[16:07:53] twiggy2cents: does mythlink.pl have to be ran on all BE's to work?
[16:08:01] twiggy2cents: I assume it only links the local files?
[16:34:32] twiggy2cents: Also does a system event happen on both backends or just one. Like a script execution when mythfilldatabase is ran
[16:36:48] twiggy2cents: Nvm the wiki told me
[17:03:38] Kwisher: twiggy2cents: how's your router doing since the firmware update?
[17:03:56] twiggy2cents: doing great, it was actually the factory reset that seemed to fix it

[17:39:59] twiggy2cents: does the mythfilldatabase system event trigger on all computers, or the computer that called it?
[17:50:08] twiggy2cents: trying to understand this https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/SYSTEM_EVENT_(Myth_Protocol) makes me think the computer that triggers those events broadcasts it to all mythtv instances but I'm not sure
[17:56:58] amessina (amessina!~amessina@unaffiliated/amessina) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[17:57:29] amessina (amessina!~amessina@unaffiliated/amessina) has joined #mythtv-users
[18:08:51] Kwisher: what event are you concerned with?
[18:26:10] twiggy2cents: I set up mythlink.pl to be ran when mythfill database runs, but I have a MBE and SBE and was wondering if it will run on both when one computer runs mythfilldatabase
[18:30:40] Kwisher: looks the the scripts pulls info from the DB so i would assume that would work
[18:32:16] twiggy2cents: Well, the script does but I am interested in making sure it calls for the script on both backends. The script only does your local SG's so you have to do it on both
[18:32:47] Kwisher: are recordings on the sbe not showing up with the new names?
[18:32:56] twiggy2cents: I think I have it set up correct, I will just have to see tomorrow when mythfilldatabase runs.
[18:33:20] Kwisher: run it manually
[18:33:41] twiggy2cents: They do but it has to update the symlinked list for additions or deletions.
[18:35:13] twiggy2cents: So I have an event that triggers at recording start to update the list for the specific one it is recording and rather than setting a cron job I tied another one to mythfilldatabase event to run the whole command which deletes and remakes the whole list(this one is important because if you delete a recording the symlink wont know)
[18:35:42] Kwisher: yeah, i seen that
[18:36:17] Kwisher: just curious why to need the pretty links?
[18:38:31] twiggy2cents: Well, i am for mythtv through and through but I just set up a plex server to serve my videos outside of the house. I tried mythweb but plex's transcoding is really efficient. They have the ability for tv episodes too and I wanted to set that up in case I wanted to watch an episode on my phone or outside of the house. I needed the pretty links so plex had some idea what the file was
[18:39:20] Kwisher: ahh
[18:40:22] Kwisher: can the sytstem event REC_DELETED be used to trigger the script?
[18:41:22] twiggy2cents: Probably, I will leave it like this and see how things go.

[22:26:35] mschaff: Been a long time mythtv user (since 2004) and having some trouble getting a new capture card set up.
[22:29:10] mschaff: I have the card drivers compiled and I can record with ffmpeg from the command line, but Myth doesn't behave when switching to it.
[22:30:12] Kwisher: make & model?
[22:31:06] mschaff: I'm trying to replace an ancient PVR-150 with a Magewell Pro for S-video.
[22:32:04] mschaff: I know it's not on the officially supported list, but the manufacturer provides v4l2 drivers that compile on my Fedora box.
[22:34:01] mschaff: The card works and I can capture a stream from it, but working within MythTV has me a bit baffled.
[22:36:00] mschaff: It appears as /dev/video1 and the audio as an alsa device so using ffmpeg, I capture with: ffmpeg -f pulse -i alsa_input.pci-0000_03_00.0.stereo-fallback -itsoffset 0.35 -f v4l2 -i /dev/video1 -acodec libmp3lame -b:a 128k -vcodec libx264 -b:v 12M -g 1 -preset ultrafast Test.mp4
[22:37:08] mschaff: (a timing tweak added for syncing audio/video since it was a bit off)
[22:38:06] Kwisher: i have no idea
[22:41:06] mschaff: I tried V4L2 and Analog Capture Card in myth-setup. Both resulted in errors when switching to Live TV. Does Myth have a "virtual capture card" where you can plug in a script instead of selecting one of the canned capture devices?
[22:52:38] mack-: mschaff: I've not used it, but Demo test recorder capture card type takes a file as input. Might be possible to use that?
[22:53:22] mack-: oh, there's import test recorder, too: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Setup_Capture_Car . . . est_recorder
[22:54:33] mack-: might also be possible to use iptv tuner with rtsp output from ffmpeg or something
[22:54:40] mschaff: Ah, interesting.
[22:55:00] mschaff: Thanks, down the rabbit hole I go...
[22:55:03] mack-: kinda hacky, but if mythtv doesn't like the card...
[22:55:35] mack-: have you tried searching the mythtv-users mailing list for the card model?
[22:56:07] mschaff: I haven't, but did a ton of Google searches before reaching out here.
[22:56:59] mschaff: Not too much info about it, but I was really surprised to find this card with PC, Mac, and Linux drivers.
[22:57:13] mack-: I only see https://lists.gt.net/mythtv/users/607534?sear . . . t%3B;#607534

[22:57:30] mack-: talking about hdmi on it
[22:57:47] mack-: no, MythLogBot, you got it wrong =)
[22:58:38] mschaff: Yeah, it has HDMI, but also a break out cable with video, S-video, and component inputs.
[22:59:04] mack-: yes, I assumed so.
[23:00:09] mschaff: I'll keep poking around. Appreciate your suggestion. If I can't get it to work will have to send back.

[23:06:19] mschaff: Mack, you got me thinking outside of the box, and I also see there is a External (black box) recorder option that takes an executable to create a stream. Maybe this could work...
[23:06:34] mack-: personally, it would be worth the hassle and possible extra cost returning and getting something well supported just so I don't waste time fiddling with it. And an intermediate ffmpeg stream might be a little fragile.
