[01:22:28] bill6502: ubuntuaddicted: Do you have a file similar to this: /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf that's overriding my.cnf?
[01:24:05] ubuntuaddicted: bill6502, yes but within it is only 2 lines and they are #bind-address=0.0.0.0 and max_connections=100
[01:25:24] ubuntuaddicted: the log within xbmc shows ERROR: AddOnLog: MythTV cmyth PVR Client: Failed to connect to MythTV database mythconverg@192.168.0.5:3306 with user mythtv: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'192.168.0.40' (using password: YES)
[01:25:40] shubes (shubes!~shubes@tacs.shubes.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:26:30] ubuntuaddicted: but i am also seeing this in the backend log: MainServer::HandleVersion – Client speaks protocol version 8 but we speak 77!
[01:26:38] bill6502: OK, it was worth a shot. Actually, you should never change my.cnf because the package developer could change it on an update/upgrade. I put my changes in the file mentioned above (and not commented out.)
[01:27:42] bill6502: I don't use xbmc, but have seen that 8/77 error reported here frequently. I believe it can be ignored, or better the client should fix their code.
[01:33:35] monkeypet (monkeypet!~monkeypet@c-24-6-133-78.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has quit (Quit: BitchX-1.2.1 -- just do it.)
[01:33:54] bill6502: On you backend, does: mysql -u mythtv -p -h 192.168.0.40 mythconverg work? (with the password used by your xbmc client, which should be the same as the one used by your backend.)
[01:34:15] ubuntuaddicted: ok, so my.cnf has bind-address=192.168.0.5 and skip-name-resolve so you're saying i should make the mythtv.cnf file have those options in case my.cnf ever changes?
[01:35:39] ubuntuaddicted: i ran that mysql command and it's attempting to connect to a Mysql server at 192.168.0.40,
[01:35:47] ubuntuaddicted: mysql isn't running on 192.168.0.40
[01:36:07] bill6502: mythtv.cnf (or any name.cnf) is there to override settings in my.cnf. I don't think it's hurting you now (as the connection is made, just the password fails.) But the entries in conf.d are the proper way to change things in my.cnf.
[01:37:45] bill6502: OK, then replace that IP with your backend's IP. It's just to verify that the password is working.
[01:38:19] ubuntuaddicted: yes, it connects
[01:38:24] ubuntuaddicted: the password is correct
[01:40:56] ubuntuaddicted: i just noticed that phpmyadmin shows that certain privileges within mythconverg don't have the GRANT option enabled, is that the issue?
[01:41:38] bill6502: Connects and gives you the mysql prompt, I hope. So, was 192.168.0.40 allowed to connect e.g. with something like: grant all privileges on *.* to 'mythtv'@'%' with grant option;. I'm looking for the correct command.
[01:42:11] ubuntuaddicted: yes, using that command above i was taken to a mysql prompt
[01:42:57] ubuntuaddicted: i actually just enabled the GRANT option for mythtv@192.168.0.40, it had all privileges BUT the grant option
[01:46:34] bill6502: Look at the 4th box here for the command: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Category:MySQL and don't forget to do the flush. It's done as the mysql root user.
[01:47:14] bill6502: argh, there's something better that the above
[01:59:23] ubuntuaddicted: ok, what's better?
[01:59:55] bill6502: SHOW GRANTS FOR 'mythtv'; and assuming the password is mythtv, the password will be: *CC8F35F587CA5A556B4132C2407E556D92172FFC . To see what other passwords would be stored like, type: SELECT PASSWORD('somethingElseHere');
[02:02:25] ubuntuaddicted: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '*BB93529DA845749DD798A1F1AF435E3C9D5016F4' WITH GRANT OPTION
[02:02:44] ubuntuaddicted: my password is not mythtv
[02:03:45] bill6502: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on mythconverg.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'yourPasswordHere';
