[04:16:53] bill6502: gregbert: re #12290, right, the workaround in comment 1 just undoes a the fix that avoids the DB. the POC fix only works for one of the six places that call FinishedRecording
[04:16:53] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12290 **
[04:19:29] bill6502: 4 of them I never saw used but the TVRec::RingBufferChanged case was the one that I couldn't get to pass the filesize when it called FinishedRecording (always came up with 0 again.)
[04:20:54] bill6502: and the answer to your question is, no nothing's been committed
[04:23:44] bill6502: I did consider just removing the filesize test, but didn't try it to see if it had an affect commflag/transcode/previewgen (in the case of a real 0 length file)

[14:45:45] jmcentee: Are you happy with how buildbot is at the moment, or are there improvements you would like to make/see but don't have the time/current enthusiasm for?
[14:48:59] stuarta: jmcentee: there are some things that need doing.
[14:49:32] stuarta: moving off the current host, which may be a struggle since i'm not sure i have the disk space on the target system.
[14:49:44] stuarta: RFE for the buildbot, to limit space taken by the pickles
[14:51:40] stuarta: need to add the new osx slave definition
[14:54:39] stuarta: so part of moving is doing an upgrade to the buildmaster
[14:54:42] gregbert: crazy thing i can't figure out. mythfilldatabase fails to run xmltv if its run from any kind of a cron job, but works file if i log in and run it manually. the error message: "tv_grab_huro --capabilities failed or we timed out waiting. You may need to upgrade your xmltv grabber""
[14:54:53] gregbert: s/file/fine/
[14:55:03] stuarta: gregbert: stuff from cron runs without environment
[14:55:22] stuarta: so try running `env – mythfilldatabase <usual args>` and see if it breaks
[14:55:34] gregbert: one sec
[14:55:40] gregbert: i am sure you are right
[14:55:51] ** stuarta does this for a living **
[14:56:40] gregbert: stuarta: it breaks – but in a much more severe way.. 'This application expects to be running a locale that specifies a UTF-8 codeset[...]" also also complains about not having HOME set
[14:56:50] stuarta: \o/ progress
[14:56:57] gregbert: i've been trying to hunt down the environment variable for a while now
[14:57:23] stuarta: why are you running it from cron??? the backend will run it for you
[14:57:38] gregbert: the backend wasn't updating xmltv – i suspect its having the same issue
[14:57:53] stuarta: interesting
[14:58:18] gregbert: i am hunting through the output of `set`
[15:00:02] gregbert: yeah – i can't find anything
[15:04:06] gregbert: i think its because "tv_grab_huro" is not in the path
[15:05:18] stuarta: where is it?
[15:05:24] gregbert: /usr/bin/vendor_perl
[15:05:43] stuarta: is that a non standard grabber?
[15:05:55] gregbert: its just part of xmltv i believe
[15:06:13] gregbert: i am using it to grab czech television stations (for my wife)
[15:06:20] stuarta: would have expected it to be in the same place as the rest
[15:06:30] gregbert: what are 'the rest'? i'll look where they are
[15:06:51] jmcentee: stuarta: Where is the buildbot master located at the moment?
[15:09:25] stuarta: alcor.mythtv.org
[15:09:36] stuarta: physically
[15:09:44] stuarta: logically, it's builtbot.mythtv.org
[15:12:03] jmcentee: sort of asking physical box / hosting provider. Is it Oregon State System of Higher Education
[15:12:59] stuarta: it's in osuosl's labs yes, and the replacement is a VM provided by them
[15:13:56] stuarta: alcor = physical
[15:14:11] gregbert: stuarta: Confirmed – adding that to the path fixed the issue.
[15:14:35] gregbert: stuarta: but now how do i fix it so mythbackend is able to run it?

