[09:52:29] jmcentee_: Hello, I am just wondering if anyone else can reproduce my problem/bug.
[09:53:58] jmcentee_: If I record the last program on cbeebies UK DVB-T before the channel closes down. I get a file of the correct size but I cannot play it back.
[09:54:18] enyc: jmcentee_: i have a fixes/0.27 machie/server i could run it on...
[09:54:35] enyc: jmcentee_: can you tell me how to run it via mythweb?
[09:55:03] jmcentee_: Are you in the UK?
[09:56:04] enyc: well yes have mythtv server pulgged into dvb-t uk =)
[09:56:21] enyc: can see program listing
[09:56:26] enyc: from uk-Oxford transmitter
[09:56:31] enyc: DVB-T and DVB-T2 tuners
[09:56:41] enyc: i.e. have channel 101 HD etc too
[09:56:59] enyc: can see 121(Cbeebies)
[09:57:18] jmcentee_: All I have to do is record cbeebies bedtime story at 6:50 pm
[09:57:31] jmcentee_: Everythin else records fine.
[09:57:39] jmcentee_ is now known as jmcentee
[09:58:13] jmcentee: It is one everyday.
[09:59:07] jmcentee: I did mention it to stuarta, but he never came back if it worked or not.
[09:59:52] enyc: jmcentee: ok i've set "Nena an the Neurons" (this afternoon) and the 18:20--18:50 "In the Nigh Garden" to record via mythweb
[10:00:08] jmcentee: In the night garden will be fine.
[10:00:16] jmcentee: you need to program after it.
[10:00:26] enyc: err what do you mean?
[10:00:49] jmcentee: In mythweb there will be a few ...
[10:01:04] jmcentee: hover over it and it will say.
[10:01:18] stuarta: jmcentee: ah the recordings on cbeebies that you couldn't see?
[10:01:20] jmcentee: Cbeebies bedtime stories.
[10:01:38] enyc: ooooooh yes
[10:01:43] jmcentee: I can record it, but I cannot play it back.
[10:01:55] stuarta: jmcentee: right, i can play them back
[10:01:58] jmcentee: I think it is a bug with the end of channel
[10:02:01] enyc: jmcentee: ok set the bedtime story too
[10:02:24] enyc: stuarta, jmcentee : obvious question, what mythtv versions/builds you using?
[10:02:38] stuarta: jmcentee: the difference i can see, is i'm not recording the mheg streams, just the audio / video streams
[10:03:25] enyc: stuarta: how do you even do that?
[10:03:38] enyc: I've got PCI and USB dvb-t tuner widgets
[10:04:13] stuarta: there's a setting somewhere, iirc in the profiles somewhere, that tells mythtv what to record
[10:04:19] jmcentee: would I be recording the mheg streams without knowing it.
[10:05:00] enyc: stuarta: is the MHEG stream mode needed in order to keep all the subtitles ?
[10:05:01] jmcentee: I have 2 happuage dvb-t cards from about 10 years ago.
[10:05:18] stuarta: enyc: no, mheg is the interactive (red button) stuff
[10:05:55] stuarta: lemme pull the stream info for one of my recordings
[10:06:20] jmcentee: I have only recently upgraded from 0.24 to 0.27.x (lastest deb-multmedia package so I guess should be 0.27.5)
[10:06:38] enyc: hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm the controversial deb-multimedia.org etc
[10:07:18] jmcentee: mythweb gives me a grey preview, and mythfrontend crashes
[10:07:33] stuarta: hmmm, shouldn't crash
[10:07:35] enyc: i very much remeber a debian developer tell ing me, if only chistian marilall would put all this effort he's using, into actually getting these things into debian ....
[10:07:44] jmcentee: maybe just hangs
[10:08:07] stuarta: so that's my streams http://fpaste.org/320671/50988771/
[10:08:19] stuarta: as you can see, it has video, audio and subtitles
[10:08:24] enyc: anyway i've sent all those to record on 0.27.5 ubuntu 'fixes/0.27' package
[10:08:28] enyc: (NOT upgraded from 0.24)
[10:08:32] enyc: we will see
[10:08:51] stuarta: jmcentee: are yours recorded from HD or SD ??
[10:08:56] jmcentee: SD
[10:09:09] jmcentee: only have old dvb-t cards at the moment.
[10:09:28] stuarta: okay, then your workaround should be to do a "lossless" transcode of the files, that'll drop the mheg streams
[10:09:38] stuarta: try one when you have a moment and see if that fixes it
[10:09:39] jmcentee: what command did you use to run that output.
[10:09:45] stuarta: mythffprobe /myth/sg2/prod/recordings/8318_20160203184900.mpg
[10:13:36] jmcentee: I will try to not record the mheg streams and see if that works.
[10:13:49] enyc: remin me this evening uk somehow
[10:14:08] stuarta: jmcentee: did you work out how to do that?
[10:17:54] jmcentee: http://fpaste.org/320674/
[10:18:10] jmcentee: output from non-working and working
[10:18:57] jmcentee: I guess if I am the only one having this problem, it could be just my setup.
[10:19:55] enyc: jmcentee: patience-patience, we'll find out later =)
[10:20:18] stuarta: i'll record one with full mheg and see if that changes it
[10:20:38] jmcentee: What is the recommended distro to use? Ubuntu?
[10:21:00] enyc: jmcentee: at the moment, though manually building from packaging repo now works nicely on debian too
[10:21:25] jmcentee: I used to use CentOS but gave up on getting mythtv to run on that.
[10:21:37] enyc: jmcentee: which debian releaso?
[10:21:39] stuarta: jmcentee: ubuntu is the most common
[10:21:59] stuarta: it builds and runs on fedora / mint, even builds on centos7 now
[10:22:11] enyc: mint is ubuntu esssentially
[10:22:16] stuarta: yep
[10:22:18] enyc: can even use the repo
[10:22:24] enyc: debian however, similar but different
[10:22:27] stuarta: jmcentee: which centos did you give up on?
[10:22:34] stuarta: 6 i could see issues with
[10:22:34] enyc: i have done the fiddling to make the 'offocial' packaging work with debian
[10:22:36] jmcentee: I sort of see ubuntu etc as a desktop os, not a headless server.
[10:22:46] enyc: jmcentee: what debian release you using?
[10:23:00] stuarta: jmcentee: ubuntu server???
[10:23:14] jmcentee: I upgraded to debian jessie about 3 weeksago.
[10:23:32] enyc: jmcentee: i reccomend trying to build mythtv from the official fixes/0.27 repository
[10:24:20] jmcentee: In the past I liked to used the other hardwork and the package manager of the distro.
[10:24:37] jmcentee: /used/use/
[10:25:11] enyc: jmcentee: this does make debian packages, just not those in the deb-multimedia repo =)
[10:25:25] jmcentee: OK.
[10:26:07] enyc: i hawe this working on a debian server etc.

