[00:04:07] jk90090: Raymond, may be a dumb question, but what does mythffmpeg add other than giving nuvexport a standard wrapper to live by?
[00:04:13] RagingMind: wagnerrp, it chokes on the transcorder line with "AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'prefix'"
[00:05:09] Oleg_: folks!
[00:05:17] Oleg_: any idea what causes that error?
[00:08:28] wagnerrp: ah... INSTALL_PREFIX, not prefix
[00:08:29] jk90090: Raging, I'm taking a guess here, but I think he meant to use import 'sys' and not 'static', and then meant to use 'sys.prefix'
[00:08:43] jk90090: orrrrr what he said ;-)
[00:08:50] gregL (gregL!~greg@cpe-74-76-125-87.nycap.res.rr.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:09:32] wagnerrp: no, 'static' is a module out of the python bindings
[00:09:48] wagnerrp: and specifically MythTV.static.INSTALL_PREFIX is the location where mythtv was installed to
[00:10:02] wagnerrp: so INSTALL_PREFIX/bin/ is where you can find a bunch of mythtv's executables
[00:10:06] jk90090: Ah
[00:10:43] jk90090: oh, I see now your paste bin menthol importing from Mythtvb
[00:10:50] Oleg_: wagnerrp, can you help me please?
[00:10:55] awalls: Oleg_: it's probably a driver problem.
[00:11:08] awalls: Check /var/log/messages (or whatever)
[00:11:12] Oleg_: well, it's the latest version of webcamd
[00:11:14] wagnerrp: Oleg_: would if i could, but i have no idea what could cause that problem
[00:11:23] awalls: to look for problems.
[00:11:31] wagnerrp: ive never used webcamd, or any kind of USB tuner for that matter
[00:11:57] wagnerrp: awalls: FYI, webcamd is some userland interpreter intended to allow the use of linux DVB drivers for USB devices under FreeBSD
[00:12:09] awalls: Try and use 'femon' on that DVB frontend to see if you can read the signal strength fron the driver yourself
[00:12:46] awalls: Oh. Good luck debugging that.
[00:13:26] RagingMind: okay... it's making the mp4 :) almost done...
[00:13:32] wagnerrp: heh
[00:13:33] awalls: On linux, I just say unplug and replug the USB device.

[01:23:11] sphery: eddytv: how are you attempting to delete the files?
[01:23:28] sphery: (er, the recordings without files)
[01:23:55] eddytv: via 'mythweb/recorded', then choosing "Deleted" from the "Show group" menu...
[01:24:31] eddytv: They show up, and if I click "Delete" they go away, but then when I refresh, they're back...
[01:24:55] sphery: mythweb has never been able to delete recordings with missing files
[01:25:37] sphery: can you try: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Q . . . t_on_disk.3F
[01:26:15] wagnerrp: sphery: im wondering if it would be worth storing all the duplicate instances from different media servers in the database
[01:26:16] Guest12886 (Guest12886!~jeff@70.103.58.197) has left #mythtv-users ("Leaving")
[01:26:23] wagnerrp: or just the one marked as local
[01:26:42] sphery: duplicate instances?
[01:26:57] wagnerrp: storage NFS mounted on multiple backends
[01:27:06] wagnerrp: so the content shows up multiple times
[01:27:21] sphery: why would we want that?
[01:27:36] wagnerrp: because we cant record over the backend protocol
[01:27:54] sphery: wouldn't it be better to just have it stored with "local" host name, but also expand the file system stuff to know "best path from there to here"
[01:28:26] sphery: I think I might have missed something
[01:28:34] wagnerrp: in the situation where no machines are local, such as a shared NAS, which do you select to stream from?
[01:28:43] eddytv: sphery: Ah, thanks so much for that link! Just ran "Find_orphans.py" and it spewed out a bunch of orphaned recordings and snapshots!
[01:29:06] sphery: eddytv: can you please try the approach in that link first...
[01:29:09] wagnerrp: would be easier to just store them all, and pick one at time of playback based on whatever machines are connected
[01:29:14] sphery: that would allow us to check status of #10511
[01:29:14] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10511 **
[01:30:10] sphery: wagnerrp: I'd say we just store one--in the case of NAS without streaming server, doesn't matter which hostname, or could even use a sentinal value saying "none"--and finish up what we started with removing the "always stream" setting
[01:30:50] sphery: so that mythtv would know "this storage is local to MBE, but the recording was recorded by SBE, so makes more sense to stream from MBE to remote frontend or to play locally on MBE"
[01:30:51] eddytv: sphery: OK, one sec, I'll go boot up a front-end
[01:30:54] sphery: kind of stuff
[01:30:57] sphery: eddytv: thanks
[01:31:07] sphery: multiple data points are a good thing
[01:31:46] sphery: eddytv: also, once you verify the procedure with one recording, you can then use find_orphans.py... just want to see if you can make it work with frontend UI
[01:32:15] wagnerrp: sphery: anyway, im really just looking for the mediafile table, and classes for accessing that
[01:32:18] sphery: I haven't looked at code recently, but from how it was written, #10511 should only occur when user doesn't do the right thing
[01:32:18] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10511 **
[01:32:30] sphery: wagnerrp: yeah, I'll be working on that stuff soon
[01:32:39] sphery: just can't do much, this week
[01:32:56] wagnerrp: ok, i didnt know if maybe you had some of the low level stuff ready to go
[01:33:01] sphery: nope
[01:33:07] sphery: I have to rework the schema, again
[01:33:09] sphery: and verify it
[01:33:27] ** wagnerrp goes back to reworking smolt **
[01:33:35] sphery: then I will push tables to master, then start working on conversion in a branch

