[00:02:28] cj___: Esteban, what do you like about it
[00:02:35] cj___: I'm waiting on my equipment to set it up
[00:06:17] Esteban: it keeps the wife happy, and I don't have to buy an apple TV, so that's a win
[00:09:32] cj___: what are you running it on?

[02:06:20] Roklobotomy: i looked for the quad tuners the other day but they are gone
[02:06:51] Roklobotomy: they stopped being made after the E4000 tuner went off the market. Even though the R820T is a good replacement no-one made an updated quad tuner.

[04:40:27] hipitihop: I see I have libvdpau1 installed, a hangover to when my box had nvidia, it is pure intel now. If I try to remove the package, it wants to remove most of myth. Any suggestions ?
[04:44:25] Roklobsta: is it harming anything to leave it?
[04:45:55] hipitihop: I'm eliminating a breakage to OpenGL caused by using this to update the kernel https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
[04:46:35] Roklobsta: yeah my linux mint nvidia install has completely fscked itself after an update the other day.
[04:46:44] hipitihop: But even booting with original hasn't fixed the breakage.
[04:46:58] Roklobsta: no nvidia, can't even remove the offending package with "--killwithprejudice''.
[04:48:38] hipitihop: My box is an origina karmic based Mythbuntu that has gone through upgrades since... but 12 months ago, I ripped the HDD out of the ATOM330 based mobo (with inbuild nvidia) and now runs as is in new all intel
[04:49:24] hipitihop: I know, I should blow it away and do fresh install, but I have a few other services running there that will be a pita to migrate off for now
[04:52:04] hipitihop: Roklobsta, so instead of removing that pkg, any ideas how to get opengl running again ? http://paste.ubuntu.com/13553711/
[04:54:02] Roklobsta: if you uninstall the package and uninstall myth there is no harm to then reinstall myth packages. just make sure your database is backed up and you're good to go.
[04:55:15] hipitihop: is db backup automatic or something I need to switch on somewhere
[04:56:55] Roklobsta: it's automatic – cron job. you can backup and restore manually too
[04:57:16] Roklobsta: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore
[05:00:07] hipitihop: theres a backup in mythbuntu-control-center I see
[05:00:39] Roklobsta: i've uninstalled myth packages and then reinstalled them with no hassles in the past to fix up some messes.
[05:01:31] hipitihop: ok will try, although since this is a mythbuntu repo I'm not 100% what the top-level pkg is

[09:40:28] _spOOn__: hi, i'm having some trouble with mythtv on debian with the new channel 9 channels in australia
[09:40:48] _spOOn__: tuning finds the channels, but when I switch to one of them, i only get a partial lock
[09:40:53] _spOOn__: and no picture/sound
[09:42:28] CM707 (CM707!~CM707@2604:180:0:1b4::345d) has quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[09:45:39] Roklobsta: how'd it go locking with your older myth? what make is the tuner?
[09:45:58] Roklobsta: does it lock if you use mplayer?
[09:47:00] _spOOn__: Roklobsta: yes, it use to work fine, then channel nine in australia swapped over to HD, and moved all the frequencies of the SD channels as well :-(
[09:47:12] _spOOn__: yes it tunes fine with w_scan + mplayer
[09:48:01] _spOOn__: card is dvico fusionHDTV dvb-t dual tuner
[09:48:57] _spOOn__: i thought maybe i would delete the channel in mythtv-setup and just import my channels.conf as I knew that worked.... but it seems you cant import the channels.conf (or at least, I cant seem to)
[09:49:10] _spOOn__: can only import previous tunings
[09:49:47] Roklobsta: i used to have this problem in melbourne with sbs – i edited the transport frequency up or down a smidge
[09:49:59] Roklobsta: it's annoying
[09:50:08] Roklobsta: works in mplayer, not myth.
[09:50:26] _spOOn__: yup, works in mplayer, just not myth....
[09:50:48] Roklobsta: it's been a loooong time. you can use channels.conf too....
