[00:14:18] johnsu01: after a dist-upgrade on my debian testing myth machine, my colors are all screwed up
[00:14:58] johnsu01: I doubt this is myth's fault (is it?) but also have no idea where to start looking
[00:15:21] johnsu01: it's true for both recorded TV and videos
[00:17:18] johnsu01: checking how things are outside of myth..

[00:34:30] sphery: johnsu01: you need to upgrade to current 0.25-fixes... you're using an early revision with a bug for Intel and AMD video users
[00:35:20] sphery: johnsu01: otherwise, if you can't get a newer revision, use the MENU to adjust the Picture Controls (specifically Hue) under Video (assuming you're using AMD... if Intel, you may have to adjust the other values, too)
[00:35:37] johnsu01: huh, okay, let me see about the newer version..

[00:37:37] davy: the "data directory is not writable by apache. Please check permissions." refers to the /var/www/html/mythweb/data directory and not the recordings directory?
[00:38:58] johnsu01: sphery: is this also related to resolution / screen size being screwed up?
[00:41:35] sphery: johnsu01: no, color would be unrelated to resolution/screen size stuff
[00:41:44] sphery: davy: yes
[00:42:06] johnsu01: sphery: k, just asking because I had to recalibrate the screen size after the upgrade also
[00:42:15] sphery: davy: generally just: sudo rm -r /var/www/html/mythweb/data
[00:42:42] davy: i'll try that. since those subdirectories are already empty

[00:47:35] wagnerrp: do we even still use that directory?
[00:47:49] wagnerrp: that used to be where recordings would get linked in, before storage groups

[01:01:38] johnsu01: sphery: weird that the color adjustment meter says "adjust playback"
[01:04:25] johnsu01: I think I got an acceptable picture back though, so thanks
[01:11:40] sphery: johnsu01: yeah, should be either 50 (likely) or 0 for hue that you need
[01:11:57] sphery: I've heard that the dialog is broken (on some themes?) and doesn't show which you're adjusting
[01:12:02] johnsu01: I don't have a hue setting by that name
[01:12:09] johnsu01: color, brightness, contrast
[01:12:13] sphery: color, then
[01:12:16] johnsu01: and yeah, it doesn't show which one is being adjusted
[01:12:31] sphery: most likely all are 50 except the one you need to change to 50 :)
[01:14:18] sphery: davy: so the rm didn't work? if that's the case, you may have to manually create it with proper perms... something like: sudo install -d -m775 -o mythtv -g httpd /var/www/html/mythweb/data
[01:14:45] sphery: or maybe httpd for owner, too (or whatever your apache user runs as)
[01:14:54] davy: rm left me with this: "Warning at /var/www/html/includes/data_dir.php, line 13:
[01:14:54] davy: !!NoTrans: mkdir(): Permission denied!!"
[01:15:14] sphery: ah, then http user has no permissions in /var/www/html/mythweb , so can't create data
[01:15:22] sphery: just do the install line, above, and it should work
[01:15:29] sphery: but fix the owner and group names
[01:15:53] ** sphery goes to make a late dinner **
[01:18:37] johnsu01: sphery: I had to adjust all of them quite a bit
[01:21:46] sphery: johnsu01: Intel video card?
[01:22:10] sphery: if so, you really need to upgrade, then it will "fix" it properly (by turning off the picture controls since they're broken on Intel video/drivers)
[01:22:19] davy: thanks for your help. should i be able to go to localhost/mythweb/data?
[01:22:26] davy: i get a 403 forbidden currently
[01:22:37] sphery: no, it's not part of the web app
[01:22:40] sphery: just a directory used by it
[01:23:31] johnsu01: sphery: yeah, intel — I'll upgrade, just trying to get it good enough to watch hockey right now :)
[01:25:04] sphery: yeah, should be able to get it ok enough for short term

[01:58:06] DeviceZer0: both are running 0.24 here but one may be a older commit
[01:58:19] wagnerrp: but, this isnt mythtv
[01:58:22] wagnerrp: so it doesnt matter

[01:59:01] DeviceZer0: ah well crap....that was my hail mary lol
[01:59:17] wagnerrp: theres all sorts of GTK crap, and zenity is Gnome3
[01:59:22] wagnerrp: thats not mythtv
[01:59:54] DeviceZer0: hmm I see.
[02:00:04] wagnerrp: zenity is crashing, not mythtv
[02:00:05] DeviceZer0: wonder if my backend is just getting too old now lol
[02:00:32] wagnerrp: not too old, not anything... its not mythtv
[02:00:52] DeviceZer0: by backend I meant the whole os the backend is running on
[02:01:10] DeviceZer0: hmm yea..its not even that old...thought it was running a much older version.
[02:03:26] DeviceZer0: while this may not be myth related you guys usually have a good idea on this stuff. When I ssh into a box and run a graphical app on the remote host and it runs on my local screen....is the entire thing running on the remote host and just being displayed locally? Like...from that error...does it mean there is a issue on the remote server or locally?
[02:03:56] wagnerrp: the application is running on the remote system, displaying on the local X server
[02:04:08] wagnerrp: it could be the application itself screwing up
[02:04:21] wagnerrp: it could be the application having trouble interfacing with the X server
[02:04:35] wagnerrp: what hardware is your X server running on?

