[00:03:59] EnderTheThird: wagnerrp: you're a gentleman and a scholar.  :-)
[00:05:00] EnderTheThird: didn't think to retry the repo until i did verbose on mythfilldatabase. Sometimes I forget that it gives you so much more information than it shows in the command line with just the command.  :-/
[00:05:20] wagnerrp: no idea how they could have gotten out of sync
[00:05:26] wagnerrp: package manager barfed?
[00:05:49] UForgotten: the mythbuntu package manager is definitely flakey. but it could just be ubuntu :)
[00:05:51] EnderTheThird: That or the backend didn't update since it was running the whole time.
[00:06:27] EnderTheThird: but I'd think mythfilldatabase and all that is packaged with the mythtv-backend stuff?
[00:06:29] cocoa117 (cocoa117!~cocoa117@188-222-31-239.zone13.bethere.co.uk) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:06:32] wagnerrp: doesnt work that way
[00:06:41] EnderTheThird: hmmm, weird
[00:06:43] wagnerrp: you can update files out from underneath running programs without any problem
[00:06:59] wagnerrp: the program continues running with whatever copy it had stored in memory
[00:07:11] cocoa117 (cocoa117!~cocoa117@188-222-31-239.zone13.bethere.co.uk) has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[00:08:14] kormoc (kormoc!~kormoc@mythtv/developer/kormoc) has quit (Quit: kormoc)
[00:08:22] EnderTheThird: Right. Funky how it did that. I wonder if my main server here was doing the same, because mythfilldatabase seemed to be doing the same thing on my machine, but I haven't checked the log
[00:08:39] UForgotten: mythfilldatabase takes 30 minutes for each day
[00:08:46] UForgotten: seems slow
[00:09:02] UForgotten: if I want to do a full two week update it takes 7 hours
[00:09:59] EnderTheThird: Really? I don't remember it ever taking that long before I had it run automatically in the background each night.
[00:10:29] UForgotten: this is on mythbuntu 64-bit, intel core2duo T7250 @ 2 ghz, 4 gb of ram, brand new 7200 rpm sata drive.
[00:10:48] dkeith (dkeith!~dkeith@pool-98-118-119-211.bstnma.fios.verizon.net) has quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[00:12:01] EnderTheThird: wagnerrp: or maybe it's not working. Mythweb isn't showing listings past today. Maybe I'll let it run for an hour to see if it's just going slow on her machine
[00:12:29] rmsbl (rmsbl!~jst@c-76-100-79-111.hsd1.md.comcast.net) has quit (Quit: Lost terminal)
[00:12:58] UForgotten: EnderTheThird: maybe its just dog slow in 0.25 now? I dont have anything to compare it to. try running it from the command line and you can see how bloody slow it really is
[00:14:05] EnderTheThird: In command line, it stalls just saying "DataDirect: sourced 1 has lineup type: LocalBroadcast"
[00:14:38] EnderTheThird: no new updates to terminal after that. Unless mythfilldatabase changed the output it shows, because I remember it providing more frequent updates on the screen to show what it was doing.
[00:14:43] NightMonkey (NightMonkey!~NightrMon@pdpc/supporter/professional/nightmonkey) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[00:16:19] wagnerrp: try running with --dd-grab-all
[00:16:22] EnderTheThird: I do see a "content-type missing in HTTP POST, defaulting to application/octet-stream" message in there up a ways too
[00:17:03] EnderTheThird: running now
[00:17:20] UForgotten: EnderTheThird: that's not stalling, its processing, it just takes 30 friggin minutes for one day
[00:18:24] wagnerrp: rather, its inserting into a poorly configured database, on an ill suited filesystem
[00:18:59] EnderTheThird: Could be. I gave her my older Core 2 Duo that's a little underpowered.
[00:19:04] UForgotten: wagnerrp: is there a better way? sqllite on xfs perhaps?
[00:19:12] wagnerrp: the core2 isnt underpowered, its the configuration
[00:19:12] UForgotten: instead of mysql on ext4
[00:19:31] wagnerrp: the stock mysql config overflows on the temp table, causing it to get flushed to disk
[00:19:33] UForgotten: this box is only for this use now. I'd happily nuke it and reinstall something that works
[00:19:54] wagnerrp: at which point Barriers takes over and causes each and every change to go straight to the platter
[00:20:02] wagnerrp: rather than merely temporarily buffering in memory
[00:20:58] tgm4883: wagnerrp, are you talking just tmp_table_size and max_heap_table_size
[00:21:01] wagnerrp: EnderTheThird: any chance you are using an email address as your SD login?
[00:21:14] UForgotten: does it use innodb?
[00:21:17] tgm4883: rhpot1991 is testing with some new settings for those
[00:21:20] wagnerrp: tgm4883: possibly, sphery or kormoc would know better
[00:21:27] EnderTheThird: wagnerrp: I am
[00:21:38] UForgotten: yeah Im curious how what to tune. definitely would be ok with
[00:21:38] UForgotten: ivtv – Linux iTVC15/16 and CX23415/16 Driver, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250/3
[00:21:46] UForgotten: er
[00:21:52] UForgotten: sorry no idea where that came from
[00:22:02] wagnerrp: EnderTheThird: if that is the case, you need to be running a certain newer version of Qt
[00:22:27] wagnerrp: there was an issue with an older version where it was incorrectly parsing that username as we were trying to pass it to SD
[00:22:38] wagnerrp: causing us to send the wrong username to SD to login with
[00:22:40] tgm4883: Contrary to popular belief, I actually DON'T like it when mythbuntu isn't running well for our users
[00:22:47] EnderTheThird: Ahhhh, I see.
[00:22:50] UForgotten: ashlee simpson look/soundalike on the voice. eww.
[00:22:56] UForgotten: not a compliment.
[00:23:06] tgm4883: wagnerrp, there shouldn't be any Ubuntu version that is affected by that
[00:23:28] EnderTheThird: Might explain why it runs OK in background on my machine. I was able to import my old db on mine. Couldn't on hers. How would I get the new version of Qt?
[00:23:31] tgm4883: IIRC it was qt x.x..2, where we went from x.x.1 to x.x.3
[00:23:41] wagnerrp: tgm4883: no one is blaming mythbuntu, terrible mysql configs plague all major distros
[00:23:50] tgm4883: wagnerrp, I meant the qt issue
[00:23:56] wagnerrp: 4.7.2 maybe?
[00:24:02] tgm4883: that sounds rigth
[00:24:09] tgm4883: ubuntu releases skipped that one
[00:24:10] wagnerrp: yeah, its not a particularly new version
[00:24:16] tgm4883: we got lucky there :)
[00:24:32] EnderTheThird: Hmmm, wonder if it didn't install by default in mythbuntu. Know the package name in buntu by chance?
[00:24:47] tgm4883: regarding mysql, if it's an issue with our config, and we can fix it globally, I'd sure like to
[00:25:00] tgm4883: package name of what?
[00:25:48] emmanuel__ (emmanuel__!~emmanuelu@2a01:e35:2e4d:9010:21d:60ff:fe0e:b818) has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[00:25:55] EnderTheThird: the updated qt. according to apt-get all my packages are up to date. So I'm assuming the updated qt you guys are talking about either isn't in the repo or wasn't installed by default
[00:25:55] wagnerrp: tgm4883: well that has been one of the long coming reasons for an embedded mysql datbase
[00:26:05] wagnerrp: embedded mysql means we can enforce good settings
[00:26:22] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, it doesn't affect Ubuntu
[00:26:25] wagnerrp: to be fair, theyre not "bad" settings, per se
[00:26:29] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, what release are you on?
[00:26:34] EnderTheThird: Mythbuntu 12.04
[00:26:38] wagnerrp: they are just extremely lightweight settings
[00:26:50] UForgotten: tgm4883: I'm also on mythbuntu, it takes 30 minutes for one day of mythfilldatabase processing
[00:26:57] wagnerrp: the kind that you might expect a home user to want to use, with some light database use on a home application
[00:27:06] UForgotten: tgm4883: and I'm also not getting any video from my hd pvr in myth :(
[00:27:11] tgm4883: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=qt . . . ;section=all
[00:27:27] tgm4883: UForgotten, yes it does take a really long time for mythfilldatabase
[00:28:06] UForgotten: tgm4883: 7 hours? I've heard people say it takes 20 minutes for the entire run. makes me think they are full of crap or something is very wrong

