[01:24:49] xavierh: full story, I am reimplementing #10053 in a non invasive way, I have a MythInputEvent class which inherit from QKeyEvent, this class is only used in directly in MythMainWindow::TranslateKeyPress (works) and In mythcontrol key grabber(does not work)
[01:25:29] xavierh: I suspect that If the key grabber is implemented in libmythui it will then work

[12:47:40] danielk22: xavierh: QObject places restrictions on C++ inheritance, notably only one of the parents may be QObject derived and the QObject must be first. i.e. class X : public QObject, public OtherNonQObjectDerivedClass { }; AND virtual inheritance with QObject is NOT supported.
[12:50:46] danielk22: Most UI classes in Qt are QObject derived so multiple inheritance in UI code is often, but not always, a segfault causing bug.

[20:04:11] markk: GreyFoxx: how much video memory do you have?
[20:13:54] danielk22: Captain_Murdoch: I did. I'm not sure the readsallowed change is safe, I'll need to sit down and spend some time looking at the code as it currently exists. Changing the threshold for ringbuffer use should be totally safe.
[20:27:46] stuartm: does anyone think there are enough good reasons to add a new system event parameter indicating whether the video being played back is HD or SD? I have a single use case but it won't apply to many people and I don't want to add new parameters without sufficient justification
[20:29:54] stuartm: * I have a script which ups my minimum processor frequency to allow vdpau to work correctly with HD material (memory bandwidth is limited by clock speed for IGPs) – if I know when the video/recording is SD instead of HD I can save a small amount of power and fan noise by not upping the clock speed

[21:03:29] markk: taylorr: I was prompted by an xbmc commit I noticed:) and then remembered you'd made a few commits – but haven't actually done anything with it yet. I don't think I have any bd material with forced subs – though for the dvd's I have, the forced subs aren't a seprate track
[21:04:40] taylorr: markk: did xbmc beat us to it?
[21:05:09] markk: taylorr: may only have been a ticket – not sure if it's gone in yet
[21:06:00] taylorr: I updated the pgs decoder for libavcodec to support detecting subtitles segments flagged as forced
[21:06:37] taylorr: I'd like you opinions on how the end-user experience should be
[21:08:56] taylorr: it really has three parts 1) automatically enabling subtitles if any pgs subtitles exist and only display the segments flagged forced 2) automatically select the preferred pgs subtitle track and 3) how the OSD menu should work to enable full or forced_only subtitles
[21:12:24] markk: taylorr: are there whole tracks purely for forced subs? that are additional to the regulat (e.g. English language) stream
[21:12:38] markk: ..track
[21:12:43] danielk22: Captain_Murdoch: it looks like you added delete calls where delete[] calls were required...
[21:13:20] taylorr: markk: it sounds like there might be but I don't if that means that the main track doesn't have them or not
[21:13:44] taylorr: I researched it and netflixed some and couldn't find anything that was done that way
[21:14:52] taylorr: the reality is that we might not be able to handle some oddball cases correctly (if they exist)
[21:15:47] markk: taylorr: ok – quick google suggests it's a mix :(
[21:17:59] taylorr: markk: seems to be 3 types for Bluray 1) hardcoded (we don't need to worry about these) 2) segments marked "forced" in the pgs stream 3) a separate track with only forced subtitles
[21:19:10] taylorr: maybe libbluray can provide the correct info but for any other type of container we will be at the mercy of the encoder/container
[21:19:31] taylorr: matroska support a "forced track" flag
[21:19:42] markk: taylorr: my preferred solution is to decide what the subtitle language (and hence track) should be in line with the audio track selection and automatically display the forced subs. Every time I've seen forced subs on dvd's, you lose something if they're not displayed. The minor downside is that we have to decode every av subtitle to determine whether it is forced.
[21:19:52] markk: Not sure how to deal with different track
[21:20:08] taylorr: markk: totally agreed
[21:20:23] markk: taylorr: so no additional setup
[21:20:31] taylorr: I only updated libavcoded for PGS subs... so no DVD support
[21:20:53] taylorr: I didn't know that DVD subs had forced segment support
[21:22:04] markk: taylorr: that much I did look at – should take about 3 lines of code to get the dvdringbuffer and dvdsubdec in ffmpeg to set the forced flag. (there are 2 different code paths atm)
[21:22:30] taylorr: ok... I already updated the AVSubtitle struct to have a forced field
[21:23:26] taylorr: so basically for starts just auto select a subtitle track and display only the forced segments
[21:23:47] taylorr: I'll try to create you some samples if I can make them
[21:25:26] taylorr: I was thinking for the OSD menu we add an additional sub-menu under Subtitles called "Forced Only" so basically a user could select a track and only have forced subs manually
[21:25:39] taylorr: ie. if the auto select didn't work correctly for them, etc
[21:27:28] markk: taylorr: hadn't really thought about it – but yes, we probably have to offer some control to manage those oddities that always crop up.
[21:28:08] taylorr: subtitle tracks can have different flags too... default, forced, etc
[21:29:02] taylorr: I guess the first thing to hash out is the AutoSelectSubtitle function which should be similar to AutoAudioSelect
[21:30:05] taylorr: markk: did you ever take a look at #9997
[21:31:12] markk: taylorr: I'd suggest getting the pure bd and dvd stuff working first and then trying to handle the 'containers' like mkv
[21:31:55] markk: re 9997 – I fed back to sphery (in a roundabout kind of way) that it was fine