[01:34:31] sphery: (and, perhaps, just commit a compile error with a define saying not to use the branch :)
[01:34:39] wagnerrp: heh
[01:36:35] eddytv: sphery: OK, it's not behaving like the FAQ describes
[01:36:48] eddytv: The files that are missing are "dimmed"
[01:37:15] sphery: and when you hit MENU on it?
[01:37:32] eddytv: When I press "M"enu, it says "Recording file cannot be found" and gives "Show recording details", "Delete" and "Add to playlist"
[01:37:39] eddytv: I can view the recording details
[01:37:54] sphery: and Delete does what?
[01:38:29] eddytv: When I choose Delete, it says "Are you sure?" and I choose "Yes, delete it" and it disappears from the Recorded Programs list...
[01:38:43] eddytv: I don't get any secondary confirmation like the FAQ describes
[01:39:15] sphery: ok, so it seems the not-available status stuff was broken by something
[01:40:06] sphery: this may also explain why some users said deleting recordings without files didn't work in previous versions--because they were using a setting that we (who tested and verified it worked and couldn't reproduce the failure) weren't using
[01:40:25] sphery: that particular setting is now enabled for everyone, so--if nothing else--that change will make sure we fix it properly
[01:40:48] sphery: seems no one ever mentioned they had enabled that setting, so I never thought to check with the setting enabled
[01:40:53] sphery: thanks for the test
[01:41:00] sphery: from here, I recommend find_orphans.py
[01:41:05] sphery: it should work without problenm
[01:41:17] RagingMind: mythffmpeg seems to have worked. I have an mp4 file of the recording
[01:41:22] sphery: but it will delete the recording metadata and set it to allow re-record...
[01:41:50] sphery: you can modify the script if you don't want it to re-record (but it's easier to delete and allow re-record, and delete the reruns if/when they're recorded)
[01:42:09] sphery: anyway, thanks, again, for testing

