[11:22:38] neufeld: jya: it's consistent, repeatable. That file cannot be read, other files can. There's also "Waited 104ms for video buffers AAAAAAAAAAAAAA", repeating with ever longer intervals 28 times, the last one being 9986ms. ffprobe shows that this 1-hour recording is 24.52 seconds long, at a bitrate of 1565666 kb/s.
[11:23:21] jya_: neufeld: are you accessing the file over myth:// or direct?
[11:23:56] neufeld: jya_: the frontend reads files over myth://
[11:25:00] jya_: you can try mounting the directory via NFS, so the path is identical between the frontend and the backend
[11:25:17] jya_: can you post that file somewhere?
[11:25:39] neufeld: It's a combined front/back end. Yes, I can post the file. Do you need the whole 4.8 GB?
[11:26:08] jya_: no 50MB will do
[11:26:23] jya_: combined front/back? so wy would it access the file over myth:// ?
[11:27:15] neufeld: jya_: I don't know, it used to use direct file access, but I no longer find the setting to activate that.
[11:27:36] neufeld: jya_: since about 0.24, I think, it's been using myth:// on my system.
[11:27:49] jya_: start mythfrontend with -O AlwaysStreamFiles=0
[11:27:58] jya_: and try again
[11:30:36] neufeld: jya_: OK, I'll try that in future. For now, I've got the archive (50MB plus .srt plus all database entries to hook it into a backend, the backup from my exact cutting script, which I had to run to allow my wife's show to be viewable). Do I place it on dropbox, google drive, or is somewhere else better for you?
[11:30:54] neufeld: jya_: actually, I'll just stick it on my httpd. That's easier
[11:31:02] jya_: doesn’t matter, so long that I can download it
[11:31:13] jya_: and make sure that 50MB file doesn’t play for you either
[11:31:23] jya_: otherwise there’s no much point
[11:32:50] neufeld: OK, give me a few seconds to fiddle the backup back into the myth box...
[11:35:34] neufeld: OK, backup restored to state recording was made... checking on a remote frontend.
[11:36:22] neufeld: hanging on "Please Wait...". Then a pixelated screen, and it pops up with the End of Recording box immediately.
[11:36:37] neufeld: Now truncating file to 200 MB...
[11:38:16] neufeld: No longer hanging.
[11:38:54] neufeld: That's curious. I'll poke around a bit...
[11:40:33] neufeld: Keeping only the last 180MB, still works (but a bit of keyframe jitter because the seek table is wrong for a file truncated that way)
[11:42:49] neufeld: So far, all truncations I have tried have fixed the file...
[11:43:55] ** neufeld straces the ffprobe **
[11:45:56] neufeld: So, reads 294912 bytes starting at offset 0, then reads the last 217232 bytes
[11:47:14] neufeld: It's something to do with how the file ends, not how it begins. I'm narrowing that down.