[09:50:50] _spOOn__: so, you think its worth trying changing the transport freq?
[09:51:04] _spOOn__: cool... any ideas how?
[09:51:16] _spOOn__: ive googled, and come up with lots of people that say it can be done
[09:51:23] _spOOn__: just nobody seems to tell you how :)
[09:51:32] _spOOn__: wondered if it was deprecated now....
[09:56:57] _spOOn__: so, you think changing transport freq is worth a shot?
[09:59:50] _spOOn__: given that re-tuning finds the channel, is this likely to do anything?
[10:03:42] Roklobsta: yeah it'll lock. edit it in the mythtv-backend setting util
[10:04:30] _spOOn__: any suggestions how much i should be adjusting the freq by?
[10:04:48] _spOOn__: and also, do I need to rescan for chans after changing it?
[10:05:05] Roklobsta: and be careful that you are trying to tune to a strong signal – there are quite a few DVB repeaters in cities now
[10:05:38] _spOOn__: signal is about 75–85% which for where we live, is quite good :)
[10:05:45] CM707 (CM707!~CM707@unaffiliated/cm707) has joined #mythtv-users
[10:06:05] _spOOn__: so what, 10–15 up or down?
[10:06:07] _spOOn__: or more?
[10:06:55] Roklobsta: hang on
[10:07:08] camjac251: with mythtv can you watch live tv and be able to pause/rewind/ and record from where you started watching?
[10:08:41] Roklobsta: yes
[10:08:47] Roklobsta: but you have to watch tv through myth
[10:09:25] camjac251: what do you mean?
[10:09:31] camjac251: Are recordings encrypted?
[10:09:41] camjac251: Meaning I could only watch them with myth?
[10:10:11] camjac251: I'd be interested in integrating the dvr with plex, where the recorded files would go to Sonarr for organizing then to plex for watching
[10:10:45] camjac251: But for live tv, I'd use a roku for limited functionality, then a nexus player (hopefully) for recording/pausing/rewind etc
[10:12:11] Roklobsta: _spOOn__: i can't find the database anymore
[10:12:57] _spOOn__: Roklobsta: tried 100 up, no joy :)
[10:15:29] Roklobsta: try w_scan from the command line. one of the options make chan.conf you can impoty
[10:16:17] _spOOn__: i have a working channels.conf from w_scan
[10:16:33] _spOOn__: but import for file is no longer an option within mythtv-setup
[10:16:49] _spOOn__: only import existing scan
[10:17:52] Roklobsta: ok compare the frequencies from wscan to those that mythtv scanned. there usually is a suble diff.
[10:17:56] Roklobsta: subtle
[10:18:39] Roklobsta: actually... now its' coming back to be.
[10:18:40] Roklobsta: me
[10:19:06] Roklobsta: i ended up editing the database directly with mysql editor because the transport ID was wrong
[10:19:08] Roklobsta: fsck.
[10:19:40] Roklobsta: i put in a bug report to the myth guys as the database was being incorrectly populated and I wasn't the only one suffering this.
[10:20:06] Roklobsta: it's all working now... i'll never have to edit the channels again unless i move.
[10:22:03] _spOOn__: hmm, okies, ill check em now
[10:24:21] _spOOn__: dont suppose you remember which table in the db the frequencies are stored in?
[10:25:13] Roklobsta: https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10217
[10:25:40] _spOOn__: thanks... reading now
[10:25:46] Roklobsta: comment 21
[10:27:02] Roklobsta: stuarta might have been lumped with this bug now
[10:28:42] Roklobsta: once i got the netid in the right place it magically started to tune
[10:28:47] Roklobsta: and lcok
[10:31:48] _spOOn__: netid seems correct
[10:32:01] _spOOn__: and as I said, it tunes ok, just no lock....
[10:32:17] Roklobsta: the no lock stopped when i set netid where there were nulls
[10:32:22] Roklobsta: and there are 2 netids...
[10:32:26] Roklobsta: do you have the right one?