[01:47:43] wagnerrp: no idea
[01:47:51] sphery: (he's the blue-abstract guy)
[01:48:03] eddytv: No problem. I just tested again to make sure... An episode I had manually removed still showed in the "Default" recgroup view in 'mythweb/tv/recorded'... the recording file was missing, and it showed "dimmed" on the front-end...
[01:48:47] eddytv: ... I deleted it on the front-end (as I described above) and it disappeared from the front-end and moved from the "Default" recgroup to the "Deleted" recgroup in 'mythweb'...
[01:48:59] zombor (zombor!~zombor_@kohana/developer/zombor) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[01:49:09] eddytv: ... but it just stays in the "Deleted" recgroup.
[01:49:31] ** eddytv wonders what happens if I switch to the Deleted recgroup on the frontend and try deleting it from there? **
[01:49:31] sphery: eddytv: and if you switch to deleted recgroup on the frontend (MENU|Change View Filter, then select Deleted), can you delete from there?
[01:49:38] sphery: hehe, me too :)
[01:51:04] eddytv: Ah, that worked, and behaved more like the FAQ said... I got two delete confirmations
[01:51:17] sphery: ahh, interesting
[01:51:26] sphery: so we just need to short-circuit that--maybe
[01:51:39] sphery: though keeping the 2nd confirmation
[01:51:56] sphery: since if they have a not-running backend or not-mounted filesystem, they may not want to continue the delete
[01:52:27] eddytv: I think so. I did "M"enu, and the first dialog said "Recording file does not exist" and gave "Show Recording Details", "Delete", "Add to playlist" as initial options.
[01:52:52] eddytv: I choose delete and it says "Are you sure?" and gives "Delete" or "Keep"...
[01:53:23] eddytv: Then it says "Recording file does not exist, are you are sure" and gives the same "Delete" or "Keep" dialog...
[01:54:03] eddytv: So first dialog title is "Recording file cannot be found"
[01:54:17] eddytv: then "Are you sure you want to delete"...
[01:54:31] eddytv: then "Recording file does not exist".
[01:55:15] sphery: cool
[01:55:33] sphery: thanks a ton for testing that... will make it much easier to repro/fix
[01:55:50] RagingMind: wagnerrp, THANKS! I still get an error that it failed, but the recording does get updated with the new file and I can play it on my tablet :)
[01:56:19] wagnerrp: what fails?
[01:57:06] eddytv: sphery: glad to be of help! Thanks for your insight and the pointer to "find_orphans"...
[01:57:24] sphery: hehe, you're welcome
[01:57:48] sphery: eddytv: also, based on what you found, if you want to delete without marking those recordings to allow re-record, ...
[01:57:55] likwid- (likwid-!likwid@skynet.darpa.org) has quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
[01:58:11] sphery: just delete from mythfrontend to the Deleted recgroup, then you can use find_orphans.py to clean up orphans
[01:58:39] eddytv: Ok, sounds great!
[01:58:40] sphery: or delete from mythfrontend to Deleted, then switch to Deleted recgroup, MENU|Add this group to playlist, then MENU|Playlist Options|Delete
[01:59:05] eddytv: Ah, nice. :)
[01:59:30] sphery: now thinking about it, I'm assuming that find_orphans.py won't do a forget or a delete and allow re-record if the recording is already in deleted recgroup, but I can't say for sure
[01:59:34] sphery: wagnerrp: ^^^?
[02:00:19] wagnerrp: it always deletes for re-record

[02:05:31] wagnerrp: shouldnt be necessary

[02:06:09] wagnerrp: theres no reason to delete it

[03:07:30] wilberarch: right. but before the upgrade from .24 to .25 everything played 'widescreen'...

[03:08:05] Oleg_: what command should I use to make mythtv-setup see that directory?

[03:09:33] wagnerrp: terra comes with the core install, and should be found in /usr/local/share/mythtv/
[03:09:33] Oleg_: wagnerrp, why was the code compiled in the first place if mythtv-setup can't start?
[03:09:52] wagnerrp: no port should be installing to a home directory

[03:18:04] wagnerrp: why?
[03:18:42] wagnerrp: to do so, you would have to populate LD_LIBRARY_PATH with all those individual library subdirectories so the linker could find them all

[03:18:57] Oleg_: yes, that's what I did

[06:57:10] k-man: mythtv is not digital?
[06:57:12] EmleyMoor: I'm quite liking mythtv – apart from occasional streaming failures and the trouble I'm having getting my remote control to work
[06:57:32] EmleyMoor: (and I hated it before I had digital!)

