[08:02:39] jya: that is so weird.
[08:03:36] jya: doing QMap<QString, QString>.append(string, int)
[08:03:53] jya: cause an addition of some weird characters. That should have caused a compilation error
[08:04:25] jya: unless it converted the int to QChar

[08:04:50] jya: in any case, that broke UPnP

[10:15:53] stuartm: geez, on Wednesday there were 56 CVEs for Wordpress and it's plugins
[10:16:36] dekarl: sounds like its a popular thing
[10:17:29] stuarta: and you wonder why i'm reluctant to roll out wordpress...
[10:18:53] jya: I’m going to tag a 0.27.3. I’ve reverted all the changes related to the backend interrupting early if there’s an error
[10:19:17] jya: it appears that with some clients, crapping out after only 15s like we used to do is a better way :P
[10:19:38] stuarta: :-(
[10:20:05] jya: I read some people having locking issue since upgrading to 0.27.2
[10:20:34] jya: as I can’t explain any other reasons for this to occur, seeing those were the only changes to the ringbuffers/backend, I reverted it all

[10:25:56] dekarl: re LiveTV channel changing speedups, can't we group channels by transport? It appears as if switching within the transport is faster then across transports. (The next step would be keeping the tuner running on the transport until we run out of tuners so there can be always a tuner that is already tuned to the last/next transport for interleaved channel lists)
[10:27:25] jya: dekarl: that would only work if you had as many cards as transport
[10:27:48] jya: how do you decide otherwise which channel you should tune to?
[10:28:35] dekarl: jya: correct. e.g. three dual tuners for 6 DVB-T muxes. but then I was mainly thinking about "leave the tuner running" least-recently-used-recycling, to help when there are say 3 multiplexes that you are switching between
[10:29:01] jya: but it is a good idea
[10:29:08] jya: not sure why this wasn’t done before
[10:29:09] dekarl: oh, I wasn't thinking about "tuner warming" before someone actually uses them
[10:29:24] jya: having said that, changing channel was never that fast for liveTV, multiplex or not
[10:29:33] jya: so it was hard to notice the speed difference
[10:29:52] jya: for me now, since all the rinbuffer changes, changing channels on the same multiplex is < 2s
[10:30:10] jya: actually, the hotel I was staying at in SF, had longer channel change time than my myth box
[10:30:29] dekarl1 (dekarl1!~dekarl@p4FCEE15D.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #mythtv
[10:31:22] dekarl1: "tuner warming" before someone actually accesses them would be a harder optimization. as you said its non-trivial to determine which transports to warm up
[10:32:18] dekarl1: I remember some people hinting that waiting for tuning + PAT/PMT/SDT + crypto setup taking some time. When I compared xbmc vs mythfrontend livetv channel changing I noticed a (small) difference, too
[10:33:32] dekarl (dekarl!~dekarl@p4FE85DC5.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[10:34:54] jya: dekarl1: that would work for me, I bought as many DVB cards as I have transports.
[10:35:06] jya: but i don’t think it would be a trivial change
[10:35:26] jya: idea sound simple enough, but how easy it is to implement is another thing

[10:36:48] jya: interesting… then you set iptv recorders...
[10:36:55] jya: hmmmm… never thought about that...
[10:36:58] jya: could try
[10:37:53] stuarta: ooo interesting. that gives me some ideas
[10:38:10] stuarta: i was thinking of adding another card to the backend and using vtuners to ship it to my other dev box
[10:38:36] stuarta: that gives me the alternative of shipping it via iptv instead
[10:39:00] jya: that would be a great setup really...
[10:39:16] jya: then you have liveTV streaming to an ipad!
[10:39:28] jya: no need to write a proper liveTV rtsp/IPTV server

[10:40:47] stuarta: aye
[10:41:16] jya: i’ve been procrastinating on the liveTV support I really want to add
[10:41:50] jya: getting around the issue by simply always having the card open and always streaming data.