[00:29:06] UForgotten: tgm4883: I've been watching for someone to suggest a setting to fix it :)
[00:29:33] EnderTheThird: tgm4883: Installing a few of the qt4 packages. Hopefully that'll get me whatever I need, heh.
[00:29:37] wagnerrp: UForgotten: quick solution, remount your drive without barriers
[00:29:38] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, no
[00:29:43] ** tgm4883 sighs **
[00:29:57] wagnerrp: good solution... need to ask someone who knows more about mysql than i
[00:30:00] EnderTheThird:
[00:30:12] tgm4883: although i'm unsure of the ramifications, I've seen people changing to myisam working
[00:30:32] wagnerrp: s/myisam/innodb/
[00:30:44] UForgotten: if its innodb you can tune the crap out of it
[00:30:47] wagnerrp: the issue with innodb is again, the default configs are even worse for innodb than mysql
[00:30:52] wagnerrp: s/mysql/myisam/
[00:31:48] tgm4883: wagnerrp, no, switching to myisam http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11910943&postcount=17
[00:32:09] wagnerrp: the only thing that shouldnt be running myisam are the mythweather tables
[00:32:19] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, you are just going to install random packages in the hopes of it working? if that is the case, please don't come back asking for help
[00:32:23] wagnerrp: everything else should already be myisam
[00:32:47] wagnerrp: and there is not sufficient amount of data in mythweather for any amount of optimization to be worthwhile
[00:33:22] tgm4883: where is that set?
[00:33:34] MilkBoy (MilkBoy!~milkboy@v6.yone.fi) has joined #mythtv-users

