[03:10:55] jafa: minor useful feature in the 20110323 libhdhomerun release... the discover call now returns the number of tuners for each device
[03:12:37] jafa: mythtv currently assumes 2 tuners
[03:13:15] jafa: is anyone poking at hdhomerun related code or should I put together a quick patch?
[03:14:14] jafa: (goal is to allow the user to configure the third tuner on a HDHomeRun Prime)
[03:15:54] Captain_Murdoch: my goal would be to be able to say I can tune the first tuner. :)
[03:16:03] MaverickTech (MaverickTech!~MaverickT@121.91.60.115) has quit (Ping timeout: 276 seconds)
[03:16:04] Captain_Murdoch: not sure if anyone is messing in that area right now.
[03:16:17] wagnerrp: wouldnt that be the second tuner?
[03:16:40] jafa: been running mythtv with cablecard for about a year now
[03:16:50] Captain_Murdoch: 3rd tuner is #2. :)
[03:17:06] Captain_Murdoch: jafa, but if _I_ could say it that would mean I have one in-hand. :)
[03:17:20] jafa: good point :)
[03:17:33] wagnerrp: jafa: hes referring to the fact that you cannot buy one... im referring to the bug in our version of the libraries when accessing the IP directly
[03:18:07] Captain_Murdoch: wagnerrp, ah, I thought you were playing on 0 as the starting number.
[03:18:11] jafa: what is the IP bug?
[03:18:57] wagnerrp: something that came in with the 20100211 library
[03:19:01] wagnerrp: or something around there
[03:19:19] jafa: happy to test/fix... what is the issue?
[03:19:32] wagnerrp: when we imported it prior to 0.23, it resulted in anomalous recording issues, so we reverted it
[03:19:46] wagnerrp: same thing happened prior to 0.24 when you guys wrote up new patches with the new libraries
[03:20:05] wagnerrp: one of the users tracked it down to using IP addresses rather than the autodetect id
[03:20:16] jafa: what is the symptom?
[03:20:20] wagnerrp: seems when youre using an IP address to access the device, it always uses the first tuner
[03:20:27] jafa: ah
[03:20:53] wagnerrp: so when you try to start up a second recording on the first tuner, it terminates the first
[03:21:15] wagnerrp: the backend just blindly sits there recording nothing until the first recording has ended
[03:21:24] wagnerrp: at which point it tells the HDHR to stop streaming
[03:21:30] wagnerrp: which terminates the second recording as well
[03:21:56] wagnerrp: it doesnt show up in your libhdhomerun, so its some conflict within our own code
[03:22:01] wagnerrp: and while particularly nasty
[03:22:11] wagnerrp: its easily avoidable by just using the autodetect id
[03:22:20] wagnerrp: so no one has bothered fixing it
[03:22:27] wagnerrp: ive got a ticket open somewhere
[03:22:29] jafa: i don't think mythtv uses the libhdhomrun device object – it uses manual commands which include the tuner number
[03:23:17] jafa: i will take a look when I get a chance
[03:23:34] wagnerrp: http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/9247
[03:23:37] jafa: where is mythtv in the release cycle?
[03:24:21] wagnerrp: 0.25 is planned to include the web setup run by the backend
[03:24:29] wagnerrp: which is still nearly non-existent
[03:24:31] jafa: assigned to me – oops... will chase up
[03:24:36] wagnerrp: so were at least a couple months out
[03:24:49] wagnerrp: jafa: well as mentioned, its easily avoidable... so no rush

[04:05:53] Captain_Murdoch: wagnerrp, I doubt we'll hold off on 0.25 until web setup is done. that could be 6+ months easily at the rate we're going.
[04:06:35] ** Captain_Murdoch is about to merge mythtvsetup-www back into master though, so hopefully we'll get some more progress on it if people want to work on something. **
[04:07:19] Captain_Murdoch: just need to run with "MYTHHTMLSETUP=1 mythbackend" to enable it since we don't have any authentication setup yet.