[02:04:38] ubuntuaddicted: oh, i have a second line to your first command also, it's GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `mythconverg`.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION
[02:05:57] ubuntuaddicted: is that the problem? for password, do i enter the huge long string or the human readable password?
[02:06:17] clever: whatever you can type into the mythtv config should do
[02:07:20] ubuntuaddicted: k, i ran GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on mythconverg.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'sNoM2K20';
[02:07:42] bill6502: I just tried IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '*BB93529DA845749DD798A1F1AF435E3C9D5016F4' and it works, as does IDENTIFIED BY 'yourPasswordHere'
[02:07:43] ubuntuaddicted: and it returned Query OK, 0 rows affected
[02:08:04] ubuntuaddicted: so does that query return mean it didn't change anything?
[02:09:37] bill6502: no, that response id OK. Use: SHOW GRANTS FOR 'mythtv'; to check your work (or better, try to connect from your client.)
[02:09:44] ubuntuaddicted: even after using those commands above Grants for mythtv@% is still only GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `mythconverg`.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION
[02:12:28] ubuntuaddicted: here's a screenshot of the mythconverg privileges per phpmyadmin. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8ksLhZIKX- . . . IMAGE_68.jpg
[02:13:01] ubuntuaddicted: as you can see, i've allowed connection from every possible variation for my client's IP and hostname
[02:14:59] bill6502: I'm not familiar with that SQL tool, did you do: flush privileges; (or maybe it's automatic with that tool.)
[02:15:44] ubuntuaddicted: i did use flush privileges;
[02:16:01] ubuntuaddicted: what does that do anyway?
[02:16:17] bill6502: makes the changes active
[02:17:58] ubuntuaddicted: ah, so i don
[02:18:07] ubuntuaddicted: so i don't have to restart mysql?
[02:18:34] bill6502: correct, but it doesn't hurt.
[02:18:55] ubuntuaddicted: but is it ok to restart mysql while mythbackend is running and something is being recorded?
[02:19:26] bill6502: I wouldn't!
[02:20:05] ubuntuaddicted: k, i won't then.
[02:20:43] ubuntuaddicted: i've done this before, i was previously running XBMC Frodo with cmyth and everything was working perfect
[02:21:06] bill6502: I assume you're retried connecting from xbmc and get the same error message?
[02:21:13] ubuntuaddicted: but i decided to upgrade mythtv to 0.27+fixes and XBMC to Gotham Beta4
[02:22:17] ubuntuaddicted: i will in a moment, my wife is using the TV and watching normal TV, not using the apple tv
[02:22:31] ubuntuaddicted: and I don't think there is a way to enable the cmyth addon over ssh
[02:23:48] bill6502: can you/have you verify that the password that xbmc/cmyth is using matches the one stored in: ~mythtv/.mythtv/config.xml?
[02:25:34] ubuntuaddicted: according to the addon configure screen the password is the same yes
[02:26:13] ubuntuaddicted: not to mention, my .xbmc folder on my apple tv didn't change, only XBMC software so all my config settings stayed the same
[02:28:46] nyloc (nyloc!~quassel@p3EE2D80D.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:29:41] bill6502: OK, that's my best shot for the: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'192.168.0.40' (using password: YES) error message. So you'll have to wait and run your test. Good luck.
[02:30:42] ubuntuaddicted: curious why GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `mythconverg`.* TO 'mythtv'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION
[02:31:02] ubuntuaddicted: bill6502, isn't showing the IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD part, is it suppose to?
[02:32:32] bill6502: Do you mean: SHOW GRANTS FOR 'mythtv'; ?

