[00:11:57] sphery: paul-h: Thanks. It seems I forgot to refresh my patch after I fixed that on my local copy.

[00:15:53] stuarta: 314 ciHandler->SetTimeOffset(offset_in_seconds);
[00:16:18] stuarta: i haven't got a CAM so dunno why it's calling the CAM code other than there may be encrypted channels
[00:16:29] stuarta: anyway bed time...
[00:16:40] stuarta: that's head as of a few hours ago btw.
[00:36:55] dblain (dblain!~dblain@mythtv/developer/dblain) has joined #mythtv
[00:47:35] danielk22: stuarta: DVBRecorder::SetTimeOffset() is always called when we get a time and DVBCam is always created for a DVB tuner.. But we should probably test whether ciHandler is NULL in DVBCam, since it is possible for it not to initialize...
[00:51:25] danielk22: Beirdo: stuarta: it looks like ciThreadRunning is never set in DVBCam.. related to the threading changes?

[00:57:57] danielk22: stuarta: you can cherry pick a628797 .. I didn't address the ciThreadRunning issue, just checked ciHandler before using the pointer.

[01:17:22] Beirdo: OK, I'll look at the ciThreadRunning part
[01:19:03] Beirdo: ahhh
[01:19:09] Beirdo: I missed a spot :)
[01:19:10] danielk22: Beirdo: I only applied the patch in mythtv-rec2, but it will cherry pick cleanly.

[01:21:41] Beirdo: I had it pretty much identical for testing :)
[01:22:15] Beirdo: but hadn't pushed it yet. So, I think cherry-pick that, and I have the other part done too just now
[01:23:21] wagnerrp: dblain: didnt know anyone still used trillian for IRC
[01:28:05] Beirdo: there we go.

[02:15:20] wagnerrp: heh, i just never much liked their irc plugin... odd considering they started out solely as an irc client

[02:24:08] dblain: any recommendation for windows?
[02:25:26] wagnerrp: none off hand, i just run xchat on my BSD box over cygwin/x
[02:26:23] ** dblain knows he is in the minority running windows as his primary desktop **

[02:28:28] wagnerrp: actually, i didnt think irc was enabled on the free version of trillian
[02:29:12] dblain: yep, it works okay. What bothers me the most is that it leaves the channel if you close the chat window.
[02:29:31] ** wagnerrp was a paying member since .63 (well it was donations at that point) **
[02:30:28] dblain: I started using it for (cough, cough) AIM and it just stuck. Liked the older versions better.

[04:24:16] Beirdo: possibly, but really, if it's deadlocked, the way we debug will need the backtrace :)
[04:24:27] Anssi (Anssi!hannulaa@mandriva/developer/anssi) has joined #mythtv
[04:24:38] Beirdo: but certainly, we'd need logs
[04:25:36] Beirdo: I dunno, we did put up a debugging page saying how to deal with deadlocks/crashes, did we not?
[04:26:52] Beirdo: certainly need more than one line of an strace that just shows locking on some mutex
[04:30:24] knightr: Beirdo, Hi! I didn't try the patch on ticket #9657 but I can definitely confirm the change...
[04:32:36] Beirdo: cool, thanks. I'll go take a good look at it in a moment
[04:34:15] Beirdo: probably better to make it allow either in case they switch back, but that should do
[04:35:04] danielk22: Beirdo: heh, yes the strace isn't very useful and obviously the backtrace would be. Just pointing out that there might be another way if it is that particular type of problem.
[04:35:22] knightr: Beirdo, np thanks!

[22:26:50] paul-h: markk: my guess would be the hash in MythPainter::GetImageFromRect() isn't distinguishing between rects with similar gradients

[22:40:47] dblain: Does anyone know how to take void * that is initialized to a pointer to a QObject derived class and cast it directly to a QObject *? (We don't know what the derived type is)
[22:41:28] dblain: dynamic_cast<> doesn't seem to work with a void *
[22:45:03] stuartm: dblain: have you thought about using QVariant instead of a void pointer?
[22:45:28] dblain: I am using QVariant.
[22:46:05] dblain: The problem is that the QVariant stores user types as void * and won't cast/convert to QObject *.
[22:48:21] stuartm: so qVariantValue<QObject *>(foo) doesn't work?
[22:49:18] dblain: Let me try... (I've used may variation of methods, but not that one!)
[22:53:18] dblain: Nope. Returns NULL. Walking through the Qt code, that method only works for Qt types (returns T() for usertypes)
[22:53:30] stuartm: I've never used it, especially not with a user type, and it might not be suitable for your purpose, but QVariant does offer some methods to determine the type so you can cast direct to the correct value
[22:54:01] stuartm: dblain: it works for user types, I've used it throughout the frontend, but obviously not when casting to a different type
[22:54:10] dblain: This is for the serialization classes. We don't know or have access to the derived types.
[22:55:05] dblain: Strange, that the Qt code I walked through didn't deal with it correctly.
[22:55:12] stuartm: dblain: noted – are you casting the pointers to QObject before assigning them to QVariant?
[22:56:04] dblain: Well, that's the problem. This is for the Q_PROPERTY entries in the data classes. Currently they are written to be of type QObject* and work as expected.
[22:56:51] dblain: The problem is, in the WSDL generation code, when I walk the data type, it only sees the properties as QObjects and can't figure out what type they really are.
[22:57:09] stuartm: hmm
[22:57:37] dblain: so I switched the Q_PROPERTY to return DatabaseInfo* (in this case), registered the types with Qt, and now the wsdl works, but the serialization doesn't.
[22:58:33] dblain: When it reads the properties value, I get back a const void * and can't cast it to QObject* because it's really a DatabaseInfo *
[22:59:40] dblain: I've even tried re-writing the wsdl code to figure out that tehe QObject* is really something else, but I haven't found the right foo to get the created type information.
[22:59:55] stuartm: I'm sure there's a solution, but it's eluding me at the moment
[23:00:22] dblain: Well, it's still nice to vent to someone! thanks.
[23:01:00] stuartm: I'm calling it a night, if you haven't figured out something by the time I'm up tomorrow I'll give it some more thought :)
[23:01:02] dblain: Maybe I just need to walk away and the solution will come to me when I'm least expecting it.
[23:01:16] stuartm: dblain: that's normally how it works for me
[23:01:37] dblain: Thanks, don't put too much effort into it. I'm sure I'll figure something out.