[10:35:06] Roklobsta: check this bug for clues too https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11864
[10:37:19] _spOOn__: hmm, okies, i can see the transportid and networkid in dtv_multiplex, but unsure where i should be matching these...
[10:37:33] _spOOn__: dont seem to have a channel_scan table....
[10:37:52] Roklobsta: down the rabbit hole you go....
[10:38:41] Roklobsta: did ch9 doa recent change?
[10:38:43] _spOOn__: hehe
[10:39:11] _spOOn__: yes, they changed to HD, and it seems shifted all their frequencies....
[10:39:25] Roklobsta: oh you mean ch9 became HD?
[10:39:29] _spOOn__: as 9 use to be fine, but on the day of chaning to HD, i lost all 9 channels
[10:39:31] Roklobsta: moved it from GEM?
[10:39:48] _spOOn__: i lost old SD chans and new HD chans
[10:40:09] _spOOn__: i can only "assume" they moved frequencies of all their channels where i am
[10:40:26] Roklobsta: they might just shuffle the ID's and not change freqs
[10:41:01] camjac251: what do you guys use to run your mythtv backend
[10:41:03] _spOOn__: hmmm, i might have found something....
[10:41:05] Roklobsta: i don't understand the DVB transport one bit. i was hacking the database blind until i got it working
[10:41:09] camjac251: Im worried a raspi2 wouldnt work
[10:41:19] _spOOn__: select * from channelscan_channel where scanid = 15 and mplex_id = 0;
[10:41:19] Roklobsta: my backend is athlin x2 2700
[10:41:24] Roklobsta: which is also my frontend
[10:41:38] _spOOn__: select * from dtv_multiplex;
[10:41:57] _spOOn__: there is no multiplex in dtv_multiplex with the id of 0....

[10:42:37] camjac251: sorry
[10:42:43] Roklobsta: not you caelor

[10:43:11] camjac251: Me too

[10:43:24] Roklobsta: i spam it all the time with my BS though
[10:43:52] Roklobsta: camjac251: is rpi a permanent backend or just mucking about?
[10:44:13] camjac251: Something cheap for now, will upgrade later
[10:44:15] Roklobsta: camjac251: i am using a 3 drive RAID5 for my recordinds.
[10:44:31] Roklobsta: does rpi even have SATA?
[10:44:43] camjac251: It would be a simple backend setup, class10 sd card, ac, raspi2, and a usb 1tb hard drive
[10:44:58] Roklobsta: how many tuners?
[10:45:08] camjac251: Then I'd see if theres an ubuntu guide for it, if not, then mythbuntu
[10:45:15] camjac251: I'm using the hdhomerun prime, 3
[10:45:22] Roklobsta: oh so network
[10:45:28] camjac251: Is that a bad thing?
[10:45:43] Roklobsta: no, it's just a lot of data for the unit to shuffle around
[10:46:00] camjac251: I've really only spent the last 2 days grasping the subject
[10:46:02] Roklobsta: especially if the rpi ethernet is on the USB bus
[10:46:39] camjac251: I have rokus in the house, so I bought a nexus player in hopes that it would allow the mpeg decoding/guide/recording/pausing/rewind features
[10:46:41] Roklobsta: try it but you might find it struggles.
[10:46:55] Roklobsta: a cheap celeron system would be better.
[10:46:57] camjac251: Would a NAS do any better?
[10:47:22] Roklobsta: as long as the NAS could keep up with simultaneous recording and playback
[10:47:30] camjac251: Lets say a WD MyBook Live, heard thats what they shipped out when Hdhomerun did their kickstarter
[10:47:42] Roklobsta: we stream recordings over Wifi to vlc
[10:47:50] camjac251: I'd be using plex
[10:47:53] Roklobsta: but the server is on gigabit eth
[10:47:58] camjac251: Not on the raspi, but on a different machine
[10:48:22] camjac251: Can mythtv do live tv just fine? recording while streaming, pausing, etc etc?