[10:27:04] jmcentee: Currently my master backend has a fake tunner. (running a Xen debian) and the slave is not a debian with both DVB-t tunners.
[10:29:10] jmcentee: I will probably give ubuntu a try. I am trying to refresh my linux skills, as very thing has got too windows at work.
[10:29:42] enyc: i'd certanily consider trying a single machine with the tuners all in one with a single 0.27 new database
[10:29:53] enyc: jmcentee: but, if you are patient until this evening we will see what my recordings do!

[10:32:18] enyc: jmcentee: and i've ealready done the faffing-around // testing to make it work on debian as far as i can tell =)

[10:36:39] enyc: jmcentee: at least, with fixes/0.27 on wheezy and jessie i386 and amd64

[12:32:52] enyc: (i think)
[12:33:33] enyc: that should make you proper package files (NB: they might incorrectly be numbered 0.27.5 due to no proper debian-changelog-updating but they really are current fixes/0.27 as per the build date)

[13:40:23] enyc: jmcentee: known issue, really needs the whoel debian changelog generator thing sorted
[13:40:40] jmcentee: Um, first problem (mine) by slave backend is a pentium 4 e.g. 32bit.
[13:41:06] enyc: oh no not p4's i thought they were heating-units wiht a cpu on the side? ;-)
[13:42:05] jmcentee: It is. my original plan 4 years ago was to use pci-passthrough of the dvb-t cards to the master backend, but I couldn't get that working.
[13:42:53] jmcentee: so as a temperary fix I WoL a p4 with the card in it.
[13:43:28] jmcentee: so is generally on only a from nothing to 2 hours a day.
[13:43:50] enyc: nods, pci-passthrough is a mess =)
[13:43:58] enyc: i know where i can ask about that stuff
[13:44:12] enyc: i (think) it may be it only really works on new xen and with IOMMU or something like that
[13:44:40] jmcentee: I have bought 2 x dvb-t2 usb sticks.
[13:44:40] enyc: also, basically you have to pass through whole PCI busses, or indivdiual pci-e cards
[13:44:53] enyc: I have no idea what xen usb-passthrough works
[13:45:06] enyc: or somehow pass through entire pci-e usb controller ;p
[13:45:09] jmcentee: my dvb-t cards are 10 year old pci cards.
[13:45:19] enyc: nods, don't bother trying to passthrough that =)
[13:45:58] jmcentee: Do you know if USB passthrough for the dvb-t2 usb stick would work?
[13:45:59] enyc: I have a pile of K-world//V-Stream older PCI cards that work fine, and have nice aerial loopthrough connectors
[13:46:08] enyc: no, does "USB-passthorugh" even work on xen?
[13:46:33] enyc: ooooh looks like its' a new thing
[13:46:41] jmcentee: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_USB_Passthrough
[13:46:43] jmcentee: may do.
[13:47:04] enyc: one moment i'll ask a question about that...
[13:48:02] jmcentee: the usb passthrough, is just part of a plan.
[13:48:55] jmcentee: e.g. normal running just masterbackend production with 2 usb stick in a VM.
[13:49:33] jmcentee: when testing production master with 1 USB stick and testing slave (zfs clone) with 2nd usb stick.
[13:49:56] jmcentee: I very rarely need the second card.
[13:50:01] enyc: I know using 'virtualbox' USB device passthrough on local machine works really well in general
[13:50:51] enyc: i'd say... try to avoid feauturitis in your plans =) solve 1 issue at a time =)
[13:51:34] jmcentee: I have always thought of virtual box as a desktop vm, not for headless servers.
[13:54:29] jmcentee: currently setup is Xen host with ZFS nfs share for storage, master backend as VM, real hardware slave with 2 dvb-t cards. ubuntu laptop for watching TV in bed and old inital quad core Q6600 with semi broken nvidia card (hdmi no longer works, so dvi to hdmi and analog speekers as a fix.)
[13:57:26] jmcentee: I plan to replace the old Q6600 witha RPI 2. ( I can wait) and try to do a blue/green development (buzz word bingo) of the master backend.
