[20:47:20] lukeer: But then it won't get the correct time to boot for the next recording, I read forgetting where exactly.

[21:10:27] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: so if you started your recording at 15:55, it would stop at 16:00 – or if you started it at 16:01, it would stop at 16:30...

[21:20:17] J-e-f-f-A: Might also be the DVD rips I did to ISOs without menus... that confuses even the 0.25-fixes frontend...
[21:20:37] wagnerrp: yeah, PS3 won't touch ISOs

[21:21:33] J-e-f-f-A: strange thing is that they don't play on a remote 0.25-fixes frontend, but play on the 0.25-fixes backend... so must either be a storage groups thing, or ??? I dunno... haven't spent much time on it.
[21:21:51] wagnerrp: perhaps they're encrypted?
[21:21:59] J-e-f-f-A: nah, ripped with K9copy.
[21:22:08] wagnerrp: that's the only thing that would make an iso work in one place but not another
[21:22:13] J-e-f-f-A: But if they have menus, they play fine on a remote frontend.
[21:22:30] J-e-f-f-A: Only if I try to play a movie that I've stripped the menus from, but kept it in ISO format.
[21:22:55] J-e-f-f-A: They *used* to work in 0.24, so maybe 0.25 is more 'strict' about the DVD format structure?
[21:23:48] J-e-f-f-A: It would *seem* that playing an ISO that has no menus on a remote frontend doesn't work on 0.25-fixes, but does *locally* on the backend.
[21:27:35] slickrick: J-e-f-f-A: I am recording using mythtv itself. Is there anyway to override the half hour default? I am not sure how much is on the tapes, so this allows me to watch it while it records and stop when needed.
[21:27:37] wagnerrp: shouldn't matter
[21:27:48] Korny: Why not just rip to mkv and keep titles
[21:27:55] wagnerrp: slickrick: half hour default?
[21:28:00] Korny: instead of ISO without menu
[21:28:09] slickrick: J-e-f-f-A: I was actually just about the upgrade to 0.26 when I saw your response ....

[21:28:23] Korny: err keep chapters
[21:28:24] J-e-f-f-A: Actually, checking a few dvds I ripped recently without menus – they don't work on the backend either... Log shows "decoding error / eno: Broken pipe (32), then many Waited xxxms for video buffers..." then it falls back to the menu after 4.5 secs.
[21:28:56] slickrick: wagnerrp: <J-e-f-f-A> slickrick: Are you recording with MythTV? IIRC, if you're recording with Myth and no guide data, it's going to stop @ :00 and :30 as it 'defaults' to 1/2 hour program slots...
[21:29:08] wagnerrp: Korny: why not keep the menus, bonus features, the whole lot?
[21:29:28] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: yeah, I'd say record outside of mythtv using "cat /dev/video# >/my/file/name.mpg", then press ctrl-c to stop, and put it in your MythTV Videos path. (or record directly to there)
[21:29:36] wagnerrp: if you're ripping to a 4–5GB mkv, whats another GB or so for the full ISO?
[21:30:21] slickrick: J-e-f-f-A: damn, I really liked being able to check in on the recording from mythfrontend to see what it was looking like.
[21:30:34] J-e-f-f-A: re: DVD rips – I could care less about the extra features, so I have always ripped them without menus. But it seems [somewhat] recent changes to the DVD playback code doesn't like an ISO without a menu...
[21:31:01] Korny: wagnerrp, this is true
[21:31:13] Korny: but a dvd quality mkv wouldn't be 4–5gb
[21:31:17] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: I *think* you could always fire up another terminal and play back the in-progres recording – something like "mplayer /path/to/my/recording.mpg" ...
[21:31:25] wagnerrp: of course it would

[21:31:57] wagnerrp: but you're only talking about a couple hundred MB difference
[21:32:09] Korny: If you're encoding using x264
[21:32:12] J-e-f-f-A: Heh, All of my DVD rips are non-compressed, so they take anywhere from 4GB to 8GB... ;-)
[21:32:17] Korny: let me clarify

[21:32:23] Korny: Yeah I know I misspoke
[21:32:40] Korny: Just woke up
[21:32:45] slickrick: J-e-f-f-A: So probably going to 0.26 will make no difference then?

[21:34:37] slickrick: J-e-f-f-A: Okay, so last question before I take your advice and just cat to a file .... can the defaults be changed? I looked around but I'm not seeing an obvious setting which pertains to this.

[21:35:18] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: Which recorder ? PVR-500?  – if so, IIRC, it's v4l2-ctl
[21:36:17] slickrick: Yes, PVR 500. Seems sort of odd it wouldn't just work like this when listings grabber is set to no grabber.

[21:36:52] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: Yes, but Myth's behavior if it has no guide data is to split everyting at :00 and :30
[21:37:10] J-e-f-f-A: So, since you have no grabber, you have no guide data, so it's behaving exactly like it's designed to.
[21:37:29] slickrick: Works as designed I guess.
[21:37:42] wagnerrp: it has to cut at some point
[21:37:43] J-e-f-f-A: slickrick: MythTV is not designed to be an 'archiving of old videos' solution, it's designed to be PVR with fixed schedules. ^ exactly.
[21:37:56] wagnerrp: 30min is as good a default as anything else
[21:38:22] J-e-f-f-A: Now you *may* be able to trick it by 'extending' the in-progress recording's time – but to be honest, you'll have more 'control' doing the cat . ;-)
[21:38:40] slickrick: Oh I understand that, was just thinking I could use it as a way to suck in some home movies on VHS. Before the 30 minute cut off, it was working really well.
[21:38:52] wagnerrp: easier to just use 'cat'
