[16:54:24] antgel_: tonsofpcs: could be. gone from debian squeeze to wheezy. much rather debug that than a backend crashing. i've never had much luck with myth packages
[16:57:07] wagnerrp: if the device nodes are there, your kernel modules are (probably) fine
[16:57:15] wagnerrp: sounds more like it's just permissions issues
[16:59:42] antgel_: wagnerrp: bang on. i have /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 – 660 – root:video. i guess i have to add my mythtv user to the video group
[16:59:58] wagnerrp: that's often done automatically by packages
[17:00:14] wagnerrp: i guess the debian packages aren't that complex

[17:01:01] tonsofpcs: wagnerrp: any idea about recordings that show up as nothing? thoughts on things to check?

[17:01:29] wagnerrp: it's unlikely those packages would have removed the mythtv user from the video group when you uninstalled them
[17:01:35] wagnerrp: oh
[17:02:23] antgel_: so i'm on the home straight. need to get used to this mythlogserver. aiui it is meant to log to syslog, but syslog is quiet on the subject
[17:03:15] antgel_: ah, it runs with --loglevel info. i'll change that to debug and see if that helps
[17:03:50] wagnerrp: you _can_ log to syslog, you don't have to
[17:04:05] wagnerrp: it's actually easier from a debugging standpoint to use --logpath rather than --syslog
[17:04:19] wagnerrp: with --logpath, each application instance gets its own new file
[17:04:29] wagnerrp: so there's no difficulty from overlapping logs
[17:05:30] antgel_: wagnerrp: to be honest i'm having problems finding the docs for the new logging framework. i can't even see how mythlogserver starts. what's the simple way to get all logs in /var/log/mythtv as i used to have?
[17:05:39] antgel_: (/var/log/mythtv/*.log)
[17:06:06] wagnerrp: mythtv starts it automatically
[17:06:10] wagnerrp: you do not need to start it

[18:58:58] tonsofpcs: and the files don't exist in /var/lib/mythtv/recordings
[19:03:41] sphery: tonsofpcs: shown as B means there's no file

[19:04:14] tonsofpcs: right
[19:04:30] sphery: as in it's not 1.5GB, it's not 650MB, it's not 999kB, so it must be some number of bytes, so I'll use the abbreviation B
[19:04:43] tonsofpcs: also, I'm seeing that the recording of BlueBloods lastt night has a "Started recording" line in the log, these that don't exist don't have that line...
[19:04:55] sphery: if there's no file, mythtv got nothing from your tuner to write for that file

[21:56:44] justinh: whew. dkim wasn't as hard to setup as I thought
[21:57:03] justinh: I'm only bothered about signing outgoing emails with it
[21:59:10] AndyCap: justinh: heh, it's one thing to have a working mailserver, another entirely to not have hotmail, yahoo and gmail throw it away
[21:59:49] AndyCap: justinh: not to mention when you send mail to retarded monkeys who thinks the report as spam button means I don't want to pay this bill or whatever

[22:02:23] justinh: yeah well...
[22:03:28] justinh: gmail seems to be better about neutral auth stuff. I just wish hotmail, outlook, aol & yahoo would die & go to hell
[22:04:14] justinh: also, better spam than not delivered at all ;-)
[22:06:50] AndyCap: justinh: the problem is that they will drag your mailservers name into the mud when they do that
[22:20:48] justinh: yeah but there's not much can be done when folk do that sort of stunt

[23:19:44] monkpet69: I want to go the Frys and pickup a tiny quiet machine to run mythfrontend on, any recommendations?
[23:20:08] wagnerrp: mini-itx board, intel chip, intel graphics
[23:21:45] monkpet69: wagnerrp: I see a bunch of shuttles on their website.
[23:22:23] wagnerrp: mine is basically silent... except for the power supply
[23:22:30] wagnerrp: i need to figure out how to tone that power supply down
[23:23:19] monkpet69: I also see zotac.
[23:23:26] jst_: monkpet69: do they have acer revos?
[23:23:56] wagnerrp: those are only worth considering if you don't mind restricting yourself to hardware decoding
[23:24:29] jst_: my acer revo has an atom processor and nvidia ion chipset. i love it.
[23:27:42] monkpet69: what about digital audio out and all that stuff, is it typical these days?
[23:27:52] monkpet69: My last computer I bought was 5 years back.
[23:28:04] wagnerrp: running LPCM over HDMI on mine

[23:29:31] monkpet69: tomorrow..
[23:29:36] wagnerrp: ?
[23:29:46] monkpet69: Superbowl
[23:29:56] wagnerrp: harbowl?
[23:29:58] monkpet69: 49ers vs Ravens American football.
[23:30:08] wagnerrp: i don't get it...
[23:30:10] monkpet69: the couch from each team are brothers!
[23:30:14] monkpet69: coach.
[23:30:18] wagnerrp: something to do with their shared last name?
[23:30:25] wagnerrp: i don't recall what that is
[23:30:26] monkpet69: Jim & John Harbaugh
[23:30:29] wagnerrp: ah
[23:33:39] monkpet69: I was pretty sastified with my mac mini frontend running ubuntu probably a few years old now (intel mac mini). However, the macs are overpriced for just running a myth frontend.
[23:36:22] monkpet69: oh yeah, the raspberrypi is garbage, worthless.

[23:36:44] monkpet69: can't go anything on it, xbmc is worthless on it.
[23:37:23] monkpet69: can't do anything on it, I meant.
[23:38:09] jst_: wow, didn't realize mac minis were $600 and up
[23:38:14] jst_: apple is such a ridiculous company
[23:38:23] monkpet69: yup, apple-tax
[23:44:09] monkpet69: jst_: your acer revo does HD playback?
[23:50:15] wagnerrp: jst_: don't compare a mac mini to a PC, because it's not... compare it to a comparable laptop
[23:50:44] wagnerrp: because that's what it is, a laptop with all low-power mobile parts, lacking a monitor
