[01:32:35] mattwj2002: are you the 9.1 TB dude?
[01:33:02] Hydr0p0nX: I have ~6TB allocated to myth storage
[01:33:15] mattwj2002: what much total space available?
[01:33:39] Hydr0p0nX: had a 160GB drive start failing, replaced it with a 500 gb
[01:33:57] Hydr0p0nX: so 340GB unpartitioned on the drive housing /
[01:34:18] mattwj2002: got ya
[01:34:21] mattwj2002: well....

[01:34:56] Hydr0p0nX: so ...
[01:35:12] mattwj2002: Hydr0p0nX: my mythtv is lazy
[01:35:29] mattwj2002: one partition for root
[01:35:32] Hydr0p0nX: oh, and myth doesn't have any of the subdirectories in /var/lib as a storage group
[01:35:41] mattwj2002: one partition for swap
[01:36:01] mattwj2002: what?
[01:36:08] mattwj2002: what is up with your storage group?
[01:36:13] Hydr0p0nX: umg

[01:36:23] Hydr0p0nX: lol
[01:37:03] Hydr0p0nX: I had a ~150GB / partition
[01:37:09] Hydr0p0nX: didn't need to use it for storage
[01:38:07] mattwj2002: haha

[01:41:32] Hydr0p0nX: i can do php, perl, batch, powershell (with some .net thrown in), simple c++ (dos based), jython, and ant scripting

[01:45:22] wagnerrp_: we provide the hardware, operating system, and software
[01:45:28] wagnerrp_: s/back/black/
[01:45:42] wagnerrp_: there should be no reason to do anything in java
[01:46:04] wagnerrp_: to be fair, it's only the operator frontend that is java
[01:46:57] Hydr0p0nX: well, that's not terrible
[01:47:07] Hydr0p0nX: but, the java i support is server side
[01:47:10] Hydr0p0nX: web based products
[01:47:29] Hydr0p0nX: on that end, you can't beat
[01:47:44] Hydr0p0nX: java, i've had 40+apps running on a cluster of 4 servers with room to spare
[01:47:51] wagnerrp_: sure you can, with just about anything properly compiled
[01:48:22] wagnerrp_: the only reason to use java is because it runs in a virtual machine and so can (in theory) be run anywhere
[01:48:26] wagnerrp_: although that never really happens
[01:48:37] Hydr0p0nX: eh, I work for a software company
[01:49:05] Hydr0p0nX: did implementation for a while, installed our app in Windows, Linux, AIX, and solaris
[01:50:26] Hydr0p0nX: only difference in packaging, was for things like, Websphere wants jndi's as jdbc/database , weblogic wants it as java:/

[01:52:28] Hydr0p0nX: i'm not saying it's another option
[01:52:53] Hydr0p0nX: I have seen a number of apps that don't need to run in java
[01:53:57] Hydr0p0nX: but, like everything else, it's down to developing it correctly
[01:56:59] Hydr0p0nX: wagnerrp_, what's typical for myth's database growth ?

[01:58:31] Hydr0p0nX: oops
[01:59:11] Hydr0p0nX: i'm thinking first year of use for reference.... just trying to figure out if i'd do better to allocate a bunch of space to /var/lib/mythtv or just to the / partition
[02:00:21] wagnerrp_: what do you need a bunch of space in /var for?
[02:00:52] wagnerrp_: it's just logs, PID files, spools, and runtime variables
[02:01:50] Hydr0p0nX: i don't
[02:02:16] Hydr0p0nX: that's why i'm asking if allocating to database or just / would be more reasonable ?
[02:04:33] Hydr0p0nX: i said /var/lib/mythtv, but it looks like /var/lib/mysql would be a better option for database storage

[04:26:45] biff2: I'm on night 2 (of 2, I hope!) upgrading 1 backend and 1 frontend from 12.04 to 12.10 to 13.04.
[04:27:56] biff2: I am right at the end of stuff, installing the ppa for the hdhomerun files to get the kernel module for the hdhomerun. I saw the instructions on http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/dvbhdhomerun . . . untuPackages that said that I might need to put my tuner type in /etc/dvbhdhomerun
[04:28:20] biff2: I checked /etc/dvbhdhomerun, and I have different tuner types on each of them. What crack was who smoking when they did that?
[04:28:40] biff2: tuner_type=DVB-T for one, and tuner_type=DVB-C for the other.
[04:29:02] biff2: ok, off to go reboot into new kernels, 13.04 on the server.