[15:23:20] gregbert: but then int he future, some other program will need another file in that directory
[15:24:34] jmcentee: did you change the $PATH for the user mythvbackend runs as?
[15:24:52] gregbert: its run as a systemd service. i'll need to change it there
[15:25:01] gregbert: but it will make it non standard
[15:25:21] jmcentee: what distro are you using.
[15:25:39] gregbert: archlinux
[15:26:35] gregbert: i am looking in the mythfilldatabase to find where it executes the xmltv stuff
[15:27:49] stuarta: hrm, pacman can't find any xmltv packages on my archlinux buildslave
[15:28:01] jmcentee: Do you know who the packager for archlinux is?
[15:28:14] gregbert: you probably want to go to the aur
[15:28:23] gregbert: https://aur.archlinux.org/
[15:28:45] gregbert: you need to clone the git: https://aur.archlinux.org/xmltv.git
[15:28:55] gregbert: and then 'makepkg -sri' in it.. that will install it
[15:29:38] stuarta: does everyone use aur??
[15:29:44] gregbert: yes
[15:29:54] gregbert: by 'everyone' if you mean everyone in #archlinux
[15:31:33] jmcentee: I guess the correct fix is to get the packager of mythtv for archlinux to fix it.
[15:32:05] gregbert: i really dont know..
[15:32:16] gregbert: because its only for people who have xmltv installed
[15:32:47] gregbert: seems like the right fix is for the backend to somewhere ask the path
[15:33:29] jmcentee: are you running 0.28 from aur or did you install mythtv from somewhere else?
[15:33:51] gregbert: fixes/0.28 – from the aur, which downloads directly from the git site
[15:35:04] gregbert: if i could find the code where it executes the command, i could just write a patch for it
[15:35:12] gregbert: i'm already patching using #12290
[15:35:12] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12290 **
[15:35:25] jmcentee: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mythtv-git/ lists xmltv as an optional dependance.
[15:35:51] gregbert: that sounds right to me – isnt that what you would expect?
[15:37:41] gregbert: i am also running the backend with '-v xmltv' but i dont seem to be getting any additional logging
[15:37:49] gregbert: should i be running with -v mythfilldatabase instead?
[15:38:55] jmcentee: yes, so I would expect mythtv to find it if it is installed. I would assume that is a package/distro problem, more that an a mythtv problem. but that is not helpful atm.
[15:40:09] gregbert: i am not really sure how the xmltv package could solve this.. its putting itself in the path for users.. but it can't modify the service file since thats owned by the archlinux mythtv package
[15:40:18] gregbert: oh well – maybe this is for brighter minds than me
[15:40:29] gregbert: i'll just run it as a cron job and be done with it
[15:40:48] jmcentee: the mythtv package needs to be changed
[15:46:41] dekarl-work (dekarl-work!51c8c614@gateway/web/freenode/ip.81.200.198.20) has joined #mythtv
[15:47:19] dekarl-work: morning, what's the issue with the grabber? tv_find_grabbers and the grabber need to be in the PATH an everything should "just work". http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/Tv_find_grabbers
[15:48:16] stuarta: it's them pesky arch linux users again ;-)
[15:48:23] stuarta: </sarcasm>
[15:48:58] gregbert: hah
[15:49:27] jmcentee: (knowing very little) the archlinux should have a PATH that inculdes the location of where the tv_grabbers are , but doesn't.
[15:49:43] gregbert: dekarl-work: can we verify this before i go back to the pesky archlinux users?
[15:49:48] stuarta: i just got bored trying to build the arch linux xmltv aur, needs 3 other packages that aren't available, no doubt i have to pull them from aur too
[15:49:57] gregbert: stuarta: probably
[15:50:24] gregbert: there are packages to help pull these without going to the aur.. but they cause more trouble than they are worth
[15:50:25] dekarl-work: gregbert: tv_grab_huro is in /usr/bin, correct?
[15:50:45] gregbert: dekarl-work: no – its in /usr/bin/vendor_perl
[15:51:10] dekarl-work: oh, but /usr/bin/vendor_perl (what is that?) is in the path?
[15:51:17] gregbert: if i want more debug logging – do i use -v mythfilldatabase when i launch mythbackend?
[15:51:36] gregbert: dekarl-work: its in the path of the users, but *may* not be ending up in the path of the backend
[15:51:45] gregbert: they are launched using service files
[15:51:46] dekarl-work: ahh, joy :)
[15:52:09] stuarta: gregbert: ah, is it installing it as a system perl package or a user perl package?
[15:52:26] gregbert: i dont know
[15:53:13] dekarl-work: the thing is, mythtv and xmltv expect to find the grabbers/tools in the path
[15:53:17] gregbert: stuarta: it would be great if you could continue installing so you see if it lands where mine did
[15:54:04] gregbert: dekarl-work: yes, thats what i've discovered... its taken a long time for me to figure out it was a path issue
[15:54:19] jmcentee: gregbert; did you reboot after changing the PATH variable?
[15:54:22] gregbert: dekarl-work: but i only figured it out when trying to use a cron job to call mythfilldatabase
[15:55:04] gregbert: jmcentee: sorry, i am not following. it works if i launch as a cron job while changing the path
[15:55:52] gregbert: i can add this path to the environment variable of mythbackend.service and verify that its fixed
[15:56:03] gregbert: can i get more debug information in the log with -v mythfilldatabase?
[15:56:18] gregbert: is see int he code that it is trying to log as "INFO" the grabber command
[15:57:06] gregbert: i'd like to laise with the arch folks, but i need to verify everything first
[15:58:02] stuarta: gregbert: joking aside, we would like it to work right on arch linux
[15:58:16] gregbert: so would i :-)
[15:58:36] gregbert: the debug logging information would be very helpful to be able to access for that module
[15:59:20] gregbert: i may have found something... one sec
[15:59:55] jmcentee: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/User gives optino on how a service should get Environment variables
[15:59:57] dekarl-work: gregbert: there interesting part starts at https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/blob/master/ . . . ata.cpp#L380
[16:00:25] dekarl-work: you need -v xmltv
[16:00:36] gregbert: dekarl-work: thats what i was using.. wasnt getting anything more for some reason
[16:00:49] gregbert: but i also found this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/User#PATH
[16:02:30] gregbert: i think i need to launch '
[16:02:36] gregbert: systemctl --user import-environment PATH' as the mythtv user
[16:02:48] gregbert: checking out for awhile.. be back later
[16:03:38] jmcentee: gregbert: slightly higher up is https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/ . . . vice_example
[16:04:08] gregbert: jmcentee: right, thats what i was looking for initially
[16:04:20] gregbert: jmcentee: but its a hack.
[16:04:47] gregbert: jmcentee: if the path variable can be imported, it should be... easy fix.
[16:05:04] gregbert: checking out for real now for a bit. thanks for all of your help!