[21:36:32] taylorr: markk: I don't have BD or DVD playback here so it will be hard for me to work on
[21:37:34] taylorr: and to be quite honest I don't care about forced subs since I always enable full subtitles due to problems with my hearing :)
[21:38:07] taylorr: I need to focus on proper duration and position support
[21:39:14] markk: taylorr: no worries – I think I can take care of it. Can't figure out where the current subtitle track selection is handled...

[22:11:18] GreyFoxx: Mark: The video card in question is an 8400GS (G98) with 512M. I have vdpaubuffersize=32 which I've had for a while since some videos has playback issues. The "problem" started one day when I did an update of my trunk check out. I haven't touched anything else.
[22:13:48] markk: GreyFoxx: If you're running trunk, you should no longer need the vdpaubuffersize setting – which will now add 32 buffers *in addition* to the calculated requirement.
[22:14:08] markk: which would explain the memory issue
[22:14:25] GreyFoxx: Hmmm, ok
[22:14:28] GreyFoxx: I'
[22:14:34] GreyFoxx: 'll try removing that
[22:15:04] GreyFoxx: I just found it odd that restarting the FE always would work, as if some resource wasn't being released until I killed the process
[22:15:18] GreyFoxx: but I'll give that a shot and see how it goes :) thanks for the idea
[22:22:30] markk: GreyFoxx: the current video memory consumption will depend on what theme you're running, what demands your recent activity has made on the video memory (i.e. displaying lots of fanart) and how long the OpenGL driver chooses to hold onto some memory. So I'd expect restarting to fix it – at least temporarily. so saving 32 HD video frames (which should equate to roughly 250MB of video memory)
[22:22:38] markk: will help
[22:22:45] xavierh: markk: VDPAU support is off but I still have the predefined VDPAU profiles (High, normal and slim)
[22:26:14] markk: xavierh: do you use VDPAU? (have an nvidia card installed with proprietary drivers) – the VDPAU profiles will be in the database for everyone but in the existing display profile editor they will be listed but the actual entries filtered out (if that makes sense)
[22:31:05] xavierh: markk: I am on my laptop, I don't use it for mythtv just for development, which is why VDPAU is not activated (I do have a nvidia 9500M on board with propitiatory driver, don't really know if VDPAU is suppose to work with this)
[22:31:58] xavierh: marrk: As VDPAU is not configure, should I still see this in the list of profile as it will not work anyway.
[22:33:48] markk: xavierh: if you've compiled without vdpau support, you shouldn't see it. On the other hand, I thought VDPAU was enabled by default if the correct headers are found???
[22:36:12] ** iamlindoro feels like we probably need to decide what ffmpeg fork to go with eventually, and start pushing some of these changes upstream **
[22:37:28] xavierh: marrk: I run configure to check if it was on or off, and it's off, but I might have compile with vdpau on a while ago, which would explain why the db hold the profile for vdpau,

[23:24:57] danielk22: iamlindoro: While one of the ffmpeg folks finally applied one of my patches recently which gives me the warm fuzzies, I've also seen a bunch of things get applied in libav that sat in buggy outside trees for years.
[23:27:26] danielk22: iamlindoro: It looks like AC-3 dialnorm support has finally arrived due to the libav, which will allow us to finally not have the volume jump on channel changes.
[23:33:48] Captain_Murdoch: danielk22, in the case of readsallowed, we know the data is in the buffer already because that's why we were allowed to optimize, so why should we have to wait until safe_read is called again? If anything else makes it unsafe, it would seem that we should fix that inside the seek optimization so that we can immediately re-read. I imagine this also affects non-DVD playback such as backward seeks in other ?low? bitrate material.
[23:33:48] Captain_Murdoch: depends on the bitrate and how much 'old' data is in the buffer I guess.