[06:57:52] k-man: justinh, oh i see

[06:58:39] justinh: like lirc. none of that is mythtv's fault
[06:59:06] justinh: a few years ago I used to hear how setting up mythtv was such a PITA because making the remote control work is such a cow
[06:59:22] justinh: or the tuners 'aren't supported' :-/
[06:59:31] EmleyMoor: justinh: I've bene trying to fathom remote control for days

[06:59:56] EmleyMoor: justinh: I can't get mythtv to take any notice
[07:00:01] justinh: just stop using anybody else's config files, record your remote, call the buttons sensible names you can remember
[07:00:38] justinh: EmleyMoor: if irw outputs all the buttons you press, using those button names in your lircrc file you should be good
[07:00:58] EmleyMoor: I have yet to get irw to do anything
[07:01:10] justinh: so you never will with mythfrontend either
[07:01:28] EmleyMoor: I will see if I can get any sense out of it tonight
[07:01:34] justinh: irw is proof lirc is working properly.without that, everything else is pointless
[07:02:03] EmleyMoor: You have, at least, pointed me in something of the right direction
[07:02:08] justinh: some remotes act like human interface devices.. I've not had any experience of those
[07:02:29] EmleyMoor: justinh: Mine is mceusb2... which I think does...
[07:02:47] justinh: so when you run irw does it just sit there?
[07:03:41] EmleyMoor: justinh: I don't think it even sits there, though if it does, that's all it does... can't advise right now but will try it tonight.

[13:37:17] justinh: so, turns out (no thanks to our web dev) that using os.rename to move a file only works when the source & destination are on the same filesystem. Ha

[13:37:31] wagnerrp: jya: yea, the 6502 guy mentioned that some time last week
[13:38:37] jya: wagnerrp: ok..
[13:39:02] quicksilver: that is a traditional shortcoming of all languages which are just binding to rename(2)
[13:39:10] jya: once again,I experimented another case where itunes and mythfrontend running on the same machine, didn't work with RAOP
[13:39:26] jya: bonjour for some reason was advertising with the address fe80:blah:blah
[13:39:41] jya: and itunes would then try to connect to it, but binding had failed
[13:40:00] justinh: quicksilver: so I hacked it to use shutil.move instead
[13:40:28] justinh: now it works & the customer is happy
[13:40:47] quicksilver: :)
[13:41:49] justinh: I think I might end up wanting to kill the app developer soon. some of the indenting is crazy. Like > 100 chars

