[17:35:31] t0mahawk: For mythweb I am working on an HLS solution which utilizes mythservices API to transcode on the fly and play via m3u8 supported devices (ios, android most web browsers etc).
[17:35:44] t0mahawk: As far as I know something like that is not already built in right?
[17:35:55] t0mahawk: If not, I can submit a pull request if the developers are interested
[17:36:23] wagnerrp: mythweb is largely abandoned at this point
[17:37:14] t0mahawk: Ok and I thought that was the case, is the internal web server going to be the new web frontend?
[17:37:17] wagnerrp: if you want something likely to be committed, mythweb is being replaced by a static/html5 version served up by the backend
[17:37:27] t0mahawk: ok the one that runs on 6544?
[17:37:34] wagnerrp: yes
[17:38:13] t0mahawk: I will poke around looking for the source related to that
[17:38:54] t0mahawk: I would like to contribute to it to help push it along some
[17:42:00] t0mahawk: which program in the source is it implemented in?
[17:42:58] stuartm: the server is in libmythupnp/, the services API in libmythservicecontracts/ and programs/mythbackend, the content in html/
[17:43:10] stuartm: you'll need to update to the latest master
[17:44:35] t0mahawk: Im pulling the git repo down as we speal
[17:44:41] stuartm: t0mahawk: jya has stated that he will be re-writing the HLS to transcode each segment on demand, so you can start playback in the middle, skip ahead etc
[17:45:03] t0mahawk: I am assuming it is a custom rolled server with no dynamic scripting support?
[17:45:08] stuartm: and I will be implementing DASH support soon
[17:45:29] stuartm: no, there's server side scripting using QtScript (javascript)
[17:45:29] t0mahawk: awesome, the skip forward will be a nice addition
[17:45:49] t0mahawk: ah ok good, never used it but I'll mess with it some today
[17:46:44] wagnerrp: however most of the "smarts" are supposed to be in the javascript, pulling content from the backend through the services api, rather than baked directly into the served pages
[17:46:51] t0mahawk: I mean I have javascript just not QtScript
[17:47:11] t0mahawk: yea that shouldnt be too difficult, AJAX style requests
[17:47:17] wagnerrp: qtscript is just a javascript-based scripting engine built into qt applications
[17:47:27] wagnerrp: basically, you're running the javascript server-side rather than client-side
[17:47:33] t0mahawk: ok, thats easy enough then
[17:47:57] stuartm: QtScript is javascript just a version which is slightly behind the one you'll find in current browsers and of course no DOM, instead it interfaces directly through the Services API, most of the heavy lifting is done there with C++
[17:49:37] stuartm: e.g. var guide = new Guide(); programs = guide.GetProgramGuide(arg1, arg2 ...); where GetProgramGuide() is defined here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Services_API http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Guide_Service
[17:50:01] stuartm: i.e. you're not using the Services API through http, the QtScript can call C++ methods directly
[17:50:48] stuartm: anyway, take a look at what currently exists and you'll see for yourself :)
[17:51:04] t0mahawk: ok so looking at the service api class name is the services class (Guide, Content, Video etc)
[17:51:16] stuartm: yep
[17:51:24] t0mahawk: and the methods are the methods defined in the WSDL
[17:51:28] t0mahawk: ok simple enough
[17:51:30] stuartm: yep
[17:52:30] t0mahawk: Have there been any efforts to finish off Program Guide and things like that or are you all still working on other things like HLS range request and DASH support?
[17:52:33] stuartm: only difference between using the services API through the scripting interface and http is that you need to specify all the arguments in the correct, there's no default initialisation etc
[17:52:49] t0mahawk: right, makes sense enough
[17:52:59] stuartm: correct order
[17:53:03] stuartm: missed a word
[17:53:27] t0mahawk: are optional params still optional?
[17:54:20] stuartm: no, you can specify default values for them though to get the same behaviour i.e. int = 0, bool = false, string = ""
[17:54:46] stuartm: the guide is largely complete, maybe get a few tweaks when I've finished with other stuff
[17:55:29] t0mahawk: ok, are you pushing that to the master or do you have a seperate branch that you are going to do a pull request from before .28?
[17:55:32] stuartm: currently adding search word/list support
[17:55:41] stuartm: it's all going to master
[17:56:23] t0mahawk: ok
[17:56:24] stuartm: no-one is currently working on video/music/gallery support, so those are wide open if your interested in any of those
[17:57:27] t0mahawk: ok, ill take a look into video gallery support
[17:58:26] stuartm: if you're competent with C++ we also want to add https support (already supported by QT, just needs hooking up) and WebSocket support for real-time updates in the guide and recording pages
[17:59:29] t0mahawk: ok, I am good with c++, Ill look at the video gallery stuff first then depending on my schedule take a look into the https support
[17:59:48] t0mahawk: are you all migrating away from jwplayer for the video player support?
[18:00:23] stuartm: we'll fall back to jwplayer for clients that don't support DASH or HLS HTML 5
[18:00:48] stuartm: but the plan is that we'll use HTML 5 video where it's supported
[18:01:04] t0mahawk: I thought that was the plan wasnt sure though
[18:01:20] t0mahawk: repo is still cloning, had to spin up a new VM first
[18:01:48] stuartm: currently only Android and iOS support the HLS implementation I've got, hence why I'm looking to add DASH too which is supported by Chrome on the PC with a promise of support from Firefox
[18:03:30] t0mahawk: I didn't know chrome wouldnt support it, I thought I used the current m3u8 streams in an vid tag within chrome for testing, could be wrong though
[18:04:34] stuartm: it will support playback of an entire transcoded file, but not proper on-demand streaming
[18:04:46] stuartm: for those you need either HLS or DASH
[18:05:13] t0mahawk: your right, i just double checked using the mythweb implementation i did last night
[18:05:28] stuartm: you can sometimes get away with it when playback is always behind the transcoder
[18:08:17] t0mahawk: I am going to do my dev in a vm, any good way to get the backend up end running without having a tuner available?
[18:22:33] stuartm: there's a demo tuner for exactly that purpose
[18:22:50] stuartm: err, dummy tuner
[18:23:17] stuartm: no, right first time
[18:23:26] stuartm: it's an option in the capture card setup anyway
[18:23:43] t0mahawk: ok in mythtv-setup then
[18:25:39] caelor: there's also a HLS tuner, which should be able to stream in NasaTV too

