[00:09:00] dahlSTROM is now known as dahlSTROM|sleep
[00:13:33] Oleg_: I don't understand why there is an option to turn the auto-expire feature on if it's always on anyway
[00:13:44] Oleg_: or is it not?
[00:14:19] Oleg_ (Oleg_!~mythtv@pool-71-183-189-68.nycmny.east.verizon.net) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)

[00:15:35] Oleg_: this feature deletes live tv recordings, right?
[00:17:42] skd5aner: Oleg_: deletes any recording (or live tv) that is set to allow autoexpire to free up disk space on the recording storage group
[00:18:36] Oleg_: no, I don't wanna delete the recordings that are in my media library
[00:19:18] skd5aner: then, you can disable auto-expire on them
[00:20:16] Oleg_: but every live recording that doesn't end up in the media library will always auto-expire, right?
[00:20:30] Oleg_: I am confused
[00:20:34] skd5aner: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:Detail . . . utoExpire.29 – make sre the autoexpire is unchecked as a default on all new recoridng rules, and then go back and mnaully updated any existing rules hsould they have had autoexpire defaulted to on
[00:20:53] skd5aner: Live TV recordings will autoexpire, correct...
[00:23:41] skd5aner: Autoexpire is, generally, on by default for all recordings AND live tv...
[00:24:08] skd5aner: autoexpire is set on a rule-by-rule basis for recordings, and if the default is checked on, all *new* recording rules will use that default...
[00:24:24] skd5aner: you can disable auto-expire on the rule for a recording...
[00:24:43] Oleg_: ok
[00:24:48] skd5aner: you can also disable (or enable) it on a recoridng itself
[00:25:08] skd5aner: LiveTV defaults to auto-expire after 1 day
[00:25:27] skd5aner: you can change that, for example – I set LiveTV to expire after 3 days
[00:25:55] skd5aner: anything you delete, now, also goes in to the deleted recording group, which autoexpires too
[00:30:18] Oleg_: ok

[02:28:23] nvzn: are proprietary codecs available for dts-hd ma / dolby-truehd for linux decoding to linear pcm?
[02:28:28] nvzn: surely ...
[02:28:30] nvzn: ?
[02:28:43] nvzn: but for consumers?
[02:28:51] nvzn: or lay-people
[02:29:09] nvzn: open source would be better, assuming they are well done of course
[02:29:34] wagnerrp: huh?
[02:29:36] nvzn: but i guess studios and such have these
[02:30:02] nvzn: jya:?
[02:30:24] nvzn: anyway i can try to search, but i assume i wouldn't be able to afford such a codec
[02:30:35] nvzn: but maybe i am wrong
[02:31:08] wagnerrp: mythtv does not use external codecs anyway
[02:31:11] haux (haux!~haux@70.48.141.17) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:31:22] nvzn: well the engines do somewhere
[02:31:24] wagnerrp: so unless you want to spend the untold hours trying to splice it into the source, don't even worry about it
[02:31:50] nvzn: ffmpeg?
[02:31:59] nvzn: mencoder?
[02:32:06] nvzn: xine?
[02:32:20] wagnerrp: ffmpeg, built into mythtv
[02:32:32] wagnerrp: we don't pull libraries from the system, we package our own
[02:34:02] haux: hi every one here
[02:34:29] haux: I am testing lossless_Cut with mythtv v0.27
[02:34:41] haux: I get this error
[02:34:43] haux: d@mythtv ~ $ keyframe_adjust -f /var/lib/mythtv/2205_20131017193000.mpg -g
[02:34:43] haux: This MythTV recording has no recordedseek table first keyframe record.
[02:34:43] haux: It is likely that the recordedseek table records for this recording is
[02:34:43] haux: invalid, aborting script.
[02:35:06] haux: no idea how I can fix this any suggestion ? thanks !
[02:35:32] haux: with test it works
[02:35:35] haux: python /usr/share/lossless_cut/lossless_cut.py -f "/var/lib/mythtv/2205_20131017193000.mpg" --test
[02:35:43] haux: python /usr/share/lossless_cut/lossless_cut.py -f "/var/lib/mythtv/2205_20131017193000.mpg" --test
[02:35:50] haux: Congratulations! All script dependencies have been satisfied.
[02:35:50] haux: You are ready to perform loss less cuts on MythTV recorded videos.
[02:37:06] wagnerrp: if it's just an mpeg, why not use the built in transcoder?
[02:38:17] haux: it is a 1080i video mythtranscode (what I undestood) doesn't cut commercials for this format
[02:38:36] wagnerrp: sure, it should handle any mpeg2
[02:38:41] wagnerrp: it cannot handle mpeg4
[02:38:52] haux: so I am looking for an alternative. What I've found so far is lossless_cut script
[02:39:00] haux: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Lossless_Cut
[02:39:21] wagnerrp: have you even tried the built in transcoder?
[02:39:22] haux: I have hdpvr 1212 mythtv record the video in 1080i what can I do :- )
[02:39:33] wagnerrp: ah, the HDPVR produces mpeg4
[02:39:35] haux: no never have this chance
[02:39:37] wagnerrp: so no go with the internal
[02:39:56] haux: yea ! for 200$ I am not ready to buy another one :-)
[02:41:07] haux: sorry wagnerrp, you mean what by "go with the internal" ?
[02:41:24] wagnerrp: the internal transcoder has lossless capability for mpeg2
[02:41:44] wagnerrp: the only reason to use an alternative is because the internal one will not work for your needs
[02:41:55] wagnerrp: mpeg2, it would... but you're using an hdpvr which outputs mpeg4
[02:41:58] haux: but I am not sure that Mythtv can recoed to mpeg2 directlly from hdpvr 1212 !!!????
[02:47:11] haux: thanks wagnerrp. So if I understand there is no way to remove commercials with Mythtv if the video is in mpeg4 ? the only way is to use a pvr that output in mpeg2 format ?
[02:47:36] wagnerrp: with mpeg4, mythtv can mark them, and skip them internally
[02:47:45] wagnerrp: but it has no way to permanently remove those from the file
[02:48:29] nvzn: do you tin your speaker wires?
[02:50:18] nvzn: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/to . . . peaker-wire/
[02:50:26] nvzn: datafone's answer is the best
[02:50:50] haux: wagnerrp : thanks again, I am new to mythtv so sorry for the stupid questions :-) . Is there a pvr that can send the video to mythtv in mpeg2 format and is not too expensive ?
[02:51:13] wagnerrp: anything that outputs MPEG2 is going to be standard definition
[02:51:30] wagnerrp: if you want high definition, the only option is the HDPVR, and that only does MPEG4
[02:53:40] wagnerrp: the only value to "tinning" is to make it easier to put into the terminal
[02:53:54] nvzn: i see
[02:54:06] nvzn: do you deoxit?
[02:54:35] wagnerrp: no
[02:54:42] nvzn: poor soul
[02:56:15] nvzn: never have, never will again

