[00:01:06] xris: jya: http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10813
[00:01:49] jya: I wanted to tweak things there anyway…. like for openssl detection, we use our own (added by markk for RAOP support) but it should enable ffmpeg's openssl too so we get free https support
[00:03:04] jya: oh… i'm looking at the log of ffmpeg's configure to see when crystalhd was added. i'm reading the comment about the new libavresample… it does a lot of stuff we already do
[00:03:28] jya: maybe should remove our code and use ffmpeg's one instead. though I'm rather proud of that code in myth
[00:05:25] xris: well, no real hurry for me. something else is broken in the current build for me, and it's not ffmpeg.
[00:05:50] jya: so xris, to summarise: you want to have crystalhd disabled by default ?
[00:05:56] xris: sure
[00:06:21] xris: well, more specifically.. disabled by default, and when disabled in myth, also disabled in ffmpeg, even if the libs are installed.
[00:06:32] jya: i made a mistake: in ffmpeg, crystalhd is enabled by default, it's the comment in the configure help that is incorrect
[00:07:10] jya: so crystalhd as it is today, will be built unless you call --disable-crystalhd
[00:07:31] jya: or are you seeing something differently?

[00:49:46] xris: jya: you are correct. in the rpm build script, I was sending --enable-crystalhd or nothing at all. When sending nothing, ffmpeg would try to build crystalhd support (which breaks in fedora 17, presumably from too-new-gcc problems).
[00:50:35] jya: xris: yes… the bug is just in the doc ...
[00:50:41] xris: now that I've removed the crystalhd libraries from my machine, sending "nothing" prevents ffmpeg from trying to build, so it's all good from my perspective — would still be good to get myth's configure stuff in sync with ffmpeg
[00:50:50] xris: anyway, past time for me to go home. later.
[00:51:24] jya: though I did notice 3 lines that serve no purpose anymore line 4323 to 4327
[00:53:07] jya: the issue would be the same with vdpau, crystalhd , vaapi and dxva2
[00:53:52] jya: they are enabled by default, yet the configure --help suggests that it's disabled by default and only provide help for --enable-XXXX

[08:46:10] stuartm: jya: what xris was saying earlier was that if you --enable-opengl but it cannot find the opengl libs then configure will still run to completion even though it won't build with opengl – what it should do is abort if you've explicitly requested something be enabled and it's unable to comply
[08:47:26] stuartm: opengl was just one example here, albeit one I recently ran into when trying to compile for the Raspberry Pi
[08:47:46] jya: stuartm: yes, I got what xris was saying :)
[08:48:46] jya: having said that, it's a behaviour like another, I don't see that one is better than another… the way it works now make it easier for packager…
[08:49:35] jya: problem is more with how *we* are using it.. ffmpeg by default is that everything is enabled/autodeteced. if you want to remove things, you use --disable. the --enable is usefull if you first did --disable-all
[08:50:20] stuartm: yeah, it's a little different for the ffmpeg stuff

[22:19:11] gigem: danielk22: I was waiting for some jobs to finish at work, so I figured I'd take a look. I don't know of anything else that is broken for sure, but I suspect there might be problems with recurring, manual recordings, at least the Monday-Friday variety.
[22:19:15] gigem: Also, the non-handling of DST/ST when converting existing recordings bugs me. I'll probably take a stab at checking for working time zone support in the DB and iff it appears to exist, use CONVERT_TZ instead of utc_offset. I'll send that out for review before I commit anything.
[22:22:27] wagnerrp: the recent slave backend issue was during the time zone check, right?
[22:24:19] wagnerrp: gigem: yeah, b119cf2450b48... why do we still need matching timezones?
[22:30:14] gigem: wagnerrp: We probably don't, but I'll defer to danielk22 since he's been thinkg about ans working with the UTC implications for a long while.
[22:33:41] pheld (pheld!~heldal@cl-5.osl-01.no.sixxs.net) has quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[22:50:04] sphery: wagnerrp: we don't, but danielk added back QUERY_TIME_ZONE (which he had replaced with QUERY_TIME) so that MythWeb could use it. Since it returns the time as well as the zone identifier, instead of having both QUERY_TIME and QUERY_TIME_ZONE, there's just QUERY_TIME_ZONE. We check the time to make sure clocks aren't off by more than 5min (warning) or 20min (exit)
[22:50:37] sphery: so remote backends are simply using it to find time on master backend so they can tell users to fix the broken clocks
[22:52:05] sphery: and, FWIW, I replied to the question about MySQL time zone support on -dev list, but for some reason it hasn't gone through...
[22:53:28] wagnerrp: ah, ok
[22:55:45] sphery: gigem: Speaking of which, is the benefit of using CONVERT_TZ in the custom rules (as opposed to doing a conversion/replacement in customedit.cpp (similar to how we do for title/subtitle on a couple of them) worth the danger (since I have a feeling most users don't have zone data loaded)? Only benefits I can see are a) users see numbers that kind of look like prime time hours in the ugly SQL, b) if you move to a new zone, you don't have to ...
[22:55:51] sphery: ... re-create/update your rule. On the down sides, it makes the SQL even uglier/harder for non-techies to understand and relies on having zone info loaded.
[22:56:41] sphery: I'm guessing that most distros don't actually load the zone data into MySQL (and I know MySQL installation doesn't do it), but I may be wrong about distros...
[23:12:51] danielk22: superm1: Do you know if ubuntu loads the timezone info into mysql?

[23:14:05] danielk22: sphery: mythweb relies on the timezone data, so it may be more commonly loaded than we think. Although I do know I've had to manually load it more than once. I don't recall if that was on Linux systems or Sun or other..

[23:18:24] danielk22: gigem: Another option for converting is to pull the times into Qt and write them back out. The number of times in the recording related tables is trivial compared to the times in program & friends.