[11:53:19] neufeld: jya_: OK, http://www.cneufeld.ca/neufeld/bad-recording.tgz. You can install it into a backend with the database settings there, but you should delete the cutlist, since that seems to change the behaviour.
[11:53:51] jya_: why would I want database settings if all ou’re trying to do is play the file? mythavtest will do it
[11:54:29] jya_: neufeld: the way ffmpeg does it is check the size of the file, seek end – 250,000 bytes
[11:54:46] jya_: and search for the pts there. this gives the duration and bitrate
[11:56:55] ** neufeld is trying mythavtest to make sure it behaves the same way **
[11:57:13] neufeld: Yeah, looks like it has the same problems.
[11:58:45] neufeld: wait a second...
[11:59:04] neufeld: mythavtest is going to the network. I'll try again with a filename that it can't find on the backend
[11:59:48] jya_: i thought your issues were using myth://
[11:59:57] jya_: mythavtest always uses the path you give it.
[12:00:12] jya_: it doesn’t search the backend for the file the way mythfrontend does
[12:00:40] neufeld: jya_: the issues appear with myth://, but it's not because of that. It's a bad file that angers the frontend.
[12:02:12] Steve-Goodey (Steve-Goodey!~steve@host86-143-240-184.range86-143.btcentralplus.com) has joined #mythtv
[12:02:19] neufeld: I just ran mythavtest on the local file on my big machine (not the front/back end), and it went to the network. I can paste the screen output...
[12:03:43] neufeld: jya_: http://pastebin.com/UPP3rNaM (URL good for a week)
[12:04:18] neufeld: jya_: when I use a filename that doesn't look like a recording filename, it reads from the local disc
[12:05:16] jya_: interesting
[12:07:53] jya_: stuartm: which settings defined the color of the text in the old menu ?
[12:09:16] neufeld: jya_: that 80MB link on cneufeld.ca doesn't show the problem with mythavtest when I prevent it from going to the network, so you probably have to hook it into the backend.
[12:09:34] jya_: ok.. so it shows using myth://
[12:09:54] jya_: even when local ?
[12:10:33] jya_: i’ll have a look
[12:10:47] neufeld: jya_: not sure what you mean by that last question. Right now, all my frontends go to myth://, I haven't run the test to turn that off in the combined front/back end because that's 2 floors away from IRC.
[12:11:19] jya_: i mean just using myth:// is enough, even if accessed via localhost interface ? e.g. not related to slow network things like that
[12:12:14] Steve-Goodey (Steve-Goodey!~steve@host86-143-240-184.range86-143.btcentralplus.com) has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
[12:12:17] neufeld: Correct. It's not a network speed thing, I've got a consistent 15MB/sec 802.11ac network at home now, and I have the same problems on the combined front/back and running locally.
[12:17:59] jya_: ok… good to know
[12:30:21] neufeld: jya_: I just checked, that file I sent you also fails on mythvideo, so you don't need to put it into the database.
[12:30:33] jya_: never intended to
[12:30:46] neufeld: OK
[12:34:19] ** neufeld goes AFK, may not be back for a few hours, but will catch up on the scrollback **

[13:48:10] stuartm: jya_: the popup menus?
[13:48:23] jya_: no, the old settings
[13:48:26] stuartm: qtlook.txt
[13:48:34] jya_: but i think i’ve found what’s going on
[13:48:55] jya_: qtlook.txt doesn’t defined the color of the text unfortunately from what i’ve gathered
[13:49:07] stuartm: it should
[13:49:34] stuartm: str ForegroundColor=#dddddd
[13:49:34] jya_: it does for some item : color of the screen etc.. it certainly isn’t used for your default QWidget
[13:50:02] stuartm: jya_: possible that's been broken with more recent QT releases
[13:50:21] jya_: so by default it uses the stylesheet for that particular platform, on linux it’s black text for QLabel, and other
[13:50:24] jya_: on mac it’s black
[13:51:00] jya_: At no time are the values defined in qtlook.txt used for widget like QLabel, QList, QCheckBox etc
[13:51:25] jya_: it may have been at some stage, having said that, the file I’m looking at is pretty old (settings.cpp and mythwidget.cpp)
[13:51:57] jya_: so for the mac, If i want to make it look like linux, wherever a QWidget is derived, I adde in the constructor something like setStyleSheet("QPushButton { color : white; }");
[13:52:08] jya_: and now on the mac, it looks like linux
[13:52:43] jya_: otherwise, with most themes, the settings on the mac are unusable… impossible to read black text (which is not configured) over a black background (which itself is customisable)
[13:53:26] jya_: most of the settings in qtlook.txt serve no purpose really..
[14:11:27] natanojl: jya_, stuartm: From http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qwidget.html#palette-prop&nb sp;: "In particular, certain styles like GTK style, Mac style, Windows XP, and Vista style, depend on third party APIs to render the content of widgets, and these styles typically do not follow the palette."
[14:11:56] jya_: natanojl: hence the use of stylesheet rather than QPalette
[14:12:16] jya_: right now, I’ve put in main.cpp : qApp->setStyleSheet("QLabel { color: white }");
[14:12:17] jya_: qApp->setStyleSheet("QTextEdit, QListView { "
[14:12:18] jya_: "background-color: white; "
[14:12:19] jya_: "} ");
[14:12:47] jya_: now all my labels are white. However, the text doesn’t use the same font , and it’s not bold now
[14:12:52] jya_: but at least it’s readable
[14:13:21] jya_: need to find where they defined the default linux stylesheet and just use that for the mac
[14:13:31] jya_: won’t look standard, but at least its usable

[14:30:27] jya_: now how to pass that extra arg to myth and bypass MythCommandLine
[14:33:42] jya_: anyone knows how to pass arguments that are going to be ignored my mythcommandline? something like — -style=blah?
