[01:32:24] wagnerrp: the raspberry pi doesn't have bluetooth?
[01:35:47] GreyFoxx: Are you using one as a frontend?
[01:36:02] wagnerrp: i don't have one
[01:36:21] wagnerrp: i was thinking of getting a couple to scatter around the house, and link cell phones up to an asterisk box
[01:36:23] GreyFoxx: Ahh, I was considering buying one to play around with and that was one of the potential uses I wanted to testout :)
[01:36:34] GreyFoxx: cool
[01:36:49] wagnerrp: we have a set of cordless phones that do that currently
[01:37:01] wagnerrp: but we really need more cordless phones than can be managed by the single base
[01:37:32] wagnerrp: was looking at setting up an asterisk box to provide the same mechanism
[01:39:17] wagnerrp: i was hoping to use RPIs as cheap bluetooth receivers
[01:39:40] wagnerrp: GreyFoxx: the 256MB RPI as a frontend just isn't going to happen
[01:40:09] wagnerrp: there needs to be too much work done cleaning up mythfrontend to fit in the remaining memory after the graphics core gets its fill to be realistically accomplished
[01:40:20] GreyFoxx: There is a 512meg model I think
[01:40:29] wagnerrp: the 512MB version might be doable once someone writes OpenMAX support for mythtv
[01:40:34] GreyFoxx: but even that might be a stretch
[01:40:34] GreyFoxx: yeah

[01:43:43] wagnerrp: i wonder if licensing for a bluetooth module would have blown their budget
[01:43:56] wagnerrp: you have to independently license the mpeg2 decoder for it
[01:44:53] GreyFoxx: heh likely affected the $25 pricetag :)

[02:15:13] wagnerrp: up/down
[02:15:46] Blue1: okay let me try that
[02:16:05] wagnerrp: although most people stop changing channels, and just pre-record what they might want to watch
[02:16:46] Blue1: wagnerrp: I just got mythtv up about 30 min ago – a n00b to mythtv — but not linux
[02:17:07] Blue1: I might try to record my first show wish me luck

[02:19:21] croccydile: I think everything is working on mine now outside of a remote frontend, but its probably xbmc

[02:22:04] croccydile: Awrrr :(

[02:25:03] croccydile: Blue1: how is the hdhomerun anyways
[02:25:30] wagnerrp: Blue1: the point is, why do you want to do a "VCR style" recording
[02:25:37] wagnerrp: just tell mythtv to record a specific show
[02:28:11] wagnerrp: christ, 86 euro for a "bluetooth shield" for an RPi

[02:39:04] croccydile: I'm trying to manually use dvbscan on the 2nd tuner, and it keeps saying tuner failed too

[03:21:42] nerdboy4200: Quick question – I have a mythbackend server in a VM – I have 2 network interfaces on it with different addresses. I tried to use a comma to separate the addresses and it accepts them – but I am not able to connect to it from both addresses

[03:22:08] nerdboy4200: BTW – the mythbackend startup shows it listening on both addresses though

[03:22:54] nerdboy4200: heh
[03:23:42] nerdboy4200: I originally ran this in vbox – but am moving it over to kvm due to vbox borking when using full acceleration
[03:27:11] croccydile: This isnt good :(
[03:27:12] croccydile: ERROR: initial tuning failed
[03:27:14] croccydile: dumping lists (0 services)
[03:29:08] wagnerrp: heh...
[03:29:41] wagnerrp: nerdboy4200: the frontend will only connect to the IP address listed in that box
[03:29:57] wagnerrp: so until that is changed, there is no reason to listen on more than that single IP address listed in that box
[03:29:59] croccydile: Nothing wrong in saa7164, will check tda18271 now
[03:30:01] wagnerrp: as for VMs... why?
[03:30:37] wagnerrp: you're already on a unix-like operating system
[03:30:58] wagnerrp: if you want to isolate an application for ease of management, use something like chroot
[03:30:59] nerdboy4200: yeah – I know – it was mostly for convenience and originally was a test
[03:31:09] nerdboy4200: since I could easily move the VM from system to system
[03:31:20] wagnerrp: you can easily move a chroot from system to system
[03:31:45] nerdboy4200: well – I also went from a 32–64 bit system – so there was that as well...
[03:31:54] wagnerrp: assuming its the same basic CPU architecture, and a relatively similar Linux version, binary compatibility is rarely an issue
[03:32:00] nerdboy4200: true
[03:32:18] nerdboy4200: well – I guess 1 IP address it is then...
[03:33:00] nerdboy4200: well – it was at least worth a try.. you might want mythtv-setup to complain if someone uses multiple addresses – I comma separated it and it still accepted it
[03:33:30] wagnerrp: the UI doesn't complain, but i believe the code will ignore it and replace it with '127.0.0.1'
[03:33:57] wagnerrp: actually, the current version of the UI doesn't allow manual entry
[03:34:06] wagnerrp: it lets you select from the available addresses on the system
[03:34:59] nerdboy4200: ahh – still running 0.26 here under arch
[03:36:19] nerdboy4200: thanks for the answer... So why does it then listen in on all addresses you specify then if it won't accept from multiple – just a fluke?
[03:36:43] wagnerrp: huh?

[03:38:38] ** croccydile makes progress **
[03:39:05] croccydile: adding cal=1 to tda18271 forces it to calibrate on module load apparently, fixed 2nd ATSC
[03:39:15] wagnerrp: if you specify an address there, applications running on that host will only listen on that address
[03:39:19] nerdboy4200: ok – I put in "192.168.17.19,192.168.122.9" and when mythbackend starts up – I see it listening on both addresses
[03:40:06] wagnerrp: if you leave it blank, applications running on that host will listen on any available address, however the frontends require an address there in order to know where to connect, so the backend is programmed to respond to that as a fatal configuration error and terminate
[03:40:27] nerdboy4200: ahh – ok
[03:40:31] nerdboy4200: I wondered..
[03:40:45] nerdboy4200: I'll have to use 1 address then – that shouldn't be a problem...
[03:40:56] [R] ([R]!~rbox@unaffiliated/rbox) has quit (Quit: Leaving)
[03:40:59] wagnerrp: that secondary behavior is intended to allow you to limit the addresses the frontend may listen on

[05:02:37] wagnerrp: think of mythtv-setup as any task that might require the backend to be restarted to take effect
[05:03:00] wagnerrp: the network remote control is entirely in the frontend, so configuration of it is entirely in the frontend
[05:03:17] Blue1: wagnerrp: ahh thanks — I was looking in the wrong place.
[05:03:27] wagnerrp: that's not always the case, but it's a good general rule

[22:48:54] gelberg: wagnerrp: also you are an expert, the wiki does say "not for production use". but i'm encouraged by your confidence and will give 0.27-alpha a go
[22:48:54] wagnerrp: the distance makes no difference
[22:49:41] wagnerrp: my frontends are all network booted, so the only thing that ever needs to be done locally for them is to hit the power button
[22:50:22] wagnerrp: i still need to configure my shutdown scripts to use kexec though, rather than have to deal with full reboots
[22:50:32] gelberg: wagnerrp: again, if there is a boot / X / network issue, i would prefer to debug it in person
[22:50:33] wagnerrp: for some reason, they don't always come back up after a reboot
[22:50:54] wagnerrp: of course a remote power switch would do just as well
[23:00:22] wagnerrp: woo! asile seat opened up