[04:53:02] Captain_Murdoch: I don't understand the commit log saying it merged 'master' into mythtvsetup-www when it was the other way around, but since I don't see things reverted in files listed, it seems it did what I was expecting and merged the mythtvsetup-www changes into master.
[04:53:24] markk: Captain_Murdoch: just having a look at the html setup stuff – clicking setup gives me a blank page. Am I missing something?
[04:53:36] Captain_Murdoch: set the env var. :)
[04:53:41] Captain_Murdoch: MYTHHTMLSETUP=1 mythbackend
[04:53:50] Captain_Murdoch: since we don't have authentication, it's disabled by default.
[04:54:12] Captain_Murdoch: otherwise anyone with a web browser on the network could start messing with things.
[04:54:41] Captain_Murdoch: once we have authentication hooked up, we can remove the getenv() checks protecting /setup/* and /Config/* URLs.
[04:55:08] markk: hrm – no love (double checked, it was already set)
[04:55:15] Captain_Murdoch: right now the only editting you can do is add/remove Storage Group dirs. other save functionality isn't hooked up yet.
[04:55:43] markk: I get the status page, wsdl links – but no setup
[04:56:18] Captain_Murdoch: try http://backendIP:6544/setup/ or http://backendIP:6544/Config/General and see if you get anything for those.
[04:57:12] Captain_Murdoch: also, is javascript enabled?
[04:57:14] dserban__ (dserban__!~dserban@S0106001346beb5f3.ok.shawcable.net) has joined #mythtv
[04:57:30] Captain_Murdoch: actually, nevermind, /setup is an actual html file. /setup/index.html
[04:58:56] Captain_Murdoch: if setup is blocked, you should get a page saying so.
[04:59:45] Captain_Murdoch: saying "Web-based Setup is currently disabled."
[05:00:05] markk: did my last comment get through?
[05:00:07] Captain_Murdoch: and a warning gets printed in the log for now.
[05:00:16] Captain_Murdoch: nothing since the one saying you can see status and wsdl links
[05:00:56] markk: ok – don't know what happened there. Config/General works fine, nothing on setup or setup/index.html
[05:01:30] Captain_Murdoch: hmm. is javascript enabled?
[05:01:46] markk: yes
[05:02:52] Captain_Murdoch: try /setup/index.html or /setup/storagegroups.html just to see if you can see those. storagegroups.html will be blank except for a header, it's meant to be embedded in a div on the main setup page so it doesn't work standalone.
[05:04:45] Captain_Murdoch: ah, nevermind. I know what it is.
[05:04:54] Captain_Murdoch: my fault. missed something in the .pro file.
[05:05:00] Captain_Murdoch: gimme a minute.
[05:08:01] Captain_Murdoch: markk, ok, sorry about that. git pull again, then run qmake in the mythtv/html subdir and make install from that dir. the setup subdir wasn't being installed.

[05:13:13] Captain_Murdoch: no. :( I must need sleep.
[05:14:15] Captain_Murdoch: ok, :) it's committed and pushed now.
[05:14:29] Captain_Murdoch: I'll blame that one on the paint fumes.

[05:15:01] markk: ok – got it working :) (looking good)
[05:15:09] Captain_Murdoch: sorry for the trouble.
[05:16:42] markk: no problem :)
[05:17:15] Captain_Murdoch: SG editor is live, other screens are read-only. I haven't messed a lot with daniel's patch much for the 'general' and 'database' page. I made it so they could be embedded or used directly as /Config/Database and /Config/General. still needs a lot of glue for things like saving, browser-based and backend data validation before saving, etc..
[05:17:24] markk: all we need now is for that storage group list to include music and pictures :)
[05:17:40] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, will be nice.
[05:21:10] kormoc_afk is now known as kormoc
[05:27:18] Captain_Murdoch: I'm by no means a UI or web designer, so if anyone has ideas or code. I know what is there needs cleanup, TLC, etc.. It will be much easier to work on if we don't have to run in another branch though, that was the main motivation for getting it into master sooner rather than later.
[05:27:52] ** Captain_Murdoch heads to bed, so he can maybe get a half hour sleep before the baby wakes up again. **

[20:07:38] Captain_Murdoch: dblain, nice. :) I was just looking at the sample .qsp file while I recompiled.