[21:51:09] J-e-f-f-A: Hehehe... I haven't made the transition to 0.25 yet – I'm still on 0.24 and [very old] FC13! ;-) So I'm gonna have to upgrade the OS at the same time. ;-)
[21:52:50] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: my highest temp in my system right now is 39C
[21:52:53] nichos: yeah, I was happy w/24 and had no complaints – been very stable until this recent stuff
[21:53:15] nichos: J-e-f-f-A: I'm in florida, it's already been in the 90s this year
[21:54:00] nichos: the theme stuff is pretty neat
[21:54:00] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: I'm in MA – and we've had a couple of weeks of 85F+ weather... Crazy for New England!
[21:54:24] J-e-f-f-A: And we had below-freezing temps overnight this week... go figure.
[21:54:33] nichos: yeah – it doesn't help that my house is over 50 yrs old and has no insulation :O
[21:54:46] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: ha! mine either! 1961!
[21:54:56] nichos: *original insulation probably
[21:55:17] nichos: Ok, I got one more excuse that my temps are higher – I'm using AMD
[21:55:37] J-e-f-f-A: Oh wait, they put 1" foam board on the outside of the house. But that doesn't help much when they didn't SEAL it at the top or bottom, so winter is just like wind blowing right through my house...
[21:55:53] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: I'm using AMD too. Quad-core 604 processor.
[21:55:59] nichos: dangit!
[21:56:08] J-e-f-f-A: Yet my current high temp is 39C. ;-)
[21:56:38] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: woops, make that: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor
[21:57:36] J-e-f-f-A: we just got a new VM server at work – I wish I could steal it... ;-) dual 6-core Intel processors and 192GB ram.  ;-)
[21:58:04] nichos: lol yeah, we got one similar (though, I haven't logged in to it yet) it has over 100GB of ram
[21:58:21] nichos: could put my whole myth install there :)
[21:58:43] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: This is one of the smaller ones – we have units that have 24 cores and 256GB ram... This is a 'DR Backup' system. ;-)
[21:58:58] nichos: damn – can i ask what you do?
[21:59:04] nichos: or what the box does?
[21:59:29] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: but I have more disk space on my myth system – My backend has 7TB, this box has 600GB Raid5. ;-) (rest is from a SAN though, so I guess that's not a fair comparison. ;-) )
[22:00:23] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: I'm a Sr. Network Engineer for my company now. That box is for running many virtualized machines on it. We'll have a couple dozen virtual servers running on that.
[22:00:40] nichos: gotcha – our box just compiles
[22:00:41] J-e-f-f-A: (all winblows and Linux)
[22:00:49] nichos: all day long, compiles, sad life for her
[22:01:43] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: hehehe... is it Linux or Wintel?
[22:02:01] nichos: the server? Not sure, but the VMs I use on it are all windows
[22:02:09] nichos: we do compile for linux though
[22:03:42] J-e-f-f-A: Ah, so it is a VM Host, with several VMs on it. ;-) I thought for a minute it was just running Linux or Winblows, and doing parallel compiles in all the cores for speed.
[22:04:02] nichos: oh – back on topic, I get this a lot in my logs: Waited 2137ms for video buffers
[22:05:17] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: IIRC, that's *informational* only and nothing to be worried about – but you should probably wait for a more authoritative answer. ;-)

[22:05:41] J-e-f-f-A: ^^ there ya go.
[22:05:51] nichos: so i thought it was a bandwith issue
[22:05:58] nichos: but being all on the same box.....:/

[22:06:05] J-e-f-f-A: Are they hot too?
[22:07:30] J-e-f-f-A: If you're a smoker and smoke in your house, that could contribute to stuffed-up fans/cooling fins too...

[22:08:13] nichos: data drive is 57'C boot drive is 61'C
[22:08:29] J-e-f-f-A: Ok, so it's just your CPU that's warm. ;-)
[22:09:01] nichos: i just really want to blame the drive – it's a WD green drive :D
[22:09:13] nichos: but drive prices are too high – so I'll check other avenues
[22:09:26] J-e-f-f-A: Oh, I *DO* have my temps monitors – I don't know why I didn't see them before! D'oh! Max temp for the 4 sensors for the week is 51.0 – current max temp is 38.14
[22:09:46] J-e-f-f-A: I don't have any 'green' drives in my system right now. ;-)
[22:09:54] nichos: don't get em
[22:09:57] nichos: nothing but headache
[22:10:11] nichos: Stupid me, I bought a 2tb for this, and a 2tb for my NAS
[22:10:34] J-e-f-f-A: But is the drive a factor? Is the drive new too, and the symptom started when you put the drive in?
[22:11:29] nichos: well, i see bandwidth issues, i think drive
[22:11:40] nichos: the drive was new when i build the system about a year ago
[22:12:02] J-e-f-f-A: nichos: Maybe another thing to consider – did you change the number of concurrent jobs or start transcoding, or start recording HD, or something like that, that would coincide with the stuttering?
[22:12:16] nichos: nope – that's all done at 4am
[22:12:31] nichos: well, commercial flagging is – where is transcoding set?
[22:13:56] J-e-f-f-A: Transcoding wouldn't be done unless you set it up IIRC. Commflagging is [IIRC] normally kicked off either at the start of the recording, or immediately after.
[22:14:18] nichos: i did change the commercial flagging to overnight
[22:14:31] nichos: but I might have been playing with the transcoding for web-streaming a few weeks ago
[22:16:17] nichos: just did it again – it did it when I posed to lines from the log up above, and it just did it now. Just watching livetv, haven't touched it
[22:16:28] nichos: i wonder if it's on an interval
