[00:21:40] Darkchaos: hmm, must be the network getting slower I believe. having 500KB/s Transfer cannot keeep up the needed 1MB/s
[00:21:50] Darkchaos: that explains the laggy feeling, having only 50%
[00:22:40] wagnerrp: when you ping, how much loss are you getting?
[00:22:59] wagnerrp: or is it zero loss, but high latency, as the physical layer transparently retransmits?
[00:23:43] Darkchaos: loss would be "Cannot reach host"?
[00:23:50] Darkchaos: if so, I am having no loss
[00:25:26] wagnerrp: i would get something like iperf, and see just how much throughput you actually have
[00:28:01] Darkchaos: ok
[00:28:50] Darkchaos: do i need two iperf units?
[00:29:08] wagnerrp: one on each end, yes
[00:29:21] Darkchaos: hmm
[00:29:40] Darkchaos: difficult on windows :/
[00:29:41] wagnerrp: you should be able to find a copy for osx
[00:30:04] Darkchaos: but then I have the wifi lag again
[00:30:09] wagnerrp: http://iperf.fr/
[00:30:12] Darkchaos: but that'll be a smaller problem
[00:30:14] wagnerrp: windows binaries
[00:31:36] Darkchaos: now which one should be the server? The one receiving?
[00:31:54] wagnerrp: doesn't much matter
[00:32:19] wagnerrp: it should be symmetric
[00:34:47] Darkchaos: Get around 4MBits/sec
[00:34:50] Kwisher (Kwisher!~kevin@c-98-212-119-100.hsd1.in.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:35:03] Darkchaos: however having a really small window size of 23.5kByte
[00:35:41] wagnerrp: mythtv dynamically scales, but usually ends up around 100kB or so

[00:36:56] Darkchaos: oh ok, and according to the formula of iperf, I should have 50kB
[00:37:06] Darkchaos: (because of the "fast" ping)

[00:38:34] Darkchaos: That'll be it
[00:38:43] Darkchaos: 4Mbits for a 6Mbit recording
[00:39:04] Darkchaos: and maybe I did not notice because of having worse quality on other recordings
[00:39:20] Darkchaos: and you consider wifi faster?
[00:39:24] cesman (cesman!~cesman@pdpc/supporter/professional/cesman) has quit (Client Quit)
[00:39:33] Darkchaos: however I only have a "h"-device
[00:40:02] wagnerrp: faster than 4Mbps, typically
[00:40:08] wagnerrp: but also typically not fast enough
[00:40:12] wagnerrp: especially if it's only G
[00:40:24] Darkchaos: not fast enough for HD?
[00:40:38] wagnerrp: and regardless of speed, you're still going to have intermittent dropouts
[00:44:32] Darkchaos: btw it's not usual that mythtv stops the recording too early? (shouldn't be there start/stop signals?)
[00:45:42] wagnerrp: it will stop when you schedule it to stop
[00:45:49] wagnerrp: start/stop signals?
[00:46:07] Darkchaos: Something like TP on the Radio, you know?
[00:46:36] wagnerrp: well there is EIT data, but that typically cannot be relied upon for accurate scheduling
[00:46:49] wagnerrp: better to just add a few minutes of padding on either end, and make sure your clock is correct
[00:47:42] Darkchaos: hmm I have 30mins of a live show in the beginning, that might be the problem
[00:49:20] wagnerrp: usually, if you're trying to record something after a sporting event, add lots of padding to the recording rule
[00:50:49] Darkchaos: it seems that my hwclock is 1m off
[00:51:07] wagnerrp: users typically configure NTP to maintain their clocks
[00:51:23] manofthesea: Hey guys. I'm having trouble with RTP on 0.27, on a Debian wheezy machine. I have a 4-tuner Ceton PCIe card. I can tune it with the web page and see the stream, but MythTV can't give me live TV. The errors show that it never receives a non-zero, after trying to tune. Could anyone suggest a debugging step?
[00:51:27] Darkchaos: yes that's what I'll do

[01:06:47] lwizardl: with the ceton cablecard tuner is the only thing that doesn't work the ondemand stuff or will it also have problems with channels like hbo ?
[01:07:14] wagnerrp: if channels like HBO are copy protected (and they typically are on comcast), you will be unable to record them
[01:07:15] lwizardl: and how do I find out what my local comcast has set for the copy settings
[01:07:26] wagnerrp: cablecard tuners allow us to access encrypted channels
[01:07:35] wagnerrp: but for anything copy protected, you need to go analog with an HDPVR
[01:08:01] lwizardl: I have a hdpvr 1212 already.
[01:08:29] lwizardl: and was looking at adding a ceton to my system so I would basically have 5 recording devices
[01:09:17] manofthesea: lwizardl: mostly, by getting the cablecard device and seeing what you see.
[01:09:34] manofthesea: Though, you could watch the copy protected with Windows Media Center.
[01:10:23] lwizardl: manofthesea, pass on the windows idea :)

[02:16:09] wagnerrp: i know nothing about the operation of the infinitv tuner
[02:16:34] manofthesea: My understanding is that it should act like any of the ethernet or external tuners.
[02:16:40] manofthesea: Do those use RTP?
[02:16:58] wagnerrp: the hdhomerun is UDP
[02:22:07] manofthesea: Raw UDP? or RTP over UDP?
[02:22:59] lucas^: so I noticed that there's no official Android / iOS app for the HDHR Prime yet
[02:22:59] wagnerrp: UDP instead of RTP
[02:23:32] manofthesea: UDP is a lower layer than RTP. Hmm, I'mma try 0.26

[20:48:47] smoothifier: i'm wondering if i should just bite the bullet and make a new backend altogether.

[23:45:10] Darkchaos: fucking hate it. Yesterday I had a 4Mbit/s bandwith with HomePlug, so I tried to switch to Wifi, which pinged faster and sometimes packages needed to be retransmit. was about 2MBit/s
[23:45:28] Darkchaos: Now I retired HomePlug letting it buffer years, now I fucking have 11MBit/s
[23:46:38] Darkchaos: however INet say's 720p = 20+Mbps, however my recording has 13MBps
[23:49:18] Darkchaos: and I am only lacking a 12th second each second...
[23:50:25] wagnerrp: please watch the language
