[01:14:48] | PatrickDickey: | Hi everyone. So I moved my master backend to a Fedora computer. Everything *seems* to be working right on it (as I can view my recorded programs from that computer). However I can't connect with any remote frontends. I get the setup screen where you select your language, and regardless of what I choose there, the frontend crashes and comes back to that same screen. I've verified that my backend is using an IP address other |
[01:14:48] | PatrickDickey: | than localhost, and the config.xml and mysql.txt files on the frontends point there. Any suggestions? |
[01:15:25] | [R]: | firewall? |
[01:16:31] | wagnerrp: | is the database server configured to listen on the network? |
[01:16:54] | Kwisher: | PatrickDickey: did you check the db password? |
[01:18:24] | PatrickDickey: | Yes. I think it's right. I have the same one in all of my configs, as what's on the Fedora backend. However, the one frontend has MySQL on it, and the mythtv user has a different password. |
[01:19:14] | PatrickDickey: | The frontend I'm talking about used to be the master backend (I removed the backend completely). So, would I need to change the password on it also? |
[01:20:02] | Kwisher: | i think they all need to be the same |
[01:23:22] | PatrickDickey: | One other quick question then. When I backed up my database on the old backend, would it have backed up the password there? |

[01:31:38] | [R]: | it would tell you... |
[01:42:52] | Blue1: | WoW. I got some very strange message in the log — the problem turned out to be that the hdhomerun tuner was not plugged in. When you plug it in, you need to restart the backend. I dunno - |

[01:58:36] | PatrickDickey: | What I noticed in mythfrontend.log is that it tries pinging the master backend, and then it binds to the IP addresses on the frontend computer. Then it fails to open a connection. |
[01:59:02] | wagnerrp: | can we see the logs? |
[02:00:02] | PatrickDickey: | Sure. I'll pastebin the frontend one in a few minutes. I'll have to clean it up a bit, since it's got a lot of old information in it. |

[05:41:02] | PatrickDickey: | Well I do get closed captioning on my tv that's not hooked to mythtv. |
[05:41:17] | Blue1: | yes, captioning is function of the tv set |
[05:41:40] | Blue1: | so if the tv set can't get the captions — then you might need to enable that on the tv |
[05:42:05] | wagnerrp: | mythtv processes line21 captions on its own. it does not pass them onto the tv |
[05:42:36] | Blue1: | oh I didn't know that. |

[05:44:26] | Blue1: | wagnerrp: do you know of a way to create a dvd with the captioning information? nothing I've tried seems to work – it display fine from a recorded source. |

[05:44:49] | wagnerrp: | don't know. never cared to do anything with closed captioning |

[05:45:11] | Blue1: | I am hoh and depend on captioning. |
[05:46:30] | Blue1: | I don't know how myth treats captioning – but generally a captioning decoder is needed – that's built into all 13 inch tv sets sold after 1994. |
[05:46:42] | Blue1: | 13 inch and bigger |
[05:48:17] | wagnerrp: | mythtv being able to handle it depends on whether the card exposes the information |
[05:48:18] | wagnerrp: | many dont |
[05:52:48] | PatrickDickey: | Hmmm... The one that I'm mainly trying to get it working on is a 32" HDTV. But I'm using a DVI to HDMI connector. That could explain a lot too. |
[05:54:06] | wagnerrp: | neither DVI nor HDMI carry text data |
[05:54:26] | wagnerrp: | if you're going to see it, mythtv needs to bake it into the image before it gets output by the video card |
[05:54:49] | Blue1: | check to see the captioning is enabled on the set. |
[05:57:42] | PatrickDickey: | Possibly a dumb question then. Does it work with S-Video? |
[05:57:57] | wagnerrp: | s-video can do old line 21 analog |
[05:58:02] | Blue1: | no |
[05:58:12] | wagnerrp: | but i doubt you could successfully output that from a PC video card |

[16:39:26] | wagnerrp: | wait... you said two different things |
[16:39:34] | wagnerrp: | you want to route music from mythtv to the rpi |

[19:23:31] | wagnerrp: | delays |
