44:05] stuarta: i have the relevant hardware, but not a clue where to start.

[08:57:34] jya: Couldn't figure out how to get ubuntu to recognise the video card. fedora 24 recognise it first go... then I used the exact same kernel as in fedora. still getting driver errors and xorg segfault
[09:01:12] stuarta: must be driver differences then
[09:17:44] Roklobster: jya: once i get my g4400 cpu in i'll be a willing guinea pig
[09:18:40] jya: stuarta: I copied the kernel from the fedora one, except it boots into the ubuntu / partition
[09:18:50] jya: don't see how there could be a difference in drivers
[09:19:20] jya: plus the 6630M is old, released end of 2010
[09:19:29] jya: surely ubuntu 16.04 would have sorted those by now
[09:22:37] stuarta: you would think so
[09:23:18] stuarta: that reminds me, time to upgrade the frontend to 16.04
[09:25:00] stuarta: which btw, has a Intel HD 4400 in it
[09:25:10] stuarta: and work perfectly with 14.04
[09:39:01] ** stuarta upgrades prod frontend to 16.04 **
[09:39:11] stuarta: might even be 16.04.01
[10:06:40] Roklobster: The G4400 has the Intel® HD Graphics 510.
[10:07:44] stuarta: ah i was confusing cpu and gpu designations

[14:12:42] ** stuarta ponders adding dbus support for the network being online to the frontend **
[14:38:20] stuartm: ooh, that's a nice idea
[14:42:10] stuartm: just booted up myfrontend on my TV, no IR connected, without thinking I started pressing the arrow buttons on the TV remote and it moved the selection in the menus ...
[14:42:35] stuartm: colour me impressed, I'm guessing that CEC just works out of the box for the RPi now, but I missed the memo
[14:42:45] stuarta: i just upgraded my prod frontend to ubuntu 16.04.01, now it boots up so fast the network isn't ready when the frontend starts
[14:43:01] stuartm: unfortunately it's just the arrow buttons that worked, select did not
[14:44:01] stuartm: I now need to see if it's possible for the other buttons to work via CEC, if they can, then I'll be very, very happy
[14:44:10] stuarta: :)
[14:44:18] stuarta: you can thank peterbennet for that
[14:45:29] stuartm: that's a serious check in the usability column for RPi based frontends, just plug them in and you don't need another remote, you don't need to mess with lirc or a keyboard, it just works
[14:46:14] brfransen (brfransen!~brfransen@71.11.51.80) has joined #mythtv
[14:46:59] stuartm: but only if other keys can be made to work, at a minimum you need options menu, select button and playback buttons ... bonus points for buttons like Guide, but I doubt those are part of the CEC spec
[14:48:07] jheizer: I think you can go in to the key mappings and try to fix them
[14:48:25] jheizer: sometimes
[14:48:37] jheizer: IIRC
[14:51:08] stuartm: right, but for the best experience it should work out of the box and since with something like CEC we can achieve that easily since the actions will be standardised
[14:51:26] stuartm: I'll play with it tonight
[14:51:37] stuartm: if I'm not working again
[14:55:11] stuartm: well I got select working, unfortunately hdmi audio still doesn't work so I won't be using that frontend just yet

[19:14:38] knowledgejunkie: regarding LiveTV on 0.27+ with a PVR-150, if I want to increase the recording/playback buffer by a second (or two/three), which routines should I attack? Since upgrading a system to 0.27 last year from 0.21, LiveTV is unusable initially (video freezes/stutters) unless I pause it for a second or two, and programme transitions hang the frontend. No probs at all with DVB sources.
[19:17:49] knowledgejunkie: this is on a Debian Wheezy box (with myth from dmo, not source) that talks to a CRT directly from the ATI video card, so it can't be updated to Jessie due to the UMS->KMS changes. With a 2yo and a 7mo time is a bit limited but it seems odd that LiveTV is broken on this system with a PVR-150 card.
[19:21:55] jams_: knowledgejunkie, Doesn't address your question but possible solution. Same thing happens with an intel video card but nvidia seems to do ok. With that said overall the pvr/ivtv line of cards did take a big hit with livetv and .27+
[19:50:57] knowledgejunkie: jams_: due to the ATI card's ability to generate a valid PAL signal for use with a homebrew VGA->SCART cable, this box is kinda tied to the card. Need a more complicated sync circuit cable for use with older nvidia cards (and then there's no guarantee that it would work...).
[19:52:02] jams_: figured there was a reason :) but thought it was worth mentioning
[19:52:11] knowledgejunkie: jams_: livetv does work with the ATI card and PVR-150 *if* I pause playback immediately for a second or so – I just need to know where to bump the buffer/wait. I'm hoping this is also why prog transitions fail so hard.
[19:57:50] knowledgejunkie: jams_: thx for the idea though :)