[18:41:05] peper03: Ok, try again. Stupid NAS seems to have played up just at the wrong moment...
[18:41:09] peper03: stuartm: I'm more or less done with the changes to IdleScreen to display the next scheduled recording and whether there are any conflicts (basically like what's shown in mythwelcome now). There's a bit of existing code in IdleScreen though that has no effect.
[18:41:14] peper03: UpdateScreen tries to get the child named 'status', but that currently always fails. There *is* a child called 'status' but it's buried about two levels deep in a statetype object. GetChild (or more specifically qChildHelper) will not recurse into anything but a group. Is that intentional?

[20:37:00] peper03: Is there an easy, cross-platform method of determining uptime? If the frontend should enter standby at startup on a combined machine if the machine has been started automatically to record something, it doesn't help to query just the master backend as it may be a combined machine with a slave backend.
[20:38:27] peper03: Unless I've overlooked something, determining whether a backend is running on the same machine and a recording is scheduled to start within X minutes together with an uptime of less than Y minutes should be fairly bullet-proof.
[20:40:13] peper03: I guess the uptime check could be skipped but that could potentially cause a frontend to enter standby if the frontend isn't automatically started at boot (e.g. if the machine isn't dedicated)

[21:27:22] stuartm: peper03: I think you can skip the uptime check, it's not really the end of the world if the frontend enters standby on startup since a single button press will exit standby – the backend has never checked uptime when determining whether it was started automatically or not and yet it seems to work well enough for everyone
[21:30:12] stuartm: you could even do something that would hide the case 99% of the time – don't enter standby immediately on startup, but wait a reduced time – a couple of minutes maybe, that way if the user started the frontend they'll likely start pressing buttons straight away resetting the idle timeout to it's normal duration, and if they don't you're only delaying the entry to standby by a nominal amount
[21:33:22] t0mahawk: stuart, does the html content get cached, changes are not propagating to my web frontend
[21:34:25] t0mahawk: or do you have to re-make
[21:37:47] t0mahawk: nvm caching was on my browsers end