[00:34:16] tgm4883: ah ok
[00:36:23] EnderTheThird: tgm4883: wagnerrp said I needed the newest qt4 for the email login to work. I asked if you guys knew which package he meant. I didn't get an answer, so I installed what appeared not to be documentation packages. If you know the package I'd need, I'd appreciate it as I was no happier installing random qt4 packages than you were.

[00:37:22] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, and I said that QT issue does not affect any Ubuntu/Mythbuntu releases
[00:37:39] Tetracomm: Could someone please help me to get the Hauppauge HVR-850 tv tuner working in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS? Here is my lsusb -v and dmesg output: http://pastebin.com/nAUPTxra
[00:38:00] tgm4883: I've based that on the versions of QT available in the different Ubuntu releases and the information that Beirdo provided when debugging that particular issue
[00:38:30] EnderTheThird: tgm4883: Thanks. I'm hoping this thing is just going god awful slow then, seeing as I'm not getting the incompatible mythtv message I got earlier.

[00:38:35] tgm4883: EnderTheThird, that said, if you believe that is the issue, a much easier solution is to login to Schedules Direct and change your login info away from your email
[00:39:18] EnderTheThird: tgm4883: Hey man, I'll try anything
[00:39:21] UForgotten: tgm4883: any thoughts on not being able to get my hd pvr working?

[00:39:54] wagnerrp: no, i didnt say newest... i said newish
[00:39:54] UForgotten: tgm4883: askception occurred
[00:40:16] wagnerrp: apparently 4.7.2, which a modern copy of ubuntu should be beyond
[00:40:31] tgm4883: UForgotten, I don't know, as we've debugged it works outside of MythTV and it seems setup correctly to work inside mythtv then IDK

[00:41:11] tgm4883: UForgotten, I think the issue may lie with the IR channel changing. As all else seems to be similar between us
[00:43:45] UForgotten: tgm4883: the strange part is if I use the mythbuntu infrared setup, it breaks it, not sure what to pick. If I follow the mythtv wiki and manually configure lirc, the channel changing via script works but myth doesnt even appear to call the script or engage the pvr.
[00:44:08] UForgotten: I'm tempted to enable the myth repo and do an update to see if this is something wierd that may have been fixed since the iso was burnt

[00:45:48] sphery: yeah, but why downgrade :)
[00:45:52] Beirdo: true
[00:45:53] EnderTheThird: sphery: thanks. I changed my login with SD. It's going now, but I"m still getting a "content-type missing" error. Wondering if mythbuntu is missing something to handle the info from SD???
[00:45:56] sphery: EnderTheThird: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/515730#515730
[00:46:26] sphery: EnderTheThird: we do all processing inside mythtv, so ubuntu mime configuration won't affect it
[00:46:34] sphery: got logs?

[00:51:10] UForgotten: sphery: not sure how that would have happened. I'm rebooting, btb
[00:51:42] tgm4883: Sphery, can we discuss mysql settings later?
[00:52:09] sphery: tgm4883: if it's about innodb configuration, I'm not a good person for it

[00:52:51] sphery: tgm4883: also, seems ubuntu's are pretty good--though putting data on a file system with barriers enabled tends to mean awful performance for most "casual" users
[00:53:06] sphery: but safety in the event of catastrophic failure
[00:53:08] Beirdo: stupid myisam