[14:31:09] Ankhwatcher: Hey I want to use a raspberry pi to check an EPG and call wake-on-lan when there is something scheduled to be recorded
[14:31:37] Ankhwatcher: the pi would wake my home server which would record MythTV in the usual way
[14:32:04] Ankhwatcher: is there an EPG application which could do this?
[14:40:19] clever: it would be FAR from optimal, but one poor solution is to just run the master backend and a frontend on the pi, the master can wake slaves up to record, and the frontend has EPG
[14:40:28] clever: but the reschedule times will suffer massively
[14:42:43] biffhero: clever: I wonder if that slow initial scheduling would only matter if you are in a big hurry. "Oh, no, the game starts in 2 minutes! Go, go, go!"
[14:43:49] clever: its mostly a matter of marking something to record, and the ui doesnt update for 2 minutes, did you hit a wrong key?, is it just slow?
[14:44:04] clever: once i moved my backend out of the poor old 200mhz P2, things got much much better
[14:59:19] sphery: Ankhwatcher: better would be to use MythTV's shutdown support, which calls a script and passes a wakeup time, and that script could easily send a message to the pi that schedules the pi to do the waking up
[14:59:57] clever: yeah, that might be better
[15:00:08] sphery: Ankhwatcher: generally, most people use that master-backend shutdown support to set an RTC alarm using ACPI, but nothing says you /have/ to do it that way (you get the time and can do with it what you desire)
[15:01:11] sphery: that way you rely on all of MythTV's knowledge/interpretation of the schedule (and things you can't guess from the listings themselves--such as start early and ...) as well as knowledge of when it needs to do other things (like run grabbers and ...)
[15:02:15] sphery: i.e. it's actually a travesty that no one has written up a nice little description of that kind of approach (since it's probably easier than RTC wakeup, and most people have something--even if just an openwrt router--always on that could easily do a wakeonlan)
[15:02:48] sphery: so if you do it, feel free to write up a nice little description of how you did it on the wiki

[22:54:18] SparksIT: So I recently replace my router, and my mythtv box had a ip reservation, that I had forgotten about. And now when I boot up my box it opens into the front end, but it completely locks up.
[22:54:59] SparksIT: if I hit ESC after about 10–15 minutes I get asked to exit, but I can't go any were from there
[22:55:36] SparksIT: Is there any thing I can do to prevent MythTV fronted from booting?
[22:57:04] SparksIT: I failed mention about 5–7 minutes in I get a error stating it could not connect to the backend, and ask if the IP address is correct
[22:57:21] SparksIT: but it goes away with out me being able to do anything
[23:01:29] __raven: how to access mythweb from internet via https? i always get 403

[23:34:24] Hydr0p0nX: __raven, 403 is forbidden ... sounds like you have an ACL misconfigured
[23:34:31] Hydr0p0nX: do the apache logs say anything ?

[23:36:36] __raven: oh
[23:36:41] __raven: not yet ill try
[23:36:42] Hydr0p0nX: made sure your VHost for SSL is pointing to the appropriate directory and that the apache user has rights for the directory
[23:36:45] Hydr0p0nX: ?
[23:37:52] __raven: anything else in the document root works with ssl without special config so i thought it is a symlink problem for the cgi/perl things but i dont know
[23:38:17] Hydr0p0nX: well
[23:39:01] Hydr0p0nX: increasing the logs will tell you more for sure, what else is running under the ssl host ?
[23:41:08] __raven: Hydr0p0nX, owncloud for example
[23:41:15] __raven: also a webapp

[23:45:01] twiggy2cents: I have 3 tuners, 2 tuners hooked up to antenna 1 and 1 tuner hooked up to antenna 2. Antenna 1 does all channels except chan y. Antenna 2 does all channels except chan x, but with less signal on most. I dont want to remove the channels, is the correct option to reduce channel priority on the low signal channels to -1(the other two are at 0)?
[23:46:58] __raven: Hydr0p0nX, its linked
[23:48:15] ralfp_ (ralfp_!~quassel@dslb-092-073-163-005.pools.arcor-ip.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:48:40] Hydr0p0nX: twiggy2cents, typically you would increase the priority for the preferred tuner
[23:49:27] twiggy2cents: The two tuners are equal and the one tuner has less signal on channels. I figured lowering priority and leaving the other two equal at 0 was fine
[23:49:45] Hydr0p0nX: docs say it will work
[23:50:11] Hydr0p0nX: __raven, does the apache user have read access ?
[23:50:57] Hydr0p0nX: actually, you'll probably need read and execute

[23:55:06] Hydr0p0nX: i'd say turn on debug logging, restart apache try it again and pastebin the logs if it's not obvious
[23:57:04] twiggy2cents: well all looks well according to the scheduler. I will see how it works
