[00:45:52] red_: I have a PVR-350 analogue card im setting as a IVTV MPEG-2 encoder card – when I try to tune channels with the s-video as the input it finds 60ish "channels", tried recording off some of them and they don't work. My setup involves an rca cable conainting only a single video output connected to the s video port of the tuner card, how can i get mythtv to just record whats on the cable and not 'find' 60 channels

[01:24:55] wagnerrp: you can't "tune' using svideo inputs
[01:25:03] wagnerrp: you can't scan using svideo inputs
[01:25:10] wagnerrp: and svideo inputs do not accept RCA cables
[01:28:17] shubes (shubes!~shubes@tacs.shubes.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:29:24] red_: really....... looks like my explanation was confusing
[01:29:55] red_: got around the first two issues by doing the steps ot of order
[01:30:04] wagnerrp: it sounds like you're using composite (1-pin, 2-wire) to connect a cable/satellite box to analog capture on your PVR-350
[01:30:18] wagnerrp: the trouble is first, you can't tune baseband inputs
[01:30:36] wagnerrp: you must instead use some channel changing script to control this external box
[01:30:52] red_: theres no need
[01:30:56] wagnerrp: second, the box will ALWAYS output a signal, even if tuning was unsuccessful
[01:31:11] wagnerrp: so there is no way for mythtv to know if there is actually something available on that channel
[01:31:54] red_: i've got video and stuff atm
[01:32:12] red_: so that's no longer a concern – someone playing around with the box provding the signal
[01:32:42] red_: though what i record of that doesn't play back nicely – like fastforwards through 1 min of recording in two seconds
[01:34:37] shubes (shubes!~shubes@tacs.shubes.net) has quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
[01:35:38] red_: just following the steps in order without thinking for a bit heh
[01:36:30] wagnerrp: what exactly are you trying to record
[01:36:46] wagnerrp: it's almost certainly going to be advisable to get a DVB card of some sort to replace that old analog card

[01:39:23] red_: just outputs from a device
[01:39:34] wagnerrp: but what device?
[01:39:46] red_: kramer
[01:40:36] red_: currently the analogue card works as needed
[01:40:39] wagnerrp: i don't know what that means
[01:41:45] red_: a matrix
[01:42:00] red_: takes inputs distributes to outputs
[01:42:28] red_: for this part a dvb card is overkill since the analogue one does what is required
[01:42:30] wagnerrp: so you're not trying to capture TV. you're just trying to view the output of some A/V matrix switch?
[01:42:36] red_: yep
[01:42:44] wagnerrp: then you probably shouldn't be using mythtv
[01:43:04] wagnerrp: mythtv is not designed to be used on "single channel" systems
[01:43:31] red_: i see
[01:43:52] red_: it's mainly for the scheduling and frontend rather than the backend
[01:44:01] wagnerrp: what is?
[01:44:08] red_: using myth for this
[01:44:35] wagnerrp: for your purposes, there is no scheduling, as mythtv has no ability to change the channel to capture the channel in question
[01:46:17] red_: i see what you are saying

[04:03:45] tgm4883: I think I found a bug in the Frontend services API in 0.26. If the frontend is in the "Watch Videos" screen and do a PlayRecording, it switches to "Watch Recordings", and queues up the recording but doesn't play it. If I then send a second PlayRecording for a different recording, it will queue it behind the first one and play the first recording. If I then exit that recording, it will play the second queued recording.
[04:04:08] tgm4883: Is this something other people have been seeing as well/a known issue?
[04:08:01] tgm4883: It doesn't appear to be putting the recording into a playlist, and if I use the remote to go to the second recording the first queued one is never played, so I'm unsure what to do from here

[20:37:55] sphery: but that was all because of the death of tv_grab_na and the introduction of DataDirect Labs

[20:41:45] sphery: I'm guessing the answer is also the explanation of how they squared proto version changes with unstable/development--the changes were so big that they basically just snapshotted unstable/development and released it as 0.20.1

[21:29:35] messerting: sphery: thank – yes, infrared :)
[21:30:00] messerting: and, yes I do have both PCI and USB based DVB-C tuners. Very unreliable the USB one...
[21:31:35] messerting: and2: I did some more searching on my current USB infrared (iguanaworks) and it turns out (I hope!) that it is not broken after all, but the device moved from /dev/iguanaIR/0 to /var/run/iguanaIR/0
[21:31:36] messerting: haha!

