[08:13:50] Beirdo: heya
[08:14:04] Beirdo: I was just about to head to bed, but saw your email.
[08:14:38] Beirdo: if you have your ffmpeg backport stuff well contained, I don't see any reason why you can't go forward that way
[08:15:12] Beirdo: that way whenever someone does the resync (be it me, you, or whoever), it will be simple to make sure we do it cleanly, etc
[08:16:49] Beirdo: as for timing, if we use the sync I have, we need someone who knows the mpegts stuff to give it a good once-over first
[08:17:16] Beirdo: I am using it here in production, but may not be stressing all the different parts :)

[08:38:48] jya: sorry, I didn't see you were here
[08:39:13] jya: A quick question recording the NuppelVideoEncoder
[08:39:23] jya: Beirdo: still up?
[08:40:06] jya: The NVP recorder, can only manage three type of audio currently with the constant defined: LAME (mp3), RAWA and AC3
[08:40:38] jya: I was looking at adding in the recording profile the ability to store the original audio stream.
[08:40:57] jya: currently only LAME and RAWA are supported.
[08:43:04] jya: I can add my own 4 letters ID to allow decoding ; but I was wondering if that would break any NVP *standard*
[08:43:32] Beirdo: I don't know that there is any standard per se
[08:43:46] jya: it's stored as a 4 letters in the NVP
[08:43:51] jya: most video codecs are defined
[08:44:03] jya: but for audio, it's rather scarce :P
[08:44:05] Beirdo: yeah, likely a 4CC, but I don't know for playback.
[08:44:39] Beirdo: I don't think nuppel really had any standards
[08:44:39] jya: I see there's a "transcodeless" setting, which is supposed to leave audio and video as-is
[08:44:49] jya: that is true for video, but for audio it converts it to MP3
[08:44:56] jya: which only works for 16 bits audio
[08:45:10] Beirdo: Isaac and Daniel may know better on the "standards" part there
[08:45:22] Beirdo: yeah, certainly limiting as is
[08:45:25] jya: it's really messy that code, full of constants everwhere, defined as string
[08:45:34] Beirdo: hehe, so true
[08:45:44] jya: it's all over the place
[08:45:54] Beirdo: I have the threads for NVR redone
[08:46:15] Beirdo: but I haven't pushed it yet as I don't know if I can easily test it
[08:46:44] Beirdo: was going to tweak it a bit with a PVR250 tomorrow
[08:46:56] jya: so is it okay if I had basic detection for the most common audio codec (ac3, dts, aac, mp3, and if not just convert as mp3?
[08:47:43] jya: currently it does something like: if (codec == "MP3" then ... elsie if codec == "Uncompressed" else : unknown codec
[08:47:46] Beirdo: I would think so, but be sure to pass it past Daniel if you can. He's doing much of the recording rewrite stuff
[08:48:29] jya: I'm afraid I got myself in muddy water
[08:48:52] jya: I thought adding passthrough audio would be just a matter of writing the audio stream in the container
[08:48:54] jya: not quite
[08:49:23] Beirdo: heh, figures
[08:49:47] Beirdo: anyways, I'm about to pass out, I should go to bed before I end up messing up code or something dumb
[08:49:48] jya: oh! surprise! "ONE" comment in nuppeldecoder.cpp :)
[08:49:58] jya: allright, goodnight :)
[08:50:31] Beirdo: wow, that's one more than expected
[08:50:38] Beirdo: talk to ya later, I'm sure :)

[16:07:15] danielk22: jpabq: Any idea of the history of that? It appears to be what is breaking LiveTV for the hd-pvr
[16:09:17] danielk22: jpabq: It's attached to this... http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/6602 reading...
[16:11:01] danielk22: gah, the [24144] link is broken :| I loathe git more every passing day.
[16:11:03] MythLogBot: SVN 24144: (branch master) https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/002b9c2c
[16:11:28] danielk22: heh, thanks mythlogbot :)
[16:12:09] jpabq: danielk22, you are saying that we don't wont to treat a new "file" as a stand-alone (autonomous) recording?
[16:15:53] danielk22: jpabq: We should, but the problem is that with that change we drop all data between the time the _wait_for_keyframe_option is set and the next keyframe. Since we don't call the reset until we have hit the start of a keyframe we dump all the frames between the two keyframes which is about 2 seconds of data.
[16:16:23] jpabq: Ah. okay, that makes sense.
[16:17:16] danielk22: The real problem is probably that the m_h264_parser doesn't tell us about the keyframe until we are several TS packets into it..
[16:17:30] jpabq: So, it is not the Reset() that at is the problem, it is the _wait_for_keyframe_option = true
[16:17:38] danielk22: yes
[16:18:06] jpabq: ... and the "new" H264Parser code is even worse about that — to fix BBC stuff.
[16:18:13] danielk22: as far as data loss is concerned. I'm still not sure why the reset is needed...
[16:18:39] jpabq: It probably isn't, considering the situation that that code is called.
[16:19:10] jpabq: I can take it out, and do a little testing.
[16:19:26] danielk22: but there must have been something that mark b was running into? probably should have asked him for a backtrace of the frontend faults..
[16:20:06] jpabq: I can send him an email. It is possible that he made some bad assumptions (just like I did) there.

[16:26:21] jpabq: I sent Mark B. an email. I am going to be offline for a little bit...
[16:30:50] danielk22: Beirdo: I'm glad you are looking into the QThread conversion. Keep an eye out for memory leaks though; one of the reasons we didn't jump into it before is that QObjects leak memory if they are created from within a QThread's run() unless the QThread is running an event loop to do the cleanups.
[16:49:49] danielk22: I believe calling QCoreApplication::processEvents(QEventLoop::DeferredDeletion); periodically would work, but that is depreciated. I'm not sure if you are really supposed to use QThread + the heap (new) without an event loop.

[16:57:37] danielk22: Beirdo: From what I can tell from google that processEvent call will not work with Qt 4.7. You now must call exec() from within every QThread::run() for the deferred deletes to be processed :|
[17:01:32] danielk22: Anyway most threads on the backend will not use deferred deletes. But anything using the more complicated Qt classes (like the http download or xml parser code) may have leaks. On the frontend I don't really know what the situation is.

[17:31:17] jpabq: danielk22, removing that block seems to work okay. Still get a two second pause on program change, but I think that is normal for any input type, right?
[17:37:43] danielk22: jpabq: no that's not normal, it's still dropping packets.. it's only about 20 ts packets.. but it's enough to cause libav to drop over a hundred frames..
[17:39:00] jpabq: okay. I thought I remembered the HDHomerun also having about a 2 second pause in that situation.
[17:39:44] danielk22: Dunno, the HDHomeRun may have a similar bug. There should be absolutely no pause on a livetv transition.

[18:41:54] danielk22: i.e. there is some other problem at work as well.. the good news is that all those video frames aren't missing anymore, but it does lose about one second of audio...
[18:43:07] danielk22: + I'm not sure how this change will interact with the keyframe map generation.