[02:05:08] wagnerrp: with nvidia drivers?
[02:05:11] DeviceZer0: yea
[02:05:20] DeviceZer0: the backend machine is headless
[02:05:39] DeviceZer0: backend is running ubuntu 11.10 and my desktop is running f17
[02:06:00] DeviceZer0: wondering if its some weird change between xorg in the two versions.
[02:06:27] wagnerrp: gnome 3, and possibly zenity, require hardware acceleration
[02:06:36] wagnerrp: could be some funky interaction that it doesnt like running remotely
[02:06:43] DeviceZer0: ah yea.
[02:06:45] wagnerrp: try running mythtv-setup.real
[02:06:48] DeviceZer0: thats what I'm wondering
[02:07:10] DeviceZer0: same error
[02:07:27] DeviceZer0: its been a long time since I've run mythtv-setup...last time I did both machine where running ubuntu
[02:07:41] mycosys (mycosys!~mycosys@unaffiliated/mycosys) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:08:13] DeviceZer0: just poking around and running the hdhomerun_gui on the remote box works fine...but I suppose thats because its not using zenity
[02:08:40] wagnerrp: zenity is just a gnome3 application to display GUI dialogs from the command line
[02:09:40] DeviceZer0: ah...and mythtv-setup has been using zenity for a while? Or is it using something else that gnome3 is interpreting to using zenity?
[02:10:02] wagnerrp: no, mythtv-setup just uses mythtv-setup
[02:10:11] DeviceZer0: I see
[02:10:16] wagnerrp: except on mythbuntu, mythtv-setup is not mythtv-setup
[02:10:30] wagnerrp: its a wrapper script, which apparently uses zenity for something
[02:11:05] DeviceZer0: I'm not using mythbuntu...but I think I am using its repos for mythtv
[02:11:17] DeviceZer0: so I guess thats doing something funky
[02:13:26] DeviceZer0: well I guess I dont need to get into mythtv-setup that bad...just wanted to pop in and check some settings for my hdhr prime....everything is working fine. Suppose I need to decide if I should upgrade my backend server in the next couple weeks/months.
[02:13:31] DeviceZer0: thanks for the help wagnerrp :)
[02:14:21] wagnerrp: use mythtv-setup.real
[02:14:44] DeviceZer0: it still gave the same error
[02:15:30] davy: anybody seen an error like this for mythweb? "PHP Warning: Unknown: function '0' not found or invalid function name in Unknown on line 0

[19:03:33] StevenR: yes
[19:04:07] StevenR: Glenuk: Hauppage make a USB stick that will do that just fine, there's also a dual input tuner (so you can record/watch two multiplexes at once)

[19:04:58] Glenuk: my TV is an old one :)

[19:08:47] wagnerrp: it can do it, but if thats what youre looking for, youre likely better off just using the tv directly
[19:08:59] Glenuk: ok
[19:09:08] Glenuk: what about view files from a server
[19:09:12] Glenuk: like .avi
[19:09:26] wagnerrp: you can use the video library for that

[20:54:53] lucas^: a few questions about MythVideo – can episode / season screenshots be embedded in files, or in the database as binary data, or do they have to appear as separate files?
[20:55:30] lucas^: also, is there any need for building a seek table for MPEG-4 H.264 video? doesn't seem like MythVideo actually uses it
[20:55:59] wagnerrp: separate files, stored in their respective artwork storage group directories
[20:56:20] wagnerrp: the video library uses the internal player, and the internal player can use seek tables
[20:56:32] wagnerrp: however seek tables are really only designed for use with mpeg2 video
[20:56:40] wagnerrp: i dont believe they do anything for h264 video

[22:47:28] lapion: I used to get aborts every time I changed channels, eventually this became less frequent, only to become the default again recently.. that is until I uninstalled x- and gnome-screensaver, I am currently only using power-saving..
[22:49:32] lapion: justinh, install opera-mobile ( as opposed to opera mini ) and you will have a full fletched browser

[23:12:43] justinh: I only ever use my phone as a last resort
[23:12:53] justinh: and when I do, I don't want the webpages to break
[23:13:03] justinh: which they invariably do
[23:13:43] justinh: I've fixed mythweb now, so it works properly whichever browser I'm in the mood for
[23:14:06] justinh: opera seems to load pages faster but it takes longer to start up. net effect = the same
[23:15:37] justinh: lapion: you want pretty, pay up in memory
[23:15:54] justinh: you want less memory footprint, use perl & ncurses junk :-P
[23:16:44] justinh: also, running mythfrontend at a higher res than necessary can eat memory needlessly
[23:17:03] wagnerrp: weee... kernel panic
[23:17:24] justinh: also, RAM has never been cheaper & will continue to get cheaper. So quit your whining :P
[23:17:57] wagnerrp: my shoes need shining
[23:19:20] justinh: er I mean *current* ram. if you want DDR2 or lower, er... LOL
[23:20:01] lapion: justinh, Blootube-ng 2.3 mythfrontend eats up 1.5G virtual and 1.1 Resident memory.. and that's not even that fancy

[23:22:57] lapion: .. well I have a decent system for a dvr.. ( half way decent...)
[23:23:08] justinh: reminds me, I need to go back to xmltv
[23:23:20] justinh: freeview's categories are seriously screwed up
[23:23:39] justinh: I do a lot of my scheduling by looking at those
[23:24:48] lapion: well my xmltv schedules are screwed up as well.. at least the comedy central and disney channel ones are..
[23:25:03] lapion: allmost no show info
[23:31:00] justinh: I mean I was using EIT
[23:31:30] lapion: eit..
[23:31:39] justinh: it was an experiment. If myth adjusted show start/end times automatically I'd stick with EIT
[23:31:58] lapion: no eit available in the netherlands
