[01:38:08] somethinginteres: No matter what playback profile I try, my recordings and livetv are squashed to half the screen size. They all look fine in external players.
[01:51:10] Korny: So half the height, what about width
[01:58:08] somethinginteres: Korny: looks to be about half high half width. The other half of the screen is taken up by lines, the colour of the frame of video being displayed. Nothing is cut off on the video that is shown it's just squashed to that half size.

[02:05:15] somethinginteres: Korny: some of the channels/recordings are also just plain solid green. I can't figure out a pattern for when this occurs. I have an NVIDIA gfx card w/ proprietary driver
[02:05:39] Korny: You using vpadu?
[02:07:20] somethinginteres: Korny: nope I've got an 8800GTS which doesn't have vdpau support. Looks like it's using ffmpeg for video decode. atm set to Normal Playback profile but I've tried all others as well as a custom one trying to use just opengl

[02:09:13] Korny: I'm not an expert on the playback profiles, I right now am using vpadu on 1 box and opengl on my intel box
[02:09:27] Korny: Sounds like a interlacing issue though maybe?
[02:09:53] Korny: Do your menus look normal when not playing videos?
[02:10:12] somethinginteres: Korny: yeah menus look fine.

[15:32:56] jtonthebike: is anyone available for a bit of support? TIA
[15:37:03] Kwisher: jtonthebike: what distro?
[15:37:39] jtonthebike: ubuntu
[15:38:16] jtonthebike: Description: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
[15:38:27] Kwisher: did you install mythbuntu-control-centre?
[15:38:28] jtonthebike: thanks for the reply Kwisher
[15:38:32] jtonthebike: oh, no?
[15:38:45] jtonthebike: i don't recall installing it...
[15:39:14] jtonthebike: it's a regular release of ubuntu with myth tv installed on top of it
[15:40:01] Kwisher: i woul recommend installing that package
[15:40:23] Kwisher: you can then select mythweb and it should just work

[15:44:25] Kwisher: this is on your backend, correct?
[15:44:31] jtonthebike: yeah
[15:45:06] Kwisher: what version of myth?
[15:45:13] jtonthebike: 0.27
[15:45:19] Kwisher: ok
[15:51:57] jtonthebike: all the plugins had corresponding ticks next to them, so, i un-ticked and pressed apply, i'll see about pushing the installation via my vnc session rather than cli
[15:56:08] jtonthebike: still the same and i also restarted Apache
[15:58:14] Kwisher: when i setup my myth system from scratch, mythbuntu-control-centre is the first thing i install
[15:58:40] Kwisher: i then just go down the list to enable/install what features i want
[15:59:04] Kwisher: never had an issue with mythweb
[15:59:10] jtonthebike: that's the ideal ;) i just don't understand why i get a 404 on everything i click on in the homepage of /mythweb
[15:59:35] Kwisher: maybe a permissions issue??
[16:00:02] jtonthebike: could be ... any thoughts on where I need to look?
[16:00:24] jtonthebike: mucho appreciated help so far, thanks!

[16:02:47] Kwisher: is this a new install?
[16:03:50] jtonthebike: not really, as mythtv, it's been running for a while
[16:04:00] jtonthebike: a year or so
[16:04:23] jtonthebike: just never sorted out mythweb and i'm supposed to be working, not fixing this, but it's bothering me and i'd like to sort it out
[16:04:23] Kwisher: and you never used mythweb before?

[17:58:44] wagnerrp: stop completely? there is no response in the UI when you press buttons?
[17:58:50] MrBackhand: correctc
[17:59:25] MrBackhand: the USB receiver flashes but the remote does not work
[17:59:28] wagnerrp: then it's an issue with your lircrc config
[17:59:53] wagnerrp: the other option was that X was picking up the device, and you were being sent key presses from both lirc and X simultaneously
[18:00:06] wagnerrp: terminating lircd, you would have still received events from X, were that the case
[18:00:24] MrBackhand: yes, thats what i was thinking, and i thoughtstopping the service would fix it, then got stumped when it stopped completely