[20:38:41] peterbennett: tgm4883: There are a couple of patches that I supplied tickets for. Also you need to manually create a new playback profile (We should really have a default playback profile for openmax)

[20:40:05] peterbennett: Somehow ALSA:default caused problems in ubuntu but worked in raspbian

[21:08:00] stuarta: sure, feel free. iirc it's a database (schema) update
[21:08:26] stuarta: we might have to make an exception this late in the dev cycle to accomodate it
[21:08:29] peterbennett: So does that involve a schema version change?
[21:08:43] stuarta: i think so, but am unsure
[21:09:12] peterbennett: OK I will create a ticket and mention that i am looking into a solution

[21:10:08] stuarta: nice
[21:12:46] dekarl: I thought we were going to do a schema update for (I forgot) but tried to avoid having many this late in the testing phase. So I collected notes in dbcheck.cpp for some kind of rollup
[21:13:14] stuarta: for what?
[21:13:48] dekarl: I have to look up what was in the pipeline
[21:13:59] dekarl: had to look up what notes I put there, too ;)

[23:19:16] jheizer: For a while there was talk about the openmax and mythtv studdering on certain 1080 content at certain fps, maybe someone stuck a lowering of the output resolution in there.

[23:42:34] stuartm: experimental driver doesn't work though
[23:42:53] stuartm: softblend GUI looks terrible :)
