[16:24:55] cybrNaut: lot's of recordings are becoming grayed out with an "X" next to them. It says "Can't find file"
[16:25:36] cybrNaut: why would mythtv lose track of files? I'm not touching the files.
[16:47:39] mack-: cybrNaut: right off the top of my head, failing disk is most likely. Database corruption/muckery could be another reason.

[18:46:00] cybrNaut: just from eye-balling, it's roughly 10% of the recordings that are getting the missing file marking
[18:47:08] cybrNaut: all recordings are stored in the same directory (/var/lib/mythtv/recordings), so an unmounted disk couldn't explain the problem.
[19:11:29] trumee (trumee!~rajlon.dy@122.181.201.48) has quit (Quit: ZNC 1.7.1 - https://znc.in)
[20:02:23] mkbloke: cybrNaut: maybe a silly question: but are they actually present within the storage dir?
[20:09:08] cybrNaut: mkbloke: when i "show recording details", there is no "recorded file:" field, so I have no way to know which file to look for.
[20:10:23] cybrNaut: whereas as "show recording details" shows "recorded file: ###_##############.ts" when a recording is in a good state.
[20:11:52] cybrNaut: I'm also seeing that all the recordings that "cannot be found" are clustered together, in the same stretch of time.
[20:13:07] cybrNaut: actually that's a big clue. I think when the reception is terrible, like on a stormy day, this might be the result
[20:14:02] cybrNaut: so i think mythtv isn't losing recordings.
[20:20:44] mkbloke: can you not find the info in the DB? the file format (on my system anyway) is just chanid_timestamp.ts where the timestamp includes any pre-roll time you may have configured...
[20:42:37] mkbloke: cybrNaut: it sounds likely to me that due to the poor reception, the recording failed to start at all, so there won't be a corresponding .ts file...
[20:44:08] mkbloke: *perhaps* that could be due to tuning taking longer in poor conditions, so adjusting the timeout for that *might* help...
[20:47:34] mkbloke: it's possible though, that even with successful tuning, if conditions are poor and the sig drops out, MythTV might then classify it as a damaged recording instead...
[20:51:33] mkbloke: also, AFAIK, if a recording is marked as damaged, then it's automatically marked for re-recording...
[20:54:51] mkbloke: effectively, those recordings with missing .ts files that never started at all will be marked as damaged...

[21:46:54] cybrNaut: I get a lot of bad recordings due to bad reception. The "damaged recording" flag seems very sensitive, and gets applied to some recordings that are decent.. perhaps only a perfect recording is considered not damaged by Mythtv
[21:48:23] cybrNaut: sometimes reception is so bad that I can't "get a lock", and popups say: unable to get a lock for 3000 m/s or something.
[21:49:16] cybrNaut: maybe there's no file when the tuner is unable to get a lock for the whole duration
[21:52:50] mkbloke: I think it's based on a calculated %, somehow. from memory (I might be wrong), < 95% on considered damaged... It's possible to get that % for each recording from the logs, but I can't remember the format to look for. I think (again from memory) it might be expressed as 0.00 to 1.0...
[21:53:35] mkbloke: it sounds like your tuning timeout is at the def val, you could try increasing that in the mythtv-setup for the cap card. say 10000ms instead...
[21:55:23] mkbloke: I don't know what MythTV does if the initial tuning for a rec fails, i.e. if it continues to retry.