[20:07:59] Captain_Murdoch: could redo my hosts select box using that
[20:08:51] dblain: It's a simplistic approach to server side scripting, but it should work until someone replaces/makes it better.
[20:10:17] Captain_Murdoch: is "new Myth()" basically /Myth? and myth.GetHosts() == /Myth/GetHosts?
[20:11:13] dblain: yes, it uses the same code, but no, it doesn't make a web call. The new Myth() is actually creating an instance of the Myth API class.
[20:12:46] dblain: Any of the api classes we have is accessible that way.

[21:17:06] Captain_Murdoch: no problem. I thought about converting that to qsp, but if we need it in multiple places, it may be better to generate in javascript once and just print that string anywhere we need it.

[23:49:22] Captain_Murdoch: dblain, have only given it limited thought. that is daniel's code. I think the main thought behind it is that new generic settings (in the settings table) don't require any c++ code, all the info about the setting is in the xml. so adding a new setting is just a few lines of xml. I like the simplicity of it. we need to store info about the description, acceptable values, etc., and the API itself doesn't seem the place to do t
[23:49:22] Captain_Murdoch: hat.
[23:51:29] dblain: xml for that info is fine. I'm thinking more of the implementation details. It's using the old httpextension model which means other parts of the system can't leverage the functions (granted, they are settings specific), but it would be nice to use them from the .qsp.
[23:52:14] Captain_Murdoch: dblain, what would it take, or what do you think, about having a "tr()" call inside the qsp files? that would allow us to do translation in the backend on all webpages served. we could have a script to pull out all "tr()" string values out of the html dir and put them in a file to be translated with the rest of the source.
[23:53:11] Captain_Murdoch: was typing that before you replied. :)
[23:53:25] dblain: I'm not sure what it would take, but I think you could just use the current tr() support in Qt.
[23:53:41] Number6 (Number6!~number6@zoidberg.geoghegan.me) has left #mythtv ()
[23:53:53] Captain_Murdoch: I guess I'm not sure how the xml code would get integrated. I haven't wrapped my head around all your new functionality yet. :|
[23:53:54] dblain: There are a lot of things that "just work" in the Qt scripting env.
[23:54:11] Captain_Murdoch: ok, that would be nice. I was wondering ifwe'd have access to tr() inside there.
[23:54:30] dblain: If we don't automatically, we certainly could add it.
[23:54:59] Captain_Murdoch: so instead of <td>Host:</td> we'd have something like <td><%= tr("Host") %></td>
[23:55:28] Captain_Murdoch: and that would get translated even inside javascript I assume.
[23:55:36] knightr: Captain_Murdoch, not sure lupdate would know how to process this...
[23:55:54] Captain_Murdoch: knightr, we'd have to have a string conversion script to pull them out like the theme script
[23:55:57] dblain: Take a look at the simple QTextStream wrapper class I used to expose writing to the stream from the script. (serverSideScripting.h)
[23:56:11] knightr: ok, just like themestrings/themestringtool...
[23:56:57] dblain: Don't get me wrong, if you think having a different way to handle translations in the html is better, go for it. Just trying not to duplicate efforts.
[23:56:58] knightr: If it's part of the backend though the translation file would have to be loaded which is not the case right now....
[23:57:24] knightr: (the current tr() calls in the backend do nothing because of that...)
[23:58:25] dblain: Captain_Murdoch: as for the MythSettings code. If I can find the time, would you mind if I converted it as-is to the new API format? I won't change the functionality at all (it will still return html strings)
[23:58:55] Captain_Murdoch: sure, feel free. I haven't touched that code much except to make it embedable inside a div on an existing page.