[03:41:12] nvzn: well, and the ability to tell an analog junky that digital is better
[03:41:39] nvzn: but in the end, its all about the dac

[03:58:42] wagnerrp: huh?
[03:59:20] nvzn: well, assuming there is *some* quality gains in hd audio
[03:59:33] wagnerrp: the only realistic gain is additional channels
[03:59:46] nvzn: no, its the lossless stream
[03:59:50] nvzn: more data
[03:59:53] nvzn: uncompressed
[04:00:06] wagnerrp: it's compressed, but lossless and "HD" are two different things
[04:00:18] nvzn: ok, i mean lossless
[04:00:26] wagnerrp: "HD audio" refers to the sampling frequency and bits
[04:01:15] nvzn: ok, its a standard?
[04:01:50] wagnerrp: kind of
[04:01:58] nvzn: a certification?
[04:02:19] wagnerrp: in so far as HD video is a certification (it's not, at all)
[04:02:59] nvzn: well anyway, its the highest quality being output from the studio, so I guess in that sense, its lossless
[04:03:05] nvzn: ?
[04:03:44] wagnerrp: again, lossy compression and being "HD" are independent
[04:04:07] nvzn: ok whatever
[04:04:13] nvzn: thanks
[04:04:16] nvzn: for the clarificaiton
[04:04:24] nvzn: but still, its besides the point
[04:04:44] nvzn: i was trying to say that receivers are unnecessary on an htpc setup
[04:05:39] nvzn: and you were of course mentioning how we couldn't realistically hear the difference
[04:05:59] wagnerrp: and unless you're going for the additional audio channels, software can decode the core DTA track inside DTS-MA
[04:06:24] nvzn: which additional channels are they?
[04:06:49] wagnerrp: i think you get an extra front center channels, and two side channels
[04:07:07] nvzn: 7.1?
[04:07:20] wagnerrp: 7 or 8, i don't recall
[04:07:29] nvzn: theres more to it though
[04:07:34] nvzn: iirc
[04:07:42] nvzn: but i'm not sure
[04:07:58] wagnerrp: higher frequency and 24-bit
[04:08:06] nvzn: ie., lossless?
[04:08:06] wagnerrp: but 16-bit and 48kHz are more than enough
[04:08:11] nvzn: says you
[04:08:16] wagnerrp: says physics
[04:08:18] nvzn: but there are some with superhuman abilities
[04:08:19] wagnerrp: and math
[04:08:43] wagnerrp: and studies that have yet to find such a person with superhuman hearing
[04:08:48] nvzn: my cat
[04:09:14] wagnerrp: your cat is a person?
[04:09:23] nvzn: ask them
[04:09:33] nvzn: cats actually
[04:09:52] nvzn: but i fact they may individually identify in the plural too
[04:09:53] wagnerrp: i don't think they'll respond in a discernible fashion
[04:10:10] nvzn: i just want to please them
[04:10:24] nvzn: and not displease them of course
[04:10:34] nvzn: so if i can have more frequencies
[04:10:36] nvzn: i will
[04:10:49] nvzn: (try)
[04:11:27] nvzn: besides, we don't only hear with our ears
[04:12:28] wagnerrp: we do for high frequencies

[22:01:01] sphery: haux: the digital side of it is very straightforward, but a lot of people have troubles with the analog side of it (and other ivtv-compatible cards)
[22:01:48] sphery: but if you're just using it for digital ATSC (over-the-air in North America) or unencrypted QAM (which is about to disappear, completely, in the US), it should be simple
[22:02:14] sphery: but if you do have cable, note that it will almost definitely be useless "soon" (any time from already to a few months from now)
