[20:34:18] | nope: | Hi. I have a Hauppauge HD-PVR, which is working great with MythTV — except I'm having trouble changing the channel on my cablebox. I wrote a shell script to do the work (/usr/local/bin/channel), I have it specified as the "External channel change command", and I confirmed it's in the database properly ("select externalcommand from capturecard"). But, myth doesn't seem to run it :-/ |
[20:35:08] | nope: | I've also checked permissions on the shell script, etc. Hmm. Any other pointers for convincing myth to execute the program? Thanks! |
[21:50:15] | peterbennett: | nope: I used a channel change script a few years back without problems. I suggest you add a command to the script to write a message to a file and see if it gets there, to see if it is run. Do you have the appropriate hashbang in the script? |
[21:52:30] | nope: | peterbennett: Yup, I have a hashbang, and have debugging code in there to write out to /tmp when it runs. Really seems that mythtv just isn't executing it. I just noticed this in the backend logfile: |
[21:52:37] | nope: | Feb 3 13:33:07 mythtv mythbackend: mythbackend[422561]: W TVRecEvent recorders/channelbase.cpp:300 (HandleScript) ChannelBase[1]: A channel changer is set, but the freqid field is empty.#012#011#011#011We will return success to ease setup pains, but no script is will actually run. |
[21:53:20] | nope: | So, maybe my channels aren't setup properly. I'm in the channel editor now, and I see the frequency field... but it doesn't let me input a value for that field? |
[22:01:54] | Steve-Goodey (Steve-Goodey!~steve@2a00:23c5:7d83:6501:d1ff:6177:c50e:b4be) has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!) | |
[22:05:49] | peterbennett: | nope: freqid is used as the channel number to pass to the script as far as I remember. |
[22:07:36] | peterbennett: | nope: In channel editor there is a field called Frequency/Channel that you can update. |
[22:07:52] | peterbennett: | I think that is the freqid you need. |
[22:08:21] | peterbennett: | Normally set it the same as the channel number. Only in a weird case would they be different. |
[22:10:32] | peterbennett: | nope: I have no difficulty changing the freq/channel field |
[22:20:51] | nope: | I have fields called "Channel Number" (which I have set to the integer the cable box requires), "Service ID" (which I used to have blank, but in attempting to debug this problem, I changed to match the Channel Number). I also have fields called "Transport ID" and "Frequency", which I can't seem to edit in mythtv-setup. Hmm. |
[22:22:36] | nope: | The help text for "Frequency" says "Frequency of the transport of this channel in Hz (for DVB-T/T2 and DVB-C) or in kHz (for DVB-S/S2)." |
[22:23:40] | nope: | I have entered the channels I have by hand, not using a listing provider yet, which may be part of the problem? |
[22:25:08] | peterbennett: | Is that in mythtv-setup? |
[22:25:12] | nope: | Yeah |
[22:26:34] | peterbennett: | So in channel options common |
[22:27:18] | peterbennett: | I have channel name, channel number, frequency/channel, callsign, visible, service id, transport id |
[22:28:22] | nope: | Ah, I don't have "Frequency/Channel" under common, but I *do* have it under "Channel Options – Video4Linux" |
[22:28:30] | nope: | and it's empty :-) So maybe that's my problem. |
[22:28:58] | peterbennett: | yes that has to be set to the channel number your cable box or tuner or script understands |
[22:30:42] | peterbennett: | Maybe the way it displays the options is different for different types of tuners |
[22:31:30] | nope: | That worked, thank you! Whew. Okay, just need to populate that field for each channel. |
[22:32:19] | nope: | I guess "Channel Number" (as opposed to "Frequency/Channel") is an internal-to-myth identifier? |
[22:34:47] | jm|laptop: | aiui that is what a frontend will use to make the fe tune to a particular frequency |
[22:34:58] | peterbennett: | The channel number is what you use in mythtv to select the channel but the freqid is used to do the tuning on the cable box, so you can use different numbers if you want to |
[22:35:38] | jm|laptop: | some providers, e.g. UK Freeview carry a recommended channel number in the tuner channels frequency data |
[22:36:09] | jm|laptop: | and I manually amend it so that 101 is 1 and vice versa :) |
[22:36:50] | nope: | heh |
[22:37:17] | jm|laptop: | channel editing is made quite simple with mythweb if you have thta |
[22:37:22] | nope: | Sweeeeet, I edited that field for a few channels, and it's all working now :-) Thanks! |
[22:38:29] | nope: | Yeah, I definitely would rather do this via mythweb. I installed the Ubuntu package (20.04 LTS), but it seemed to be saying it wasn't happy, because I don't have a listing provider. I guess I should go ahead and get that setup. |
[22:39:31] | nope: | Hmm, or maybe it's some other problem. It says: "MythTV is intended to run with TV settings configured. Your installation does not appear to have been fully configured for TV viewing (there are no channels). If you intend to use MythTV's TV functionality, please finish configuration via mythtv-setup before using MythWeb" |
[22:40:34] | nope: | I can visit the /mythweb/status URL and see my upcoming recordings, though, so it seems to be half working *shrug* |
[22:40:59] | jm|laptop: | if mythweb is showing tuners and programme listings that IS a bit odd :S |
[22:41:55] | nope: | Hmm, no, not showing tuners or listings. |
[22:42:53] | jm|laptop: | . o O ( redo from start ) |
[22:43:56] | nope: | heh |
[22:44:13] | nope: | Yeah, I wonder if I signup for an account with a listing provider, delete all my current channels, and then import things will start working. |
[22:44:53] | nope: | Are you using packages from a distribution, by the way, or building from source? |
[22:45:01] | jm|laptop: | moi? |
[22:45:31] | nope: | Or anyone, yeah. Just curious what the consensus is these days. The last time I played with myth was like 15 years ago. |
[22:46:02] | jm|laptop: | well this is not consensus but I am using deb-multimedia packages |
[22:46:32] | peterbennett: | Certainly better to get your channels added from a provider. |
[22:47:31] | peterbennett: | most people use ubuntu packages. |
[22:47:55] | jm|laptop: | then I am obscure on two counts as I used d-m packages and get my listings OTA |
[22:48:15] | peterbennett: | :) |