[23:46:24] Twiggy2cents: sphery, I have 3 usb tuners. They can be finnicky if i unplug them and replug them but other than that not really any issue
[23:47:00] wagnerrp: things would be a lot more stable had you used tuners with a proper hardware interconnect
[23:47:23] Twiggy2cents: Heh tell me about it
[23:48:19] Twiggy2cents: I had one in the beginning and it worked fine, so I got another one. When I got the third, I only got it because it was substantially cheaper than any used PCI card I could find.
[23:48:54] Twiggy2cents: Having three is when I started having any issues with them. But it will record three shows at once so it must not be killing the usb at all
[23:49:13] sphery: wagnerrp: did you see my question, earlier, about web site privs and the HOWTO?
[23:49:36] wagnerrp: nope, been busy the last several days
[23:49:41] wagnerrp: not paying much attention
[23:49:49] ** wagnerrp checks the scrollback **
[23:49:55] sphery: So, as you may have noticed, I'm a little bit late getting the HOWTO switched over to the wiki version
[23:50:27] Twiggy2cents: Wish I had known about the HDHR, that would of been everything I wanted and cheaper than buying the two other usb tuners when I wanted to upgrade
[23:50:44] sphery: I tried doing the PDF creator on the wiki, and it failed for all but the smallest (read, "one line") pages, and I remembered your saying something about that (maybe memory related)... Then after I asked you about it, the creator worked fine.
[23:50:49] wagnerrp: actually, i hadn't
[23:50:59] wagnerrp: since you're an admin, you're auto-patrolled
[23:51:21] sphery: well, I mean that we still have the 0.24 version on www...
[23:51:55] sphery: Anyway, I can now (could?) create books (at least when it decides to work), so I can create the PDF we need for www
[23:52:29] sphery: But, in http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythTV-HOWTO#How_t . . . his_document , we say, "This document is available as a single-page HTML document at..."
[23:53:28] sphery: currently it's one page on the wiki, so that doesn't make a lot of sense, but I was wondering if you think we should rephrase that to, "available for downloading" or "available for offline reading" at and then post a copy of the HTML from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki?title=MythTV-HOWTO&printable=yes to www for download
[23:53:54] sphery: and once we figure out an answer to that, I just need to find someone with privs on www to update it--thought you might have them...
[23:54:32] sphery: or, we could just remove the reference to the single-page/downloadable/offline HTML
[23:54:45] wagnerrp: i've always had problems with the wiki creator
[23:55:14] sphery: yeah, it seems it's semi-stable... I'm not sure what kicked it into gear this morning (was failing yesterday), but I'm not complaining
[23:55:15] wagnerrp: IIRC, kormoc told me what my problem was a year or so ago, but i've not had a reason to use it to remember what that was
[23:55:25] wagnerrp: he would be better to ask questions
[23:55:33] sphery: ok, will ask him about that

[23:55:45] wagnerrp: i do have full access to the server if you need something changed
[23:56:16] sphery: right now, though, my main concern is the "single page" comment and how to get the www site updated
[23:56:20] sphery: thoughts?
[23:56:28] wagnerrp: what's the link to the incorrect page?
[23:56:55] wagnerrp: you've just listed wiki pages
[23:57:25] sphery: I need to update http://www.mythtv.org/docs/ to point/redirect to http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythTV-HOWTO (I don't think it's worth posting a second copy to www--even with skinning/theming)
[23:57:46] sphery: and http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-1.html#ss1.4 currently points to http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-singlehtml.html
[23:57:58] kormoc (kormoc!~kormoc@mythtv/developer/kormoc) has quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
[23:58:02] sphery: and I definitely need to replace http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.pdf with the PDF I create from the wiki page
[23:58:13] wagnerrp: isn't docs auto-generated from the source tree?
[23:58:25] sphery: not anymore... there's no docs in the source tree

[23:58:50] kormoc: Did my lines go though?
[23:58:53] sphery: the thought was we'd move it to wiki, where more people could contribute (via talk pages and, eventually, getting some group of "approved" editors)
[23:58:58] wagnerrp: nope
[23:59:09] wagnerrp: all we saw was a ping timeout
[23:59:24] kormoc: kormoc: it's likely the third party service we use to do the generation
[23:59:24] kormoc: kormoc: we just have to install and setup a package and it'll generate locally
[23:59:34] sphery: so I've removed the docs from source--because people were randomly updating one or the other, and I was sick of porting changes between the 2 :)
[23:59:57] wagnerrp: oh, right... i think my problems were caused by some javascript blocker