[02:37:53] ubuntuaddicted: bill6502, you may be able to help with this also. i am running xubuntu 14.04 that was upgraded from 12.04, i no longer have a mythbackend script that I can use to start and stop the server. I used to be able to issue sudo service mythbackend start/stop/restart but that no longer works
[02:39:44] bill6502: ubuntuaddicted: Like this: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/mythtv . . . kend.upstart . You are looking for the Upstart .conf file in /etc/init (not init.d.)
[02:40:12] bill6502: mythtv-backend.conf
[02:41:24] ubuntuaddicted: bill6502, ok, that file is there. so how do I start and stop the server if not using sudo service
[02:42:02] bill6502: I use: sudo start mythtv-backend
[02:43:48] bill6502: The 'old' way worked if the file in /etc/init.d was a symbolic like to a script that ran the command above. But if it's not there anymore, then use the above.
[02:47:06] ubuntuaddicted: bill6502, ok, i liked the sudo service thing because i could use tab to auto complete it, now if i try to use tab to auto complete it doesn't even work
[02:49:34] bill6502: Never tried that, I have an alias: alias mstart='sudo /sbin/start mythtv-backend and one called mstop too.

[03:40:20] rowk: So i gotta hook up some lane old sound system to run MythTV ????
[03:40:35] [R]: what?
[03:40:35] rowk: " lame "
[03:41:46] rowk: Just wondering ?
[03:42:19] [R]: wondering what
[03:42:44] rowk: Does MythTV rely on OSS for a sound system
[03:42:50] [R]: of course not
[03:43:09] rowk: TV watching has no sound saying "aoss" error
[03:43:31] [R]: sounds like your comptuer is horrificially misconfigured
[03:43:59] rowk: So I could emulate oss i guess under alsa
[03:44:22] [R]: huh?
[03:45:30] rowk: So it does rely on OSS ?
[03:47:35] rowk: Could some one just Say , YES or NO,

[03:48:54] [R]: myth uses alsa
[03:49:06] [R]: just like any sane app
[03:49:45] rowk: then why does it give me "aoss" error and no sound
[03:49:52] [R]: [08:43:31] <[R]> sounds like your comptuer is horrificially misconfigured
[03:50:31] rowk: Yea ! sure, whatever, I never had a sound issue except for MythTV

[03:52:48] rowk: A "aoss" error with no sound tells me IT expects OSS as a sound system,
[03:55:00] rowk: If It relies on Alsa, then MythTV is broken
[03:56:45] rowk: Lotta users here but not much going on ... Not much for responses either

[07:55:52] Jay2k1: i have a FE/BE machine on mythbuntu 12.04 w/ 0.27 fixes. sometimes the automatic shutdown does not work (mostly it does though).
[07:56:35] Jay2k1: when it fails, mythwelcome only displays "mythtv is idle" instead of changing to "mythtv is idle and will shutdown in xyz seconds"
[07:57:30] Jay2k1: or, if FE is still running and goes into standby, it just shows the grey overlay with the "standby" message instead of the yellow "backend is shutting down" message
[07:58:34] Jay2k1: i enabled the "idle" flag in mythbackend logging and usually i see the scheduler messages like "system shutdown in 120 seconds", however when it fails, there are no such messages at all
[07:59:31] Jay2k1: restarting the backend fixes it for the moment
[08:00:57] Jay2k1: when it happened yesterday, the box had turned itself on for a scheduled recording, and while it was running i started the frontend and watched a recording. looking into the BE log, at the time of the recording the scheduler logged that shutdown is blocked due to an upcoming recording
[08:02:29] Jay2k1: not sure, maybe it only happens when not manually starting the box
[08:05:53] Jay2k1: googled it, found a lot of other reasons that do not apply here, and now i'm out of ideas, maybe one of you guys can help. for now, i wrote a cron-triggered script that restarts the backend if it doesn't find HandleIdle messages in BE logfile

[22:49:59] stuartm: to answer my own question, I blocked direct internet access for the client at the router, then toggled on/off the vpn connection – no internet without vpn, internet with – thus confirmed that the vpn client was correctly tunneling everything and not just connecting directly
[22:54:09] rhpot1991: is there some magic way to get metadata lookup to refresh data after specifying the season and episode by hand?
[22:54:29] rhpot1991: it seems to keep the generic episode info instead
[22:54:45] tgm4883: rhpot1991: in recordings or mythvideo?
[22:55:01] rhpot1991: recordings
[22:55:12] tgm4883: rhpot1991: have you looked at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Enhancing_Recordin . . . adata_Lookup
[22:55:18] rhpot1991: yep
[22:55:33] tgm4883: IDK then
[22:55:44] rhpot1991: it is setup to do the lookup correctly
[22:56:04] rhpot1991: but for generic episodes it doesn't get a season and episode in the first place
[22:56:05] tgm4883: rhpot1991: and it still keeps the old data if you run it by hand?
[22:56:42] rhpot1991: I do a metadata lookup job by hand and it doesn't update
[22:57:06] tgm4883: Is there an inetref attached to it? Might have to clear that out
[22:57:10] rhpot1991: tried that
[22:57:16] ** tgm4883 shrugs **

[23:29:23] Hydr0p0nX: ceton is putting a proposal together to update the cable card spec
[23:30:11] Hydr0p0nX: mainly to address the disparity in CCI 0 == optional for cable companies, but, no CCI == fall back to analog copy control measures for tuners
[23:31:27] Hydr0p0nX: just in case anyone else is dealing with an issue of cable co says they are sending Copy Freely even though you're seeing Copy Once (or something else) on your tuner... I got bit by AMC on Charter due to it