[01:02:09] sphery: ok, just making sure
[01:02:52] EnderTheThird: Heh, it appears SD gets rid of your lineups when you change your login ID
[01:03:02] UForgotten: normally I'm good at figuring out obscure hardware/software problems, but I think I'm more frustrated because I spent money on the pvr. I would be much less in a hurry to get it working.
[01:03:08] sphery: EnderTheThird: interesting...
[01:03:10] tgm4883: Shouldnt
[01:03:16] sphery: we might need to look into that
[01:03:17] tgm4883: Mine stayed
[01:03:24] sphery: if you re-create them, does it work?
[01:03:30] MilkBoy (MilkBoy!~milkboy@v6.yone.fi) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[01:03:49] EnderTheThird: heh: "Error:
[01:03:49] EnderTheThird: You are being affected by a random bug under investigation. It may be 60 minutes until your account is ready for use. Sorry, Please try again later."
[01:04:06] EnderTheThird: When I tried to re-add lineup
[01:04:06] UForgotten: lame
[01:04:25] sphery: hehe, yeah, sounds like one of the transient errors that messes up lineups occasionally
[01:04:37] sphery: wait a while, then try going back and check your lineups
[01:04:52] sphery: if they're there, you may want to try "re-add lineups" (or whatever the button is called)
[01:04:55] sphery: if not, recreate
[01:04:57] EnderTheThird: Will do. Explains why it kept showing download errors for mythfilldatabase though, it didn't have my lineups!
[01:05:03] sphery: yeah
[01:05:18] sphery: Beirdo: ^^^ might be broken lineups causing his failure
[01:05:29] UForgotten: EnderTheThird: may be faster to create a new account
[01:05:42] EnderTheThird: UForgotten: but not cheaper  ;-)
[01:05:50] UForgotten: EnderTheThird: its free for a week
[01:05:54] UForgotten: just to get you up and running
[01:05:54] sphery: creating an account may also take an hour or more for lineups to become ready
[01:05:55] zombor (zombor!~zombor_@kohana/developer/zombor) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:05:57] UForgotten: then fix it later :)
[01:06:06] UForgotten: really? mine was instant
[01:06:13] Beirdo: sphery: makes sense to me
[01:06:37] EnderTheThird: Let me add this time. Gotta recheck mythtv-setup to see if it's there.
[01:06:38] sphery: yeah, not sure why/when it takes time, but I've seen it take hours for some users
[01:08:37] zombor (zombor!~zombor_@kohana/developer/zombor) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[01:09:24] EnderTheThird: sphery: Yeah, seems not to be finding my lineup in myth right now.
[01:09:33] EnderTheThird: sphery: guess I need to give it a while
[01:10:15] wagnerrp: well this is interesting... i didnt record bones tonight
[01:11:00] sphery: wagnerrp: mine did
[01:11:10] sphery: 6 comm breaks
[01:11:15] wagnerrp: mythtv thinks i did
[01:11:47] UForgotten: wagnerrp: maybe u need to watch it?
[01:11:52] wagnerrp: it also only thinks there are 247MB in it
[01:12:24] EnderTheThird: wagnerrp: short episode, heh
[01:12:34] wagnerrp: and the quality monitor reported a break from 2012-05–07T20:00:43 to 2012-05–07T20:59:01
[01:12:49] Beirdo: anyways, I'm gonna head home so I can play with mythtv
[01:13:00] wagnerrp: it was great, i got the important beginning and end, and skipped over all the filler
[01:13:01] UForgotten: quality monitor? whats all this advanced stuff geez, and I cant even get my pvr to work :(
[01:13:28] wagnerrp: no errors reported in the logs
[01:13:39] sphery: yellow?
[01:13:56] wagnerrp: yellow?
[01:14:11] wagnerrp: havent actually looked at the UI
[01:14:15] sphery: damage detection stuff
[01:14:22] sphery: though that should show a log message
[01:14:31] wagnerrp: yeah, im looking at it
[01:14:41] wagnerrp: (the logs, not something yellow in the UI)
[01:14:49] wagnerrp: 'less' does not have colored output
[01:16:13] Beirdo: seeya all on the flip side...

[01:32:43] tgm4883: Beirdo, http://place.org/~nop/m/mfdblog-2012-05-07.tar.xz
[01:32:54] tgm4883: There is a README file in there that explains what he did
[01:33:22] UForgotten: dude!
[01:33:29] UForgotten: it was the channel changer.
[01:33:33] UForgotten: moved it into /usr/bun
[01:33:34] tgm4883: I had his gather mythfilldatabase run with -v file, network --loglevel debug, AND a pcap file of it failing.
[01:33:36] UForgotten: er /usr/bin
[01:33:46] UForgotten: and now I can watch live tv.
[01:33:46] tgm4883: UForgotten, where did you have it before?
[01:33:51] UForgotten: /usr/local/bin
[01:33:58] UForgotten: but I had the path fully defined.. strange.
[01:34:05] UForgotten: this time I just put in the name without the path
[01:34:05] tgm4883: yea weird
[01:34:07] UForgotten: and it works
[01:35:31] UForgotten: erm
[01:35:45] UForgotten: its a little jumpy on hd channels. unwatchably so.
[01:36:02] UForgotten: but this is good progress, finally.
[01:36:09] tgm4883: UForgotten, that sounds like a playback issue
[01:37:54] UForgotten: tgm4883: aspect ratio is off, I'll have to poke around and see what tuning Ican do.
[01:38:13] UForgotten: its not the myth box skipping thats for sure, no iowait and very little cpu
[01:38:26] UForgotten: I'll try a record and replay
[01:40:17] UForgotten: so I can't watch a recording in progress?
[01:40:56] tgm4883: you should be able to
[01:41:01] tgm4883: you should see it in the recorded list
[01:41:59] UForgotten: ah yeah I see it now
[01:42:02] UForgotten: its skipping really bad
[01:43:00] UForgotten: I feel so much better that I'm even getting recordings now tho, geez. wife was about to kill me
[01:43:06] tgm4883: what playback profile are you using?
[01:44:38] UForgotten: whatever the defaults are, have not done any tweaks
[01:44:46] UForgotten: the bitrate is probably way too high
[01:46:00] UForgotten: opengl high quality is what it is on now – which tested PERFECT in the setup wizard btw
[01:47:09] tgm4883: what CPU/video card?
[01:47:59] UForgotten: core2duo 2 ghz, intel i8somethingorother
[01:48:27] mzb_ is now known as mzb
[01:49:28] UForgotten: video is onboard hdmi intel GM965
[01:49:46] tgm4883: id check the playback profile
[01:50:02] UForgotten: it doesn't have a lot of power but it played the opengl high test just fine. I tried dropping it to opengl normal, didn't seem to have much effect.

