[03:09:54] | mack-: | I'm in the situation for the first time in many years that I need to run find_orphans. I'm on v29 with mythbuntu repo in 18.04 lts, and getting the error MythTV.exceptions.MythDBError: Could not find setting 'BackendServerAddr' on host '192.168.17.2'. I sort of assumed the problem was not running the script as user 'mythtv', or my ~/.mythtv/config.xml wasn't configured with a hostname, but both ~ and ~mythtv have "localhost". |
[03:11:11] | mack-: | running find_orphans as my user, or sudo -u mythtv, both on the backend or a frontend all give the same error. This looks really familiar like it's come up here on the channel before. |
[03:13:25] | mack-: | I'm assuming the python binding helpers are checking the db for a setting for BackendServerAddr matching hostname=192.169.17.2, but the db has no entries with that host |
[03:14:54] | mack-: | so I guess I don't know where the python binding is doing a lookup for the backend server (that IP address) and then looking for the address in the db instead of the hostname |
[03:54:34] | mack-: | I guess the answer is to give up after hours and ask publicly for help. While I continued to look, I found https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13593 |
[03:56:22] | mack-: | BackendServerAddr did not equal MasterServerIP. I changed BackendServerAddr via SQL to the IP address value of MasterServerIP and find_orphans.py runs. |

[21:09:04] | TrinitronX: | @mack: I'm not familiar with "find_orphans", but that error looks like it might be a mysql connection error. Try checking that the database is still running, and on the network interface & port that it's expecting? |
[21:09:47] | TrinitronX: | sudo systemctl status mysql ; sudo netstat -tunlp | grep mysql ; |
[21:10:09] | TrinitronX: | Then, try connecting using the same settings as in the config file (mysql.txt): |
[21:10:12] | TrinitronX: | mysql --user=mythtv --database=mythconverg --password=$(cat ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt | grep DBPassword= | cut -d= -f2 ) |
[21:11:17] | mack-: | TrinitronX: read to the end :) I found the bug that was patched in v30 |
[21:12:06] | TrinitronX: | Ah, nice |
[21:12:11] | TrinitronX: | I was about to suggest checking this: select * from settings where value LIKE '%BackendServerAddr%'; |
[21:13:53] | mack-: | As a result, the find_orphans wiki page is misleading. The section for "v30 and below" isn't guaranteed to work on anything less than 30 out of the box. |

[21:15:54] | TrinitronX: | Seems like a lot of changes will be happening, especially with deprecation of Python 2. I'm considering upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 and mythtv 0.31 soon... but I'm a bit wary of what might happen |
[21:16:36] | TrinitronX: | My mythtv box has an older Nvidia GPU that uses VDPAU (I remember when that was 'state of the art'... lol) |
[21:16:58] | TrinitronX: | seems like they still support it, but they do mention in release notes: "All new and existing users are strongly advised to review their video display profiles" |
[21:18:13] | TrinitronX: | right now I'm still on 0.29.1 |

[21:49:01] | monkey1: | Hi all, i haven't setup channels in many years. i am in the USA using schedulesdirect.org. I rescanned the channels then manually put in the xmlid from schedulesdirect. |
[21:49:18] | monkey1: | I don't know how to force a scan, mythfilldatabase isn't supported anymore? |
[21:49:47] | TrinitronX: | Seems like my old card (GT215 [GeForce GT 240]) supports both va-api & vdpau (VA-API version 1.1.0, NVIDIA VDPAU Driver Shared Library 340.107) |
[21:51:21] | TrinitronX: | I see a lot more details from vainfo, & vdpauinfo. It doesn't support HEVC/h.265, it was of the generation that supported h.264 |
[21:52:31] | monkey1: | How do i force the backend to rescan and populate the guide? |
[21:53:42] | TrinitronX: | @monkey1 : I believe it's: mythfilldatabase |
[21:54:24] | TrinitronX: | but I'm not sure if that changed in newer versions |
[21:58:22] | TrinitronX: | Looks like release notes say: "Support for the DataDirect guide service from Schedules Direct has been removed. Either of the two XMLTV grabbers for Schedules Direct should now be used. XMLTV Wiki, Ticket #13411" |
[21:59:02] | monkey1: | TrinitronX thanks, i reconfigured it to use the supported. However, now mythfilldatabase segfaults. |
[22:07:00] | TrinitronX: | hmm... sounds like a bug. Not sure I can help with that one |
[22:09:52] | TrinitronX: | some forum threads from ~2014 say this was happening in old versions (around v0.27).. had something to do with version of Qt it linked against, also possibly the version on MacOS? |

[22:12:52] | stuarta: | monkey1: what version you running |
[22:23:59] | monkey1: | Version 31 |

[23:21:09] | monkey1: | OK, i figured it out, i have to switch to use the XMLTV instructions which I found at https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/XMLTV |
[23:35:54] | Kwisher[m]: | monkey1: that was the reason i restored back to .30 after running .31 for a few days :( |
[23:38:39] | monkey1: | Kwisher: Yeah, i was getting worried for awhile until i stumbled onto that page. |