[10:48:41] camjac251: I haven't seen many things advertising that on the Play store, only dvr playback
[10:48:49] Roklobsta: _spOOn__: dekarl just headsupped me. https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1151
[10:50:21] Roklobsta: camjac251: yes it can do livetv just fone
[10:50:27] Roklobsta: with pause, rewind FF
[10:50:31] camjac251: the final cost of a raspi with all components is around $80, do you think I could get a more adequate "server" for that price used on ebay that would outperform the raspi2
[10:51:14] camjac251: I currently have a server, dell poweredge 840, but it takes up uses too much power
[10:51:39] Roklobsta: i understand
[10:52:27] Roklobsta: camjac251: any old dual core cpu from the last 5+ years will work fine
[10:52:34] Roklobsta: except atom
[10:52:44] Roklobsta: i am thinking CORE/CORE2 or Athlon like mine.
[10:53:22] camjac251: so an ARM processor thats quad core, wouldnt work then
[10:53:59] Roklobsta: i can't say for sure, it depends on how busy the USB bus gets as the rpi2 using USB for ethernet and your HDD.
[10:54:27] _spOOn__: Roklobsta: looks promising
[10:54:40] _spOOn__: now if only i could delete the transports.... :)
[10:54:45] Roklobsta: my ancient athlon2700x2 seems to idle at 1000MHz even when recording multiple show to RAID5.
[10:55:08] Roklobsta: i bet i am affected. i'll wait until ch9 appears to stop recording
[10:56:23] Roklobsta: you can buy a nice basic celeron system with 4GB and 1TB HDD for under $250 now.
[10:56:32] Roklobsta: which is plenty for myth
[10:58:29] camjac251: I'd be looking at something for under $100
[10:58:39] Roklobsta: check the 2nd hand shops
[10:59:13] Roklobsta: my myth system with 5 drives in it pulls at most 85W, idles at 70W
[10:59:53] Roklobsta: newer systems might get to 60W with 5 drives
[11:00:29] Roklobsta: someone mentioned in japan you can buy a device that continually records all channels all the time
[11:00:51] Roklobsta: so you can channel surf all the daytime TV when you get home from work
[11:01:31] _spOOn__: Roklobsta: just re-tuning now...
[11:01:32] Roklobsta: i estimated mythtv costs about $250 to run every year
[11:01:46] Roklobsta: which is cheap entertainment
[11:02:12] camjac251: I was hoping to switch to hdhomerun dvr in january or febuary
[11:02:19] camjac251: when it is in its final stages
[11:02:38] camjac251: Unless mythtv wins me over with its features
[11:02:41] camjac251: and functionality
[11:03:09] Roklobsta: You have to pay your dues battling mythtv. but it's worth it when you win.
[11:03:36] camjac251: I'm seeing a dell desktop tower with a core 2 duo 3GHz processor, 8GB ram, 250GB HD, seems like its adequate
[11:03:48] camjac251: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+XP+2700%2B
[11:03:48] Roklobsta: plenty adequate
[11:04:03] camjac251: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel . . . +%40+3.00GHz
[11:04:14] camjac251: Wondering though if I can go cheaper
[11:04:59] Roklobsta: like i said, the athlon – even with 4 USB tuners and 3 drive RAID has given me no reason ever to upgrade it in the last 7 years of mythtv use
[11:05:21] Roklobsta: in spite of it's woeful cpu performance by todays standards
[11:05:59] _spOOn__: Roklobsta: you're a champion
[11:06:04] _spOOn__: working a treat!