[01:50:46] EnderTheThird: Finally got the line-ups redone and channels rescanned after stupidly deleting the data source, which of course got rid of my channels from that source (oops)
[01:52:35] UForgotten: tgm4883: I changed it to 'slim' and its playing like a bawse. except for the aspect ratio.
[01:52:57] EnderTheThird: seems to be stuck at "DataDirect: sourceid 1 has lineup type: LocalBroadcast" again. Either stuck or it's really slow. I'm not sure which. FWIW, I had to manually enter the SD channel IDs for the channels since they're QAM from cable and wasn't sure if it would know which channels were which when it's set for "local broadcast"
[01:53:07] UForgotten: I'm gonna sign out and start digging into the video settings. thanks!

[02:05:20] TheMaze: this is .25 on ubuntu 12.04
[02:05:22] TheMaze: clean install
[02:05:44] TheMaze: best I Can tell, I have everything set up right, but MythTV doesn't seem to be issuing tunes to the InfiniTV
[02:05:50] TheMaze: (log on the infiniTV web page doesn't show it)
[02:05:58] TheMaze: I see something (the backend?) repeatedly trying to tune to channel 0

[02:06:45] TheMaze: which seems to indicate it should be 0 for local cards, and RTP for network cards
[02:06:55] TheMaze: if I set it to 0, myth indicates that no tuners are found when I try and watch live TV
[02:07:08] TheMaze: if I set it to rtp, it tries to work, but doesn't actually work or issue the tune
[02:07:17] TheMaze: I've been literally at this for 10 hours and am completely stumped
[02:07:29] TheMaze: I'm a myth noob, but I see nothing that looks like a tune in the myth logs, either

[14:25:44] devinheitmueller: Kermi: you might want to try dropping the dvico board into a Windows box and see if it works at all. It could be the hardware just died.
[14:26:08] Kermi: devinheitmueller, I don't own a windoze box
[14:26:09] devinheitmueller: ... or did it stop working when you upgraded something (such as the kernel)?
[14:26:45] devinheitmueller: If you haven't upgraded the kernel or changed anything else and it just stopped working, then you probably have hardware that died.
[14:26:50] Kermi: devinheitmueller, I upgraded my router, actually, and rebooted when i shut down to add a wifi card. I have tried removing the wifi card to get the dvico back, and it is the same
[14:27:22] Kermi: and no, i didn't touch the dvico card, and yes, I grounded myself and turned off the power

[14:28:24] Kermi: wagnerrp, I have a high speed wifi N running around here, it generally plays just fine on the frontends
[14:30:12] Kermi: when I do watch HD stuff, I generally watch it on the combined backend/frontend, so the wifi isn't an issue for speed with streaming
[14:30:21] wagnerrp: well N is pretty much minimum, G is barely sufficient for a single ATSC channel if there is no noise to cause dropouts
[14:30:29] wagnerrp: but i wouldnt go so far as to call it "high speed"

[15:23:16] wagnerrp: i really dont know much about that area of the code
[15:23:38] jm|laptop: It would take all for HD channels to recorded subsequent programmes to Make It Happen anyway, which is quite rare