[19:31:05] jya_: oh well, I guess my workload will increase following that awful game.
[19:43:17] stuartm: ?
[19:47:30] jya_: wagnerrp: sphery : trying to replicate an issue where a scan supposidely remove all files stored on SBE…
[19:48:39] wagnerrp: for all scans, the machine performing the scan will open up a new connection to the slave backend
[19:48:40] jya_: I don’t use a SBE, but I’d like to reproduce the issue. How could I quickly create a SBE, and make it look like my main video storage location (which I can share via NFS) is served by the SBE?
[19:48:51] wagnerrp: even if the master, it will not reuse the master's existing link to the sbe
[19:49:09] wagnerrp: if a connection to the slave can be made, it will wipe any videos that are not picked up by the scan
[19:49:30] poolejj (poolejj!~poolejj@adsl-074-167-126-214.sip.mco.bellsouth.net) has joined #mythtv
[19:49:36] wagnerrp: if a connection cannot be made, it will leave any content known to exist on that machine untouched
[19:49:54] jya_: i have no idea on how that tells me one to achieve what I describe above
[19:50:15] wagnerrp: just explaining scanning behavior when an SBE is involved
[19:51:21] wagnerrp: the only reference to which machine files are stored on is the hostname field in videometadata
[19:51:36] jya_: so you’re saying that if the user is having the issue hes describing, the problem isn’t the connection, but that the SBE itself doesn’t see the files
[19:51:50] wagnerrp: however note that if your MBE and SBE can both access the same files, there will be issues as the scanner flip-flops between which machine is listed as owner
[19:52:08] wagnerrp: i'm not saying there can't be bugs that would result in otherwise
[19:52:18] wagnerrp: but at least as the logic is intended to work
[19:52:41] wagnerrp: the only way to flush content stored on an SBE is for that machine to be online, and the slave backend running
[19:52:57] jya_: i was concerned that my changes that attempt to sanitise the IP address, or if a hostname was used attempt to resolve the name first, could be the reason for this problem
[19:53:07] wagnerrp: otherwise, it's just like orphaned recordings
[19:53:16] wagnerrp: it assumes the recordings are simply not currently accessible
[19:53:20] wagnerrp: so it plays it safe
[19:54:38] jya_: where do you define the SG for the SBE?
[19:54:53] jya_: how does the frontend knows where to look for those SBE and the SG on that SBE?
[19:55:24] wagnerrp: you can define SGs on the SBE
[19:55:39] wagnerrp: however if no Video group is defined on the SBE, it will use the directories defined on the MBE instead
[19:56:17] wagnerrp: it's an either/or. it won't automatically use the MBEs directories if any are defined for the SBE
[19:56:18] jya_: so if I build a SBE, set a SG there, put some video files in it
[19:56:48] jya_: next time I do a scan on the frontend, it will magically know that it needs to search that SBE on those SG
[19:57:14] wagnerrp: it will search any connected SBE, not just ones with directories defined
[19:57:15] jya_: ah… so I have to delete the videos SG on the MBE?
[19:57:35] wagnerrp: if you have directories defined on the SBE, it will use those, and only those
[19:57:36] jya_: it doesn’t merge the content as such
[19:57:46] wagnerrp: if you have none defined on the SBE, it will use the directories defined on the MBE
[19:58:10] wagnerrp: the content from all machines is still merged in the video library
[19:58:29] wagnerrp: but for the purposes of what directories are scanned, either it uses the locally defined ones, or it falls back to the masters'
[19:58:30] jya_: looking at my specific case. I have my MBE with a videos SG, containing 1000s of files. If now I create a SBE, with also a Videos SG, put some files there
[19:58:41] jya_: now if I do a scan on a remote frontend.
[19:58:44] jya_: what will happen?
[19:59:10] jya_: it will scan both MBE and SBE and merge the content?
[19:59:13] wagnerrp: it will query the master's directories on the existing MBE connection
[19:59:25] wagnerrp: then it will attempt to query each defined SBE
[19:59:50] wagnerrp: either using the directories defined for the SBE on the SBE, or falling back to the MBE's directories on the SBE
[20:00:33] wagnerrp: all discovered content will then be merged in the video library
[20:01:06] jya_: ok… so just going to create a SBE, create a dummy Videos SG (and only that SG) add some files to it and see what happens