[11:06:08] _spOOn__: thankyou soooooo much
[11:06:09] Roklobsta: thank dekarls for PM ing me
[11:06:10] _spOOn__: :)
[11:06:34] _spOOn__: lol, yes, pass on my thanks also
[11:09:18] Roklobsta: camjac251: ah, closer checking shows this is my cpu https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?c . . . 2B&id=83
[11:09:33] camjac251: Ah, I was going to say
[11:09:37] Roklobsta: model name  : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
[11:09:45] camjac251: 300 as a rating for stellar mythtv performance seems unbelievable
[11:09:59] Roklobsta: the cpu goes to 2700MHz -> x2 -> 5400+
[11:10:16] Roklobsta: yeah it seemed loowwwwww
[11:10:41] camjac251: i just found a $32 system, core 2 duo, 2000 cpumark
[11:10:54] camjac251: Think I might go with that, unless amazon has some cyber monday sale
[11:11:27] Roklobsta: yeah you will have much more satisfaction with real sata bus and gigabit ethernet and x64 code
[11:11:32] Roklobsta: try ubuntu
[11:11:36] Roklobsta: mythbuntu
[11:11:52] camjac251: raspi2 isnt 64 bit?
[11:12:03] Roklobsta: google it... ?
[11:12:17] camjac251: I'll definately use ubuntu 14.04
[11:12:55] Roklobsta: cortex A& is 32 bit
[11:12:57] Roklobsta: A7
[11:13:05] Roklobsta: i am using 14.04
[11:13:14] Roklobsta: and myhttv 0.28 trunk
[11:13:22] camjac251: Would I need a GUI installed for configuring mythtv?
[11:13:27] Roklobsta: yes
[11:13:32] Roklobsta: it sucks but you do
[11:13:36] Roklobsta: QT
[11:13:38] Roklobsta: is needed
[11:13:51] Roklobsta: that might change one day.
[11:14:27] camjac251: would I run mythtv with mono?
[11:14:34] camjac251: since its C++
[11:14:45] Roklobsta: huh?
[11:15:08] camjac251: I guess I'd be able to compile it then? on ubuntu
[11:15:18] Roklobsta: sure
[11:15:27] Roklobsta: i just use the .debs
[11:15:40] Roklobsta: i haven't compiled myth ever
[11:15:59] camjac251: I saw on the site that they dont offer precompiled packages
[11:16:06] camjac251: I'm assuming you mean the ubuntu repo?
[11:16:36] Roklobsta: http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.28/ubuntu
[11:16:39] camjac251: Sorry for asking these questions, I should be able to find them on my own
[11:17:00] camjac251: 0.28? Thought it was 0.27 still
[11:17:29] Roklobsta: https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/ubuntu/0.28
[11:17:33] Roklobsta: dev is 0.28
[11:17:41] Roklobsta: it works well enough for me
[11:17:41] camjac251: Oh nice
[11:17:45] camjac251: Stable enough?
[11:17:58] Roklobsta: seems to be
[11:18:12] Roklobsta: i have used it most of this year, do an update once a month or so
[11:18:15] camjac251: thank you, I wasnt aware that it would be available
[11:19:02] camjac251: seems like it just got updated today :)
[11:19:07] Roklobsta: every day
[11:19:09] _spOOn__: well, once again, thanks Roklobsta,
[11:19:18] Roklobsta: back to the cricket?
[11:19:30] _spOOn__: catch you all again next time some stupid broadcaster decides to be a pain in the arse
[11:19:33] _spOOn__: yup :)
[11:19:37] _spOOn__: catch you all later
[11:19:39] _spOOn__ (_spOOn__!~adam@athena.spoontech.biz) has left #mythtv-users ()
[11:19:39] Roklobsta: bye
[11:24:10] camjac251: did I choose wrong with going with a hdhomerun prime? I have Fios with a cablecard, saw that the homerun offered a simple and cost effective solution
[11:24:25] Roklobsta: nothing wrong it's fine
[11:24:31] Roklobsta: have a play
[11:24:53] camjac251: So what you're saying is, it wouldnt route directly to the computer, but through the lan network for mythtv to see it
[11:25:51] Roklobsta: oh wut? ch9 h.264?
[11:28:14] camjac251: in terms of mythtv recordings, are shows interlaced from 23.976 to 23.976? Could mythtv auto correct this and have the recording be progressive and the audio pitch unchanged?
[11:28:35] camjac251: That was my worry, that I wouldnt be able to get 1080p recordings from a network like AMC
[11:28:42] Roklobsta: i don't know