[15:24:21] wagnerrp: thats the only place the limit exists, the limits placed on that UI control
[15:41:35] skd5aner: actually, someone told me that the limit on virtual tuners was associted with the exponential overhead too many virtual tuners can place on the scheduler
[15:41:46] skd5aner: not sure how true that is
[15:43:45] wagnerrp: im guessing its more linear overhead
[15:44:05] wagnerrp: since its not like mythtv intelligently selects what tuner to put it on to maximize the recording potential
[15:44:12] wagnerrp: it just runs down the list until it finds one it can use
[15:44:25] wagnerrp: more virtual tuners just means a longer list
[15:45:17] sphery: according to gnome42 and jannau, it was non-linear
[15:45:26] sphery: and the increase after 5 was huge (and the benefit was tiny)
[15:46:11] sphery: the problem is that the virtual tuners are limited as to which channels they can record by what's already in use on the physical tuner, so it's different from just adding new physical tuners
[15:46:46] sphery: if you really want, I'll give you quotes from #mythtv (it was before logging in that channel)
[15:47:30] wagnerrp: the benefit then may have been limited
[15:48:24] wagnerrp: the benefit now? Mux 1 has 10 channels, Mux A has 13 channels, Mux C has 10 channels, Mux D has 8 channels
[15:48:48] wagnerrp: and tack on overlap for back-to-back recordings

[15:48:56] wagnerrp: english freeview
[15:49:12] wagnerrp: they shovel a crapton of SD channels onto their muxes
[15:49:22] sphery: you're saying that they changed and now broadcast more?
[15:49:29] sphery: anyway, I still say the benefit is limited
[15:49:30] TheMaze: has anyone configured a Ceton InfiniTV in myth? I'm stumped
[15:49:32] wagnerrp: thats my guess
[15:49:45] sphery: limited to only some providers of crappy video or radio channels
[15:49:45] wagnerrp: now whether all those channels on a mux are actually worth recording... likely not
[15:49:55] sphery: and much easier (and better performance) to get new tuners :)
[15:50:15] sphery: if you really need to record 6+ channels from a single mux
[15:50:30] sphery: contiguously, that is (who does that anyway?)

[15:52:18] sphery: then again, changing it so that only someone who knows what they're doing can pick an appropriate value would fit well with most of the rest of our settings
[15:52:36] wagnerrp: we could remove the virtual tuner configuration entirely, modify it so you only have the one database entry
[15:52:50] wagnerrp: and let the scheduler scale itself dynamically based off how long it takes to perform a scheduler run
[15:53:08] sphery: that would be nice, but lots of changes to the scheduler
[15:53:25] sphery: I will admit the current approach is far from ideal--as it's completely different from how other tuners work
[15:53:26] wagnerrp: true, but it would give us a nice out

[16:12:15] wagnerrp: and between the host, home directory contents, various server data, multiple generations of jails for assorted purposes, and the boot images for several frontends, theres simply no room left on there for any significant amount of content

[16:13:44] earthw0rm: Could I put my music files in the /video partition?
[16:13:59] sphery: So, gotta say that I've now found a good use for twitter and facebook. Since they're becoming the main focus of criminals who previously overloaded inboxes with spam, they become great e-mail spam solutions. And since I don't have a twitter or facebook account, they're basically keeping the spam away from me.
[16:14:24] earthw0rm: sphery: :D
[16:14:40] wagnerrp: earthw0rm: /video partition?
[16:14:53] sphery: earthw0rm: you can have it on that partition, but don't put the music directory (or any of its parent directories) into the videos storage group and vice versa
[16:14:59] wagnerrp: why are you still partitioning stuff?
[16:15:05] sphery: i.e. don't let the video/music scanner pick up the wrong stuff
[16:15:30] earthw0rm: sphery: I see
[16:15:32] wagnerrp: and for recordings, never record to the root of a partition
[16:16:56] earthw0rm: I've got 4 hard drives in there, one is going to have / /boot and swap on it and is 300GB, then I've got two 3TB disks which will be /media1 and /media2 then I've got a 4th 300GB one
[16:17:13] earthw0rm: The media ones will be for MythTV to record onto
[16:18:07] earthw0rm: That was the plan anyway ...
[16:18:29] earthw0rm: I'm just wondering where my existing media now fits into this scheme (music, photos, video)