[20:32:55] parann0yed: what is clear qam?
[20:33:02] wagnerrp: unencrypted digital cable
[20:33:07] parann0yed: oh
[20:35:11] parann0yed: are you familiar with powerline adapters?
[20:35:32] warped_ (warped_!~piotro@89-79-251-78.dynamic.chello.pl) has quit (Quit: warped_)
[20:35:42] wagnerrp: i know of them, i've never used one
[20:36:29] parann0yed: i need to test the network speed. I have one powerline switch that supposedly does a form of qos.
[20:37:04] parann0yed: and my router is a netgear gigabit dual band router
[20:38:16] wagnerrp: got a laptop, or a computer connected directly to the router?
[20:38:32] Scopeuk-AFK is now known as Scopeuk
[20:39:00] parann0yed: yes i do
[20:39:19] wagnerrp: install iperf on both, test the throughput between them
[20:39:57] parann0yed: ok
[20:40:36] wagnerrp: you may want to do the UDP test as well
[20:40:58] wagnerrp: have the directly connected machine serve 50Mbps, and see what loss you get on the other sie
[20:41:00] wagnerrp: side
[20:41:20] haux: Thanks wagnerrp
[20:41:47] haux: I was talking about HD in mpeg4 from Hauppauge HDPVR
[20:42:12] haux: I know the mythtv can transcode mpeg2-HD without a problem
[20:42:13] wagnerrp: mythtranscode does not support lossless h264 cutting
[20:42:25] wagnerrp: and any actual transcode will be to a less efficient format
[20:42:27] haux: ok
[20:43:02] haux: what card tv can let me record hd in mpeg2 not mpeg4 ?
[20:43:19] haux: any help is really welcome
[20:43:34] wagnerrp: the HDPVR is a capture device, not a tv tuner
[20:43:40] wagnerrp: so it actually compresses locally
[20:43:55] wagnerrp: any digital tuner will merely pass whatever format it gets off the wire to mythtv
[20:48:52] haux: if I get win tv hvr-1600 can I save the video in mpeg2+HD with mythtv. Is this card capable to receive hd video format (not sd) ?
[20:49:21] wagnerrp: the HVR-1600 is a digital tuner, so it will capture in whatever format the broadcaster is sending, which will be MPEG2
[20:49:36] wagnerrp: however if you're currently using an HDPVR, you're not using a tuner
[20:49:43] wagnerrp: you're capturing from some external device
[20:49:58] wagnerrp: and the HVR-1600 is only capable of capturing standard definition from external devices
[20:50:25] wagnerrp: what are you recording with this HDPVR?
[20:50:39] haux: HD tv
[20:50:55] wagnerrp: yes... but you're recording from something
[20:50:57] wagnerrp: what is it?
[20:51:17] haux: but I will replace it I want a configuration that can let me transcode and remove commercials for video in HD mpeg2
[20:51:47] haux: motorolla vip2262
[20:51:54] haux: from Bell Provider
[20:52:03] haux: http://support.bell.ca/_web/guides/TV/UserGui . . . 2262(en).pdf
[20:52:14] wagnerrp: so there is no way to access that content with a tuner
[20:52:19] wagnerrp: the only option is analog capture from a box
[20:52:33] wagnerrp: so if you want HD, the only option is the HDPVR you currently have
[20:52:48] haux: ok :-(
[20:53:00] haux: I see
[20:53:14] wagnerrp: there are some external utilities that will do lossless cutting on h264 content, but i've not used them
[20:53:26] clever: fibreop?
[20:53:39] haux: yea tv+internet via fiber
[20:54:10] clever: got the same service here, every computer on the network has access to the tv stream, but its encrypted
[20:54:19] clever: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Fibreop
[20:54:52] wagnerrp: in other words, only usable with their box and analog capture
[20:55:14] clever: yep
[20:55:33] wagnerrp: and even if not, it seems its H264, and so you would be in the same situation (with respect to cutting)
[20:55:41] haux: clever : do you use any card/box with mythtv to recod video ?
[20:55:44] wagnerrp: although arguably a much better situation for recording
[20:56:02] clever: haux: all i have is a pvr-150, it would look like crap, so i dont even bother right now
[20:56:28] clever: and yes, the DVR bell gives us is crap
[20:56:37] haux: lol
[20:56:41] clever: half the time it refuses to respond because its busy, the drive is already full
[20:56:46] clever: the ui is laggy as heck
[20:56:54] dougiel (dougiel!~doug@S0106744401495b56.wp.shawcable.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[20:56:59] clever: if i hit exit to close the UI, it stops playing the recording and goes back to live tv
[20:57:37] haux: strange for me the ui is fast (I used to have a TV satelite with them, it's a big difference)
[20:57:57] clever: maybe it only gets slow once you have a large number of recordings
[20:58:13] haux: ok, I have less than 50 recordings
[20:58:14] clever: it was taking up to a minute today to delete a single recording
[20:58:21] haux: lol
[20:58:21] clever: and i couldnt even scroll or close the ui, until it finished

[20:59:37] clever: also, the service guy claimed you could watch tv on the free ipad mini they toss at you
[20:59:58] clever: but you cant, all you can do is push youtube videos from the ipad to the STB, which then crashes if you even think of turning the ipad off
[21:00:02] dashs (dashs!~dave@dashs.denver.co.us) has quit (Quit: Leaving)
[21:00:08] haux: sorry again with my stupid question. What about "Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1950 TV Tuner USB External Hybrid Video Recorder" it's an mpeg2 encoder
[21:00:24] wagnerrp: and standard definition
[21:00:48] haux: from Hauppauge:
[21:00:52] haux: Features:
[21:00:52] haux: Watch ATSC HD digital TV, up to 1080i format
[21:01:02] clever: thats for unencrypted digital tv, on coax
[21:01:06] wagnerrp: the digital tuner will receive whatever is being transmitted
[21:01:10] clever: fibreop isnt even on coax
[21:01:14] wagnerrp: analog capture on that device is standard definition only
[21:01:31] haux: but the fiberop pvr has a coax as an output
[21:01:42] clever: thats ethernet over coax, not normal tv coax
[21:01:51] haux: oups !
[21:01:57] clever: oh wait, the output is just NTSC out, analog SD
[21:02:16] clever: the input is ethernet over the same wire, so you dont have to string ethernet all over your house, reuse the old coax wires
[21:02:23] wagnerrp: while something like Verizon FiOS is actually a traditional cable signal coming in off the fiber, Fiberop is IPTV
[21:02:41] haux: from the catalog
[21:02:46] haux: Coaxial standard definition output to connect video and audio to the TV or VCR
[21:02:50] haux: tv out in sd
[21:03:03] haux: and it gives also s-video in hd
[21:03:06] haux: from catalog
[21:03:10] clever: then you cant capture HD tv, it wont look as good
[21:03:12] haux: S-VIDEo
[21:03:12] haux: Provides high quality standard definition video output (for audio you must connect
[21:03:12] haux: either optical output audio out R and l).
[21:03:12] clever: same reason i'm not using my pvr-150
