[10:37:52] stuartm: in 0.26 specifically

[10:41:33] stuartm: wagnerrp: in July you made the change to 0.27 and said "will likely need to be done for 0.26 once tmdb3.py gets a bit wider testing"

[11:33:37] caelor: I posted this earlier in -users, but am plodding through the services API, and had a query on Channel/GetChannelInfoList – I'm seeing all of the ChannelInfo objects returned are populated with 0 or empty strings
[11:35:21] caelor: I know the services API is still evolving, but from the wsdl, I'd have expected the call to work (I'm providing SourceId, and have tried with and without Count)
[11:47:12] stuartm: superm1: ok, the log shows that around 17:07 we stop receiving BACKEND_MESSAGE events, at 18:19 the frontend goes into idle mode and tries to tell the backend that it's allowed to shutdown
[11:49:35] paul-h (paul-h!~Paul@90.216.186.38) has joined #mythtv
[11:54:16] stuartm: it does this one both sockets, the control (playback) socket and the event socket – the message to the event socket fails receives an OK but it seems to be expecting more data which it never receives – "Error, timed out after 30000 ms"
[11:56:06] stuartm: the fact that it's waiting for more data is odd, also it's strange that we're evening send ALLOW_SHUTDOWN to the event sock as the event socket is always in Monitor mode (not blocking)
[11:58:05] stuartm: there's definitely a problem in the reconnect code, it indicates that the event socket is reconnected but it's never used again
[12:08:27] stuartm: OK, my early guess about it failing to reconnect the event socket if the control socket is alive was right, SafeConnectToMasterServer() checks that the control socket is connected and if so aborts the reconnect

[12:35:28] stuartm: paul-h: that's fine by me, might check with jpabq first as the problem is specific to the modes he added and he might have a different approach
[12:36:02] paul-h: jpabq: you may be interested in ^ it seems most of DistributeButtons() is from a patch by you
[12:46:21] paul-h: Once I've commented on a ticket why do I keep getting 2 emails for every ticket change?
[12:48:05] superm1: stuartm: i'll grab the accompanying mythbackend log code to pastebin and see if the backend stopped sending messages around that time too

[13:00:04] stuartm: that suggests it was the stuff at 18:19 that was the cause of the problem, namely it deciding that the socket was dead (it wasn't) then it trying and failing to reconnect it (now fixed)
[13:00:53] stuartm: just need to work out why ReadStringListReal() was expecting more than OK in the reply and therefore why it timed out

[18:29:57] stuartm: paul-h: 96MB is pretty large for the cache considering the image cache is only 30MB
[18:32:05] danielk22: dblain: We generally do, but it isn't as important as when a function goes away or a class signature changes. Those are the ones that cause linking failures or worse.

[18:33:08] paul-h: stuartm: The cache used for the text and shape images appears to be 96M unless I'm reading the code wrong http://code.mythtv.org/cgit/mythtv/tree/mytht . . . nter.cpp#n22

[18:40:26] natanojl: stuartm: If you use scrolling text you can fill it pretty fast since there is one image stored per position

[19:14:47] stichnot: stuartm: Closed captions / teletext captions can eat up the string/image cache pretty quickly, especially if you're using large font sizes
[19:17:37] stuartm: there's almost no point caching those as the repeat rate would be so slow
[19:17:42] jpabq: stuartm: paul-h, The earliest I could look at it will be 5 hours from now. If you want to push that change in for the the 0.27 release, that is fine with me. If a better fix presents itself, it can be backported to fixes later...

[19:20:00] dekarl: fwiw 96M for a texture cache can be gone quite fast with only 3 (three) background images/shapes * 2k*2k (to get proper power of two for a texture 1920x1080) * 4 (32bit unpacked) * 2 (for the mipmaps so we can have nice and fast effects)
[19:25:00] stichnot: stuartm: you do get some caching benefit with paint-on captions, where all but the last line are fixed while the last line keeps growing, and with captions being redrawn so frequently, this is just the situation where you want the caching.
[19:27:09] stichnot: and if we split captions into words, maybe we could get even more benefit :)

[21:13:54] stuarta: who on earth runs mythtv in a VM?
[21:14:46] dekarl: nice, guide source count *1* is not only used more often then *no guide source* but it broke the 50% line :)
[21:19:42] stuarta: well that need a bit of work...
[21:20:02] jheizer: stuarta: my friend who has been posted on the users list with all the recordings that fail. ESX is amazing to those types. Thought he is finally removing it tonight.
[21:26:15] jpabq: Heh, I just tried to submit my hardware profile: "Encountered a problem while submitting your profile".
[21:26:23] danielk22 (danielk22!~danielk@exchange.wgen.net) has left #mythtv ()
[21:26:30] jpabq: Makes me wonder how accurate those stats are...
[21:42:19] stuartm: posted news, tried something different this time
[21:42:26] stuartm: if you notice any mistakes then let me know
[21:43:14] peper03: stuartm: "unless your" -> you're
[21:44:10] peper03: "is which" -> "in which"
[21:44:23] stuartm: spotted that one too, fixed it at the same time
[21:44:27] stuartm: thanks
[21:45:11] stuartm: if anyone wants to re-word it then go ahead, I won't be offended
[21:45:22] peper03: Looks good. Well done everyone!

[21:58:36] bill6502: stuartm: ^^^ np, the 0.27 release notes have been updated, removing the 'in development' notes and adding the final release. I'm working on adding the last 266 commits off-line. sgd Llib (I had my imagination removed years ago and spell things backwards now)
[22:00:58] peper03: bill6502: I just updated the "Disc playback" section with my change for #11829 in case you want to add that to your off-line copy to avoid conflicts.

[22:19:18] stuartm: fixed
[22:21:01] wagnerrp_: stuartm: Could you check mythscreenwizard to see if it behaves properly. If not, marking it as a "friend" class in the library is a quick fix I know works.
[22:25:07] stuartm: wagnerrp_: seems to work fine here, only real issue that I'm noticing is that it's very difficult to read the instructions because of the text in the background image (mythcenter-wide)
[22:26:09] stuartm: works really well in fact
[22:27:18] wagnerrp_: Ok. Thanks. I'm going to need to put some kind of error code on screen when it refuses to run in a window.
[22:27:44] wagnerrp_: Right now, it just silently terminates, so it looks like the menu option is broken.
[22:28:13] stuartm: it was fullscreen here, xinerama – correctly displayed on the second screen