[18:38:58] Hoochster: and all was fine on 11.10 and 0.24.2 fixes
[18:39:01] sphery: yeah, could be that or changes in mythtv that require changes in your config or ...
[18:39:10] sphery: what specifically is "not working well"
[18:39:22] Hoochster: upgrade it all and now my Clear QAM channels are all pixelated and I am getting mythbackend crashes basically bout every 12 hours
[18:39:45] sphery: mythbackend crashes almost definitely aren't related to nvidia driver
[18:40:01] Hoochster: my Prime stuff looks fine but still getting the Kernel Core Traces and such every so often and only way to fix is to hard shutdown and reboot
[18:40:08] Hoochster: then works again for awhile then freaks again
[18:40:20] sphery: pixelated video is likely either a problem with your system config causing issues with decoding (i.e. slow I/O due to having the DB data on a file system with barriers enabled...)
[18:40:42] Hoochster: ya the nvidia drive I started biting at cuz if I set it to just a normal profile or opengl I still get pixelation but not NEAR as bad but if I set it to vdpau it is unwatchable
[18:40:53] sphery: or your playback profile group is set incorrectly--i.e. because in the system upgrade your hostname changed (even if just from hostname to hostname.domainname or something) and you lost all settings
[18:41:00] Kuhne: Hoochster: You saying that 12.04 and 0.25 is not working?
[18:41:17] Hoochster: kuhne just not for me have no clue for others, highly doubt or it would be more widespread when I looked
[18:41:27] sphery: for playback profile group, go to frontend settings, under Video Playback, you'll see Playback Profiles on 3rd screen... make sure you're using an appropriate one
[18:41:28] Kuhne: Cool.
[18:41:38] sphery: (likely VDPAU Slim is the best starting point)
[18:41:46] Hoochster: sphery that's how I tested between opengl/normal and vdpau
[18:42:02] Hoochster: all vdpau's are unwatchable the others can be watched but still getting artifacts
[18:42:04] sphery: if it's not then, I'd suggest system config
[18:42:29] sphery: i.e. in 12.04, you're almost definitely using ext4 with barriers for mysql data file system, so your I/O performance could be awful
[18:42:39] Hoochster: k
[18:42:53] Hoochster: so I should google some stuff on that unless you know what I should look at?
[18:42:58] sphery: if you disable barriers, you lose safety, but go back to the performance you're used to
[18:43:13] sphery: first, what file system is your mysql data on?
[18:43:19] Hoochster: ext4

[19:58:36] yogg: Hi
[19:58:47] williammanda: would someone explain what I'm missing?
[19:59:40] yogg: Is it possible to decrypt a channel over an usb card reader (with original channel smart card)? With cccam or so?
[20:00:02] skd5aner: williammanda: the wiki article says uPNP can share that, not that myth's implementation of it can share all of those things
[20:00:02] sphery: williammanda: wiki page says upnp can be used to share those things, and says that mythtv supports upnp
[20:00:13] sphery: williammanda: it doesn't say which of those things mythtv supports sharing via upnp
[20:00:16] sphery: that's the disconnect
[20:01:01] sphery: yogg: no, we have no support for that since in almost every possible use case it's either illegal or, at minimum, a violation of the service agreement with the TV provider
[20:01:19] sphery: yogg: therefore, we also forbid discussion of any software-based decryption
[20:02:23] yogg: sphery: hmm so i need an tv card that has an ci slot build in?
[20:02:26] sphery: yogg: we only support hardware based decryption, where the capture device has built-in card reader that work with the provider's card--exactly as a provider's STB does--and mythtv only gets unencrypted video
[20:02:32] lautriv: wagnerrp, are you around ?
[20:02:35] sphery: yes, hardware CI/CAM
[20:02:42] williammanda: this is what I read on the wiki.....
[20:02:44] williammanda: MythTV versions starting from 0.20 have a built-in UPnP server (a so called "UPnP AV MediaServer" device). UPnP servers are where you store and share your media (pictures/videos/audio/music) from. So you can share MythTV media files to any UPnP client
[20:02:45] sphery: yogg: other option is an analog capture device
[20:03:03] sphery: williammanda: we agree it needs rewritten
[20:03:10] williammanda: oh ok
[20:03:36] williammanda: so it is limited to recordings and video then?
[20:03:50] yogg: sphery: ok this suks a litte. What is with HD+? it would be never be possible to get an reader for it because of the fact how HD+ works
[20:03:51] sphery: yogg: with analog capture, you'd use the provider's STB to output via composite/s-video/scart/component and have an appropriate encoder device (like PVR-150 or HD-PVR) take the analog and create MPEG for you
[20:04:14] sphery: yogg: not sure what HD+ is...
[20:04:43] sphery: yogg: something like this: http://www.smart-electronic.de/en/digital-rec . . . ppix-hd.html
[20:05:36] sphery: if so, I suppose you're saying, "There are no cards that provide hardware CAM/CI for my provider," right? if so, that's the problem... they want you to use their equipment so they can better control their service

[20:10:20] sphery: rmsbl: comcast uses SCTE out-of-band data channels for things like channel callsigns/names/etc., and we don't support pulling that in
[20:10:27] skd5aner: williammanda: there is an app out there in the android market now to try and stream recordings/videos, but I'm not sure how well it works

