[08:03:41] [R]: when its ready

[08:11:04] [R]: what?
[08:11:44] MMlosh: [R], I am removing one mythtv installation

[08:14:04] [R]: well there is mythlink
[08:14:07] [R]: but you did say convert

[08:14:27] MMlosh: I'll convert them with ffmpeg/avconv
[08:14:36] MMlosh: All I need is renaming the files to something sane
[08:15:23] [R]: or

[08:19:47] MMlosh: [R], where? Search found only ipod_export and dpd_export
[08:19:58] [R]: MMlosh: dunno
[08:20:18] [R]: mythacrhive maybe
[08:21:19] MMlosh: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki?title=Special%3ASe . . . rt&go=Go even seach on the wiki results in nothing useful

[12:22:47] bennylb0: Just installed Myhbuntu 12.04 with DTV2000DS and lspci or lusb don't list the device. What steps can I take to get the kernel to recognise it?
[12:31:44] TauricV (TauricV!~neil@202.7.242.170.static.rev.eftel.com) has left #mythtv-users ()
[12:33:00] Twiggy2cents: bennylb0, unplug it and replug it then check dmesg and see what it says
[12:34:16] Twiggy2cents: nvm mind on the unplug, I didnt notice it is pci
[12:35:05] Twiggy2cents: scan dmesg for it, or try dmesg | grep dvb or something like that, you might need different terms maybe V4L
[12:37:10] lautriv: bennylb0, lspci should see something, even if it loads no drivers. otherwise it is not/bad plugged or defect.
[12:38:16] Twiggy2cents: lautriv, I dont think it does unless the kernel can recognize it. I had a cheapo external hdd that didnt show up in lsusb and the kernel complained that it had no clue what it was so it said it was a generic usb device
[12:39:22] stuartm: if lscpi doesn't list it, then it's usually broken hardware
[12:39:52] lautriv: Twiggy2cents, it has to see at least busid:vendor:subdevice regardless of it's functionality, USB is not the same.
[12:40:02] Twiggy2cents: gotcha
[12:40:29] stuartm: lscpi lists all devices connected to the PCI bus whether or not drivers are available
[12:43:54] stuartm: bennylb0: if you've changed the bios config it's possible that you've disabled some/all PCI slots or something, but if you did that then you'd have known you were doing it, so DoA hardware or improperly seated card are the most likely scenarios
[12:49:53] stuartm: DoA hardware is a lot more common than you might think, I've had a couple of PCI cards which were broken out of the box, one was a tuner card – returned it and the replacement worked just fine

[15:12:47] devinheitmueller: The pvr500 *must* be used with the ivtv driver, as the 500 driver doesn't actually support uncompressed video delivery.
[15:12:52] tgm4883`: EvilGuru, it has a maintainer now

[15:16:19] devinheitmueller: Yeah, that's a little misleading. I blame MythTV for have separate categories for "ivtv" versus "v4l" in the input type selection. In actuality they are both "v4l2", and the application should just query whether the device supports MPEG2 delivery.
[15:16:41] devinheitmueller: Most of that is historical though, which is why it's pretty understandable.

[15:20:10] devinheitmueller: (for example, messages from the tuner chip won't show up with a grep for ivtv)

[18:15:25] sickan: uh, no, i dont know wut freq. one special channel has and most of the channels has no show on it
[18:15:48] sickan: ill take forever to go through them all

[18:17:26] sickan: eg. channel 22 show me one freq. and i dont know if that channel has any broadcasting on it, thus forcing me to test lots of them
[18:17:27] devinheitmueller: If you set the channel table argument, you just specify the channel number, not the frequency.
[18:17:54] sickan: yeah but i dont know what channel has a show on it or just static
[18:18:17] devinheitmueller: If you cannot test without the PVR-500, how do you know that your problem isn't that you're not really getting channels at all?
[18:18:44] devinheitmueller: I would suggest trying it in Windows to understand which channels you can receive, or just connect the coax feed to a real television.
[18:19:01] sickan: the machine used to have winblows on it and using GBPVR and that worked
[18:19:02] devinheitmueller: In short, we have no idea if your incoming feed is working at all.
[18:19:10] wagnerrp: is there any "signal level" coming off analog tuners?
[18:19:36] wagnerrp: i assume there has to be for analog scanning to function
[18:19:38] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: depends on the tuner. My experience with the older ivtv based cards is pretty minimal.
[18:19:51] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: the analog scanner typically works off the presence of signal lock, not signal level.
[18:20:03] sickan: i used just cat /dev/tuner0 to the screen and it showed me something but i dont know it if was just static
[18:20:29] wagnerrp: well either... just some simple script that loops through the channels and tests for lock
[18:20:33] devinheitmueller: You need to redirect the output to a file, and then play back the file in VLC or mplayer.

[18:21:38] sickan: ill be back

[18:21:55] wagnerrp: im not certain off hand which is which
[18:22:13] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: If I recall, it exposes the HM12 format via video32, but it's not in actual videobuf frames, and hence cannot be played in tvtime.

[18:23:06] devinheitmueller: You cannot play that in tvtime.
[18:23:34] devinheitmueller: First because it's using a colorspace tvtime doesn't support (HM12), and second because tvtime only supports mmap'd v4l2 buffer mode (doesn't support stream mode)
[18:23:34] wagnerrp: the audio is on video24?
[18:23:41] devinheitmueller: Yes.
[18:23:44] devinheitmueller: It's PCM audio.
[18:24:03] devinheitmueller: Newer variants of such drivers (like cx18) still have video24, but also expose raw audio via ALSA.
[18:24:53] wagnerrp: years back, there was some script that would loop through all potential channels, and grab a screenshot using mplayer
[18:25:03] wagnerrp: for the purposes of quickly identifying channels
[18:25:45] wagnerrp: although now that i think about it, that was probably for digital, since there would have been little reason to try to identify analog channels