[20:10:49] skd5aner: (coming from someone who hasn't tried it)
[20:10:51] sphery: rmsbl: so, you need to scan for channels, then go into mythtv-setup or mythweb channel editor and add the xmltvid that you can find at schedules direct's site for each channel
[20:10:55] williammanda: mythtvfrontend?
[20:10:58] sphery: rmsbl: then run mythfilldatabase

[20:29:11] wagnerrp: even after being told repeatedly the plan was to stop running through the shell
[20:29:20] wagnerrp: and if you dont run through the shell, you dont have to escape squat
[20:30:06] Beirdo: well, I guess I can prioritize having cookies load on startup and save on shutdown (or periodically or...)
[20:30:31] wagnerrp: i dont know how the grabber stuff would work though
[20:30:39] wagnerrp: would the grabbers need to be authenticated as well?
[20:30:45] Beirdo: not sure
[20:31:06] wagnerrp: amazon prime is a subscription service, right?
[20:31:12] wagnerrp: you have the service, you have access to everything?
[20:31:15] sphery: seems it does work, now
[20:31:20] wagnerrp: no microtransactions or anything?
[20:31:25] ** sphery may have to go prime **
[20:31:28] Beirdo: as far as I know
[20:31:37] sphery: too bad they have such a small selection of free video for prime users
[20:31:41] Beirdo: I haven't tried the video part yet :)
[20:31:53] Beirdo: sphery: are you smoking the good stuff? :)
[20:32:08] Beirdo: they add more weekly from what I've seen
[20:33:02] sphery: biggest complaint about netflix streaming is selection is small
[20:33:11] sphery: but it's a /lot/ bigger than prime's
[20:34:02] sphery: looking for the 2012 comparison (keep finding the 2011 comparison)
[20:34:04] Beirdo: you might wanna look again :)
[20:34:05] skd5aner: well...
[20:34:17] sphery: I just looked last week
[20:34:23] skd5aner: prime's video selection has recently gotten a lot bigger/better
[20:34:25] sphery: (unfortunately I cleared browser history since)
[20:34:35] Beirdo: heh :)
[20:34:44] skd5aner: wagnerrp: yes, it is subscription based and is different than their per-video streaming service
[20:34:45] Beirdo: they are adding a fair amount of TV shows too
[20:35:04] Beirdo: and I have prime mainly for the shipping :)
[20:35:11] skd5aner: I played with it about 6 months ago
[20:35:19] sphery: I know they're adding more
[20:35:25] skd5aner: and, I can't live without Amazon prime anymore either...
[20:35:26] sphery: but they still have tiny amount compared to netflix
[20:35:35] skd5aner: they've hooked me, it definitely pays for itself
[20:35:48] sphery: 2011 numbers: http://www.clicker.com/blog/amazon-prime-inst . . . ok-9651.html
[20:35:50] skd5aner: and that's without ever using the video stuff, which would be great because I'd consider that a bonus
[20:35:52] Beirdo: figuring it's pretty much a freebie for me...
[20:35:56] sphery: 2012 showed about the same discrepancy
[20:36:07] sphery: now if you include all of amazon's for pay content, amazon's is much larger
[20:36:10] sphery: (than netflix's)
[20:36:20] sphery: but that's not free for prime subscribers
[20:38:05] ** skd5aner will buy someone a beer if they can integrate prime video nicely **

[20:48:05] sphery: Beirdo: between Feb 2011 and Apr 2012, Amazon went from 500 – 931 TV seasons and Netflix went from 750 to 4100 TV seasons, Amazon went from 1700 movies to 1500+ (likely about the same) movies and Netflix from 8250 to 9500+
[20:48:42] Beirdo: yes, but Netflix isn't free :)
[20:48:43] sphery: which is why I'm saying that the only down side to the prime thing is the selection... I do hope it gets better, though
[20:49:00] Beirdo: yeah. I'm sure they'll fix it
[20:49:03] sphery: neither is prime, but once you pay for prime, amazon instant is no additional charge
[20:49:04] wagnerrp: well neither is prime
[20:49:08] Beirdo: sure it is
[20:49:15] Beirdo: I pay for prime for shipping
[20:49:18] Beirdo: the video is free

[20:49:26] sphery: granted, netflix doesn't give you free 2-day shipping on all amazon purchases after you subscribe
[20:49:27] pepsiman: wagnerrp, any chance it's a software issue?
[20:49:37] Beirdo: trust me, I get more than my money's worth outta shipping

[20:50:03] Beirdo: right
[20:50:31] sphery: still, I'm much more a fan of amazon instant because I also get benefit of prime, and--far more importantly--it's usable on GNU/Linux
[20:50:38] Beirdo: it's free with a service I'm already paying for and would with or without the video
[20:50:43] sphery: granted, still required garbage flash support, but...
[20:50:48] Beirdo: yup
[20:50:51] Beirdo: even better :)
